Good morning,

John got up with the beasts this morning at 4:00 am and let me sleep in. I went back to sleep until 6:30. Heavenly. We had a little snow last night, a dusting at best.

Valerie, hope you are able to ward off that cold. It has to be difficult trying to assist your Mom from a distance. The type of shooting I used to do was originally called "Combat Shooting". They changed the name to Practical Pistol shooting for politcal reasons, as you can imagine. The moving around, shooting around barricades, through windows, and re-loading on the fly was the exciting part. How difficult is it to get a gun permit in Washington? It took me 9 months to get mine.

Garance, enjoy the Comfort Meal!

Off for more coffee, and to get going around here...

Take care,

Morning Deb. so far so good, my cold symptoms are much less than yesterday. I will keep up vit c, zinc, and not do anything too strenuous outside in cold air. maybe I will dodge this one. I took a 12 hr antihistamine yesterday too, and it might have worked. it was supposed to be sunny today but forecast changed and don't feel compelled to exercise outdoors.

combat shooting sounds like a fun activity. I don't think there's more than a couple day wait period for a gun here.
I was so surprised, we both enjoyed it and honestly, I'm pretty competitive. fun being better than DH at something, especially a "manly" sport. If we are going to have a weapon to carry with us, we need to use it regularly so it's familiar should we actually need it. Our friends are big time hunters and are armed to the teeth when they go out. DH and I have hiked everywhere and never needed any kind of weapon so we're not going nuts about this. however, overnight camping in grizzly country is anxiety producing. we carry bear spray, probably the best deterrent. I think if you were charged or stalked by a bear, pepper spray would work better and no risk of shooting yourself or your partner accidentally. having a firearm along? I'm not convinced yet. we had to climb a tree once to get away from a herd of javalinas. we didn't know if they were dangerous so it was easiest to get out of the way. snakes, just back away. we've hiked with hundreds of black bears, never a problem. but target shooting for fun I could get into.

good deal on the good nights sleep!.

Hi Deb, Valerie and any later posters--

This morning I did Turbo Barre (74 min.).

Wow, Valerie, that's impressive. I thought the recoil on pistols always made it hard for a beginner with a gun. You must have nerves of steel. I still haven't watched 50 50. Just too tired last night. Hope you can shake the cold with zinc and other stuff.

Deb, happy ZZZZ!

Final 3 papers this afternoon and a class prep for Midsummer Night's Dream, a really fun play.

Good morning,

Today I did a Cardio Coach workout on the treadmill. It was tough, but I got through it.

Valerie, I would be more worried about the "2 legged" animals out in the wilderness. I think we have a 3 day waiting period to get the pistol, after you get the permit. It's getting the permit that takes forever. You would both need to apply for a permit, then purchase the gun and put it on both of your permits, so you are both able to transport it etc. John has a concealed carry permit, mine is only for target practice.

Garance, how was the dinner? Did you get those final papers graded? I watched 2 more episodes of Downton. Love it! It's starting to get really good now. I want to catch up so I can start taping it from TV, although haveing the DVD's is kind of convenient. What season is on TV right now? 3rd?

Hi to Joan, Josie, & Cathy,

Take care,

I dodged the headcold. I was very active yesterday... yardmax... but not a bunch of heavy breathing of cold air, which feels like it could push me over the edge into a cold. lots of dragging yard gear, pruning, winter clean up chores. I slept fine and didn't wake up with any symptoms. I am SO relieved! I hate headcolds. congrats on cardio coach Deb. I need to do something today 2 days off feels like a vacation.

I don't think I have "nerves of steel" but I wasn't nervous. I took an antihistamine that morning thinking I was coming down with the headcold, and was worried about having the brain fog that sometimes comes with it but I was OK. we are going to start the process for permits. I don't think we need a concealed carry permit. in theory, two legged predators could be an issue. we've always been cautious about doing anything stupid. If a group looks like 'trouble" we move.

we finished the "Shameless" series. it was quite good. maybe not for everyone but clever and funny. a little gross at times but I adapted. started one called "bones" but does not look very good. tried "modern Family" and didn't like it. several other series on netflix but all have long waits for the first disk. I saw downton at costco, season 2. didn't notice the price.

Hi Ladies,

It was so hot in LA this weekend but I did ride 50 miles on Saturday and 23 on Sunday.
I had a headache after Sunday’s ride and was glad that it was a short ride. The temperature was 89 along the beach.

Deb, I’m glad that you got some sleep.

Joan, hope that you are doing well.

Hi to Cathy, Garance and Valerie

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

Last night I decided not to go with the Comfort Sunday meal, but DH loved it. There was a sausage on something for the first course, and a goulash for the second. Instead, I did a lovely chicken roulade with a lemon risotto. DH shared his chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache. Yummy meal.

