Good Morning Garance, Linny and all that follow:

Today I did the Christie Taylor Get Fit & Dance DVD. I am not too sure if this is something I will do again. I thought it would be more of a circuit type workout, but it is more aerobics with a dance theme. I still like the Ab part, which is worth the price of it. I know I will use that part to add to my cardio days. I had a really bad eating day yesterday. It started with something at a BBQ place called a "Piggy Pie" nuf said. I am done with the garbage eating. I may go back to posting my menus...that is when I do my best for some reason. It' still really cold here and no end in sight..sigh..I am so ready for some warmer weather.

Update on the Puppy front..we contacted another breeder of a PBGV ( "Petite Basset Griffon Vandeen").. they had a litter born on Jan28, most are promised to others already. They are 8 weeks old right now, but do not go to the new owners until 10 weeks. They are keeping 2 males that look promising as show prospects right now. They will decide in a couple of weeks. I asked that they contact us if they decide not to keep them. We would want a male. The only problem is that they are in New Castle Delaware. We would have to go to get the puppy. The other one ( Wire Fox Terrier) is in the Chicago area.. no local breeders have puppies right now.

Garance: you eat such healthy things! I don;t like sushi but I think it is good for you correct?

Hi to Linny, Jen & Josie:

Have a great start to the week!

Deb ;-)

Hi Deb and later posters--

I did Christi this morning, too. I love the dance stuff on this one--especially the Latin one and the hip-hop.

It was nine degrees this morning when I got up. For heaven's sake, where is spring??? Tomorrow it's supposed to be more of that mixed precipitation crap, but DH says Tuesday is supposed to go up to 61 degrees. I'm not holding my breath, me of little faith.

Yes, sushi is very good for you, and that's what I had last night. mmmmm! I also had (ahem!) two Manhattans, so I cannot claim to be super-health-conscious. A "piggie pie?" They must be pretty fearless (or shameless?) to name it that way--or they want to attract fearless (or shameless?) eaters?

Is a petite Basset Griffon a cross of some kind? Basset hound and Griffon?

Have you looked at the blog, Deb? Looks like Cathe has invented some new torture machine for us, which I will probably buy.

Hi to Linny, Jen, and Josie.

Hi Ladies:
Deb: Good Luck in the puppy search.Hope you find a good match for your family. What the heck is piggy pie? Sounds like something you'd eat at Christmas.I've been studying the last few days for my boating license.I have to have it before summer or no pulling my DH waterskiing.Might it grounds for divorce;)
Garance:I did hear some snow and rain for tomorrow but then 60's on tuesday. At least then it will all melt. I was pretty good last night for dinner, instead of ordering fried scallops I had then broiled. When I got home I had 2 capecoders(cranberry and vodak). Not bad for a saturday night.
That pull-up stand looked pretty cool.I wonder if its going to be expensive? I'llcheck in tomorrow.Good night~Linny~

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

Today I did a 40 min I-Tread. I am so glad that I have a few of these to choose from and am not getting bored with them. They really raised their prices. The one hour long ones went from $8.99 to $12.99! I can see a little raise but I think the went over board. Most people said they are not ordering any more. The Wire Fox Terriers in Illinois were born Friday! 7 puppies, 4 boys and 3 girls. I really want one of these, however, we were too late to be on the list. I did e-mail her and let her know we are still interested, if they are going to let any of the males go as pets or if someone else backs out on a male. These are really our breed. The PBGV is just one we got interested in when we had the 2 dogs already. Here is a link to the
newborns:

Garance:
I guess I am just not into the dance routines Christie does. I love the ab work though. 9 degrees? burr... cold. It got into the high 40's here yesterday. Now it's rainingx( . The place we went to is called Suzy's BBQ. Suzy and her husband are really into barbeque. Her husband "invented" the Piggy Pie. They have all sorts of stuff, along with the regular BBQ things you get elsewhere. The PBGV is a French breed, and is part of the Hound group. Yes I am at the Blog every day. I am going to buy that pull up contraption. They said it would be under $100.

Linny:
Piggy Pie is a 5 layer dish, with french fries, beans, pulled pork, cheese and cole slaw. I had the cole slaw on the side..LOL Cole Slaw on BBQ is a Memphis thing. Good luck with the boating license! How does that work? do you have to take a water test? How's work going?

Have a great day!

Deb:)

Hi Deb and Linny--

This morning I did Cardio Dance Fusion (45 min.). Very high fun factor if you love to dance, which I did this morning. Some mornings I just want a no-brainer, but this morning I felt like I could dance, and since this was the third time, I was almost there.

