Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/15

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Fit and Firm Live but I had a lot of problems midway through with the streaming. I did finish it, but I think I missed some of the band work.

Lori, I really feel for you. I know how much I missed that morning tail wagging with one of my dogs a long time ago now. I am sure you made the right decision. Our last dog was primarily my husband's and he waited too long--carrying the dog around from place to place outside to be next to where he was working and helping him to stand. It was just too hard for him to let go. Finally he called the vet to come up to the farm to put him to sleep. He is buried on our property in one of the places he loved.

Diane Sue, you are reminding me of my now neglected ICE den vds. I think I did Bootcamp only a couple times. After my frustration this morning, I think I will do a dvd tomorrow.

Deb, I have not even thought about planting any annuals or buying baskets. Every time it feels possible, the weather takes a nasty turn.

Judy, I hope you are feeling better.

Hi to Valerie! Are you off to Montana yet??

Today I did Ice Low Impact Sweat, both workouts with Core 2 mix, 60 minutes, 355 calories. This was almost half what the workout manager has for calories. I overslept this morning so I was scrambling to get the children up and ready for school in 20 minutes. Fortunately my granddaughter got up about the same time and had jumped in the shower. I hate racing around like that. It was a grab and run breakfast morning for them. My alarm on my tablet turned off. I think because I have it set for sound so I can tell it to snooze or turn off. I checked and it had turned off about the same time my brother had messaged me and the vibration probably turned it off or something. My granddaughters ipad didn't go off either. We had thunderstorms last night.

Deb, it is cool here right now. We have gone from the 70s and 80's to 50's and 60's. My plants survived the winter this year. I had them grouped next to the dryer vent so I guess that helped some At our last home I put a lot of bark around them and put them on the covered patio next to the house. It was closed in on 3 sides. Generally we don't have a hard and long winter so even things like the cannas freeze but come back.

Lynda, it is frustrating when trying to stream something and having it not work. I think it is almost worse though when trying to do a workout. We were trying to stream Inception since we had it on Vudu last night and I finally just had to reboot the whole system. I am enjoying the Ice workouts. I was looking over all of the pre-mixes and mish moshes. There are so many options.

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been doing much. Just some stretching today and an SB core workout yesterday. I feel a little better today and am hoping that I will getting back to my normal workout schedule soon.

Lorie, thanks for sharing. I know how strange it seems to have part of your family not in all of the usual spots and going through the usual routine with you.

Judy, did the doctor give you an idea of how long you would have your symptoms. I would think maybe you would need to be careful of doing too much while the body is recovering. I am glad to hear that you are feeling better. For some reason I thought that it took several weeks to recover. Maybe I am thinking of something else.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Strong Total Body. This is another one up there with my favorite Live workouts. The airport was good, Kylee has about enough after about an hour...me too.

Lori, that is a beautiful video of Chester, he had a wonderful life.

Lynda, what was going on with your streaming? Funny, yesterday I had problems with my HRM...it kept giving me an error "check the transmitter, no heart rate detected"...I have not had that issue in a long time. Maybe the battery in the watch, I hope not the one in the strap. How sad for Kim as well. It is really hard to make that decision about a pet...our own emotions takes over and we sometimes stop thinking about how the pet feels.

Diane Sue, I sometimes wonder where the workout manager gets those calories burned readings? They seem high to me as well. I guess the iPad is not so reliable as the good ol' fashioned alarm clock. I agree, the ICE workouts are probably the series with the most choices and options.

Judy, glad you are feeling better, when is your follow up with the DR? tomorrow? or next Thursday?

Valerie, assume you are on the road to Montana, safe travels.

Hi Josie,

We are meeting with our lawyer this morning, finally getting our will finished, a Power of Attorney and healthcare proxy....all those fun things...

Take care,

My follow up is Friday morning. I will be done with the 7 days of acyclovir tomorrow. I'm hoping that I don't have to take it another week.
He didn't say anything to me about how long I would have symptoms, or even what symptoms to expect. He just said it was good I came in when I did. I do agree about being careful and not doing too much. I won't over do it. Maybe I will start back next week, doing something every other day until I feel like I have recovered completely.

