Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--
This morning I did Ellen Barrett's Barefoot Cardio (48 min.). I like all of my new cardio and plan on using it for several weeks with the Max weight series and BBL or P-57 for legs. What is somewhat surprising for me is that I have rather cooled on my desire to do step. I did like Cathe's Step Moves and Athletic Step and will probably go back to them at some point, but this new stuff is really different and fun.
Went to the second 4-hour session yesterday on retirement. It was somewhat better in terms of the material covered. The Longterm Care Ins. info was really rather depressing and scary. Something I have not wanted to think about until now. Someone 65 or older has a 44% chance of needing nursing home care--51% women, 37% men, because "Men die and women become disabled." A 65-year old or older couple has a 70% probability of 1 entering a nursing home and the average stay is 2.4 years at a cost of over 100,000 dollars per year. 50% of 85 year olds have Alzheimer's and the length of time between diagnosis and death averages at 7 years, with potentially several of those years in a nursing home. At some point the money can run out and then things get really bad for both the person in the nursing home and the spouse. I guess we will have to look into this. A lot of useful info on medicare and social security, annuities and bonds, how to manage my retirement nest egg. I have a couple years to figure all of this out. The staff, however, if they take the college's offer, will be retiring at the end of June so they must quickly do all of this stuff.
Deb, that sounds like a really long day. Even when DH and I were flying off to see my younger son's soccer games for Gettysburg, we would usually stay over a night some place before flying back. Another calf born this morning to Clover. Max adores the piglets, who now have an outdoor pen up in the woods. They also seem delighted with him. Whenever he is in the pen with them, they follow him around like the pied piper.
Hi Josie, so that's where you've been! Whew--sorry about that cold. I remember when my guys were in day care, they were always passing on something new to DH and me. I have not had a cold for well over a year--was just getting over one at Christmas 2008.
Valerie, short growing season is an apt description of New England as well. DH does mostly lettuce, tomatoes, basil, zucchini, broccoli, and squash. I pig out on the tomatoes every year. Hope your knee is okay.
Joan, that's too bad about the babysitting. Hope you enjoy it. Are you going to Vegas on your vacation again?
Hi to Cathy!
