Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/18

Good morning,

I did 30 minutes of Cardio Coach this morning. I find that if I exercise, the pain behind my knee is less during the day. Last day of work before vacation.

Valerie, glad your mother is being released, hope she is able to go home for a while, at least to give your brother a chance to find a decent place for her. I always fear flat tires when I ride my bike, but we don't go as far as you and your DH. Pretty much stay on paths where you could walk back to the car easily.

Lynda, the only reason we changed doctors a few years ago is because the company changed our medical coverage and the doctor we had did not take the new one. They changed again to one that he took, but I felt strange jumping back again, so stayed with Dr#2 until the episode last December happened. I saw that through with Dr#2 ( did not feel comfortable with him after the episode) but now it is time for my yearly physical, it's a good time to change. I think you are right, the zinnias did not look the same as the tall ones. I hope these are the right ones. I love them for cut flowers. NY is a no fault state as well.

Hi to Josie, Judy and Lori,

Work, agility class then NOTHING!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Supercuts (45:55). Hate those sit-throughs. I think I will substitute that move from Afterburn, where you just put your leg through back and forth. I also managed to get in a 3 mile walk with Max last night--a break in the rain.

Valerie, I imagine a full-time nurse would be pretty expensive. I remember Joan was the full-time caretaker for her mom, who lived with her and had multiple problems with her legs and mobility.

I have been watching episodes from the first year of The West Wing which are from 1999, and I feel like the same politics are being played out today. Nothing dated about this series at all. Aaron Sorkin is a very astute writer.

Planning a little cookout for this Memorial Day, but other than that nothing special this weekend.

Good afternoon ladies,

Yesterday I did Cathe's Live All About Legs and LOVED it! Had so much variety, weights, plyo, firewalker, stability ball and barre to top it off. My legs were exhausted by the end. No workout this morning as I never turned my alarms on. Chester started barking to go out that god so I still got up in time to shower and dress. Just no workout. Not sure what I will do tonight.

My plans for the weekend is taking down our above ground pool and the deck that circles half of it. The wall caved a bit last winter so it needs to come down. We have had our fun over the years and are good with it going. I had a dumpster delivered today and my son has lined up a couple of big friends. I plan to keep the deck portion only and circle it around the sand circle that will be left once pool is removed and build a nice fire pit in the middle. Won't get to that this weekend but will be soon.

Monday I will go to New Bedford (home city about 2 hours away) and meet my younger brother to plant flowers on our parents grave. Our dad has been gone for 49 years and mom 20 years. We took over once our mom passed and we have never missed a memorial weekend no mater the weather.

Lynda...I do not like that movement either. I find it puts too much stress on my shoulders.

Deb...I saw that the KCM new DVD's have shipped. Yeah! Hate when you have to switch doctors because of insurance. I love my doctor!

Valerie...Glad your mom has improved a bit.

Josie...hope the haircut came out nice!

Hi to Judy!

Hi Ladies,

Today was a rest day. Went to lunch with my workout partner and the rest of the day I'm going to watch a movie or just read. Tomorrow we have a 22 mile ride and a picnic right after and on Sunday another short ride and then taking my bike to be shipped to San Francisco.

Lori, my haircut looks nice. I asked the barber to cut it very short so that I don't get the curliest in the front :). I just need a little gel to style it when I'm at camp. Was your dad in the service?

Garance, no cookout for us. I will be packing on Monday and may go spinning early in the morning.

Deb, I would hate it if I had o change my doctor. I've known her for the last 6 years.

Valerie, I hope that you can find a solution for your mom soon.

Hi Judy!

Josie

Josie....my dad was in the Navy in the Korean War. My mom always made sure he had beautuful flowers on memorial day and she kept them up throughout the summer. We took on this tradition when she passed. My brother lives close by so he does the up keep. One year it was pouring out but because this was the only day out of the weekend we could do it we did! I know our parents did not know what to make of their two youngest kids!

Good morning and Happy Weekend.

I am going to meet my friend for lunch today, but need to go to the grocery store first, then start making the dog's food.

Lynda, I hate those sit-throughs too. Some of the core work that Cathe does leaves me depressed. I sometimes just sit there and watch and wait until they are finished, then start up again. You just reaffirmed my feelings on politics...some things never change.

Lori, that is such a wonderful tradition that you do with the flowers etc. I didn't see where KCM said she shipped the new DVD's?

Josie, so they ship your bike, but you drive yourself and all your other equipment to SF? Then you ride back with all your other stuff? or do they ship that back to you? Sorry for all the questions! :)

Hi to Valerie & Judy,

Have a nice weekend!

Hi Ladies,

Getting ready for my short ride:). It is 62 degrees and cloudy, so it's a nice day to ride.

Deb, the bikes are shipped and we are flying to SF. We are assigned a gear truck tat caries our stuff for the whole week. Go to aidslifecycle.org and look at life on camp. It is very well organized.

Lori, my dear uncle that passes away recently was also in the Korean War. My DS was in the Navy for 10 years. That is such a beautiful tradition that you and your family keep.

I will be back after my ride.

Josie

That's always the issue with one-way rides or hikes ..... you have to make provisions for parking your car safely and somehow get back to get it, or get a ride from someone else. or like Josie is doing, fly to the start point.
there are some shorter rides around here that we do on islands. the issue is parking your car at the ferry terminal costs as much as taking the car on the ferry so we usually take the car which is also nice if there's a mechanical or weather problem. you have a way back to the ferry other than your bike. we just had the issue with DH's flat tire. we had an extra tube but the pump failed. (bought a new one yesterday). it would have been a long walk for him especially in those horrid bike shoes. at least I can walk, as I ride in tennies.

a cheer for new bike hand pumps. wow, they work great! not that expensive and very readable gauge to get air pressure right. WAY easier than air compressors or gas stations.

we are slowly making progress on streaming. we bought a roku device yesterday and a cable. we are looking at TV antennas for local news. there are maps showing conflicting info on whether we are in decent signal range or not. I'd forgotten our previous antenna experience was before signals went digital.

watched 3 movies recently. Nebraska. August, Osage county, and Philomena. the first two were tedious and annoying, regardless the star studded casts. I liked Philomena. we tried Doc Martin but neither of us cared for it. watching one called Top of the Lake that so far is interesting.

another rant about sit-throughs. I modify with mountain climbers.

Deb...my KCM came today! Judy I think you ordered also. We just finished taking the pool and deck down and the dumpster is full. No way can I workout today....this was an unbelievable task. Taking my DS out to eat tonight and after that bed!

Lori & Deb-I didn't get the KCM DVDs today, I'll probably get them Tuesday.

We are spending the weekend cleaning out FIL's house. SIL rented a dumpster and it's almost 3/4 full. That's only from the stuff that was in his garage! We'll start on the basement tomorrow.
