Cathlete
Good morning,

Today I did KCM's new TLC workout, the Conditioning one. it was good, but only burned 210 calories in 36 minutes. I think next time I will try it with Cathe's weighted gloves, half pound in each glove. I really like that she has the modifier, makes is so much better for those of us that do not like any impact.

Agility class was fun yesterday, then shopping and lunch with my cousin. Then DH & I went to a wonderful Chinese restaurant. Everything was good until I realized that I had eaten so much bad food, that my stomach was a mess. Serves me right.

Starting over today, had oatmeal with almond milk, unsweetened applesauce and some walnuts this morning, after working out and having my supplements with a protein shake. I really, really need to get back on track.

I pre-ordered the new Cathe DVD's, did the Deluxe package, even though I do not plan on getting a spin bike, or anything like that, but it was only $10 more, and you got free shipping. I can always sell the one DVD on Ebay or Amazon.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did P-57, vol. 2 (57 min.). The abs on this one is really, really hard.

Deb, I ordered the deluxe package as well because of the free shipping. I wonder how many of those spin dvds will end up on ebay. I use the gloves on TLC as well--a pound in each. I agree--I sometimes, not always, follow Lauren.

Sheesh, didn't anyone look at that link on pigs? It's very funny, and also true. Pigs (boars, anyway) really do have 30 min. orgasms. Not sure that's all that great for sows!

My weekend is grading, so it ain't all that great. Some of the papers in this set are less than inspiring. Today is beautiful outside. Finally some blooming forsythia, trees. Things were up and growing much earlier last year if I remember correctly.

Back to my papers here.

Good morning all,

I did a Cardio Coach this morning, not too hard, only burned 190 calories. I need to up my game with these.

Garance, I really liked the Conditioning workout. I have not tried the kickbox one yet, maybe Wednesday. Going to do the upper body or lower tomorrow, not sure which yet. It depends on how my legs feel after today. I did read that PIG link, it was cute. Is this your last semester working?

Hi to Valerie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did both TLC workouts (60 min.).

Deb, the boxing workout has no kicks in it at all. It's all punches. I like it with my weighted gloves. The conditioning workout is pretty good--not very creative, though. Just a lot of repeated movements.

Nope, I have a paid leave in the fall, and then I teach one more spring semester of 2012.
Sounds like you are more than ready to retire yourself.

Sigh--more paper-grading this afternoon. Just plugging away at them.

Hi Ladies,

I did not do much during the weekend. I did lay out in the back yard and got a nice tan.
I did the BHIP workout today which consisted of 15 pull ups with rings and one lap on the track for as many sets we could in 20 minutes. The warm up usually takes 15 minutes.

I will do the following workout when I get home, because I did not feel like I did enough at lunch:
8 sets of the following:
5 push ups
10 sit ups on the abmat
15 squats.

Well, time for me to go home. Have a nice evening everyone!

Josie

Good morning all,

This morning I did the lower body blast from the new KCM workouts. Oh boy, I don't think I will be able to walk tomorrow. She does some creative things with that band. I was kind of puzzled though, because with the warm up and cool down the workout was only 28 minutes. Strange. Anyway, it had a lot of new and different moves that I liked a lot.

Still raining here, off and on. This has been the strangest spring ever.

Garance, I kind of liked the conditioning workout, very straight forward, and it really got my core in a good way. I am more than ready to retire. I would do it even sooner, but the health care costs are going to be astronomical. I carry health care for both DH and me, so when I retire, we will be paying a ton of money.

Josie, those workouts sound exhausting! What does BHIP stand for?

I guess Valerie is out of town, and Joan is still sleeping after tax season.

Take care,

Hi Deb and Josie--

This morning I did both the upper and lower body splits on KCM (60 min.).

Deb, the upper body split with the warm-up is about 35 min. and it looks like she just continues the lower body workout because the equipment set up is identical to the upper body, so maybe she is just shooting for a solid hour. I like both of these workouts, but wish she would go just a little slower on the upper body. I know I could go as heavy as she does if she left a little time for recovery between sets. Yes, I will have to think about medigap coverage when I turn 65 in November and go on Medicare. Makes me want to move to Canada when I think of our health care insurance companies here. Crooks!

Wow Josie, I multiplied all of those moves by 8, and that is a lot of reps. 120 squats?? Yikes!

