Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/19

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I was so tired, I did not feel like doing anything. Spent a lot of time on the couch reading.

Hope everyone had a nice restful day. :)

Hi Everyone,

Friday I did ICE MM Triceps and Icy Core 1. It was my day off and Chris also had a day off so we ran some errands and did some shopping. Saturday I worked 10 hours, 10-8 and yesterday I worked 8-4:30. I changed my availability for work to not work later than 4:30 during the week and 6:00 on weekends. That won't go into effect until June 10 so I still have 3 more weeks of this schedule. I do not like working evenings at all. I am much more of a morning person and I definitely do not like being scheduled to work at night then have to come in first thing the next day like I was this weekend. The other issue with nights is that they seem to have the worst customers coming in after 5. There are a lot more customer service issues and even the other employees seem to be cranky and in a bad mood after 5. Right now I am just so ready to be done with this job, physically and mentally. It's no wonder they can't keep employees. I am off today and tomorrow this week and will be getting caught up on Cathe workouts. I am starting the LiTe One Month Rotation today. I won't be doing the workouts in the same order as the rotation but I will try to get in every workout during the week. Today I will be doing all of Pyramid Pump.

Deb-reading on the couch sounds like a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday!

Diane Sue-The Raw Stretch is really good. It's kind of like Yin Yoga. I feel very relaxed and stretched out after doing it.

Carolyn-I hope you had a nice rest day.

Valerie-Have a safe trip!

Hi to Lori!

Judy

We are heading to MT . On the road. My arm is vastly better. Such a weird thing ! I had minor issues with a bump inside wrist area but never thought until recently it could have been a ganglion cyst. I had an appt with the hand specialist for it but then it self corrected. I may have had a partial or complete tendon rupture but it got better so quickly I'm not so sure. depending on whether it re forms, I may need to have it drained or removed at some point but should not be that big a deal.
ETA I thought this posted yesterday while we were driving but no. took 10.5 hours drive but mostly straight shot down the interstate so not stressful, just long. the stress was a couple days ago when we realized we could not do the camper trip we'd planned, and had to change everything to fit something else.

it is still winter here and there was a dusting of snowed higher on the hills. loads of elk still basically in the our back yard. we read forecasts so have lighter clothes but still brought winter level stuff so we should be able to do things anyway. we ordered my new step for here. it was $69. I brought my extra risers here so I will have a variable height step or a bench handy. the third bedroom is our exercise room. we won't have a load of gear but enough to keep busy when outdoor things aren't good. easier to do weights on a bench rather than flat on the floor. still have a useful extra bed, a futon.

Judy you have completely changed my opinion of what a job at HD would be like. Not that I am looking for a job, but I thought it would be maybe tedious but low stress. I should ( duh) know that dealing with the general public these days would be hard. there used to be more social restraints on behavior, but they aren't too prevalent any more.

Today I did Athletic Training from the Low Impact Series. My time was 59 minutes with 351 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 166.

Deb, reading is perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It’s important to rest when our bodies need to do so.

Judy, it’s good that you added some time limits to your availability for work. It seems that they are taking advantage of those with a good work ethic. I think that you will like the LiTE rotation although I was ready to add other workouts by week 4.

Valerie, I’m glad that you had a good drive. It’s hard for me to imagine that you still have snow there. We are in the high 80’s today and yesterday. You are right about the decline of social restraints on behavior and discourse. Sadly, I see it everywhere.

Diane Sue, I hope that you had a good rest day.

Hello to Lori.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Step Drills and Compound Moves, 38 minutes, met 8.2, 247 calories, heart rate 136, max 173, 2,743 steps. I used 12# dumbbells which is what Kelly used for this. I then did Coffey Fit Raw REal Raw #3, 38 minutes, heart rate average 118, max 155, met 6.0, 191 calories, 1,491 steps. Total time was 76 minutes, 4,234 steps, 438 calories.
I had to run to Sprouts for some things since tomorrow is a busy day and there will not be time. They are saying extreme weather coming in. Big chances for tornadoes and hail as large as baseballs. I hope they are wrong. They always give the worst case. Schools closed all over. It has rained some, but the bigger storms are late afternoon and tonight. Still storms in the morning. I am hoping for not too much flooded roads when I go pick up the grandchildren. When I lived out there I remember trying to find a route to get around water. It ran across the road from one field to another. It looked like one large lake. That is the road I need to go down. I may drive out of my way to come in from another route. I will see what happens.
REAL RAW #3 38 minutes
Each muscle group worked one side at a time to elicit more core/balance work and focus. Some cardio interspersed to keep up the energy. Kelly uses 10,12,15# dbs and 8's at the last finishing segment. 30 seconds work each set

Deb, nice that you had a good rest.

