Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/20

Deb, that little character is too funny! we spent the whole hour of yoga this morning trying to get into lotus, THAT position. In my dreams. I'm very tight in the hips, and the prospects for me getting even close to full lotus is remote. but it's fun trying. an amazing number of people can get to it or close. we are not all connected the same. I'm reasonably flexible but not apparently in the hips.

Joan, whichever doctor writes you MIL's prescriptions should be involved. with such recent lab results, her or she should be able to make adjustments over the phone. Leg elevation, support hose, salt restriction and adjustment of her meds.

not sure what we'll do this weekend. maybe cycling. it's supposed to rain but today was supposed to be wet too and it turned out nice.

Fortunately dm kidneys are ok. We have tried lasix before with no results but are trying again. She doesn't use much salt. Her legs are too big for prescription support hose. The lymphedema PT massages legs and then wraps them. You go three times a week and when the legs get smaller then you can get prescription hose. Hopefully we can start with pt soon. She can't lift her legs to get into bed so we have used a recliner. Her legs are just a little above level in the chair. Tuesday the hospital bed comes so we hope elevation helps. Because of her back pain she has not been able to sleep on her back which doesn't help matters. They believe she has sprained her knee and the swelling is making it worse. Not walking of course makes swelling worse.

Good morning,

Lots of dog stuff to do and regular HouseMax this weekend. I have an agility class this morning, DH is going to the Trout Unlimited dinner tonight so I will have time to do the house stuff. Then tomorrow is the all day obedience seminar.

Valerie, have your friend start doing push ups, slowly on her toes every time she does the treadmill, and eventually she will work up to a lot, and those flappy arms will go away. I should practice what I preach! I think you could eventually get into the lotus position, but it takes practice. I used to be able to, don't think I could now.

Garance, still freezing here too, but believe it or not, for some reason our rhododendren has buds on it! It must be confused or something. How did the highlights turn out? do you have light or dark hair?

Joan, my aunt has the same leg problem, and she refuses to walk, although it would be good for her. what will you buy with your winnings?

Off for more coffee....take care.

Joan, I am WAY not qualified to recommend any particular treatment. Hope DM improves. I'm not trying to be nosy but did she have some surgical or radiation procedure causing the lymphedema? Hope she is able to get some relief from the swelling. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that must be, and eventually it causes skin issues besides. the support hose do help but they are hell to get into.

managed to drive to an area to ski saturday, but could not drive high enough and the snow was awful. so retreated and did some outdoor work at home. graveled a road we've been meaning to do for a long time.
