Morning Deb... How lucky you were able to get assistance and your computer replaced/repaired on a sunday! of course, how UNFORTUNATE that it crashed so early on. that sounded like such a fun trip with the doggies both performing well.

one night we visited our cousin who is getting started on streaming to cut his cable bill. he is an apple user so not exactly what we will be doing since DH is against switching operating systems. but I finally have gotten a little traction. I think right now it's most likely we will get an amazon Fire and work from there.
Judy or Lori, if we get that box plus an HDMI cable to hook to our TV, do we need an additional device like a tablet or laptop to run Fire ? I've read the material and it isn't clear. cousin was using an ipad to run things plus the remote from his appleTV box.
ETA it will be so nice to switch to streaming... if it works. cousin is able to get local news programs which has been the big hold up on our end. it is so annoying to shell out $$$ monthly for basic cable when we watch so little but no way can we get local news with an antenna. a dish won't work either as we don't have clear skies toward the direction we'd need to point it.
it's not clear to me what part amazon Prime plays ... not clear if it's a separate $99 but I expect it would not be included if the Fire set up is $99, but I would like to get that going at the same time. would be nice to get packages in reliable time after ordering. supersaver shipping varies all over the map!

also got in Flex train and some serious garden time.

Hi Ladies,

Had a wonderful weekend. No more long rides for me until the actual ride, it is tapering time:)
I will continue doing my spinning and body pump classes. I have to start figuring out my outfits for each day and gathering my toiletries. We are allowed a large bag that has to weigh 70 pounds and we have to fit our sleeping bag and bed mat in it. I should call my dad and have him pack my bag ;). He is a packing expert.

I will be back later.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:16) and yesterday I did Flextrain (56:36).

Deb, how great Kylee did! I bet you were a proud mama. Nothing worse than a computer crash, but it sounds as though it was fixed pretty quickly.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon on the phone with my sons. It was great to catch up with them. Went out to dinner last night and had a lovely Arctic char entrée. Really nicely done, with fresh spring veggies--ramps and fiddlehead ferns. It was so beautiful yesterday, and today I was sorely tempted to start planting annuals. Not a good idea around here. If I did plant anything, we would be sure to get a frost.

Lori, I hope your brother's surgery solved the problem and he is now feeling better. Did you ever treat yourself to a pedicure?

Valerie, good luck on the streaming!

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good afternoon ladies!

I am off today and enjoying the beautiful weather. I did my workout blender heavy bag workout which is a combination of 1st two sections of rockout, bonus rockout heavy bag and cardio kicks punching drills. It's exactly 64 minutes long and I am a sweaty mess at the end. I do this entire workout using the heavy bag and I think this is my all time favorite workout. I feel so energized when I am done. Chester and I went for a nice walk. About 2 miles. This is pretty much all he can do since his ankle started bothering him. No more long walks for him. He did get to go for 2 swims so I think he is ok with the shorter walks! :)

Deb congratulations with the Show! Crazy about that dog running around. Must have been kind of comical. Didn't you just have computer problems not to long ago? I seemed to remember this. Glad it is all fixed and up and running.

Lynda...no pedicure. Ending up finishing setting up the patio. Took a shower and was about to go and DS and his girlfriend surprised me with a visit. Pedicure could wait! Brother is doing well. Came home yesterday. Needed to get his temp to normal before they would let him go which makes sense. Hoping this surgery took care of things and once again he is on his way to recovery.

Valerie...I do not know much about Fire as this is a fairly new product. I did look it up and it looks like you will be able to stream numerous applications, amazon and netflix among many. There maybe some applications that are not listed that you may need a separate device..for instance Cathe's live classes. She uses Ustream which is not one of the Fire's application. I am sure they will continually add new apps as time goes on but for the most part if I did not have an Ipad or a smart TV I probably would buy the Fire because it does offer a lot. You do need an HDMI cable and Hi speed internet to stream and that should be it. Oh...you will still need to pay $99 for Prime. Perhaps they will offer a trial period so you can try it out.

Judy...funny that you need to select your outfits. I totally get it though it just sounds funny. I also know what you mean how some people are great packers. I am not one of those people.

Judy...how are your workouts coming along? Was thinking of your FIL recently. No reason he just came to mind over the weekend.