Judy, I would imagine the employees and evening shoppers are all pretty done with the day by that time. That is good you were able to change up when you will work. That is how I feel every time I finish Kellys Raw stretch. Everything is loosened up so well.

Valerie, enjoy your time in MT. Hard to think of it still being winter temps when I am sitting here with the fans going. It is nice that you will have the things that you need to work out there as well as at home.

Carolyn, nice work on Athletic Training today. My rest day was really trying to get things done. I did sit down after church and watch a movie with my husband since he had one all picked out and ready :)

Today I did LiTe Pyramid Pump, 82 minutes and 462 calories burned. It's nice to have a couple of days off. I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow so that will be nice too.

Diane Sue-Great workout today! I hope you stay safe and that the storms are not as bad as predicted.
I am glad I was able to change my hours. I just wish I would have done it a couple of weeks ago.

Valerie-My husband has always said he wanted to work at HD when he retires. I think my experience has changed his mind. You are right about less social restraints on behavior. I think almost any retail job is much worse now because of that. I think the thing that has shocked me the most is how angry and irritable people are that are shopping in the garden area. I thought gardening was a happy, low stress activity but apparently not around here.

Carolyn-Great job with Athletic Training! I think I will like the LiTe rotation and that it will work well with my current work situation. I will be happy to get back to a better work schedule and even happier when my hours decrease. I'm not even sure if I will be staying after June 21, since my 4 months of being a seasonal/temp will be over.

H it Deb & Lori!

Judy

Good evening ladies,

Such a long week last week. Up early to workout and home later than I like. Still keeping up with my LEKfit/BBS workouts. I also just signed up for a free trial at Perispirology. They have bounce and hiit/weight workouts. Reminds me of LEKfit. Going to try a few of the workouts. I won’t keep the site but will be fun to try out.

Looks like everyone had some great workouts last week.

Judy...After reading your posts I know I will never work at a HD!! That surprises me about the anger with guest. Why do people need to be so nasty?

Valerie...have a great trip. Glad you are feeling some relief with your arm. I finally got rid of the tendonitis in my forearm. Took forever and recently I just noticed it does not hurt anymore. I think using less heavy weights and more light weights/high rep workouts helped a great deal.

Deb...how has your hip been? You have been doing some good workouts. I never leave the house with anything running. Would never forgive myself if something happened with our pets in the house. I recently read to put your avocados in the fridge to stall the ripening. Makes sense! I have not read that chicken article. I like chicken and don’t think I want to read about it!! Lol! Lately I have been buying organic so thinking it is certainly better.

Carolyn... you are always so great with rotations. I loved Cathe’s Breakfast. We eat a similar one on weekends. Love avocados on toast. I do not microwave much either and never in plastic. Always glass. They laugh at me at work. Our paper plates are coated and I will not use them in the microwave.

Diane Sue...as always some great workouts. I have not heard of that cookware. Going to look into it. Your new oven sounds very nice. Enjoy! I have been using the instant pot for frozen chicken breast lately. I cook in the morning and wrap up for my husband for lunch. He loves them.

Have a great night all. Still trying to catch up on everyone’s posts!

I did reved up rumble and abs 1 today. not feeling energized after the long drive. I'm over most of the forearm discomfort, not all. a very weird experience. wont do any weights for a few more days, but we did some heavy lifting today and it was fine. we are hiking tomorrow.

Juy IMO people have adopted "pay it forward" in both positive and negative ways. they will pass on the ugliness they received in their workday just as quickly as they will do something kind. and its like brakes have come off when to comes to expressing anger.

I don't like reading about food contamination except as a reminder to be careful about washing surfaces, disinfecting, not cross contaminating uncooked chicken tools and plates with cooked.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I did get a facial yesterday and that was really nice.

Judy, that sounds like a good decision. I would think Memorial Day weekend would be the busiest, but then again, all summer people are buying plants etc. I can fully understand why you would not want to work evening hours. Enjoy your massage!

Valerie, glad you arm is better. Have a great time in MT! Di you bring snow shoes?

Diane Sue, I hope the weather predictions were wrong. How is it going?

Lori, Nice workouts and great that you found a new streaming that you will like. No worries, I think the organic chicken is ok. :) My hip has been better, its the knee that I am working on now.

Carolyn, kudos to you on sticking to that rotation!

Take care,

Today I did Intensity Step Only premix. My time was 36 minutes with 260 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 157.

Judy, great job with LiTE Pyramid Pump. I was exhausted when I did the full workout. I decided to stick with upper or lower body only. A massage sounds wonderful.

Lori, traveling for work can be exhausting. Glad that you were able to get your workouts in.

Waving hello to Deb, Diane Sue, and Valerie. Have a wonderful day.

