Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/4/

Hi Ladies,

My DD and I took the day off yesterday and went to get our hair done. I now have my aerodynamic hair cut for this weekend’s ride ;) I went spinning last night and will do the same tomorrow. I want so save my energy for Sunday.

My DD is taking our dog Astro to the vet today. He is almost 13 and is now in poor health. He has aged so much in the last 2 days, he no longer has any muscles and his stomach looks swollen. We know that this is caused by the tumors that seem to have grown over night. We don’t want him to suffer and may have to put him down today.
He has been a great companion to our family and we love him and will miss him very much.

Garance, I also woke up feeling like I’m getting a head cold. My DD has been sick since Tuesday, so I know where I got it from. I’m also taking the Mega C and took a Claritin this morning.

Hi to Cathy, Joan, Deb and Valerie!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

I just slept in this morning. I think I feel like I may not get a cold, but I'm still taking the zinc and feel really BLAH--no energy and kind of achy. I'm glad I don't have any papers to grade this weekend. Unfortunately, I have student conferences all afternoon. I don't know why they wait until the last minute to see me.

Josie, so sorry about your dog. It's really hard and I know that with our last feller we probably waited too long. DH would carry him around to his favorite spots because he just wouldn't let him go--he was a real farm companion, not an indoor dog at all.

So yesterday it's up close to 70 degrees, and then it snows over night. Weird!

Season 2 was really, really dramatic, Deb, but it ended on a very high note. Have fun!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Josie, so sorry about your dog. It is so hard to let go, but think of the good life he had, and that you want him to go peacefully without pain. They give us so much, and ask for so little in return. If only they could live longer.

Josie. it's so unfair that dogs have such short lives. Putting our dog down was incredibly hard on us and we probably let it go too long too. I was carrying him up and down stairs so he could go out, and then had to watch so he didn't fall off something because he suddenly was almost blind. when things go wrong, they progress so much faster than we expect. If he's not enjoying anything anymore, it's time.

another word of caution for everyone... headcolds seem to be suddenly everywhere.

Hi all,

Well it's the weekend ( mine actually started yesterday). Although we lose an hour tonight, I am so glad to be off of work for a few days.

I went to see my godchild's baby yesterday, so cute. Keegan's UA was not good again, the vet is getting frustrated, and I almost snapped at him myself, because he doesn't want to change anything, Let's not go there.

Valerie, I think I would keep the plain old regular pedal and use my normal workout shoes. What you describe sounds very painful. I will watch out for the headcolds.

Garance, hope you feel better today.

Hi to Josie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

Still not feeling good. felt awful yesterday afternoon, sore throat, congestion that comes and goes. I went to bed very early, slept until almost 7 this morning. almost 12 hours. I feel better but not normal. this is the weirdest "cold" I've had. I felt like this last weekend, loaded up on vit C and zinc and then it disappeared for a week, only to rise again in exactly the same way, out of nowhere. I did not exercise either thurs or friday except for my yoga class and probably won't today either. we have some friends coming for lunch tomorrow who are moving, and I want to at least not be sneezing and wheezing all over the place. DH keeps saying it's allergies but I don't think so. I'm thinking it's a virus that just can't quite get a foothold.

Deb changing the pedal to the clip is not that simple. tools required. not THAT a big deal to do once, but changing back/forth several times a week would be annoying. I want to try it and see if it helps. I'll be able to tell in 30 min. maybe it won't make enough difference to bother. DH could use bike shoes with reg pedals, I'd use tennies.

that is so weird with Keegan. Same food, same snacks same water? nothing different? same "input" but different "output"?

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

Today was Housemax. I feel back to normal. I truly hope I don't have something that will come back to bite me next week like you, Valerie. We plan on going to Boston for next weekend. It will probably be a bit crazy, because St. Patrick's Day is the day for pub-crawlers in Boston.

I would be frustrated, too, Deb, if the vet cannot seem to get whatever is causing the problems with Keegan's urine. Don't want to give up that hour of sleep tonight.

One more week of classes, then Spring Break for two weeks. Yippee! (I will have a couple sets of papers to read, but every set done, I feel like I'm getting closer to the END OF GRADING!) I'm sure you all will welcome an end to my whining.

Off to read some Freud.