Yes, fire is brand new. we have high speed internet and a wireless router. the TV is not a smart TV but does have 2 HDMI ports. we need the cable. I would very much like to go with Prime since we would have access to more streaming stuff, but mostly we would be able to be reasonably sure when things will arrive when we order. we use supersaver most of the time since usually it's not time critical, things like vacuum cleaner bags! they usually gives a window 7-10 days but with us taking a lot of short trips, I don't like things sitting on the porch or stuffed in our mail box and I want to minimize asking neighbors to pick up things for us. I'm not thinking at his time about streaming Cathe... mostly want to get this set up so we can see if it will work for us.
Lori that sounds like a heck of a workout. wow.

Josie, DH and I are backpackers so we have very lightweight compact gear for sleeping bags/ and pad. [I'd want fresh shorts/shirt every day. don't like to take chances with getting infections by re-wearing bike shorts though sometimes I wear a minimal chamois and then lightly padded undies besides and then don't need as many pairs of shorts. I'd imagine you need to plan for a range of weather conditions.

Lynda, we finished planting our garden yesterday. finally it stopped raining. I even put in warm weather crops, first planting. I replant things like green beans several times to stagger the harvest.

we have a good weather week coming up. DH and I are heading out for a short trip to do some riding ...back in a couple days.

Actually, I brought the computer in to Best Buy yesterday when we got back from Ohio. They tested it and called to tell me that the hard drive crashed and I need a new one. They are getting it fro HP and will install it and hopefully be able to recover all my files from the old one. I wish they had fixed it this fast. I am using my i:pad right now but i doesn't have all my dog club training forms etc for the classes.

Lori and Valerie,

I have 7 pairs of padded nickers, I dont care for the shorts they cut my circulation. The last thing I want to do on the ride is wash clothes they would not dry in time for the next day. I pack each outfit in a two gallon ziplock bag along with socks, gloves, vitamins, VIA instant coffee because the camp coffee is not very good :). I number my bags day 1-7 and at the end of the day I put my dirty clothes in that days bag, I also put a bounce sheet in each bag to keep it fresh :).

Last time my DD and I did ALC, we used one bag for the camping stuff and the other for the clothing and toiletries. This time I'm on my own :(

Josie

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did STS Squat Rack Legs. I used the weighted vest and a 35 lb barbell for most of it. It's gotten warmer here and our air conditioning is broken so I really worked up a sweat doing this one!

We spent the weekend cleaning up FIL's house and also spending time with him in his new home. He is about the same. His cognition and memory are getting worse. He doesn't really know where he is. He does know DH, SIL, and me but that's about it. It makes me sad to see him this way:(
FIL was an engineer. He worked at Philco (before Ford bought them out, then he went to work at Ford as a telecommunications engineer) in the 60's and 70's designing televisions. DH told me that when he and SIL were kids, their dad told them that someday televisions would be very thin and people would hang them on walls...all the posts about streaming and tvs reminded me of that :)

Josie-enjoy your taper! It sounds like you are really prepared for the ride!
Good luck!

Valerie-I don't know that much about the Fire, but it looks like a nice set up.
I've been very happy with Amazon Prime and with streaming on the PC but hadn't thought about using it to stream to a TV. Sounds like it will work well for that!

Lori-I've been trying to keep up with my workouts but haven't been doing as much as I'd like. I was able to get 2 workouts in yesterday though. I did a spinning workout in the morning then I went to the gym with DH last night and did back & triceps. Tomorrow I will do a Spinerval and hopefully a core workout.

Hi to Deb & Lynda!

Judy

Good morning,

The site was down this morning so I didn't get a chance to post earlier. Will check back later,

Take care

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Ch, Ba, Sh from XTrain (51:16).

Max is on heavy chicken guard duty. DH has already lost 5 chickens to hawks. He just moved them into the pasture for free-range roving. Very frustrating.

Lori, that sounds like a killer of a workout. The bag must really up the ante on all of the kickboxing punches. That's good news about your brother. He probably had been fighting an infection of some kind if his fever spiked.

Judy, I'm sure it must be very hard to watch your FIL fading. I had a colleague who was a brilliant and witty man, but was hit with Alzheimer's at the age of 59. We were all crying when he told us what was happening at a dept. meeting. Over the next few years, we watched him disappear, and he did not go gently. He became very angry, perhaps because at some level of consciousness he knew what was happening. He lashed out at anyone who would visit him, but most of all his wife. Terrible!

Josie, it sounds like you have worked out a great system for packing. I heard that it was very hot in LA today. I hope when June rolls around the weather will be more forgiving in CA for your ride.

Hi to Deb and Valerie!

Good evening ladies!

