Cathlete
Good morning,

I did a KCM total body workout this morning, I am still sore from the I-train circuit workout I did Friday. My lower back is twinging, not DOMS. I am sure it will just go away.

I have 3 bags of clothes to donate, one is all business stuff that I will send over to an organization here that helps woman who are trying to get jobs that don't have a lot of work type clothes to wear. Hope to get those out today. It felt good cleaning out closets yesterday, now to organize the other 2 dressers.

Off to get something to eat, and start again on the "list"...

Have a good day,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did the STS total body workout (66 min.). I bought this as one of the daily deals. I like it except for some of the abs work--hate those knees in-knees out moves.

Won't be going to Sunday Comfort meal tonight--too many leftovers from making Hunan beef last night. It was really yummy from my Fuchsia Dunlop cookbook.

Deb, I don't make lists, but I know I should. I DO, on the other hand, make "Honey-do" lists for DH! Hah! Actually, he asks me to do this because otherwise he doesn't know what needs to be done around the house and car.

Tomorrow it's back to classes as usual. Othello and moving on to Hughes. I'm going to straighten up my office, which at the moment looks like a hurricane hit it while I was revising my article.

Good morning,

My post saved us from the 2nd page, LOL. This morning I did CC#4. Not all 3 challenges, but I did 2, plus the cool down and stretch. I still am curious as to what happened, and wonder if we will ever find out.

Garance, funny how husbands are different, John would not like a list of "to-do's". He would consider it a form of nagging, I'm sure. He is ok if I ask him to do something, but he is not a list person. I have all kinds of lists. I don't remember the abs in STS Total Body, I do like the weight work in that one though.

Hi to Josie, Joan and Valerie,

Take care,

Hi all... back from vacation. Things did not work out as planned. we had a tire sidewall failure saturday late. we were able to get it switched out at a les schwab that had (almost) closed but the guys were willing to help us when they saw the bulge on the side of the tire. it isn't easy to change a tire on a big truck with a camper on! too late to get a replacement tire. so we hung out at a state park until monday when stores were open and got it replaced but by then it was mid day monday. we decided to go to southern OR instead because it was closer. the weather was not great. even northern CA is still in "winter" weather patterns. the tires are quite new and a sidewall failure is rare, but it really spooked us . also found out the 'spare" tire is a piece of junk.

we got in a little hiking and a little biking but overall not at all what was planned. it rained a lot, and snowed and hailed too. sideways. this was the reason we had planned on driving so far to begin with! the forecasts were correct.

since we've been back I did cyclemax. we hope to mt bike today as it's cold but at least not raining.

lists.... we use lists a lot especially me. I forget things if I don't wrote them down. especially before traveling. I list everything I need to buy, pack or make and check things off as they get done. must have had 100 things on one list, and no way would I get them all of I didn't write it down. trips are different so lists are different otherwise I'd keep a master list.

I need to look at last weeks thread... someone passed on unexpectedly?

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and welcome back Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

Well, just because I put something on the Honey-do list, it does not mean it will get done immediately. This is, if anything, my way of not nagging. I just never mention it again, even if it's bothering me (as when he put up the bathroom curtains backwards after I washed them and didn't fix it for a month). Once it's on the list, it can stay there until hell freezes over, unless it's something urgent on the car. For example, last fall Max went crazy because he heard a very noisy flock of geese and he went barreling into our sliding screen door on to the deck, pushing it so hard it came partially out of the frame. I don't think it will get fixed and/or replaced until it gets really warm and we want the glass sliding door open, and the bugs outside.

Valerie, whenever they do the national weather on MSNBC, the weather person remarks on how bad the weather has been in the Northwest, usually talking about too much rain in Portland and Seattle. For some reason I thought you were headed to Utah.

I really should make lists for travel. I have a tendency to just throw in a bunch of stuff, half of which I could do without--unless it's a carry-on, and then I edit, probably too much. I was freezing in England last year.