Starting Macbeth this afternoon--the final play. Lots of end-of-year stuff. Must go to the readings by the poetry and fiction winners this afternoon, then to honors presentations after dinner.

Good evening,

Back from vacation last night. Dh went from Las Vegas to San Francisco and I came home.

My brother heard from one of his job applications that he will probably be hired. I hope I can find someone else to stay with dm or no more vacations for me.

I worked in the garden most of the afternoon and tomorrow will be mowing. (If it doesn't rain.)

...nuff' said.

Garance, yes, if I had to be critical at all about the KCM workouts its that she does not stop for anything, so to drink water, which I really have to do, I have to pause all the time. I get what she says, since it's only 30 minutes , she doesn't want to spend time on breaks. I didn't think the upper body was too fast, maybe a little faster than her others, but nothing like Cathe's Pyramid workouts! Canada's heath care is nothing to write home about, how would you like to wait a year for surgery that you need right now to stay alive? Most of them come down here ( we are right at the border) to get surgery done.

Joan, welcome back! How is your Mom doing?

Hi to Josie, the vacationing Valerie, and Cathy,

Time to go to

Hi Deb, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Dancetonic (60 min.).

Welcome back, Joan! Did you have some fun in Vegas?

Oh, I've never heard that about Canada's healthcare. I have friends at the University in Toronto and they wouldn't trade their healthcare for our's for anything. Of course, they are still pretty young and healthy. I guess I am disillusioned watching my fil--tons of specialists with multiple tests, diagnoses, prescriptions, and all he really needed was a neti pot for a stubborn sinus infection. Absolutely zany, scary for him, and very expensive. He has a Medicare Advantage policy, of course, but taxpayers are paying for all of those tests, because we subsidize those policies. I agree with you on the Pyramids, especially the upper body one.

Student presentations again this afternoon, then more honors presentations tonight. Phew! I sure hope they are good, because it's a sleepy kind of day--grey and rain.

Good morning,

I did the upper body split from KCM's Split sessions this morning.

Garance, this one doesn't seem so fast anymore, I guess when you know what to expect it gets better. I like that I can do the whole workout with 2 sets of dumbells. So simple. Nothing to record, no one rep max calcs etc.

It's supposed to be sunny and around 60 today. Let's see if that happens.

Another litter of puppies born Monday, 3 boys and 1 girl, and of course, they will probably keep the girl so nothing there for us. It may be time to switch breeds.

Off for more coffee and to get ready for work, take care.

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Squeeze (56 min.).

I agree with you totally, Deb, on equipment. The less, the better. I start off with 15s, but gradually descend to 8s, so I need 4 sets of dumbbells for KCM.

Yesterday and today have been wretchedly cold for May--never manages to get out of the 40s, and yesterday was a steady rain. Today just drizzle and windy. I guess it's acceptable if you must be in a classroom all afternoon, which was true yesterday.

My older son sent me a spafinder gift certificate for Mother's Day. Now all I have to do is find a spa! Younger son will be showing up this weekend.

Still working on paper grading. I will be so happy when I am done with this set.

Back from our short 3 day vacation. Did some birdwatching, hiking, and a little biking. most of the areas weren't open to biking so we walked it instead. really hard to figure out what agency oversees some of the lands and who's responsible. no bicycles allowed but jeeps and atvs allowed during hunting season... go figure. pretty decent weather although windy but mostly semi sunny, at least not raining. activity balanced out the food which was really pretty modest.

FIL passed quietly very early wed am. It was expected and a relief to everyone that it's finally over. the last couple weeks were hard on everyone there and he hasn't been conscious for quite a while. we are going to try to figure out how to get there for the funeral. not many flights so next week early morning and late night ....will be very tough.

My understanding is sometimes people have to wait a little in canada especially for some procedures, but everyone is included and no one has to fear bankruptcy if they are unlucky enough to get an "expensive" illness. I don't have any personal experience with the system. ours works good if you have insurance and money but not so great if you don't, and end up getting care basic health care in the ER. I wish our system was more inclusive especially for basic care.
yes, Joan, how was Vegas?
Josie, that is a simple but tough sounding workout. how many days a week do you do it?

Deb, another kind of dog might be a nice change. there are so many to pick from.

forgot to ask, Deb..do you like the almond milk? I used regular nonfat milk while we were on our trip and this morning the almond milk for less calories seemed positively decadent! I like the sweetened vanilla but use plain oats.

all puppies are so darn cute it must be hard to decide. I'm not a fan of the little purse dogs that seem so popular lately but otherwise I like'em all!