Deb, season 2 of Downton Abbey had its finale a couple weeks ago, so it's not on the air anymore. Maybe you should just buy season 2 and record season 3 next year. Yep, I sure did finish those papers yesterday, and now I don't have any until right before spring break, two weeks from now.

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

I forgot to mention that my office mates are out today and it is like heaven in here ;) No drama no gossip just peace and quiet.

Deb, I do not have a set date for retirement yet. My DH and I have been discussing it, but I hope that it will be soon.

Josie

another yard day that subbed for exercise. next we need to get a load of manure/compost mix. actually more than one load. spreading it is pretty intense experience. stinky. sticky. definitely need a shower after. but that's almost it. planting is pretty easy compared to preparation.

also it snowed again last night. too dark to tell but looks like a couple inches so no yoga this morning. when the local school district runs on 2 hours late, they cancel the 7am class. bummer. I haven't been to class for what seems like ages!

I made bread ...foccacia yesterday. also minestrone to go with it. very nice lunch. I don't get to eat much bread anymore so it was special.

89 degrees! wow. I could (maybe) do that after acclimating to the heat but in march that's hard to imagine. it actually sounds good. tired of cold and wet and looking at 3-4 inches of snow this morning.
Josie could you put on an ipod at work to block out the coworkers? Even if it's not "on" it would look like you were listening to something and maybe they'd shut up.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did LIC (51 min.).

Valerie, I cannot imagine being housebound with only a couple inches of snow. Our problem is all the salt they put on the roads if there is the tiniest snowfall. DPW just needs all that overtime pay.

Josie, I envy that 89-degree weather, too. It's been very cold and blustery yesterday and today. But at least it's sunny and it sounds like the next two days will be a real warmup. Enjoy your day without annoying coworkers!

Hi Deb!

I won't be housebound today, it's almost melted already. the sun is out. it's beautiful out there! too bad DH had to work today.

I don't like the studio policy. schools run 2 hours late if 5 snowflakes fall. I know buses are hard to maneuver. the school district decides in the middle of the night what their hours will be if it snows. it's easy to access info online and on a ticker line on TV early for parents to plan ahead. the studio decided that was an easy way to let people know early on, without having to contact every client on their call list, since anyone can go to any class. so I'll just settle for exercise here today, and get some baking chores done ahead of time. it's 8 ;30 and the roads are bare and wet. oh well. we might ski tomorrow.

Hi Ladies,

They are baaaaaaaaaaack! The one behind me has not stop talking since she came in and he voice volume has gone up or maybe I’m just so annoyed that it seems louder.

I will need my workout tonight to release all the stress for today. I will be spinning.

This weekend I will be doing a metric century (65 miles) in San Diego and visiting my DS and his family. I have not seen my new GS since Christmas and he is 3 months today. My DS is doing well in school; he is studying to be a dental hygienist.

My DD will be graduating in May, can you believe it!

The weather here is in the low 60’s for today and tomorrow and then it will be going up to the mid 70’s for the weekend. I hope it is cool on Sunday.

Well, have to get back to work and I hope I can tune these people off. Valerie, the headphones will not help, because they just come up to my desk and stand there to talk to me 

Have a great day everyone!

Josie

Good morning,

Not much new here, up at 2:00 am with the Vixen, who really did have to go so I'm glad I took her out. Went back to sleep then apparently Keegan had to go so he went to John's side of the bed and nudged his arm until he got up and took them both out, this was at 3:00, I didn't even hear them. Got up at 5:00.

Garance, took your advice and bought season 2. I went on the PBS site and you can watch episodes right there on line, but who wants to sit at a computer and watch an hour of TV? I guess if I had to I would, but not comfortable at all and right in the middle of the dogs playing, John reading etc. Why is it so long before season 3 is on? do you know the date? I tried to find it looking around, Google etc, but could not. I guess Shirley McClaine (sp?) is going is going to be in season 3.

Valerie, I have to laugh at the weather this year, it's like the country is tipped upside down or something. Is the manure used in a veg garden?

Josie, are these co-workers long term employees? do they report to you or to someone else? That would drive me crazy too. I can't imagine riding 65 miles on a bike around here, roads are horrible for bike riding. I bet you are excited to see your GS.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did High Reps (65 min.).

Definitely feels like spring here at almost 60 degrees. A very weird winter.

Deb, I wouldn't expect season 3 to begin until 2013. I think they only do 6 episodes, but two of them are two hours long. It's Masterpiece Theater, so they don't do regular TV series of 13 episodes. Shirley Maclaine is playing the American grandmother I believe. It will be interesting to see her matched up against Maggie Smith.

Poor Josie! You are probably too nice. Anyway to discourage them? Like, "I can't talk to you right now." Have fun with your new grandson. I wonder if I will ever be a grandma.