Back to classes.

You're absolutely right Linda, we'd planned on Utah but lost almost 2 full days at the beginning due to the tire failure. it's further than southern Oregon. wish we'd gone anyway, but without a smart phone it's hard to get weather updates for areas other than where you are at the moment. we didn't realize our spare tire was a POS! said not to drive over 50 mph and we had this huge camper on besides. the tire is mounted under the back end of the truck and not very visible and we thought it was the same kind of tire as the others, which are expensive tires with barely 20,000 freeway miles on them. so we felt stupid and unprepared and then everything seemed to go wrong after.

the campground was supposed to have WIFI but it didn't work, and the campground ranger was AWOL all weekend. still not there monday am when we left. supposed to have water turned on and it wasn't, phone for ranger and for someone at the wildlife refuge adjoining.... no one answered all weekend. so we were feeling pretty unlucky and decided a closer trip was the best choice. we should get some $$ credit for the tire failure but had to leave it at the tire dealer.... way too big to carry around for a week.

Enough whining... we are OK and will get to utah (maybe) next trip.

Lists get easier after you do them for a while. sometimes the most obvious stuff gets forgotten. We "over" rather than under pack. in small towns it's hard to get what you need if you forget.

Good morning,

A late night last night, class started late so we didn't get home until 10:30. Then of course we are all wound up, and it's hard to get to sleep. It was fun though and Kylee is doing better every week. Next week has us starting at 9:00. I may have to pass on that one.

Valerie, boy, you had a run of bad luck with the tires and the weather. The person that passed on was Sean O'Malley, he is the one that produced all the Cardio Coach workouts. I have almost all of them. He was only 40, so sad. There are a couple of threads in the Open forum, one from Cathe is very touching, she posted a pic of her and Sean and others commented. Then there is one that has the post from hsi Facebook page that his sister wrote. It was a real shock to some of us. I guess some that were very close to them maybe knew or suspected the details.

Garance, do you like Afterburn? I think I did one pre-mix and for some reason, I never reach for it. I guess it has been "voted" as the most difficult of this series. I should make a "honey-do" list and put it up on the refrigerator. Mostly my list would consist of organizing and tossing stuff, things he hates to do. We will be having family for Easter brunch and I will have to start nagging him to clean his fly tying bench ( which is in the living room) before Sunday. ...I'll just tell him that he certainly doesn't want 2- 3 year olds, or 2- 1 year olds getting into that stuff does he? watch how fast it gets cleaned up. LOL

Hi to Josie, & Joan ( under tax forms?),

Take care,

Did the mt bike yesterday about 2 hours. really fun but hard. DH can ride most of the uphills. I can do more but after a certain pitch... I can't. so I jump off and push the bike up the hill so it's not a "freebie" just a little less for the quads. I rode all the downhills yesterday for the first time. I try to do a little more each time. yoga this morning and then something else.

I keep a couple lists going. groceries. other shopping. long term list. I add /cross off as the get done. DH adds to them but doesn't have his own. I always feel silly standing in Lowe's /Home Depot saying to myself "now what was the other thing we needed". with the ongoing lists it happens less. I do shopping in a sweep, hit places in sequence, and get everything done in driving order. I don't like shopping, keeps trips minimum.

We felt very much "under a bad sign" the first weekend. too many things going wrong.

I will go look at the other threads.. Deb, you do a lot of CC workouts. wow, 40? That's a stunner. anyone have a clue what went wrong? not that his family would need to reveal that, but sometimes they want to.

I think Afterburn is the hardest cardio of the group. I've done it the least but never expected that cyclemax would get done the most. things don't go as you think they will.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Slide and Glide (52 min.). I especially like the stretch at the end of this one. I'm really glad when the burpees and jacks are finally over and I know the cardio portion is coming to an end.

Deb, for some reason I really like After Burn. I really feel like I've had a great workout at the end of this one, even if I modify some of the stuff with easier moves.

