Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/21/2023

Nick's flight arrived on time and he's home. Time will fly until he leaves Friday. This morning I did LITE Body Weight and Bands. I will never understand his ability to sleep through things. He just laid there sleeping through the whole thing. LOL

Valerie great work with the therapy exercises. You're right not having to ride on or beside the road is a huge plus. Where I live it was really my only option. Country roads, 55 mph, but average person is going 65 at least. I could go at times of day when traffic was minimized, but the dogs just got to be a big issue. Too many people in the country just let them run. After my husband got bit, by a dog that I had just a few days before managed to out distance, I stopped. He never was able to report it. The road is a county line and he called our side and they gave him the number to call for the proper country, but he never could get through to them. Fortunately it wasn't bad.

Diane Sue nice job with 80's step workout and stretch. Sometimes it pays to switch workouts. None of our TV's are big and neither is a smart TV. I don't get the monster TV thing, my sister usually has them, but I'm good with smaller. DH hasn't mentioned my rearranging the equipment, so at some point I'll bring it up. Nick bought a TV his freshman year at NMU, but he didn't want to take it to Texas, so Derek took it and he left it for Aliah since she was moving into the place he'll live in the fall. They are happy to just watch stuff on their laptops.

Hi to Carolyn and Judy!

Today I did my usual morning yoga. Judy, thanks for starting us off this week.

Cathy, nice job with your IMAX 3 combos/low impact workout and Body Weight and Bands. That’s great that Nick is home for a bit. Is he going back to Texas?

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step and Morning Stretch. I can’t imagine having a television larger than 72”. That would be a monster tv! Enjoy your family day.

Hello to Valerie. Have a wonderful day everyone.

we have been riding a long time. 50 years. it used to be quieter. riding 'backroads' used to be easier. cycling is popular here. there are bicycle clubs, plenty of people who ride, some on 55 mph( 70 mph) roads. most locals keep their dogs under control. dogs that chase bikes are short lived. get run over quickly. fewer dogs by attrition. the most we do is very short highway segments to connect rural roads to make loops. maybe a mile on a busy road, to cross a bridge, during non peak times. the farm areas we ride are known for decent cycling. used to be a lot more choices, but we take what we can get. bike trails without traffic are what we use most of the year. the farm areas are good in spring and summer. we have tried other geographic areas and most are not good. Spokane? Montana? Idaho? nope, no way. we tried. bikes have a right to be there, but getting run over to prove a point aint worth it! if the drivers are hostile, we quit, dont go back. not hard to tell! we ride defensively. I've gottenhostile drivers fired from their jobs by calling their company and reporting behavior. still, not worth getting killed or injured because some guy is a dick. really stupid to be driving a truck with a company logo/phone & purposely forcing me off the road or turning in front of me. we sometimes carry bear spray in the bottle holder. have sprayed dogs before. if it works on a grizzly, will work on a g. shepherd. still, we want to enjoy a nice morning and not make a statement. sunday morning, weekday mornings after rush can be ok. we stick to bike trails most of the time. too nerve wracking, only takes one jerk or drunk. we single file on the shoulder and signal what we are doing. most areas are not worth the risk. Ive never been bitten, have outrun a few. sprayed a few. hit one dog and amazingly he lost. he ran into my front wheel, I didn't fall and he probably lost part of his nose but I never knew for sure. .

I dont "get" the giant TV thing. ours is about 60" right for the room, a plasma we've had for > 20 years. works fine. exercise rooms are 30". we dont watch sports. ugh. those seem to be the folks who want 100" monsters.

I did therapy yesterday, taking today off.

This morning I did JS Pyramid Power Walk for 33 minutes and 209 calories burned. Average heart rate 131 and maximum heart rate 163.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

This morning I did 30 Minute Kickboxing Express in the kitchen. LOL With STS coming and my rotation ending Saturday, I'm just winging it this week, and I'll workout upstairs till Friday. Boys and I are going to the zoo and then to my parents tomorrow, but if I wake up early, I'll do something. Nick and I got back home from the dentist, DH had left for his eye appointment and he'd set my TV, that he still didn't know about, but it clearly a TV, on the counter. LOL I'm not in the mood to try and figure it out today, and we'll be gone tomorrow, so I think I'll just plan to spend Wednesday getting it all set up and testing it out. I know there are some things where I'll need my password to set them up on the TV and I'll be like hmm, what is that password.

