Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B: 3/3

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact HiiT, premix 1 (49:22).

Valerie, I like my ipad for taking pictures and videos, and since I don't have a nook, I am reading books on it as well. You can download a ton of classics for free. I have been reading David Copperfield again. You can also download movies. Lots of apps. Have a safe trip.

Lori, I think a year sounds about right. Are you getting hammered with this recent storm? Here, it's like it can't make up its mind--drizzle, sleet, flakes, stops.....drizzle, sleet, flakes, stops. This has turned into a mostly-mud season.

Deb, what does your financial planner say about retirement? usually they can do projections of best, moderate, worst case scenarios.

Hi to Josie!

Good morning,

No workout today, unless I feel like doing something later on. Mammogram at 8:00 then the people are coming to replace my garage door opener. It will be nice to have a nice snow/ice free car again in the morning.

Garance, our financial planner has it all worked out for us with figures if I retire July 1, however it still scares me...it's the darn health care that is the big nut to crack, since neither of us is old enough for Medicare yet. The cost doubles for retirees, and I have John on my coverage.

Lori, you didn't real spoil the ending for Valerie...it will still be shocking!

Off to get ready, will check back later...

Take care,

...Just found out I sold 2 more DVD's on Ebay!! I culled out 8 of them that I have not used and listed them yesterday and this morning...:)

Hi Ladies,

Took the day off yesterday to go to the Dentist and had the electrician and the washing machine repair guy over. I did not workout yesterday, but today I did the Max Cardio Conditioning DVD. This one also kicks my butt!

Lori, I also started menopause at around 49 and have not had a period for the last 3.5 years. I’m 56 now and my body is finally back to normal 

Deb, I have decided to retire the end of June. I’m just counting the days now. The new director is already making everyone’s life miserable. She thinks she knows it all and it’s her way or the highway. She is stepping on a lot of toes.

Hi to Joan, Valerie and Garance!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Hard Strikes (46:37). Finally I am getting better on those snatches!

Good for you, Deb, on selling your dvds! Health insurance is a major issue, even if you have Medicare. You still need some kind of medigap policy. I just had lunch with a friend yesterday who wants to retire, but her problem is that she is boarding two horses that she loves, and that's 2000 dollars a month. She has no idea how long they will live and would never put them down unless she had to for medical reasons. She also bought a condo in Memphis to be close to her sister, but doesn't want to sell her home here because it's beastly hot in Memphis during the summer, and she has taxes on both homes, etc., etc. It's a tough decision for everyone, given how uncertain our economy is. If your work situation were as fraught with difficulties as Josie's maybe the decision would be a lot easier.

Last year at this time I was about to get in a load of papers to grade. I thought of that while having lunch with my friend yesterday, because she hates grading as much as I ever did. I am very pleased that I no longer torture myself with students' very bad writing.

Hope your flight went well, Valerie!

Good afternoon ladies!

I ran yesterday morning but did not do burn set bis and tris. Went out with the girls instead and had some delicious margaritas. so needless to say I did not to all out low impact this morning! very snowy here today and will be leaving work early. hoping to bump bis and tris and all out when i get home to catch up.

Tomorrow will be the worst for the snow. looks like about 6 more inches on top of what we have already! enough is enough!

Well spin bike has been ordered and with Amazon Prime I paid an additional $3.99 to have it overnighted. This way I can build on Saturday.

Good for you Deb with selling the DVD's. I have a few that are in "like new" condition that I just never do anymore. You have motivated me to sell them off.

oh how I would love to be even thinking about retiring! I am envious but happy for you those that have!

have a great night!

Ok I'm back. wow, killer trip. more to0morrow.

Don't worry about the DA spoilers... I accidentally read a newspaper article and know 2 of the big events that happen in the upcoming seasons. didnt realize so much info would be presented, and suddenly, there it was and I'd read it. I will still enjoy it. it's something that easily happens when you're always about a year behind so I'm used to it.

Good morning,

Nice day yesterday, but ate too much. :(. That's what happens when John and I are off together...we kind of go overboard with eating. We went to our favorite breakfast place after the mammo, then I ate a regular ham sandwich for lunch with chips...something I never do. ugh....well today is another day. Although I will be meeting my friend for coffee/breakfast, so there we go again.

Valerie, welcome back.

Josie, I am so envious of you!