I hate this weather. It's more of that mixed precipitation stuff today.

Watched another installment of John Adams last night. It's really good, Linny.

Where did you see the price on that contraption, Deb. Heck, if it's that cheap, I'll buy it. It also looks like they are using a ton of risers on these mesocycles. I wonder if I will feel I need them.

Judy looks like a proud mama. I wish you luck on a puppy. They are such cute, sassy-looking dogs when they grow up.

Do you have to drive a boat to get your license, or is it just a written test?

Hi Ladies:
Deb: Those puppies are sooo cute.I hope you'll be able to get one. That piggy pie sounds calorie-laden for sure.I would have had the coleslaw on side too.The boat license is for all boats and thank God its only written exam.Once I get the license its good for life.
Garance:We also had the mixed deal, more rain then anything.I'll be sure to tell DH that the John Adams series is good.He is very interested.I didn't realize how much you need to know to get a license. All the different colored buoys and their meanings, how many whistle blows, all parts of the boat(jetski, sailboat and motorboat)ect;I am so glad I don't have to have driving test,I'd be to nervous with them in boat.
Well its the beginning of my 4 day stretch.I did buy some Zantac, just in case I need it tonite. Its med sheet change over tonite.Hopefully it will be quiet so I can learn how to do it.Have a great night~Linny~

Good Morning and Happy April Fool's day!

Today I did the Up Only pre-mx from the Pyramid Upper body DVD. I like this workout a lot, if only she would go a little slower between setsx( . I usually pause the DVD and take a breath and a drink of water. It's still one of her best.

Well we heard from the other breeder in Syracuse that is the partner of the Illinois one. He has a dog ("Izzy") that will be bred in a week. This litter will be born about and hour and a half from here. It's very tempting, rather than going to Chicago! We can go down and see them before we even pick one, which is nicer. We will see what happens. It'suppsosed to get to 60 degrees today...I hope so! I can't believe after eating chocolate every day last week and topping the week off with the "Piggy Pie" I am down 1/4 pound! Maybe this is telling me that when I think I am doing good, I am not getting enough calories?

Garance:
You are a dancing fool! just kidding! I believe one of the responses in the STS forum from Chris said it would be under $100. I think that is pretty good. I am sure by the time you pay shipping, it will be around $100. The nice thing is it is supposed to be easily un-assembled to move out of the way etc.

Linny:
Wow that boat license sounds difficult! Good luck..when do you take the test? What is a "med sheet change"? I am sure you will be fine for the next 4 days, then you get 3 days off right?

Have a great day !

Deb
:)

Hi Ladies,

I'm back! I had a ton of e-mails to respond to yesterday and did not get a chance to post.

My DD decided to go to Howard University. We took the tour of the college and a tour of the dorms and she felt comfortable with it.
The school has alot to offer in the field that she wants.

I did manage to work out 2 days while I was gone and tried to eat well. I did gain 2lbs, but it was because I usually get constipated when I travel. This happens because I do not eat my 3 meals at my usual time.

Today I will be running 5.5 miles.

Have a great day!

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, and welcome back Josie--

This morning I did Jari Love's Get Ripped and Chiseled--about 60 min.

The rain last night washed all of the snow away, so I have high hopes that's it for the snow, and we can settle into mud season. It's 61 degrees here. Sacre bleu! Nine degrees on Sunday, 61 on Tuesday, with snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain on Monday. That's New England for you.

There's a very interesting piece by jeffrey Steingarten in Vogue this month titled, "You Are Not What You Eat." He goes through all of these studies that have proved, e.g., that salt does not contribute to high blood pressure, that there is no relation between cholesterol and the amount of fat in your diet, etc. I haven't finished it yet, but I always read Steingarten--great food writer.

Watched DWTS last night. I like Mario of the men, even though he wasn't in top form last night, and Kristi of the women, who definitely was--straight 9s.

Geez, Linny, who knew there were that many different colored buoys, or that different numbers of horn toots meant different things?

Glad your college tour was successful, Josie. Howard is an excellent school. I always take Colace along when I travel, because if not, I get constipated and bloaty and don't enjoy myself.

Hi Ladies:
Deb:Just a quick check-in.Have to leave for work.Change over for med sheets was pretty easy due to the fact we are low in admissions because of flu.Very beginning of month we change the med sheets and they have to be triple checked for errors then put in med books.
Garance:I can't wait till the day I have that license in my hotlittle hands.I think I might get the pull-up bar. We'll see how money is.
Josie: Welcome back.Congrats on finding a college for DD.I'm sure you'll lose that 2pds in no time you energizer bunny.~Linny~

Good Morning!

