Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/14

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

My new dvds arrived yesterday, so I did Skinny Sculpt this morning (45 min.). Really liked it, and was glad that it was not like Slim Sculpt.

Deb, I wish I could recommend an English Shepherd to you, because Max is an absolutely great dog. BUT, he is high energy and has a lot of territory and tasks to do every day to occupy him. Not sure what he would be like if we were trying to keep him in the city. He is so pooped at night because his days are so full. He is off to the kennel for a couple days while we are in Boston. I have a class from 2:35-3:50 this afternoon, and then we are off to the city. I wonder how many students will show, because this is the last class period before spring break. I had a springer growing up and really loved her disposition.

Valerie, my new restaurant strategy is to tell the waitperson that I just want half of my meal and she can automatically put the other half in a container for me to take home. That way, I am not even tempted to eat the whole thing.

Have a great weekend ladies!

Garance great stategy. When I ask for a box they usually take so long that I nibble on the second half. Even when I ask for the box at the beginning of the meal they give it to you when you're done eating.

Sorry not posting. Maybe someone can copy and paste my reply each day. I'm eating , sleeping and working.

I can't figure out how to make a year's worth of income in 10-11 weeks without working this schedule. I now it's not ideal.

I did walk for 1.5 miles today. That is the first time in a week.

Joan

Edit to add- From what I have read the best age to get LTC ins is 55.

Hi Ladies,

I took 2 days off to spend with my DS and the kids. My DS is going to be deployed again and will be gone for 4 months. The good thing is that his ship is not going to Japan.

The ride that we are doing tomorrow takes about 7-8 hours and that is because we have street traffic and we do make pit stops and stop for lunch. We need to get to Solana beach by 3:00 PM otherwise we get picked up. We then take the train back to Irvine.
The slower riders have to start at 6:45. Last year I took off at 7:30 and made it to Solana with an hour to spare and had my pizza and a glass of wine.

Valerie, are you planting sweet peas the flower or the vegetable? Sweet peas are my favorite flowers. Regarding the ride, my legs are strong and my back has not given me problems while ridding. My left shoulder between my neck and the shoulder is what gives me trouble. I get a bit numb all the way down to my pinky and my ring finger. I was told to stretch better before I ride.

Deb, I’m sorry to hear about the puppies.

Garance, have fun in Boston.

Hi Cathy and Joan!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Good morning!

Normal Saturday stuff here, agility class, then we have a play at 4:00 called " Rock n'Roll". My friend went Thursday night and said it was 3 hours of mind numbing history stuff, not much Rock n Roll. ugh....not looking foward to it. I guess if it really sucks we can leave during the first intermission. Still working on computer woes, trying to install the virus software update on DH's laptop. I want to talk to my guy in Dublin again but he is probably off for the weekend.

Garance, have a great trip!

Valerie, I wish it was warm enough for us to work outside, still in the 40's and that is way too cold for me.

Joan, LOL at your "copy & Paste" posting

Josie, safe biking!

Will check in later....

Went to yoga in the morning, did shopping, got hair done. Put my lettuce starts out on the deck. yes, it's time already. spring is here. I grow lettuce in containers on the deck. easier to pick, doesn't get as dirty, and no slug worries. Nothing like finding a baby slug in your salad to put you off homegrown lettuce. we start lettuce under lights in the basement, so they're a couple inches high already. will spread manure/compost and maybe rototill today, depends on how long #1 task takes. Deb, it's hard, stinky, dirty work, and cooler is better. might be 50 by midday, but 40's are fine for this kind of manual labor.

Josie I LOVE sweetpeas. (We plant flowers and also the snap peas for eating) they grow SO well here and smell wonderful. Cut flowers don't last but plants are so prolific you can pick new ones every day. In fact, that keeps the plants producing flowers. Love the colors too.
That sounds like a terrific ride. we haven't done anything that long in ages but a reward of pizza and wine would keep my legs pumping. Breaking up the ride with breaks and lunch helps a lot with position fatigue for me. How big is the group you're riding with? My birthday is this month & I know I'm getting a new bike jacket, a screaming yellow one. good for visibility. DH loves the one I got him last fall. has zip off sleeves so can work as a vest too.

Got enthused and did disk #4. I was stunned ... did all pushups on my toes. I skipped bootcamp and staggered and did standard toe pushups instead. also increased my weights in several places. I don't know what has happened but I've had a sudden leap in strength. as long as the pushups are broken up a little with other exercises in between, I can do them all. and I'm not sore this morning.

Joan, work hard and try to get in a walk .
Lynda, have a great time in boston.