Judy, that sounds like a good plan :)

Deb, when I took the voice activation off of the alarm it made me push the red button this morning. We were all up early today. I could not imagine taking Gertie to the airport! She is a pretty big dog though. I downloaded a book to try to work on tricks with her. I think she gets bored sometimes with ball fetching and holding treats on her nose. She chases a laser light in the house up and down stairs when we can't go outside. We just had to order a new one because I could not find one in the stores,

Lori it will take time. It's one of the hardest things but waiting too long is not a kindness.we waited too long with our dog and I always regretted. It.

We did a lovely ride yesterday part of the Trail of the coeur d'alenes old rr right of way. And very pretty. Easy riding, flat and scenic. Sara moose, deer, loads of different birds.. About 38 miles. Doing our builder meeting this morning. Will try to do a hike tomorrow then heading home. This was not intended to be much of a vacation.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did RS with 1 lb. gloves (48 min.).

Lori, what a lovely montage of Chester's moments. Beautiful face.

The chef that Kim originally collaborated with is returning for a couple weeks to celebrate Mezze's 20 year anniversary, and he is doing a dim sum tasting menu tonight. So we are going to that. I will try not to eat much for lunch today because it looks so good and so varied. We always have a catered lunch with our seminars, so that is what I have to control. I will also have to control my dismay at how poorly written the thesis is by the student fellow. I mean, really, how do you mistake their for there and affects for effects? The reason why I retired--could not stand reading and grading student papers anymore. At least her major is not English. It's Economics.

Today I did the Ice low impact sweat pre-mix, blizzard blast with the warm up and stretch, 20 minutes, HR 111/143 112, calories. I then did the Sweat muscle meltdown back 4 rnds premix, skipping the warm up and stretch, 27 minutes, 128 calories. I followed this with the Ice Bootcamp circuit muscle meltdown pre-mix 4 rnds biceps giant sets (ouch) 31 minutes, 168 calories. 78 minutes total time, 408 calories. I kind of wonder about the blizzard blast calories. I felt I worked hard even though it is short. While I was in the 3rd round of back my watch battery quit so I had to stop and put a new battery in it. My arms were pretty fatigued by the time I hit the 4th round.
Muscle Meltdown Back 4 rounds Giant sets
One arm row 30# all 4 rounds 12 reps
Pull over 30# all 4 rounds
one arm wide row 25# all 4 rounds
one arm pull over 15# all 4 rounds
Deadlift 30# each hand all 4 rounds
Muscle Meltdown 4 rounds 12 reps
Standing curls dumbbells 20's rnd. 1; 17.5's 2 rnds. ; 15's final rnd.
standing hammer curl dumbbells 20's; 17.5's 2 rnds. ; 15's final rnd
preacher curl 15's all 4 rnds
incline hammer curl 17.5's rnd 1 and 2; 15's rnd 3 and 4
concentration curl 17.5's 3 rnds; last round 15's

Valerie, that sounds like a pleasant ride. Enjoy your hike tomorrow.

Lynda, the tasting menu sounds fun. I would think that the student would have proof read his thesis. I am sure with your profession you would be good at catching those errors :)

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I took a rest day.

Question: did anyone else go to Windows 10 on your PC? I know most of you use Apple products, just wondering if anyone has experienced the conversion. I turned on my PC this morning, and after months of turning down the option of going to Windows 10, it automatically started the download...no way to stop it.

Judy, I hope all goes well tomorrow at the follow up DR appointment.

Diane Sue, I had 2 of my previous dogs able to do the Fisher Price Rock-a-Stack....always made people laugh.

Valerie, I hope you have a productive meeting with the builder. It will be a challenge for sure, building something like that from so far away.

Lynda, that tasting meal sounds delicious!

Hi to Lori & Josie,
A workout, then hopefully working in the yard today, it's supposed to be in the 70's YAY.

Take care,

Deb- we have 2 PCs on Windows 10. It takes some getting used to. I don't think you have to install it if it downloads.

Judy, it installed automatically...no way to not do it except for just turning off the power...not sure what that would have done in the middle of converting files/programs etc. I just spent about 30 minutes on a live chat with Microsoft to get Outlook 2013 program to go back on line....fun...