I did an I-Tread this morning that I was actually able to keep up with her pace. It's a walking one with 3 levels. I finally could get to level 2. Most of these have 3 levels, walking, jogging, and running, but the numbers they give are usually too high for me so I put myself .2 or .3 behind and just use that pace. I am down 3/4 pound from last weigh in.... how did that happen? maybe that Piggy Pie is better than I thought?LOL:7

Josie:
Welcome back! How exciting that your DD picked the school she wants to go to. Is this your last one home? I am sure your weight gain was the stress of being away. Once you get back to your normal schedule it will disappear!

Garance:
I keep looking at that DVD too...60 min is long for me. I am spoiled with Cathe's pre-mixes. I like Mario and Christie too. I didn;t think Mario's dance was too bad, they gave him a hard time, but if it was the dance, it wasn't his fault, they should blame Karina.( sp?). I taped the results show last night, will watch it tonight. I hear you on the weather. We had 60 degrees yesterday and 20's overnight. Not sure what we will have today. It makes dressing for work crazy!

Linny:
How are you feeling? Is the shift starting to feel normal yet?

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie--

This morning I did Leslie Sansone's Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles. This is the one with five 3-minute jogs as intervals. Also the one I can turn her off and just the music.

Good for you on the I-Tread Deb!

Chilly and very windy here today. At least the sun is out.

I watched American Idol followed by DWTS last night while weaving in strands of yarn on this multi-colored sweater I finally finished--or at least the pieces before blocking. Phew! I really don't know why I am attracted to these multi-colored sweaters and then finishing them is just a bore!

I won't tell you who got eliminated last night, Deb. Now I have to see who gets eliminated from American Idol.

Off to my annual physical this afternoon, followed by a boring faculty meeting. Blah!

Hi Ladies:
Deb:You're so good working everyday.I didn't work out yesterday or today. My stomach is still queasy at times.Right now its not bad,I think its because I got a pretty good sleep today.Normally I wake every 1-2 hours and don't feel rested when I get up.I'm expecting a busy night tonite since we are now open for admissions. One of our units got 4 admissions yesterday. It doesn't look like Jen is with us any longer :( Hope she is well.
Garance:I still haven't watched DWTS yet, just bits and pieces on comcast.I wish I could dance like that. Are you and DH anything like the couples there?
Hope you passed your physical with a hitch.
Last night was quite the experience driving to work.It was 60degrees when I left for work at 10pm.About 10minutes away from work,it started raining so hard I could barely see the road. And on top of that there were pockets of fog.I almost had to pull over and wait it out.Today its low 40's and very windy.I notice we have alot of buds coming out on the trees now,and actually have a few crocus in the yard.Has Spring sprung? ~Linny~

Good Morning!

Well I was all set to do L&G this morning at 4:30. I got started and cra**ped out at the 26 minute mark . What's up with that? I just stopped and decided to go upstairs. I guess part if it is I have done a complete 180 when it comes to weight work. I used to love doing lower body, and now it's upper body I love to do and hate lower body work..

Garance:
Very chilly here today too. I watched the resulst show of DWTS last night. I guess I wasn;t too surprised that The "Goot" got the boot. Next to go should be that radio guy. I'm with you. I think it will be between Christie and Mario at the end. I bet the sweater is very pretty. How did the physical go?

Linny:
I hope you feel better today. Maybe if you start to feel ok afer work, you should try to work out as soon as you get home? Just tell yourself that it is the same as if you were coming home from work at 6:00 pm!..then it would be out of the way for the day and you could sleep etc. You might have to start with short easy workouts to ease yourself into it. Wow that weather you are having sounds scary!

Saying Hi to Josie...I hope Jen is ok.

Have a great day!

Deb:)

Hi Deb and Linny and any later posters--

This morning I did 4ds LIS with shoulders, calves, and abs (66 min.).

Beautiful sunny day today, but only reaching into the 40s.

Deb, I sympathize, because I have always disliked lower body workouts because of my knees, but I try not to avoid them, because I'm sure I need to strengthen the muscles to support my bad knees.

Linny, DH and I are total amateurs. I'm a pretty good dancer--good sense of rhythm and follow steps easily--and he's not, but the acrobatics on DWTS are well beyond both of us. I would also topple pretty quickly in those spike heels.

