Good morning,

Yesterday I did some weeding/mulching in the garden while it was still warm. A cold front moved in and it got progressively colder as the day went on. I took Keegan to class yesterday and he was like a puppy! Did all the runs flawlessly, and seemed to really enjoy it. Of course, this is after I kind of decided to retire him from agility trials since his performance at our April trial. I didn;t enter him in the upcoming June one, and now I sort of wish I had. Dogs...!

Judy, I hope you do not have to take that med for very long. It sounds like it has some nasty side effects. Most often I have heard about shingles is that people get it on their backs.

Valerie, thanks for the info, I will consider it, ask my DR about it. He has never offered or questioned if I wanted it etc. I wonder what causes it in some people and not others? The leg seems ok now. Not sure what it was. Putting in electricity and a well, it must be pretty rural. That is huge. Glad your knee is better....I never think about how I pedal, but will do so now that I know what it can do if you don't.

Lynda, that sausage fest sounds like fun and delicious!

Diane Sue, great workouts! I see you do preacher curls with 15#....wow, that is impressive. :). I agree, the Muscle Meltdowns can be done without the DVD, but it wouldn't be as fun. I like following Cathe better than working out alone.

Hi to Josie & Lori,

A workout, then not sure if Housemax or if we will be able to work in the yard...it is pretty cold out there right now....

Have a great weekend!

Good evening ladies!

Finished SB's challenge yesterday plus have done a couple Live workouts since I last posted. Yesterday I did the 2nd half of Thursday's workout after my SB and liked it. Worked well after my barre workout.

Judy...I am so sorry that you feel so bad. Hope this moves along quickly and you are feeling better soon. Bertucci's has amazing food and the rolls are amazing!

Valerie...have a great meeting with the builder. How exciting to be starting your home.

Lynda...I too had the Chicken Pox when younger and was loaded with them. I still have a couple of scars on my face, body from picking at them. When you are little you pick no matter what your parents say! Have a great afternoon with your son. Beautiful day for a sausage fest. When you have the right CEO the place is great. :)

Diane Sue...your poor brother. Shingles and Gillian-Barre? Terrible. I have heard the new dvd's will be sold separately but they will not be On Demand due to other partners in this project. Read this over on VF. In addition to my portable barre I installed a wall mounted barre. I use both equally.

Deb...here is the link for the barre. I have had it for a couple years now and very happy with it. I have also adjusted so I could use for modified pull ups. Was plenty sturdy enough.

Not sure what the workout will be today if any. Something is going on with Chester. Seems like his hip is in a lot of pain and you can clearly see he is uncomfortable. Happened while Bob was taking him for a walk yesterday. 5 minutes into it Chester just sat down and was not going any further. Fortunately, they were close by so he was able to get him home. He seemed fine just tired but at about midnight he started barking off an on for long periods so you know he is trying to tell us something. :(

Back from Vet...they think he hurt himself somehow while walking since it came on so quickly. He is already on the maximum dose of Tramadol so they gave him an injection of Rimadyl plus tablets to start him on tomorrow. Doctor said to give it a week and see if things improve. She seemed to be very hopeful We agreed to this so we will see what happens. Bob and I both agreed we will not want him to suffer and prolong things so we will see how things go. :(

Deb, yes, ask your doctor. I don't know how old you are exactly, and some of the things we've been talking about are recommended at certain ages. like 60, 62, 65. Like Lynda, I've had the 2 pneumonia shots, the shingles vaccine. a flu shot annually. I think all were covered 100% by insurance. no side effects except maybe slightly sore arm. I am thinking I also got a booster for (DPT)tetanus, pertussis, diphtheria in that time period too. your primary care person should bring these up and recommend when to do it. I consider these like mammograms .. don't enjoy it but a slightly sore arm for a day or two is not a big deal compared to the problem it can prevent. I think guillian barre is an immune disorder linked to different viruses, where your body attacks itself... nerves ....resulting in partial to complete paralysis that is usually but not always temporary. I think there's a connection to the zika virus and also other viruses ..... like chicken pox. Nothing you want to have.