No workout today...tossed and turned last night.

Josie...great idea with the bags. That certainly keeps things organized.

Lynda...yes using the bag really intensifies things. I love heavy bag workouts. It is a total body workout. You work everything! Can't do back to back workouts as I feel I need to rest the arms a day or two afterwards. Hopefully Max will scare off those hawks. So much for the nice warm weather!

Deb...I tried to sign on early this morning too and could not get on but remembered they said they were doing maintenance.

Judy...I have the squat rack dvds and have done a couple of them. Been thinking about doing STS again. Not sure if I will do Meso 1. I may just start with Meso 2 and do each week for 2 weeks instead of 1 week. Meso 1 was ok I just LOVED 2 & 3. I wish she would come out with a STS 2 but with shorter workouts (45 mins would be perfect).

Valerie...I think the Fire would work nicely for you. I don't blame you for not wanting packages left on the porch. Nothing like advertising you are away!

Good morning,

Still waiting to hear about my computer. Keeping my fingers crossed that they are ble to recover all the files from the old hard drive. I also have to reload all programs etcc, Ugh.

Valerie, John has a Kindle Fire and likes it a lot. He hs not done anything on it like streaming so I can't tell you anything about how it would be for that. AQs for signing up for Amazon Prime, for me, it is well worth it. I get a lot of things from Amazon, and 99% of them are free shipping. Also, I have watched a number of seasons of great shows that I never would have without Prime. We gave up cable TV all together so we are saving there so that in itself pays for the Prime membership.

Judy, I feel for you and your DH with your FIL's situation. It is so sad. He is safe now and at least will not be doing somthing that will put him in danger.

Josie, you are so organized! That idea of putting each days clothing in a bagg then using them to store the worn clothes is a great one. The people that run the ride have to be right on top of everything as well to be able to move everyone's stuff from point to point each day. How do they get the belongings back to each person for the night?

Lynda, how are your leg/vein procedures going?

Lori, I agree with you on STS. I like Meso 2 & 3, but not Meso 1 that much. I would love a new STS with shorter workouts. It seems like that is the trend right now.

Hi Ladies,

Went spinning yesterday instead of body pump because I babysat my DF'S two year old.
She is adorable and well behaved. We watched Frozen and played hide and seek and we also danced :). I will be spinning again today and will make up my body pimp class on Saturday. It is supposed to go up to 101 degrees today and cooling centers are being set up through LA.

Deb, ALC is like a moving city. My tent mate and I are assigned a number which we wear as dog tags and we get a set to attach to our bags and tent. The numbers also include a letter which is the assigned truck that carries all of our belongings.

Garance, the weather during the last two rides has been fine except for day 2 of my last ride. We got rained out and they stopped the ride when I had reached mile 40. There is a little town that we stop for lunch on day 3 called Bristol and it is usually hot there. The town has opened their arms to us since the beginning of ALC. Other places did not want us to go by because of the stigma and they would throw things at people riding by. The people in Bristol and their school which is the only school there teaches K-12 set up a BBQ and the kids make buttons for sale and other cute things to sell to us, the money they collect from us pays for their sports and art program for the whole year. ALC provides us with lunch, but we all choose to help the town.

Judy, my MIL is in the late stages of Alzheimer's and does not recognize any of. It has been very sad to see her deteriorate as time goes by.

Hi to Valerie and Lori!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit and Core 1 (49:22).

Deb, I might actually be done with vein closures and sclerotherapy. I have a checkup on June 5, but my legs look great, and it is so nice since they are bare and I'm wearing sandals. I agree with you on Amazon Prime. I absolutely loved watching Veronica Mars and Orphan Black at no charge and I am thinking of watching the West Wing because I never had time to watch it when it was on TV. By the way, you can buy episodes of Fargo, which is really good and tonally, very similar to the movie. The Coen bros. gave the series their blessing.

Josie, have you heard of a play called the Normal Heart? It's about the AIDS crisis in NYC in the early 80s and how difficult it was to get any kind of governmental humane response. HBO is doing the play with Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, and Matt Bomer some time this month. What made me think of it was, yes, your mention of being stigmatized by some towns. Awful!

Lori, I don't think shorter workouts for STS meso 3 would work. She makes a big deal about the time intervals when lifting super heavy. Maybe if you only did one body part--45 minutes of chest, or back, or biceps, etc.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did ruthless fast slow burn circuits then core and flex (without the flex though!). Tonight I tried out 3 of the 10 minute solutions butt lift. It was a decent 30 minute workout. I needed something not so taxing and this seemed to be calling me.