Ok, I remember we had trouble with Outlook 2013 too. I still have a few minor issues with it, but it works most of the time. Chris had us install
Windows 10 when it first came out and we had some hardware compatibility issues with it. The hardware companies should have come out with new drivers by now so you shouldn't have too much trouble there.

Deb, I am still declining windows 10. It did pop up once and try to get me to set a day to download it. It took me awhile to figure out how to get out of it. I had read once that the dvd drive would quit working, but my aunt did it and says her dvd drive works. She is just having problems getting all of her programs working.
I hope it doesn't try downloading on my computer. I have it set to ask before updates.

Hi,

I had turned it down many times in the past months, including when they would set up an "appointment" for my computer to download it. Today was different, I got rid of the box with the download, and came here....and then it just started downloading. The same thing happened to the guy in our dog club that manages our web page, and my cousin said it happened to her yesterday, even after she declined the download. I think they are getting tired of people declining and figure they can just do it.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Total Body Tone Up (47 min.).

Last night was fun and very tasty. I had three different dim sum and it was quite enough--small plates. Talk about busy! The tables were sold out and it was pretty crazy with all these carts rolling around and people pointing at what they wanted to try. I think Kim had 6 different small plates and dessert as well. But he's so skinny it just doesn't matter.

Well, I finally broke down in a fit of probably unwarranted optimism and bought some hanging plants. I hope I will not be regretting my purchase when it starts snowing again.

Deb, I think Kim had the same issues with Windows 10, but he has a local techie guru come and fix things regularly. Sometimes technology seems to be more of a burden than a blessing.

Diane Sue, you sound super busy with your grandchildren. I don't know how you manage to get in those workouts as well.

Lori, I hope you are healing from your loss. I'm sure it will take some time. GOT was really good this past Sunday--lots of brother/sister reunions.

Judy, good luck on your checkup tomorrow! I will be going in to have my blood work done.

Valerie, when do you think you will begin building? Do you already have plans?

Hi to Josie!

Today I did 21 Day Fix Extreme Lower Fix, 35 minutes, 221 calories, heart rate 117 avg/ 136 max. I don't know why there are so many instructors going to jumping moves with the lower body. I like to just to the strength work without jumping. I used 12 and 15# dumbbells for this. I then did 21 Day Fix 10 minute hardcore, 11 minutes, 51 calories. I liked this one. I finished with Pilates Fix Extreme, 34 minutes, 130 calories. This was not an easy workout. I liked it. It used the b lines (tubing throughout) It had a lot of core work in it. Total time was 80 minutes and calories burned 402. I was disappointed in the 21 Day countdown to competition plan. I thought it would be a book of sorts. Not a pamphlet. The idea of having oatmeal and egg white for breakfast and 7 meals of cod fish and veggies in a day is a bit nauseating. I like fish but I doubt I would want to do that very much. Maybe I need to read it over better. My daughter and her husband got back from Alaska today and picked up my grandson. We took the children out to a charbroiler last night so I did not eat so well. Hopefully today I can get started back to tracking, I took my granddaughter to school a bit late this morning. She was late getting around because she stayed up till 2 am working on stuff for her finals.

Deb, I just had that screen for scheduling pop up. It said on the 22 at night and I canceled it. I did notice my Avast anti virus pop up and give some sort of authorization for the Windows 10. Maybe I had better go to Avast and see if I can change that. I really do not want to have to pay someone to figure out my computer for me. I think that is just wrong for things to be able to take over the computer for us when we say no. I have several things I keep stopping on my updates. I bet that was cute when the dogs put the rings on the rocking stacker. I wonder if Gertie would try chewing on the rings. She is pretty good at identifying what is hers and what is not to chew on. She does have a couple of kids toys that she drags out once in awhile but she just lays them down on the floor. My dog Mudd used to like those beanie babies and would put them in her crate along with socks just to have them.

Lynda, I used to be the person that could eat anything and not gain a pound. My husband used to tease that I could out eat him. Things have changed though. I catch the pounds creeping up at times and I have to work on it. It was fun having the children here and a couple of mornings I was really tempted to skip the workout by the time I got them to school and came back home. I told my husband I was exhausted and I think there is a reason that we become just grandparents when we are old :)