Vegas was great. I saw lots of shows and got 12 1099"s I just wish I had been able to keep my winnings.

Dh got home about 1 or 2am. He left LV for business (and so he wouldn't have to pay for return flight) I stayed up to wait for him so of couse dil calls early this morning to have me babysit. Luke was sick. I was so tired after they left I fell asleep at 5pm and when I woke at 7pm I thought it was morning. It took me awhile to figure out what day it was.

I did walk for 2 miles but haven't felt like doing much else. I need to get to grocery store.

Joan

Good morning all,

Crappy nights sleep again. It took a while to go to sleep, then woke up at 3:30 and could not get back to sleep. I am a zombie right now.

Valerie, sorry about your FIL but you are right, it was time and at least it was peaceful. I wanted the puppy for the summer but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Garance, we have the same weather here, horrible. The spa gift is so nice! I like facials, but would probably do a pedi and manicure. What do you think you will get with it?

Valerie, I do like the almond milk, but I get the unsweetened. The other was way too sweet for me and I am trying to eliminate sugar.

Joan, does that mean you cashed in 12 1099's and then lost all the money?

What is everyone up to this weekend? celbrating Mother's Day?

good morning.. got in bike and treadmill yesterday along with a tough yoga class. I did a proper headstand for the first time with a tiny bit of assistance. instructor had me fold my legs down to a bent position rather than straight vertical which is easier to balance in. I've done them before but this was more comfortable and steady, and done the 'right" way. I LOVE my instructor. she pushes us a bit and her descriptions of where and how to feel things is spot on for me.

we are getting out trip mapped out today. leave tuesday night, return early thursday morning. sleep for a couple hours in there somewhere . apparently MIL spent a bunch of money she can't afford on a lot of pomp... like this is a royal funeral or something. we ( and DH's brother) are getting stuck with a big chunk of it. if she spends all her remaining money on this production, she will have little left to continue living out her life, and she does not appear to be going anywhere soon. I know the relentless 'upselling" that goes on when people are in a grieving, vulnerable state and you need to quickly pick things out but she went way overboard. oh well. I remember going thru this with my father's funeral and if someone ( me) isn't constantly applying the brakes it can get crazy. my mother, sister and sIL were wandering thru the caskets saying things like "oh, he would have loved this one"... and it was the $8000 model when plainer things were clearly what we could afford. we ended up compromising but good grief, never saw such a lapse of common sense. IMO people spend far too much money, usually that they can't afford, on weddings and funerals. off my soapbox now....

Deb, glad you like the almond milk. the sweetening in the milk lets me get away without much other sweetener. only on plain oats though, it's too sweet by itself or on any cereal that tends toward sweet. it's so rich and creamy it makes the oats tolerable.

We are 'on call" this weekend so yard work and maybe a local bike ride if weather is OK. I will call my mother. no other festivities.

I guess I'd do a pedicure, manicure too. or maybe a massage? I've never had one but my facial skin is best left undisturbed so I stay away from facials.

Too funny Joan, I used to work a night shift and that was a common sensation.... I was asleep, it's light outside, but what day is it??? I have no clue what a 1099 is either.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Fat Burning Fusion (46 min.).

Looks like a beautiful day today, and a nice weekend coming up. It went below freezing though last night. One more week of classes, and then the semester is over--except for more grading and meetings.

Valerie, congrats on the headstand! It sounds like you are really enjoying your yoga. Did you see that Cathe has two yoga dvds in her new low impact set? You probably would not want them because you have such a great instructor and class. Sorry about your fil, but also it sounds like you are relieved to see the peaceful end to a long illness.

Ditto, Joan, on a 1099--what is it?

Deb, I'm not sure on what to get with my spafinder gift card. I still haven't used the gift card I received for the local Clip Shop and keep thinking I should get a pedicure, since I have never had one. I was saving it for summer sandals, so pretty soon. I think the nearest place for the spafinder card is Cranwell Resort in Lenox, about an hour away.

Hoping for a nice weekend with dh and younger son.

The casino has to give you a 1099 (tax form) if you win over $1200. I won the first half of the week and lost the rest of the week. At least I won first so I had something to lose.
