Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/4

Just a quick check in to say hi.

I took off for a half hour this morning to have a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Since I have decided to go all out in weight loss until Oct when I babysit, I wanted a prize. I think I will at least get the fraxel laser on face and hands over the next few months. He has a package of 4 treatments. You have to pay for them all even if you stop. It seems like many people stop because it is painful. I won't schedule the face lift until I have lost all the weight I am going to lose. I'm not really vain but I think impressions count with my clients. I want to work for at least 10-15 more years and I think it's all right to look 50 but not 70.

Joan

yay! i'm glad i remembered your name, so now i can call you lynda. :)

i was totally wiped out yesterday, i think alot of it was the 6 days of tough workouts, this week the w/outs are a bit shorter, so hopefully won't wipe me out so much.
did supercharged sculpting, 40m. sculpt. not terribly hard, but good workout. and this afternoon took the grands to the park. absolutely beautiful today. cool, 70's. sunday is gonna be the hard day. it is a heavy lower body and i'm trying to figure out what to do. if i really want to torture myself , guess i could do butts & gutts. :)

Joan, I've had laser on my face but I don't think it was Fraxel. I have rosacea and was getting more redness and some swelling on my cheeks. Not to mention, rosacea burns, stings and hurts. the meds to treat it are expensive and don't work well. It's idiotic insurance doesn't cover laser but will cover $70/tube creams that for me made it worse.

the laser was 3 or 4 sessions about 3 weeks apart. I used a inexpensive topical anesthetic on my face an hour before each treatment. it wasn't bad at all. stung as the laser flashed. I put on foundation immediately after, finished the grocery shopping, and drove home.
need to skip exercise for a day afterward so that the teeny tiny blood vessels the laser zaps/clots off don't get reopened by vigorous exercise.
after that, normal activity. the improvements continue for several months after. I had it done two years ago and my skin looks fine and normal. not like a 20 year old but the redness and irritation is gone.

It was about $1000 for the series paid upfront. I'm thinking Fraxel is a bigger deal. Mine was done at a dermatology clinic not plastic. I'd do it again in a second if the rosacea becomes a problem again.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Ellen Barrett's Barefoot Cardio (48 min.).

Valerie, good for you on the plyo STS. I just won't do any of it--too hard on my knees. Our weather is back to "normal" after the last two halcyon days of 80s and sun. It's down to 48 and cloudy.

Joan, good luck on the cosmetic procedure! You will have to tell us how painful or not painful it is and the results.

This has been an awful week with tutorials during every spare hour. I have also had a hard time because of a novel I started and just don't want to put down: Katrina Kittle's The Kindness of Strangers. I try to sneak a bit in every time I get a chance.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

My cheeks are talking to me this morning. all that jumping works the butt. I think this last disk was better than the first plyo leg disk. or maybe the first one will always seem worst! legs are good, butt sore but not agony, just know I worked hard yesterday. DH did it this morning and agrees, he'll be sore tomorrow. different from anything we usually do. I'm kind of surprised, I was thinking my knees would complain but no. in fact it doesn't feel hard on my knees.... hope I don't have to eat those words anytime soon. Maybe this is like hiking... people complain about uphill but the part that kills your knees and thighs are long steep downhills.

our weather is looking better.. think we'll do our bike trip. debating between that and skiing since there's a load of new snow and for DH and myself there won't be much more skiing this year. Loads of snow but as the season goes good skiing gets higher, terrain gets steeper, we aren't good enough skiers.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hi Ladies,

I went spinning last night and I'm carbo loading today for tomorrow's ride. I will let you know how it went on Monday.

Garance, I heard the same stories on the news regarding facebook. I keep it to a minimum at to who I let it on my site.

http://bikingtoendaids2.blogspot.com This is the video of the 65 mile ride that I did. You can see me at about the 4:30 mark. I hope that you can see it.

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Hi everyone,

Valerie I also have rosacea redness on cheeks and on outer edges brown discoloration from being out in the sun. I'm glad you mentioned not exercising afterwards I wouldn't have thought of that. It's suppose to take out redness, brown spots and fine wrinkles and put collagen back into the underlayers. Dh doesn't want me to do face lift because he worries about surgery and infection etc. I'll decide later on that. The medicine always seemed to make my rosacea worse also. I thought it was just me.

Josie I couldn't find you on video. The ride looked beautiful.

Back to work.

Joan

Hi Ladies,

Hopefully there will be a video for tomorrows ride and you might be able to see my face.

Josie

Joan, around here dermatology does most of the skin laser work but in different areas of the country, different specialties might "take over" certain areas of care. the place I went the doctor looks at your skin and decides what laser will work best for the condition you have. then a technician does the procedure. I'm not knowledgable about "what" laser is used for what.
I got the topical at the derm office, it was maybe $20 and worth it. I think it's lidocaine? not anything heavy duty but it tones down the sting. I think the "no exercise" for 24 hrs was in the patient info packet and the tech mentioned it to me also. You don't want to undo what they've done.
I brought some foundation with me so I could tone down the immediate redness you get after the procedure. I had some shopping to do after and didn't want to scare anyone. by the next morning I was "normal". the rosacea redness, the little blood vessels, gradually disappear over weeks and months. I don't know if my experience was typical.

anything that causes flushing, abrasive scrubs, anything that exfoliates is , as far as I know, not recommended for rosacea patients. I'm pretty careful about what I use, and it's not a lot.

howdy, today was a kickbox workout. and then, outside work most of the afternoon
have a great weekend!

Saturday

Good morning,

HouseMax today, and Keegan's agility class. One of the pumps of our furnace went out yesterday, so right now we are waiting for the repair service to call. We are lucky that we have 2 zones, one upstairs and one down and it was the downstairs pump that is not working. When I got home from work last night it was 63 degrees downstairs, I knew something was wrong. They are supposd to have someone here between 8 and 10 this morning.

I hope it warms up this weekend, it was about 32 at 7:00 am....:(

Josie, what a great ride! I tried to find you but could not...maybe next time. I forgot to look for the 4:30 mark on the video...I will go back and try again. I like that you are able to take a train back and that they take the bikes back for you. Very organized!

Joan, I got some info from the Derm Dr, I had a raised spot removed from my face and he gave me a lot of info on micro dermabrasion, peels etc. I have been too scared to do it.

Valerei, the DR I went to is a Derm, but he specializes in cosmetic dermatology. What you had done does not sound too bad, and you got good results.

Garance, did you see the mag link?

Cathy, enjoy the weekend, will the grandkids be there?

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

Housemax for me today, and now, more papers to read.

What a come-down in the weather! It's freezing here today. Brrr!

Deb, I did see the magazine link. I will look tomorrow for the April issue.

I am still amazed at P-57. I have doms in my legs again. I never get doms with weighted work for my legs, but almost always with BBL and P-57.

Josie, I saw you, but maybe next time you should get some face time and you can say hi to all of us pentagenarians.

Well, off to read papers for tutorials. Almost done.