Valerie I do wonder about people driving identifiable company vehicles doing stupid things. Do they just not care that they can be identified. Especially by other drivers since so many people have dash cams these days. Years ago even riding on busy roads wasn't as bad, people these days have gotten just so much worse.

Carolyn great job with the yoga and JS Pyramid Power Walk.

cathy, lots of riders use go pro cameras to ID problems but Ive never gotten one. I recognized the business name. the driver passed with about 2 inches to spare. otherwise empty 2 lane road. no reason he couldn't have swerved slightly to make it less dangerous. when you feel the heat of a vehicle passing by, it is WAY too close. I didnt have my phone which I normally would. got home, asked for the mgr, told him what had happened. I asked if he could ID the driver if I told him the location. he assured me he could and would take care of it. jerky people are likely jerks at other times too. I am pretty sure the guy got canned. we did a ride 2 years ago near spokane. car after car didn't move out of their lane an inch but passed very very closely. we stopped early and went back to our truck. bad attitude toward bikes! a crummy secondary road that only went to a boat launch on a lake so not slowing someones commute. . that was a short day.

a first in a long time. did the whole Stacked upper body workout, two runs thru all the exercises and used cathe level weights. she does not go heavy on this one, but Ive been nervous about working my shoulder too hard so have used lighter weights, or a single run thru the workout. I am still avoiding push ups, sticking to tricep/ knee ones. regular ones are a triggering move so I skip those, I will work around. also did x train abs.

Posting my workout and heading to bed. Sleep has not been good lately and things I have to be up for. Yesterday was family birthdays and mother's day celebrations:) I had people out to take care of spraying the yard since it rained when they were supposed to do it Friday. It is supposed to rain tonight again. Nothing has a chance to dry out and mosquitos are ridiculous.
I did CDorner Full Body with Dumbbells and Stability Ball with an added 6 minute extra warm up, 57 minutes, heart rate 103/142, 162 calories, 1,265 steps. I then did Raw Box 4 Your Waistline, 30 minutes, heart rate 133/169, 166 calories, 909 steps. This one was fun, music was good. They used egg weights and I used a pair of shoe weights that weigh 1#. They are like little sandbags. I forgot that I had them. Total time was 87 minutes, 328 calories, 2,174 steps.

CDorner Fill Body workout from today
3 rounds of all moves 2 rnds are 60 sec each move last rnd is 30 sec each move
Forearm plank on stability ball
crossback lunge pulse alternating sides 15# dumbbell
chest press on ball 12# dbs (this was an increase for m e)
glute bridge on ball 12# db rnd 1, 15# db rnd 2, 20# db rnd 3
ball cross reach crunch alternating sides
deadrow 17.5# dbs rnd 1, 20# dbs rnd 2 and 3 (I do not know why, but 20# feels easier than the 17.5 Bowflex weights
pullover on stability ball 15# db
reverse lunge twisting curl 15# dbs, rnd 2 side curls, and 3 hammer curls
wide squat overhead triceps extension 15# db
floor stability ball pass (used my Bosu Ball for added weight)

This morning I did High Reps for 67 minutes and 271 calories burned. My average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 162.

Cathy, great job with 30 Minute Kickboxing Express—in your kitchen. I’m glad that your new television has arrived. I’m sure that you will be glad that you bought it.

Valerie, great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body and XTrain Abs.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Full Body with Dumbbells and Raw Box 4 Your Waistline. Hopefully you were able to get some rest.

Hello to Judy.

This morning I did Boss Loops minus the core. Then the boys and I went to the zoo and my parents. Zoo visit ending up being really good as lots of things were active. Nick met a friend and hung out with her, and Derek and I were together, so it was definitely less of a walking visit and more of a watching animals visit. Though even if I'd been there on my own walking I would still have stopped for 15 minutes to watch the little colobus play. If there was a bench, I'd just park myself there. LOL

Valerie YAY on the Stacked Sets Upper Body!

Diane Sue nice job with Full Body with Dumbbells and Stability Ball, and Raw Box 4 Your Waistline.

Caroline great job with High Reps.

This morning I did CDorner Step Aerobics #293 Latin Flair, 30 minutes, 147 calories, heart rate 126/148, 2,686 steps. I then did some of her Kickboxing she did today, 16 minutes, heart rate 130/173, 87 calories, 1,773 steps. I finished off with CDorner Hip Mobility from today, 33 minutes, 59 calories. Total time today was 74 minutes, 293 calories, 4,507 steps.