I am going to have to do a quick check in. We survived the worst of the storms. It went past us and we just got the heavy downpour all night. This morning I did Fit Split Boxing mix, 35 minutes, 248 calories, met 8.0, heart rate 138 average, max 167, 3,010 steps. I then did Fit Split Low Impact cardio, 27 minutes, 196 calories, met 8.5, 1,759 steps. Total time 62 minutes, 444 calories, 4,769 steps.

Diane sue that must be terrifying. I left the Midwest in big part because I could not stand the weather, thunderstorms and tornados, were a big part. THAT is scary. be safe, be careful.

deb it snowed a little bit, a dusting on trees up high but most of the snow is long gone. there are patchy spots and if you go high enough, there is certainly plenty, but we won't be doing that. it is old, rotten snow and not good for travel. You can still find places to ski but Im not that good a skier.

we did a hike in the park this morning. I forgot to stop my timer but at least 3 or 4 hours. the elevation is high to start with, and this trail goes up a ways and goes for 20 miles at least. we saw so much stuff today, it was wonderful!. it is spring and the babies are arriving. baby bison! OMG they are cute. lots of them! pronghorns don't calve until next month. elk are starting now. we saw hundreds of elk, starting in our back yard and then all over the park. so one turnout we saw a coyote, a group of bison with little cinnamon colored babies, and a sandhill crane all in the same field. saw lots of sandhills, heard a snipe. saw American avocets, a shore bird. loads of birds bluebirds, nutcrackers, warblers. then another coyote. they aren't that special but always have to make sure its a coyote and not a wolf. prairie dogs are out! millions of them. so cute. we saw a badger digging up and chasing around in the prairie dog colony. we hiked past pronghorns, bison /babies, and elk, and up a ridge with a specific goal. I stopped to take a flower pic, and DH was a little ahead and suddenly was galloping back waving, a grizzly bear sow with 2 tiny cubs running across the ridgeline just ahead of us. she kept going as far as we could tell, so we changed course and went the opposite direction, up a lesser bump close by to survey the territory and see if she was still around. we got to the top and DH turned to me and said, did I see anything? as I topped the hill, all I could do was point with my pole and turn as there was another grizzly a 100 to 150 yrds away. we could clearly see his face, not the same one with the cubs. we got down from there in a big hurry, and worked back to a different area to see if it was clear. you would not want to meet a bear on the route downhill, and since the first bear, we just wanted to see clearly that we weren't walking back toward her because we could not tell where she went. so that was enough, we looked at the goal spot, but no way going there with that many bears! we saw at least one more on open slopes up near our goal. we ran into two park rangers on our way down and chatted with them about the bears. they were trail crewing the area. we saw the badger again on our way own. all these years of hiking and only our second time seeing one.
I use poles and my am and wrist worked ok. no discomfort or pain. I LOVE this.

Today I took an unplanned rest day. I had an early meeting and didn’t want to get up earlier today. I will be sure to get in my steps today which shouldn’t be a problem since I have been doing some housework.

Valerie, it sounds like it is so beautiful in your vacation area. The hiking with all that wildlife sighting is wonderful.

Hello to everyone and have a great afternoon.

Good afternoon,

I had PT this morning. It was my last session. Finally reviewed my x-ray with the head guy there. Nothing serious there. He did say I had a little arthritis. No surprise. I figured that unless they had some new treatment, there was no real reason to continue going there. I can do everything they do there at home, except for the "stims" treatment.

Diane Sue, glad that the worst of the storm passed by you. I bet it was a good test for that leak problem you had a while ago.

Valerie, you have your own "Wild Kingdom" there! So much to see.

Hi to Judy and Lori,

Take care,

For me, today, I did Cathe LIte Calorie Crush from Metabolic Blast with the warm up, 18 minutes, heart rate 138 average, max 169, met 7.60, 144 calories, 1,627 steps. I then did Lite Calorie Crush from Body Weight and Bands ( I am getting used to wearing the band for the cardio now) 9 minutes, met 8.0, 72 calories, heart rate average 140, max 170, 837 steps. I finished with Fit Split Metabolic Conditioning + Abs, 45 minutes, heart rate average 110, max 151, met 6.0, 239 calories, 915 steps. Total time was 72 minutes, 455 calories, 3,379 steps
I used Cathe's weights or a bit higher on a few moves. I am dragging today. I think all of this rain has stirred up mold allergies. I was doing fine till this all started, now I am a mess. Hardly sleeping is catching up. Roads were blocked in many places yesterday so there was a lot of back and forth driving trying to get to the grandchildren and back. It is going to rain more and I ran to do a couple of errands this morning.

I will come back in a little bit to do catch up. I have to get away from the computer for a bit.