Josie...that is terrible about that town. This always amazing me that stuff like that happens. Glad Bristol embraces you all.

Lynda...You are right about the length of meso 3. Now that I think of it she does talk of the time needed. Oh well. I love them but sometimes they feel like they go on forever. So nice to hear that your legs look nice. I do not have a vein problem and hope I never do. I have a friend that does and she never wears shorts. I always feel so bad for her in the summer. My husband loved the West Wing. When he first got his Ipad he would stream from net flix episode after episode. There were times I would tell him he is stuck in stupid which would be my cue that enough is enough already! Of course I would be just having fun with him. But he would get the hint. ;)

Deb...when do the new Kelly workouts come out? I think any day now but now sure. I did not buy both. Only bought the Lift one. Looking forward to it!

Judy...it is so difficult to watch a loved one in that situation. We went through this with my maternal grandmother. She was living with us for a time when finally my mom had to make the difficult decision to place her in a nursing home. She was not happy about this but we knew it was the right decision. At times she did not know who we were and kept wandering off. Once she wandered with our dog to her old neighbor miles away and went to the house she lived in 40 years prior thinking she still lived there. Our dog stayed with her the entire time and the current home owners called the police because this old lady with a dog was banging on their door! The police knew her at this point due to other wanderings and brought her and our dog home.

Hi to Valerie!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did an indoor ride for an hour and 20 minutes. This morning I did Stretch Max, Medicine Ball Abs, and Core Max 1. Tomorrow I don't think I'll be doing Cathe Live. She is doing Step HIIT, which sounds like fun but I'm not sure how I would do with it. Maybe I will ride my spin bike while watching the workout, then try doing it another time.

Lynda-that is too bad about the chickens! I hope that doesn't happen again.
That is sad about your colleague too. Terrible disease!

Lori-I agree with you on the length of STS. For me, 45 minutes would be perfect.
That is so sad about your grandmother :( What a good dog to stay with her like that!

Josie-I hate to hear that some people do not welcome your group. I can't believe there are people throwing things at you :(
Sad about your MIL too, such a hard situation. I know it will be very hard on DH and SIL when FIL no longer recognizes them.

Deb-yes, we are so relieved that FIL is safe. I don't think any of us realized how stressful it was when he was home alone, always worrying that something bad was going to happen.

Hi to Valerie!

Judy

Good morning,

I picked up my computer yesterday, and now am struggling with finding files, and trying to get my version of Microsoft Office back on. I got a discounted copy from a Perks program we have at work last year, but now they are saying it is no longer offered so I cannot purchase it again. I wrote to the division of Microsoft that runs these programs (pleading) asking them to send me the original link that they had sent with the download, giving them my sad story of my computer crashing. ( our Life Cares person gave me the info to include with my plead). We'll see. What a pain.

Josie, that whole organization that does the ride is amazing!

Lynda, I feel the same about Prime. Loved Doc Marten and now The Good Wife. I really don't want to pay per episode for Fargo, maybe next season they will have Season 1 for free.

Lori, I posted on KCM last week I think, and she replied that she has all the envelopes addressed and just waiting for the DVD's to be inserted in.....all she needs is the finished DVD's. It could be any day now. So sad about your grandmother...I always wonder why some people have this happen and others live to their 90's with all their mental ability...what makes the difference? Is it food, toxins? etc?

Hi to Judy, and Valerie,

Work, home to work on the computer...ugh...

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Barre 3 (37 min.), and last night took Max for a 3 mile walk.

Deb, that must be very frustrating. I feel very lucky to have the college's whole IT staff on call if I have any problems. I think there is a genetic link with Alzheimer's--or at least they are now talking about a test you can take to find out if you will get it. The question is, Do you really want to know? My mom was very sharp into her 90s--incredible memory. She also loved to play card games where you keep count and crossword puzzles.

Lori, I've lost my lovin' feeling for STS and sold it after tendonitis in my shoulder last year. I am glad I sold it and don't miss it. I've developed an allergy to any barbell move where I have to flip it on to my shoulders--I think that's what did it on my shoulder.

Judy, Max has been very good the last two days on chicken patrol. DH has a second group of 100 chicks in the brooder now, and 90 free rangers out in the pasture (these are the ones Max guards). He has a little peep hole in the brooder to look in on the chicks, because they are so skittish when you go in to watch them. But they are mesmerizing to watch.