Off to class--I will try to stop back later.

Hi again--

Gosh, Valerie, that sounds like the trip from hell. Bad karma. Is your weather better now? During the first week of spring break, we had unbelievably wonderful weather--sunny, 70s up to 80 a couple days. Then everything went downhill. Now it's sunny, but a cold wind.

Deb, it sounds like you know how to press the right buttons to get things done. I wish my DH didn't just expand his clutter endlessly, until we have overnight guests coming, and he has papers all over the guest bedroom. He also likes putting papers on the stairs, who knows why. He does finally move them before I start the vacuum. I just put on the Honey-Do list: "Remove dead cat from roof of chicken brooder." This was a feral cat that now looks mummified in a shape as if it was electrocuted. I didn't know what it was at first because it looked a bit like Wiley Coyote after Road Runner does something to him--all splayed out with spikey fur. Max found it and DH put it on top of this roof that I can see from the living room window. Lovely.

Man, I am counting the days until this, my final semester is over!

Good morning,

I did CC# 7 ( first 35 minutes) this morning. I think I will go over to his site and purchase some of the ones I don't have.

Valerie, there was a long post about Sean and the last 2 years. I guess it was a downward spriral, and even though they did everything they could to help, it didn't. So sad. WTG on the mountain biking, 2 hours is a great workout, and walking uphill pushing a bike is no easy challenge.

Garance, John is a paper hoarder too! Any flat surface and he will spread out some type of paper stuff. The only place that stays clutter and paper free is our dining room. I kind of "layed down the law" when we purchased it, and he has been great about it. But as for the coffee table in the living room, it's like his "office away from the office" All kinds of junk, there. That, and the library table, etc etc. Nuff whining. LOL about the dead cat on the roof. When is your last day of work? Are you having any kind of retirement celebration?

Cathy, if you see this, let us know that you are ok.

Hi to Josie and Joan,

take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the Upper Body Split on Total Body Trisets (56 min.).

Deb, I'm not sure where it is in Texas for Cathy, although I remember her saying they were in drought conditions a couple years ago. It's almost embarrassing how many events there are for my retirement. The President is having a dinner for me on May 3; the English dept. a party on May 25; a dinner again at the President's house the night before graduation with the trustees and honorary degree recipients; then at Commencement, a special tribute. By then I will be ready to retire from my retirement. My last classes are on May 10, but then there's the paper-grading.

Well, the cat thankfully disappeared.

Good morning,

Got a late start this morning, just lost track of time.

Garance, I am so envious of you and your retirement! I will be in the place you are this time next year. I have a tentative date of July 1, 2013 in mind. They say that once you set a date, you begin to "think" like a retired person, and I don't want to get into that mind set while I am still working. LOL.

Hi to Valerie, Josie, & Joan,

Later...

Back briefly. Did a treradmill session on tuesday and yesterday we finally had a decent spring day and DH and I did major garden work. Major. got a TON (yes) of compost and unloaded it and distributed in the garden, then tilled it in. planted peas and sweetpeas, spinach and onions. also divided &transplanted a few ornamentals. whew. it was like 3 days work in one.

Linda that is lovely you get to retire with some ceremony and accolades that you richly deserve. Deb, I hope you get the same. many of us end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and it's a terrible experience. I got fired ( along with hundreds of others) when I was in my mid forties. I did a few other jobs, worked for DH where I was unceremoniously fired again when someone found out we were "married" even though the same company set up the deal years earlier. I had my own business one day and the next was unemployed. didn't make sense to start again as transcription was going the way of the phone booth. I was not ready to retire though so it was a bitter experience.

off to yoga more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.).

It's true, Deb, about thinking like a retired person once you set a date. With every paper I grade, I think, "Wow, soon I won't have to correct this idiotic mistake ever again!" I still don't understand how/why students cannot tell the difference between it's and its. I was taught this in grade school and never forgot.