Lori hope things settle down for Chester. so hard when you buddy has problem and you can't be sure what it is.

didn't do anything yesterday but cook, pack and load the camper. we never connected with the builder, not a real good start. we'd planned to leave today but with no contact, we are staying put. the weather improves as the week goes along.
Judy, hope you're feeling better.

I sat down and went thru the phone again adding back in all the deleted phone numbers. there is still some kind of issue between the phone and the desktops. maybe I'm being stupid here... I have a lot of phone numbers in the phone memory that I do not expect to be on the email program on the pc. but now they moved from the phone to the pc! things like the PUD.. I have their phone # for power outs, service questions, no reason to have it on the computer. I am not understanding why the devices seem to cross contaminate each other.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Ice Total Body Compound (43 min.). Yikes--my heart was really going during the first part. What's the difference between metabolic and compound?

Lori--I hope everything works out for Chester. It is so hard to lose a dog. My son and his friends had a great time playing golf yesterday--two rounds and a beautiful day. They were staying next door where our former governor, Jane Swift, has a house that she rents out while working up in Middlebury. They came over for dinner and we had a good time.

Deb, my doctor said that approximately 1/3 of people who have had chicken pox will get shingles after 60. Of course, for some it's no big deal, but I am hoping the vaccination protects me. Tetanus every 10 years unless you step on a rusty nail. Yesterday it felt like summer. Today it's in the 40s and very windy after a front with rain moved through last night. At least we are not in the plains, where apparently they are getting snow and freezing temps.

Valerie, I don't have any problems with all of my Apple stuff--Mac, iPad, iPhone. They seem to work together well. Maybe it's the pc vs. iPhone that creates problems?? Guillain Barre sounds awful! I still haven't looked it up.

Judy, I hope you are feeling better today. Did you get any warnings about side effects from Acyclovir?

Hi to Diane Sue!

Hi Everyone,

My headache went away and I feel a little better. The rash looks about the same. It hasn't spread.
It got cold again last night and we had some snow flurries this morning.

Deb-I have to take 3 pills a day for 7 days, so I will take my last one Friday morning, which is when I go back to the doctor.
I always thought that shingles occurred on the upper body so I was surprised that I would have it on my leg.
I had a deep tissue massage on Monday, the day before I noticed the rash. I did some reading on a shingles forum and some people think that a massage can trigger a shingles outbreak. I really hate to think that was the cause. I've never had anything like this from a massage before.

Lynda-yes, I did see some warnings about side effects. I think headache, dizziness, and upset stomach were the most common side effects listed.

Lori-I hope Chester feels much better this week. I know how hard it is to see him in pain :( I hope the shot helped.

Valerie-I'm going to talk to my doctor about the pneumonia and shingles vaccine. I will be getting the shingles one as soon as I can.

I called apple regarding the strange "syncing" between iphone and pc. I'd re-entered phone #'s to the phone, and all of them also went to the pc, sometimes in duplicate, mostly entries I didn't want on the pc. the tech I talked to understood exactly what had happened and helped me fix it. it is a simple setting change to how the pc and phone sync to icloud and each other. I don't know what DH talked about last week, but I think he didn't understand what kept happening. I was doing all the "editing". I was changing it on one end, while the devices busily undid or re-did the changes from the other. the tech said if I do it over now, it will stay the way I want it. so I did. almost done. oh please let this work! After I re-did the phone #'s yesterday, everything transferred to the pc. so it was time to get some help. so far it's working exactly like the tech said it would.
what got me going yesterday was I went to the phone for the builders number, and it had disappeared. so I looked closer, and a lot of other #'s had too, leaving behind email addresses only.
Judy, hope this all works out OK for you. I thought stress was more likely to trigger an outbreak, and a massage seems opposite of that. I think the issue is insurance may not pay for the shot until a certain age. It sure doesn't hurt to ask. I think it was several hundred $$ at the time if no coverage, but these things change all the time. the virus travels on a nerve pathway, and for most people it's on only one side, right side or left, not both. very common problem. I had it just below my waist on the left side.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did "Fit & Firm Live" ...another winner for Cathe. A good solid "5" metabolic workout. Cold and windy yesterday so no yard work...it was HouseMax and reading.

