Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/5

Valerie--that is definitely worth a try! I managed to get through the first dose but I am worried about the 4 am and I do have a lime.

Biting the lime didn't make it into a "margarita" ?? but ihelped. Golytely had a kind of fishy, musty, awful smell and getting the fresh lime on my lips and teeth somehow helped clear that somewhat. didn't make it good.... but better. I remember Katie Couric do this when she did her TV cspy for the today show and had to drink "the Stuff" so I had a lime handy and it helped.

Good morning,

Still raining here, but it's supposed to go up to 59 today, so that is an improvement.

Valerie, wow, your procedure really takes a toll on you. I am a little "out of it" when I wake up from it, but just get up, get dressed and go out to eat! Biting into a lime...never thought to do that but it makes sense. Great that the tub is done, but too bad about the bug. It seems like there is a force out there that doesn't want you to get this job finished!

Lynda, good luck today.

Lori, good to hear that there is no joint, issue with your shoulders. Hopefully the rest will help and there is no rotator cuff issue. You can still do barre and the treadmill, and walking Chester!

Did anyone read about why this coming season for Downton will be the last one? He has such a tremendous following and it's the most watched show on PBS in it's history, not sure why he decided not to continue.

Hi to Josie & Judy,

Still quilting, ran into a snag (no pun intended!) yesterday, that set me back a bit...

Take care,

yes, they are hard for me. It takes me out of everything for 48 hours, including much of the clear liquids day and the procedure day. I can't tell you how happy I was to know I am good for 10 years.

Lynda, hope it all went well.

I had read Maggie smith didn't want to continue beyond a certain point but not sure if she continued thru season 6 or not. Best to quit while still strong rather than sliding downhill over a few extra seasons.

watched Gone Girl last night. so-so. nobody to like at all in it, and it all seemed phony & a little silly to me. I'd call it watchable but not a repeater.

Hi Ladies,

No workout yesterday, I needed a day to recuperate from the peanuts ;). My trainer is sick, so I plan to go to the gym and take the body pump class.

Garance, hope that everything turns out ok. I don't need one until I turn 60.

Lori, it's a good thing that you took care of your shoulders before it got worst.

Deb, I'm with you on not knowing what day it is, but love being retired :).

Valerie, thanks for the movie review. I was planning on watching it, but I was on the fence about it.

Hi t Judy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Out by 9:30 this morning. No polyps--yay. I never sleep during this procedure, despite the medication. Valerie, the lime really helped this morning. I told the nurse and doctor this because it's such a good idea. I still will be reminded in 5 years because of family history. I feel liberated.

Sorry you didn't like Gone Girl. I thought it was one of the best films this year and a very good novel-to-screen adaptation. I like femmes fatale and you must admit, she had (and still has) him by the short hairs. On the other hand, I don't think I would watch it again either. I might watch Birdman again, for the acting and cinematography. (It reminded me of 8 1/2). No likeable characters in this film either.

Lori, I did something to my wrist (in my sleep no less!) and I may have to cut back on weights for awhile too. It almost feels like a sprain or pulled tendon. I hope it goes away quickly.

Deb, I wonder if they can keep going forward historically in DA without killing off some of the older characters. Didn't it start in the Victorian era and now it's the roaring 20s and no one seems to have aged very much.

A sandwich never tasted so good!

Congratulations on procedure completed and no polyps. Is it showing our age because we can get excited about these things? glad the lime helped.... I love lime and it camoflages (spell) a lot of unpleasant things.
Thank Katie Couric for the idea. I admired her for doing that procedure on camera. her first husband died of colon ca. They had me in sort of twilight during my first scoping , but I remember some of it and I remember saying it hurt & squirming, and then they must have upped the drugs cause that's all I remember. the second one I was blotto from the beginning. different doc... he must have read her notes.

Birdman arrived in the mail today so probably on the agenda tonight or tomorrow. I didn't hate Gone Girl.... just didn't like it much. Ben Affleck is good to look at but I don't think he's a very good actor. I liked him best in the Iran embassy/hostage movie ...can't think of the name right now. he always seems the same on screen to me. Yep, she had him trapped all right. Josie you might like it... for a one time movie, it was fine. In contrast, I really connected with Wild and bought the dvd. that was by far my favorite movie this year and it really didn't win much. trying to remember if it won anything at all? I 'm sure Gone Girl was nominated in one or two categories too, but didn't win.

we did a 30 mile ride this morning instead of the hike we'd planned. DH didn't feel like plodding thru new snow. I made an appt for another cortisone shot in about 10 days, sooner if I can pick up a cancellation. not sure if he will want imaging first or if this is the routine course. I'd like to do this in one appt.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a short Spinerval. I increased my intensity a little and felt pretty good but later in the evening my hip started bothering me again. Nothing too terrible, but it's definitely still there. Today was a rest day.