Valerie, I envy your planting. Planting season here is still a long way off. Last night it went below freezing again.

Went to see an Iranian film, A Separation, yesterday. It won the Oscar for the best foreign film. It's pretty harrowing and intense, but I do recommend it.

Off to teach--both classes today.

also while you're at it, tell me why can't people differentiate between "your" and "you're" or to, too, and two. Drives me nuts. I have that movie on my wait list. right now we're watching "Boardwalk"... just started it. looks decent.

It still might freeze but these things are fine even if it does. peas won't come up for 2 weeks at least. lots of people plant them (around here) in mid Feb but I never thought that would work. tender things like tomatoes are in the cold frame.

too funny... I'm the one who generates paper piles. if I file something I never think of it again so I have strategically placed piles of things. my office is kind of messy but I don't lose things and it all gets done on time. I'm bad about recipes, lots floating around in stacks and "need to try" piles. every now and then I purge things!

Glad the dead cat is gone.. I would not look at that for 15 minutes without kicking up a fuss.

Another crappy night, up at 2:30 with a little dog that now has it in her mind that she has to go outside at that time every night.

No workout today, I just could not see getting up at 4:00 after being outside at 2:30 and having a hard time getting back to sleep.

Valerie, do you watch TV when you are on the treadmill? You should try a Cardio Coach, or iTrain.

Garance, I know what you mean about the slaughtering of the language. Will anyone in the future know how to write a real letter? Especially now with texting etc, it's like a whole new language. I hate it. I have a Blackberry so I don't have to use a telephone keypad to text or e-mail. My notes are written normal, with whole words and everything...imagine that? Off my soap box now...I am sounding old.

It should be a really quiet day today, this is a Canadian holiday and most, if not all of our customers will be closed down. We also have a lot of people off so very quiet.

Easter plans?

Deb, I watch "something" while on the treadmill. Used to watch Oprah, cooking channel, home improvement channel. or the exercise channel, where I first came across Cathe. Sadly, most are no longer available. Like Bruce said, "57 channels and nothing on". I watch the cooking channel depending on who happens to be on. I do 30-35 min. want something fairly mindless. Ellen, dr phil, dr oz are just annoying. I tend to do treadmill while dinner is in process, keeps me out of snacking mode.

whoa, need to get DH's breakfast going, back later.

I'll take a look at cardio coach. where would I find itrain? I need visuals, can't work out to headphones.
Did S&G yesterday. I still find it challenging. the pure cardio part not so much, but the burpees and the move on your hands, sliding leg sideways and back. still hard for me.

My birthday presents are still trickling in. online orders... can't predict when they'll arrive. DH ordered me some things after we got back from vacation. some new bike (padded) capris and a stovetop espresso maker. that's for the camper. I'm testing it out now. it's a neat looking machine and will work with no electricity since stove is propane. Love my morning latte and so does he!

I get pretty annoyed with shortcuts and sloppiness. I was stunned when I heard someone complaining about not being able to read cursive. not being taught surprised me too. what will become of signatures? I'm not so sure how valuable cursive is anymore... I don't write much but even when I keyboard I use real words and sentences. some abbreviations.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did AT (56 min.).

I have no desire to learn how to text. I find it annoying watching students just out of class with their little phones, either listening to them, calling someone, texting, or checking to see if they have any messages. I still write letters, notes, in cursive. I don't care if I sound old and cranky. Studies suggest that all of that texting is no substitute for real conversations or meaningful communication.

Happy Birthday, Valerie! My morning coffee is always black and strong, but for lunch, I love my latte with four shots. I still find all those burpees in S & G pretty daunting, too. I sometimes substitute for that second set.

Deb, Kaylee sounds like she has a mind of her own where her bladder is concerned. I wouldn't get up again at 4 either after a 2:30 wake-up call. Makes me yawn just thinking about it.

Enjoy the Easter weekend or the beginning of Passover! Hope your brunch goes well, Deb!