Lori, I hope Chester is ok and the meds work...it does sound like he hurt something. You're lucky that your vet is open on Sunday. Thanks for the link...I guess the one I have is ok...it is not that easy to move around though. Right now I keep my loaded barbell on it for quick use.

Valerie, Good that you finally got the phone contact issue fixed! Is your computer an Apple product too or a PC? Do you need all phone numbers on that as well as the phone? I just turned 63, I wonder why my DR has not suggested the shingles shot...mmm...maybe because he knows I do not get the flu shot. so he thinks I probably would not want this one either...I saw that they are advertising them at Walgreen's. I hope your builder contacts you soon. Not a good start for a project, especially one that is so far away. Will you be spending a lot of time there when they start?

Lynda, not sure about defining metabolic......I always thought "compound" moves were 2 moves together that worked 2 body parts, like plie squats with upright rows...

Judy, good that your headache is gone. Wow, a massage possibly causing shingles...that is interesting. I always heard it was stress related.

Hi to Josie, & Diane Sue,

A cardio workout, not sure what yet....No class tonight...Yay!

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I'm doing a little house work and laundry this morning. I plan on doing a light workout too. I probably won't try to do anything too strenuous until after my doctor appointment Friday morning.

Deb-That sounds like a fun workout! It was so cold and windy here yesterday too. Right now it is sunny and 50 degrees. It sure doesn't seem like the middle of May. I think it was probably just a coincidence that I had a massage right before I got the rash.

Valerie-I'm glad you were able to get your iPhone issue resolved. I looked up the cost of a shingles vaccine and it looks like $200-$300 without insurance. It would be worth it not to have to deal with this again. I don't think I want to wait 7 years to get the vaccine. I will check to see if my insurance will cover it even though I'm not 60. Maybe with a doctor statement they would at least cover some of it.

Lori-I hope Chester is better today.

Hi to Lynda, Josie, & Diane Sue,

Judy

Deb, it might be an insurance issue too although I think most insurance would advocate for vaccinations, since they are all about costs, money and the bottom line. and anything that prevents costly illnesses, they would pay for. I know the clinic I go to has a "check box" list of things they want you to get, vaccines, screenings, regular exams, and if the box is not checked off , it shows up in big print as a reminder. my doc runs thru the list each visit to be sure. vaccinations are at the top of their "reminder" list. there are a few people who have to skip vaccines because of allergy to ingredients.
since I'd had shingles so young, about 25, I had to ask if it was recommended and it was.
more later.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both ICE Sweat workouts (46 min.).

Judy, so great that you are feeling better. Maybe it's because my husband doesn't take that large a dose of Acyclovir that he does not have any side effects. It's also a seasonal thing for him--when he is in a lot of sun haying he gets fever blisters. Given the fact that you have already had shingles, maybe the vaccination will be available at your earlier age. Usually people get the shingles after age 60, and I do remember that I had to sign some sort of release because in rare instances there are adverse effects to the vaccination.

Deb, now I know what workout I will do tomorrow--Fit and Firm Live. Looks good. Thanks for the positive review.

Boy, spring is really having a hard time getting going here. It's in the 40s and blustery. I keep thinking of Shakespeare's lines:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and temperate
ROUGH WINDS DO SHAKE THE DARLING BUDS OF MAY
AND SUMMER'S LEASE HATH ALL TOO SHORT A DATE.

Shortest summer on record was Saturday.

Lori, how is Chester doing??