Garance, wow, $2000 a month for boarding? I did not realize how expensive it was to keep horses. I knew it cost some money, but never that much. That is a really hard nut to crack each month, more than most people's mortgage payment!

Get this, the person ( woman) that bought the 2 most recent DVD's paid for them, then wrote and asked me if I would give her a refund of some of the money because she bought 2 of them. What? it was 2 separate listings, and my first inclination is to tell her to bug off....however, I did save $5 on shipping, because I put them both in one box....I will probably cave and give her the $5...some people have some nerve...I get the feeling she would give me a bad rating, and that is not worth it...I have 100% rating and want to keep it that way...ugh...I would have given a break on shipping if she was paying for the shipping, but priority shipping was included in the price of the DVD's plus she could have taken the lower bid, instead of the higher "buy it now" option...I guess it happens..you run into all kinds...It's not the money, but the principal...

Lori, You are getting the worst weather! This winter here in Western NY has been amazing. All the storms just keep missing us for some reason. Not the usual Buffalo weather, although last year was even less snow...How much do you pay for Amazon Prime? I have looked at it but it seems high and I don't know if I would buy enough from them to make it worthwhile...

does anyone else use Amazon Prime?

Off to get ready and do some stuff around here...

WARNING... rant ahead.

DH is a terrible TERRIBLE person to travel with.. I am exhausted. He's a very "in control" person and wants everything smooth and according to plan. sometimes travel, especially air travel, does not fit in his parameters. I used to fly for business a lot. things have changed ( massively) since the 80's and 90's. even since our last flight 1 1/2 yrs ago. the airport ( Sea tac) changed its traffic patterns because like most airports, everything is constantly being changed and updated. but things are marked and I assume it might be different from last time. it was.

last time (almost 2 yrs ago) we had an early morning flight. it was very foggy and dark and we missed the turn into the parking lot I've always used. so we had to u-turn and go back. took all of 5 minutes... amidst a lot of screaming and ranting... when we went back I spotted it right away, realized the new light rail that goes overhead blots out the sign for the parking lot until you are on top of it. in the fog it was barely visible. I was ready to kill him after that, what an awful way to start things off. so I know what it might be like...
this time it was mid day and light out and I knew exactly where I was going although the road access changed somewhat. he's screaming at me that it's on the right hand side and I'm KNOW it's on the left and of course, it's on the left. I had printed a map which he is screaming is 'useless" and so on and so on. so we are there about 4 hours early because for some reason the traffic was incredibly light and we made the potentially awful drive 2-3 hr in record time. good in one way, but a long wait. we had dinner at a nice place inside past security but he can't just settle down and read and is constantly agitating ...
Got into Fresno, got rental car, found way to hotel by about midnight. exhausted.

the next day was pretty intense. my family never does elaborate funerals that his does partly because they're catholic(lots more rituals) and there tends to be a lot more "to-do" about funerals. not my problem, nothing, I'd do myself, but I go along to get along.

I know this was a stressful time for him but he seemed to be yelling at me about something constantly. He grew up in this town and he printed the maps he'd need. I don't know the town and would have printed more if I were going alone but then he was yelling about what street is coming next, and where to turn, and how come I'm not watching the street signs to tell him where to turn, and at the same time looking at the map. I can do one or the other, but not both at the same time, in the dark. with a flashlight. It's not complicated, basically a grid, but I don't have the street names memorized.
on the way back to the airport in the pre dawn darkness another crisis when we missed the airport turn. I said it had to be a left but I was looking down at the map to see if this was the turn and he drove on through the intersection. I realized we'd missed the turn, said to u-turn and go back a few blocks... you'd think we'd driven off the edge of the civlized world. Missing a turn on surface streets is not like missing a freeway interchange where you can't fix things easily! good grief, you turn around and go back, don't you??? Why is that an unmitigated disaster? It's 5 am, and there's not another vehicle in sight?? and then you follow the signs to the rental car return, usually blue, and sometimes not real sensible seeming, but you just follow them unless you know a better way because you use the airport all the time. I've been to this airport... counting this trip... twice, so I follow the damn blue signs and don't have tantrums about it.

and then I had trouble with security both directions... had to get screened twice, patted down somewhat for I don't know why. even our carry-on had to go through twice because of an apple that rolled around ( according to the security person) and caused questions. but it's not the end of the world! my god, I was ready to kill him a dozen times.