Deb-I ordered one of the new KCM workouts too. I think I ordered the same one that you did. I love her new Core and Abs dvd.

Lori-sorry about your tendonitis. I hope the cortisone helps. I did something minor to my right shoulder, trying to do dips. It hasn't been bad enough for me to do anything about it but since I'm seeing a doctor next week I think I'll mention it to him.

Lynda-That's great that you didn't have any polyps! I didn't sleep during my procedure either, even with the meds. We went out to breakfast afterwards and I was pretty drowsy the rest of the day and evening.

Valerie-When I had my colonoscopy the doctor said I have a redundant colon. I didn't have any pain during the procedure. I'm glad I didn't have to use GoLytely, that sounds horrible :(

Hi to Josie!

Judy

Good evening ladies...

Today at lunch we did the 21 day fix barre workout - no shoulder work! This was one of the add on workouts not included in the package. You needed to pay extra for this one and the Plyo one I believe. We all liked Autum's style so I think we should do well with these workouts.

This was my only workout. I need to really take it easy and no doubles for a few days. Today leaving for work our cars were covered in icy snow! Can you believe that! I let the car warm up for a while but I still needed to scrape some. My shoulders did not like this at all. Right one feels great post shot but left one really does not feel a whole lot better. Hoping it just takes a couple of days to settle in.

Lynda...glad all went well today for you! I will need to keep the lime trick in mind for my next time. So sorry about the wrist. Sometimes sleeping the wrong way can really do you in. Hoping it improves quickly. I liked Gone Girl too. Pethaps because we both read the books.

Deb...I had heard the same thing about Maggie Smith. I'll miss this series.

Valerie...I have only had 1 colonoscopy but remember being very tired the next day. We have not watched Birdman yet. On our list though. Great job on the ride today.

Josie...I am sure a rest day was well worth being with your peanuts! Cathe did. Live workout that some have compared to a body pump class. When I have recuperated I'll look it up.

Hi to Judy!

Good morning & Happy Friday!

Still raining and cold here, I can't believe we are half way through April and no spring yet. :(

Valerie, I hope that Maggie Smith finished season 6, she is so much of the show. Did not see the movie, "Gone Girl" but remember that I liked the book a lot.

Josie, glad you had fun with the Peanuts, even though they wore you out! LOL.

Lynda, glad all turned out well, and you are now done for 5 years. Mine should be coming up soon, I probably should call and see when it is due. I think DA started in 1912. Yes, none of them have aged at all, except for the dog! You must have slept wrong somehow on your wrist or did you do something the day before that you forgot about?

Judy, dips and push ups seem to be bad on the shoulders, at least around here! I hope yours is ok and nothing flares up. I am tempted to get that Core/Ab DVD but am really trying to cut down on buying workouts. I hope Cathe doesn't make any announcements for a while. LOL.

Lori, I believe it about the snow! I can imagine how you felt seeing it though, you have had so much more than anyone else. Maybe you should take a good long break on any upper body work. I didn't get the barre workout from 21 Day Fix, but did get the Plyo one . There is a sales person called Mary over at Total Fitness that is really great. When I ordered the set from here she threw in the Plyo workout which was extra at the time too. A Cathe Body Pump type class would be tempting.

Still quilting. It has been so long that I have forgotten a lot of the tricks and how my machine works. I almost was going to drive 40 miles to the only dealer for my machine to buy a certain presser foot, only to find out when I called to see if they had it in stock that my machine has it built right it! I have used it many times, but it's been so long, I didn't remember.

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb, yes the dog got older. the children aren't growing up very quickly it seems. I just remember reading Maggie smith didn't want to continue much longer but since I'm always behind I try not to read too many details and spoil it for later. more later...going on a mt bike this morning before rain moves in.

Our tub looks just fabulous. this was the right thing to do even though it took a lot of searching for a company to do it and it was an ugly messy process. we are so much happier now that the tub is not pink! it never was that bad and we could sometimes convince ourselves it looked beige, but this is off white now and a vast improvement. it cost $600 but was worth it. .

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

Deb, I think this will be a non-fun weekend. DH is doing his usual last-minute taxes and I intend to do some serious cleanup in the gardens. At least the weather promises to be gentle in the 50s and 60s. It sounds like you are having fun going back to quilting.

Lori, we had sleet and freezing rain yesterday morning too. I can understand why your shoulders might hurt from scraping. I am so ready for GOT and Veep on Sunday night. I will definitely be recording them, because I frequently like to watch GOT twice, and Veep gives me a lot of laughs.

Valerie, I liked Wild too, but I know people who found it confusing because they didn't really 'get' the flashbacks. I wonder if it's another case of reading the book makes you ready for the film. You are thinking of Argo, the title of the film they were supposedly doing in Iran to get out the embassy staff. I really enjoyed that film as well. Sounds like you are at last done with your project. Always gratifying.