We have decided to put Chester to sleep today. Our appt is at 4pm to allow Nicholas time to come here and say his goodbyes. He clearly is in a lot of pain and can only stand (if he is even able to get up) for a seconds before he collapses. We are heartbroken but we know it is the right decision.

Oh Lori....my heart goes out to you, Bob and Nicholas...Chester has such a wonderful family and he will now be in a place where all dogs are healthy, running, and free from pain..((HUGS))

Today I did Ice Bootcamp pre-mix #5 bootcamp, blizzard blast, and abs #1, 67 minutes, 334 calories. I modified a bit on some of the cardio because my knee is just not feeling right. I got a big cramp behind my knee when doing the superman move with the swimming arms. I had to stop and get up. I did some of the impact but not much. The one arm burpee was easier on the step but I was rather slow at it. I used the rebounder when they were doing some of the jumps. Fortunately there are not a lot and the cardio segments are short. I used Cathe's weights or slightly more. I forget how busy having children in the house and all of the running can keep a person :) I enjoy the grandchildren though. Just not much extra time. Every evening it is games and story time after dinner for the 5 year old. He didn't have school today and I had to get his sister 15 to school early to make up a lab since she was gone helping with special Olympics. I think I could use a long nap :)
I am so behind here in just a couple of days.

When I talked to my daughter about shingles she said it was not uncommon for guillian barre to become a part of it. Yes, sometimes they paralysis is temporary. My daughter in law had guillian barre once and her mouth was crooked and her eye was off for awhile but it went away. I am not sure what caused it for her.

Valerie, I haven't had to pay for most of my immunizations. I even went and got updated on all immunizations thinking I might meet my husband in another country. He went to Thailand and Vietnam with some of his travels when he had a break. I was surprised when they didn't charge for the hepatitis series. Those are pretty expensive. It seems that they have let up recommending things very much anymore for me. Just the yearly mammogram and now much longer for the pneumonia shot. I would pay for the flu shot if I had to. My husband is always getting it and I do not like being that sick.

Deb, I did Fit and Firm and like that one too. I did some planting and work this weekend between other things. I finally planted some tomato plants and peppers. I bought some petunias. I have a lot of potted flowers. My daughter says she is jealous of my hydrangea and roses. I put some morning glories in a pot and sat them on the brick wall by the rot iron gate to our walkway. I am not sure how that will work . I was sort of hoping they would vine down the wall although they do tend to climb. I may be moving it. Or getting rid of it since I already have a trellis of with some in back and a whole planter in front that is crazy to keep under control when the vines climb out. They were already there when we moved here.

Lori, I am so sorry that you had to make that decision. I know how hard it is. It is awful watching our pets in so much pain and knowing they won't get better. My heart goes out to you.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Walk Fit on the treadmill....40 minutes.

Lori, thinking about you. You did the right thing, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Judy, I agree with Lynda, if you have had shingles, I would think that would be an exception to the age rule for the vaccine.

Valerie, I will ask about the vaccine next time I go to the DR.. they are right on top of all procedures, mammo, colonoscopy etc., not sure why they don't bring this one up.

Lynda, this has been the worst spring in a long time. Some people even had flurries on Saturday around here....that and a 5 minute hail storm...in the village right next to me.

Diane Sue, we keep brining in a pot of basil that we bought because it is so cold at night...no way I would put any flowers out there yet. I have 2 hanging baskets that I am keeping an eye on...

Hi to Josie,

A workout, then going to the airport with Kylee...it's been a while since I did one of those visits.. Dinner with a friend from work later....

Take care,

Thank you all for your kind words and support. It means so much. Bob and I are having a tough time. Waking up this morning and not hearing his thump thump thump of his tailed crushed us. This is so hard. :(

Going to try and get a workout in. Thinking this will make be feel better. SB extened her Spring Challenge one more week until her Summer Challenge begins next week. Going to stick with these so I do not need to think about a workout. Just do what ever she says.