Thank you for listening but this was just a little taste of traveling with someone who does not seem to know how to be flexible and go with the flow. He is this way about flying trips especially. Dealing with him and anger and tantrums makes all other travel difficulties seem like minor annoyances.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Supercuts (45:55).

More snow today. Sigh! I guess it will mostly melt over the weekend. I'm with you Lori. Let this be over, and soon. Have fun with your new exercise toy!

Valerie, my sympathies. My DH is a map nut, and he was always trying to find the fastest way to get to the shore in Jersey, so I was always navigating some crazy new route every year, and it just came to be silly. He finally just gave up and we just go the same route everyone else does, and we usually have one major slowdown and just live through it. When we flew out to California for our son's wedding, we had a GPS put in the rental car, and 'she' just told us how to get everywhere. Maybe you should do that with your DH, who sounds explosive. That way he can blow up at the GPS voice when she tells him after he hasn't done what she told him to do, "recalculating."

Deb, I would find that pretty irritating and risk my rating and tell her no. When I sold my 3-disk set of P-57, I received an email asking me if I would send a ball to go with the series, and I said no, it wasn't part of the deal. Who knows when I will want to use my Disney princess ball again?

Next week I will be doing some more vein ablation, so I may have to postpone some of week 10.

Don't forget to set your clocks forward this weekend.

Hi Ladies,

I will be on vacation next week playing with my peanuts. Next week is supposed to be my recovery week from Insanity. I lost a total of 12 pounds so far and will start the program again on March 18th.

Valerie, I know exactly how you feel. My DH is like yours, but I have calmed him down, because when he starts yelling at me, I put a stop to it immediately. I yell back at him. I tell him “I’m not deaf, just blind and that I do not tolerate him screaming at me especially in public”. I also apologize to people that he has been rude to because of him being impatient. I say “I want to apologize for my rude husband” then I just walk away ;)
He wanted to go to Vegas and I told him that I will not be going there with him anymore because he is rude and at times a sore looser. I told him that he can go by himself.

I will try to post when I’m on vacation.

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Good afternoon ladies,

It is a snowy mess here today. We have received over a foot of snow today and it is still coming down hard. Way more than what they predicted. Deb...I think you are not getting any because it has all come this way!

I love Amazon Prime. The cost is an annual fee of $79.00. With this membership you get free 2day shipping on most items or $3.99 for next day regardless of the weight. You can stream movies and you get a book a month for your kindle. I take full advantage with the shipping as I order a ton of stuff from Amazon. My Amex rewards are even linked to my Amazon account. It is a great deal for someone like me. Breaks down to $6.58 a month. I pay NetFlix $7.99 a month and I only can stream movies! Also, Amazon's return policy/customer service is outstanding.

Valerie, sounds like a very stressful few days for you. Some people just do not travel well as all. Please feel free to rant with us girls anytime! Sometimes just typing it out and expressing yourself helps you release so much tension. Glad we are here to listen.

Deb I am with Garance on the person asking for a discount. Some people have so much nerve! Do you think she meant just a discount on the shipping? If this is what she means then I suppose I may be sympathetic but still she knew what she was getting into when she bought both items!

According to UPS bike was delivered and will be there when I get home. I downloaded RIDE a few days ago so I am anxious to try out over the weekend. Tonight I will be doing hardstrikes followed by heavybag. DH is working late and then with his ride in this snow I will have tons of time tonight so I may even build bike this evening.

Have a great afternoon all!

thank you all for listening..
Josie, I can yell back pretty loud but he does this when we're alone in the car. it not being public, I don't think anyone 'gets" it but me. it's just so silly.... I mean, who's keeping track or cares if you miss a turn and have to drive back 2 blocks? you don't even have to walk, you can drive! I try to get it right the first time, but it doesn't shake my faith in the world (or myself) if I miss something I didn't see, or it's not marked well. I traveled enough by myself that it is not that big a deal! call it a "do-over" and move on. we don't have GPS in our car, truck, or in the rental car. neither of us have been favorably impressed in the rural areas. might work fine in cities but too many miscues for us. we bought one but returned it. it was wrong so much it was worthless. we both are more comfortable with maps. but yes, he yelled at the GPS but I still had to listen. ugh.