Hi to Valerie!

Hey,

another day in NOT Paridise. LOL. The weather here yesterday was beautiful, it almost got to 60 I think. I took tomorrow off, stuff to do ( mammo, take Keegan's sample in for another UA, get my eye exam form filled out so I can renew my license), yada yada.

Garance, I love Maggie Smith in the series, everything she says is so wicked and funny. I did get the second season on Ebay. Did you give the set to your FIL?

We lose an hour of sleep this weekend, depressing.
Gotta run, time to get ready for another day of
worksucks2.gif

I think a bunch of people were ticked off about the yoga class being cancelled again because they sent out an extra memo reiterating their winter weather policy. going this morning, so I'll find out the details.

tuesday I did cycle max, most of it. I am going faster but my feet do NOT like the hard soled cycle shoes and cleats. band aids on my toes and padded socks barely help. it's too hard to switch between the cleats and plain pedals every time so not sure how we will work this out. I like the cycling program and don't even need padded shorts but my feet HATE cycle shoes. HATE them. no wonder I couldn't use them for street riding.

wed we did a 8.5 mile xc ski. it was a lovely morning and lovely snow at the beginning. cold and clear with fresh snow. the trip down wasn't as good as the sun warmed things up and the snow got clumpy and sticky and hard to ski on. still a very good workout 5.5 hours total.

Deb the manure/compost mix is for the vegie garden and also our regular planting beds for flowers and bushes. we have a lot of landscaping. I'm allergic to grass and want as little as possible. need to 'feed" them occasionally.

I guess you can feel good that the dogs wake you up rather than just use the floor. at 3 am I'm not sure how happy I'd be though.

I could ride here for 65 miles if I could sit on the seat that long... not likely. it takes planning by cities and communities to make sure bike lanes are constructed when roads are. roads without big shoulders are hazardous! and some motorists don't think they need to share, even a little. we're picky about where we street ride.

wow, gotta get going , more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.).

I am trying to stave off a cold with Cold-eez lozenges. So many students are sick with one thing or another, I guess I had to catch something. I really cannot even remember the last time I had a cold.

Deb, I did send the Downton Abbey first season to my fil. Not sure if it has arrived yet (I sent it on Monday). He is rather hard of hearing, so I'm sure he will appreciate the subtitles. It's balmy here today--in the 60s--but it's supposed to take a sharp turn colder tomorrow. I agree, I don't want to lose an hour of sleep.

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Linda, my recent experience was zinc lozenges, a load of vitamin C, and an antihistamine. Claritin OTC. If I get "on it" early, right when the first symptoms start showing up, I can sometimes stop the process. maybe some previous immunity to a virus I've had before, who knows? I always try. wishing you luck on stopping it "cold". tee hee. couldn't resist....

good yoga class today, first in almost 2 weeks for me. felt great.

I am off today,
banana016.gif
taking in a sample for a UA for Keegan, then right to a mamo at 8:30. Free after that. I may go see my godchild's new baby, if she is not busy.

Valerie, can't you wear normal sneakers, or whatever you wear to do a workout on the spin bike? Oh, I did finally try the subtitles on my DVD player and it was great! Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Garance, we had the same thing happen here with the weather, 60 on Wednesday, then cold and rainy yesterday. Better than snow, that is what everyone says. I watched the last episode last night, can't wait for season 2 to get here.

Hi to Josie, Joan ( are you ok?),

take care,

Deb, bike shoes have an connection on the bottom that clips onto a cleat which substitutes for a plain old regular pedal. (you remove the regular pedal). the two parts click together and secures your foot to the pedal. DH loves them. I've struggled with it from day 1.
we took the cleats off my road bike after I fell over for the LAST time. I have trouble unclipping. when you're still attached to the pedal, you can't get your foot loose and you fall over. my ankles are ridiculously flexible. the unclipping motion is not a definite movement for me.
we put my cleats on the spin bike instead of regular pedals. we thought it would be Ok because you can't fall over on a spin bike. the bike shoes are tearing up my toes. even a band aid and extra socks are not helping. the shoes hold my feet in an abnormal position for me. I think we will have to rotate the regular pedals and the cleats or I won't be able to use it much.
otherwise I like the spin bike, it's a good workout.I am faster than I was initially. If you watch the cyclemax dvd you can see some use clip systems, others regular pedals with toe baskets.
Best of luck on the mammo. those are always sweat producers until you get the results back.

I LOVE subtitles. you can ignore them or turn them off if you don't need them, but for the mumbled line you just don't "get", they're wonderful. and especially for British things where words are pronounced differently or strange ( to us) words are used.

Linda, hope you dodged the headcold.

Joan, check in and let us know you are Ok and just busy.