Judy, what is a redundant colon? When grading papers, I would frequently use the word to describe someone repeating the same idea over and over again.

Josie, we must have posted at the same time yesterday. Are you enjoying your solitude--peanuts gone, DH on road trip?

Good evening ladies!

Today at lunch we did a lower body barre followed up with a Jessica Smith standing abs 5 minute workout. Was a nice ending. Today us ladies got together and planned our 21 day fix menu and we are staringing on Monday. We all are excited so we will see how this goes.

My right shoulder feels better than yesterday and I am very pleased with this. I am still going to lay off weights until next week to continue to heal then start lightly.

Lynda...I am very excited about GOT. I signed up for 30 day trial of HBO Now just so I can watch it twice too for a few weeks. Once at work then a second time whenever. The cost is 14.99 a month so if the office viewing doesn't stick I may keep it until GOT ends then cancel. I'll never use it after GOT ends.

Deb...the 21DF barre work was tougher than I anticipated. Really enjoyed it. I have heard about Mary's site. I have not purchased from her but would if I needed a dvd. I hear she is really easy to work with. Lately I am into all digital. I have been slowly converting all my dvds to digital format and keeping them on a computer I have hooked to my workout TV. I started about a year ago completely staying away from dips I always modify by doing another tricep workout. Pushups have not bothered me though.

Valerie...I bet the tub looks so nice and $600 is well worth the years of enjoyment you'll receive.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Back again. we did the mt bike this morning .. we rode our standard route but used a single track instead of the road for part of the uphill. it was a little harder but the surface was fairly dry and made for much better riding than the last few times when it was major mud. still some mud but more manageable now.

Yes Argo..... that was driving me crazy but didn't have time to look it up. I can always remember who was in the movie, the storyline, but the title gets forgotten. we watched Birdman last night and both were so- so about it. lots of people behaving badly and some more than a little crazy. I can't imagine a worse place to live than NY. Michael Keaton certainly gave a terrific performance but another "once is enough" movie for me. both DH and I had read Wild before seeing the movie so maybe that did help to follow it.

It's so funny...I keep looking at the tub and marveling at how much better it looks. we've been agonizing over this for so long!

Judy that sounds like it might make scoping a little more difficult. I have to be aggressive about getting a lot of fiber, but otherwise all is OK and I've not had any polyps so I'm happy to go to 10 years.

Deb your quilting sounds like my fairly new sewing machine. easier to use but you need to get familiar with all the new pieces and how they work. mine is "computerized" and it does work nicely but much different than the older simple mechanical one. if it hadn't died, I'd have kept it but too expensive to fix. I need to get out the "big picture" to thread the machine, rewind bobbin etc. just not intuitive and must be done exactly right.

Good morning!

Happy weekend. I just finished making 6 baskets for the auction that the club does at the agility trial. Got rid of a lot of dog stuff that we never used. It felt good getting all those bags out of the closets, off the spare bed etc. Also made up a huge basket of all kinds of yarn that I hope someone that knits or crochets will find useful. I know I will not be using it.

Valerie Yay for the tub being done and turning out well! My sewing machine is at least 15 years old, but does have one of those confusing screens, that you use for various stitch patterns. The store I purchased it at has gone out of business, but I found out that the woman's husband is still doing maintenance on any machine purchased from them if you call him. I think I will get mine in for a complete tuning and clean up. Also may ask his wife if I can pay her for some refresher lessons on how to use it. But you are right, they are very sensitive and one thread out of place will jam up the whole thing.

Lynda, I should probably take advantage of the nice predicted weather tomorrow and do some weeding, or at least clean up some of the beds. Get a head of the weeds.

Lori, when I am ready to convert to digital, I will contact our resident "Tech Queen":)

Judy, a redundant colon does not sound like a nice thing to have..:(

Hi to Josie,

Have a great weekend!

Deb, we stewed about the tub for years. we wanted to remodel but replacing a Jacuzzi tub is very expensive especially since we don't use it much. we were worried the color would still look pink even if all the other pink was out of the room. we'd have to do "something" with the space, and I have no interest in a big expensive soaking tub either. the shower leak forced us, and refinishing was the best option. so it's ending well. tub is perfectly functional and in excellent shape, but we use it maybe a couple times a year.

My old machine was a Viking. it was a basic machine and very simple to use. I don't like sewing and do minimal...repairs, hemming. minor stuff. the new machine does everything but dance. to use it I need to haul out the diagrams, read the directions, take out my contact lenses so I can see close up things. I don't sew for pleasure just when I have to. every little thing requires reading directions... way too many choices.

watched The Imitation Game last night and enjoyed it. More my kind of movie, a clear story to tell. Keira Knightley was especially good, and several actors from Downton in it as well. so funny... usually Netflix has long waits but no waits at all. guess most of these weren't that popular.

Valerie-I bought the Imitation Game on Amazon but haven't watched it yet. I'll have to watch it soon.