Congrats on 12 lbs...that's fabulous! I was a little off course during the last 2 days due to limited choices, but back on track today. no exercise possible but will today.
Lynda, good luck with the ablation.. I guess I thought you were done with it. Is this something that will need re-tuning every few years?
Deb, hope the mamm went well. I get sweaty nervous until I get results back from those.

Valerie,

My DH yells at other drivers when we are going places and I have to remind him that the only one listening is me. I also remind him that if he wants to get shot at because he has road rage, then he has to yell and honk at people when he is by himself. He is very impatient!!

JosIe

Lori you are 100% correct... typing it out was stress relief. by the time I got done, I felt 10x better. he will come around in a day or two and apologize for being so hostile but it is hard to listen to at the time when I'm the target. he is impatient and is always angry at other drivers but not to the road rage point. when he gets out of his comfort zone, this happens.

you can take out all your frustrations shoveling snow! lucky you! ( just kidding, shovel away)

I need to look at amazon prime too. I order lots of stuff from them and usually opt for super saver shipping if I can. sometimes small things (not available elsewhere) cost more to ship than they're worth.

I get so annoyed when a product I/we like all of a sudden disappears. I usually say, if I like something, it's the "kiss of death" to marketing the item. I always like unpopular things. never understand the popular ones.

Good morning,

Lovely weekend, it was nice here yesterday, in the forties, sun shining, it feels like spring in the air, (but I know better!). I took Kylee to agility class last night, she is so darned cute. She loves it, but is still a little distracted and wants to play on all the equipment, kind of like a kid in a playground.

Valerie, your DH sounds like mine when travelling, he is more nervous than impatient.. I think it's that we don't travel that much. We got a GPS, and that made a lot of difference...he loves it.

Garance, I caved and told her I would give her a discount.. $5 is no big deal if it keeps her happy. Thanks for the clock reminder....I have to put a note on the kitchen wall or I will forget! Oh, I didn't realize you had more vein ablation to do either, when will you be having it done?

Josie, have fun with the peanuts!

Lori, I saw that you are getting terrible weather again. As for the Ebay person and the discount, I offered free priority shipping on all the items, ( it's about $5 per DVD), but since she bought 2, I only had to send her one box so basically I saved $5 in shipping, which I will give her back as the discount. Whatever. How's the bike?

Nothing earth shattering here....agility class, shop for food, make Keegan's food & treats, make my bread and eggs for the week...yada , yada....

What's anyone else up to?

Good morning ladies!

Great workout last night. I love hardstrikes followed by a heavy bag workout. Feels great to punch that bag!

Bike is all built and I know I will love it. DH worked late so he is sleeping in this morning. I am about to do supercuts then when he is up I am going to try out the bike for a bit.

Not sure what we will be doing this weekend, I am thinking movie and dinner out this evening and relaxing tomorrow.

Josie...have a great vacation and congrats on the 12 lbs!

Got back to posting on WW yesterday, did some shopping and later did Cardio Supersets followed by the Core 1 workout. all working Ok. I really only had 2 days off.

Deb, especially if you order the new series and think you may have some disks to sell, it might be a good thing to give this lady the $5 that was sort of 'found money" for you anyway. she may remember getting a "good deal" and buy from you in the future. maybe there are too many on ebay but most people remember a good deal.

I'd like to have GPS sometimes, though DH got so distrustful that he wouldn't even listen to it anymore. It had everything wrong in Montana. it was completely wrong about the junction of 2 major interstate hwys, a big error. we tried to use it to find a gas station and it directed us 15 miles away while we were standing in a station filling up. I record a trip log while we drive and keep records of useful info, and even my bare bones logs were more complete & accurate than the gps. when we stayed at the rental house near yellowstone 2 months ago, they specifically tell people to follow the written directions and ignore their GPS to find the house,m and it's not in an obscure tricky spot.

In fresno, a gps would have been useful but our car didn't have one. it was a cheap little Kia, but we only ended up driving about 20 miles. we had printed a few maps off google maps( yes, I know that's gps generated) and didn't need a lot of detail.

Lori, the first times I rode the spin bike I wasn't real comfortable. it took a couple sessions to get the settings fine tuned also wrestled with shoes. I had some clip in bike shoes but I could not tolerate them on the spin bike or my road bike. these are the ones I recently sent to Josie. A lot of people love them but I got awful blisters on the underside of my toes. I use plain running shoes and am much happier.

another reminder to not forget to spring forward.