My physical was okay--nothing unusual. I'll do the blood work next week--fasting for Tuesday. I haven't had a cold in well over a year, no flu. Just the same problem with my knees that won't go away.

Big afternoon teaching.

Hi to Jen and Josie.

Hi Ladies:

Deb: Too bad about not finishing your workout, maybe your body is trying to tell you it needs a little break.I don't like to do lower body anymore either. It seems the more weight I gain the less I like working lower half.I love to work shoulders, but I have to be careful because I bulk up easily there.
I did think about working out when I got home, but I'm so tired I just want to lie down.I think if I were able to workout I'd wake myself up to much then I wouldn't be able to sleep.I know I have to figure out something because I hate only working out fri, sat, sun and monday.
Garance:It also was sunny and 40's today.I heard we are getting a possible 2 inches of snow in the morning. What the h*ll! When will it end.
I have 2 left feet when it comes to dancing.I do think I probably would kill myself dancing in spike heels.Or either stab the person I'll dancing with a spiked shoe.
Glad to hear your physical was uneventful.
I think I scared the 19yr old LNA last night.Another nurse and I were talking about the hazards of working third shift and I said they have done studies that show night workers life expectancy is lower than any other shift. She got a little upset, because she loves third and wants to work it the rest of her life. She Googled dangers of working night shift and was shocked about higher incidence of illness and divorce.I hope I didn't cause her too start looking elsewhere. She's a good little worker.
Well I think I lie down for a bit before work~Linny~
Hi!Josie and Jen.

Hi Ladies,

I have not been to work since Wednesday. I fell on Tuesday while running and hit my forehead and ended up with 13 stitches. My eyes are now black and blue and a bit puffy. My DH told me that I will not be allowed to run without a football helmet from now on. My knees are stiff and also my neck. My partner and I were almost at the end of the run and I was just thinking that I fell very good considering that I had been away for one week without running when I tripped and fell. I did not blank out, but I did bleed a lot.

My DH took me to the ER and we were there for 7 hours. I don't know when I will be ready to work out, all I have been doing in laying on the couch and icing my face.

I will keep you posted.

Josie

Good Morning!

Today I did a 40 minute I-Tread. Anyone who does these knows how goofy Grace can be.. she says stuff like.. "we have a nice 35 minute workout ahead of us, 40 minutes to go"...uh? ..

I am glad it's Friday. Tough week at work. The weather is getting better here. Nice and sunny yesterday. I think it went up to 60.
:)

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Garance:
You are really the 4DS Girl! I really wish I could like the cardio parts of that series. It would be nice to do it "as is". Cathe actually broke down one of the harder step combinations for everyone on one of the threads. I copied it on to a word document in case some day I decide to try it. She said they are planning on having a section on the forum that will have those for the step worksouts someday. That would be nice for us that are not so good at getting her step. I may do my own lower body workout at some point. This way I can incorporate the leg curl and leg extension that I think work well for your legs. I have them on my weight bench. Glad you passed the physical with flying colors!

Linny:
I also read that the third shift does put stress on your body, something about not being natural to be awake all night and sleeping during the day. Goes against your body's natural rhythm or something. What if you work out right when you get up from sleeping the first time? Have a good strong cup of coffee and workout before eating or anything? It would almost mimick what I do ( minus the coffee).

Have a great day!

Deb :)

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie--

This morning I did the cackle and shriek Leslie (also known as the Walk Slim Fast and Firm 4 miles). Just under 60 min. I felt like a no-brainer this morning, and did work up a sweat after a groggy, reluctant start. I wanted to sleep in--grey and rainy here.

Oh, poor Josie! Sounds like a really jolting fall, making you sore all over. I once fell down the stairs with my vacuum cleaner, and ended up with a really bruised face and two black eyes. I could barely look at myself in the mirror.

DH went to a memorial service for a father of a very old friend. Not sure he will be back for our ballroom dancing lessons, but if he is, that's where we will be tonight. If not, I have Enchanted from netflix, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Hey Linny--did you ever meet with that personal trainer? Maybe you can get some advice from him/her about optimal times to work out. If you had Leslie, you could do one of her miles (15 min.), sleep, than do one or two more (12-25 min.) and her brief stretch. She's really easy to divide up.

Have a great weekend ladies!!

Hi,

Josie: I am sorry I did not see your post this morning..when I came on the thread...You poor thing! I hope you are feeling better!

Garance:
Now we have to decide if we want to buy a weighted vest? The equipment for STS is starting to add up:

Pull up thing
Med ball
weighted vest

hmmm....goes away thinking....