I am appropriately achy after stacked sets yesterday so I'm happy. shoulder has continued to settle down but I am nervous because I don't know what caused the problem to begin with. it wasnt as easy as it used to be but for not doing much upper body work for so long, I feel good about it. Ive been obsessively careful not to do too much. I will do this workout several more times before I change up to another, and will avoid push ups or anything that targets that area. I am backing off on the PT Ive been doing too. Ive taken 3 very easy days with stretching and only a few exercises and I'm less sore than Ive been for a while. maybe I was over doing it.

I really did get some things done today. I pulled all of the solar lights off the fence in back and cleaned them up and put new solar batteries in them and hung them all back up. Sprayed some more even though I sprayed last night. The mosquitos are crazy. Then I pulled a solar flood light in front and ants were swarming up my arm.

Valerie, I have to give more rest to those areas that are even a bit sore still. Otherwise, they seem to get worse. I know I need to build strength around the joint, but I don't think it should be painful. It should only be mildly sore. I need to do shoulders as the total body workout I did the other day was not a lot on shoulders. But, then the boxing works them, and the front of the shoulder is where it usually hurts when boxing. I am slow to do push ups and usually on my knees because it really taxes that area and takes several days to stop aching. I have come to realize that some of the later Cathe weight workouts were not as heavy as ones like X Train or STS are.

Cathy, good job on getting in Boss Bands before going to the zoo. When we go to the zoo it is generally to watch the animals. It would be a nice place to walk though. I know that there are a lot of people that get the passes so they can go whenever they want to walk.

Carolyn, great job on High Reps. I think that is one that I never looked forward to doing. I do not usually care for high rep workouts. Rest was not so good. I got up and went back to sleep in the recliner this morning as my rib and chest wall were hurting again. Then I heard something hit the ground outside and still do not know what the sound was as my dog popped up too. Then just as I was dozing back off, my dog decided to roll over and hit her squeaky ball and made me jump. That was pretty much the end of sleep. I guess I rallied.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. That was 28 minutes and 179 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 171.

Cathy, nice job with Boss Loops, no core before going to the zoo.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner Step Aerobics, Kickboxing, and Hip Mobility.

Valerie, I’m glad that Stacked Sets Upper Body worked for you.

Hello to Judy.

My STS 2.0 was just delivered!

I had set my alarm for 6 this morning, but Chester decided at 5:25 to start banging the cupboard door. I really didn't feel like working out, so I went outside and walked. I've started using the Merlin Bird ID app which can ID bird sounds. Birds were in full dawn chorus mode at the time and between the front and backyard I got 19 species! And I had walked up to check out the neighbor's progress with his current progress and thought I was hearing gobbling. Went around the house and sure enough, to the south of us there were wild turkeys. Not something I've heard before, but I usually am not out that way listening.

Valerie that's great how your body is reacting to the workout. Slow and steady wins the race.

Diane Sue great job with Step Aerobics #293 Latin Flair, kickboxing and mobility. Sorry to hear you continue to have pain.

Hi Judy!

I'm supposed to get STS 2.0 tomorrow. We'll see. Our local post office is not always the greatest. And they left Greensboro, NC mid morning. Because NJ, to Philly to NC and then up to Michigan makes sense. LOL Oh and mustn't forget our mail goes through GR, so it has to get to GR and then here before they head out to deliver. Let's just say I'm skeptical.

Cathy I loved (past tense) the merlin app for bird sounds. ours worked for 5 days, then stopped. unknown reason. we submitted our email but it's not acknowledged, like somehow it doesn't go through. we unloaded reloaded it twice. when the 5 day trial was over, ours stopped working. DH was going to try loading it on his phone instead but we use the same email so I doubt it will work. any ideas? I am going to google for a way to contact cornell.

ETA cathy I found a help center for cornell and submitted the problem. hope I hear back because I think I would love this app.
ETA got a fix and I think it works.

some areas have wild turkeys everywhere! they are huge and fearless but extremely scrawny compared to domestic.

I rode around the neighborhood on my mt bike for 5 miles yesterday. today we tried to ski but when we got to the trail, turned out DH had not put my ski boots in the car. we walked around, uphill for 45 minutes but that was not interesting. lots of snow left. we only could drive to 3900 feet. the road goes higher. might try again on friday. evidence of snowmobiles not long ago, so not on a weekend.

I worked 3 days in a row and I can really feel it. I did a 30 minute Peloton ride this morning before work. I'm off for a few days so I can get some longer workouts in. My STS 2.0 DVDs arrived today. I finished downloading the workouts this morning. Now I'm just waiting for the User's Guide so I can print it.

Carolyn-Great job with yoga, JS Pyramid Power Walk, High Reps and Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. I was surprised to get STS 2.0 so quickly. I thought it would be tomorrow or Friday.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Full Body with Dumbbells and Stability Ball, Raw Box 4 Your Waistline, CDorner Step Aerobics & Kickboxing and CDorner Step Aerobics #293 Latin Flair. I have an older 50 inch TV in my gym and we have a 58 inch TV in our living room. We don’t have space for anything larger.

Cathy- Great job with 30 Minute Kickboxing Express and Boss Loops. I bet you will love your new TV. I hope your STS 2.0 arrives tomorrow.

Valerie-Great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body, XTrain Abs and the mt bike ride.

Today I did CDorner Hiit Step with dumbbells, 32 minutes, 139 calories, heart rate 115/141, 1,100 steps (maybe a bit more as I forgot to look at starting steps till 4 minutes in) She uses 10# and 8# dumbbells which I did as well except overhead press which I switched to 5's.
I then did CDorner 80's Rock no equipment hiit using the modifier for most of it and skipping the warm up, 24 minutes, 120 calories, heart rate 128/157, 1,349 steps. This was fun because the music was good and even with the modifications I got a good workout. I avoided most of the moves that were plank type moves and butt kick or whatever they call that move. I had already done plank type moves on the step workout. Total time was 56 minutes, 259 calories, 2,449 steps.
Not much sleep again last night. I was so restless, and I tried some melatonin and I fell asleep for 15 minutes then was wide awake. I almost went back to sleep once and then was startled by what sounded like knocking and went and checked the door. I should have known no one would be there as my dog would have started barking. I don't know what it was. Then a thump I identified as my dogs nylabone hitting the floor off her bed. I got outside again and trimmed off roses and took care of plants. Also go all of the lights hung back on the fence with new batteries. I went out tonight though and two are not working so I guess I will be messing with them. Maybe they need more sun.

Carolyn, nice work on Kelly's Cardio Quick Fix workout 1 today. I saw my dvds on the Post office informed delivery and they should arrive in the morning. Of course, tomorrow will be more of a rushed morning so getting them and deciding what to do right away may not happen. I need to be ready when my husband gets up so we can drop the Jeep off to be serviced.

Cathy, I like hearing the birds chirping in the mornings. Not that I see many of them. Once they put the houses in behind us I quit seeing the owl that was probably looking for field mice behind us. It would perch on the fence. It is so peaceful early like that. Our neighbors have caged birds on their patio that chirp all of the time.

Valerie, nice that you got a ride around the neighborhood yesterday. I am sorry that you did not get to ski.

Judy, I am sure you will enjoy your days off. I looked and I guess the manual for the workouts will not be up till the on demand stuff is all set up. Somehow it affects the Workout Guide. I remember this from before though and it took even longer to get the workouts up on the workout manager other times. We will see. She said next week probably.

Today I did Perfect Pump Lower Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 49 minutes and 224 calories burned. My average heart rate was 119 and maximum heart rate was 167.

Cathy, waking up earlier than you want to is never fun, but you made good use of your time. Your walk sounds very enjoyable with all of the birds that you were able to identify.

Valerie, nice job with riding in your neighborhood. I’m sorry that the skiing didn’t work out.

Judy, great job doing your Peloton ride after work. I was also surprised to get STS 2.0 yesterday. I expected it to come today.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner step workouts. I’m glad to have my STS 2.0 but I don’t plan to jump right in with them. I’m going to take my time to preview and to look at the User Guide when it’s ready.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

had to go in for a blood draw early this morning and we had an appt with a specialist in water leak detection. he spent some time with DH trying to locate source of a "possible" water leak that seems not to exist. very complicated. we have a pressurizer on our water system and its more likely that's where the issue lies but the pressurizer company insists thats not it. so we will let the experts duel it out. we could not find a leak anywhere. at least we know there's not a small leak somewhere, and fault most likely is how the pressurizer itself works. after that, we went for a 15 mile bike ride. hour 20 minutes. lovely morning out.

cathy the merlin app is working now after using a different address to send the confirmation to. very prompt response from them and the first try fixed it. I get the idea its not uncommon.

the cottonwoods have let loose with the spring puff balls. looks almost like snow there is so much flying around. our garage is always a mess. when you open the door it sucks in about an acre of white fluff . no point in trying to clean it up until the trees stop shedding seed.
