Good morning,

Well I am off this morning, leaving for the airport in about 30 minutes....

I will have my iPad and hope to check in here to see what is going on :)

Have a great week,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy and welcome Joni!

This morning I did RK with 1lb. gloves (55:16). I also went snowshoeing yesterday afternoon for a couple hours. It was a beautiful sunny day and the snow was deep and powdery. I love watching Max catapult himself through the snow. I think he does 3 or 4 times as much exercise as DH and I because he just keeps running back and forth.

Deb, I hope you enjoy your little vacation in Florida.

Josie, I think the comfort Sunday main course tonight is a chicken pot pie. Not sure I will get that though, because it might be too much for me with that heavenly pastry crust. I will let you know tomorrow what I get.

Valerie, I will give my review of Nebraska tomorrow. I am going to a matinee at 3 this afternoon. I haven't seen the Butler, but I remember the review in EW being very ambivalent--something about it being a bit too melodramatic at times.

Well, I certainly am enjoying the skating at the Olympics and the snowboard on the slope was really astounding. Anybody else watching this? Last winter Olympics, DH and I really got into curling, so we are also looking forward to that. I think the first US match is against Norway on Wednesday.

Joni, so nice to have a new member. We have been around for about 7 going on 8 years.

Hi to Lori and Judy!

so true about dogs... we may go on a 3 miles hike, but dogs will make it into 10 miles...

I think I was not in the mood for the Butler. so many really good movies about the civil rights struggle, and somehow this one just missed the mark for me. the casting choices were annoying. I like all the people in the movie, just not in THIS movie.

plus, we wanted to watch the Olympics which were starting so we FF'd thru a good part of the movie ending.
we are enjoying the olympics. the kind of "air" and stunts people get in snowboarding astounds me. the ice skating was fantastic. the Russian couple was WONDERFUL. As someone who never even mastered skating backwards, I am amazed at what some people can do on skates. and skis... that kind of speed is mind numbing.

Deb, hope fort Myers is warm and sunny... have fun! get some sun!

ended up taking the day off yesterday. not sure what will get done today but something.

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday I ended up doing Cardio and Weights and today Imax 2 follow up with some heavy bag. Been ages since I did Cardio and Weights. Loved it because the step portions are pretty basic and not dancy at all. Took chester for a walk also yesterday and today and he did well. Would never know his leg was bothering him.

Welcome Joni! I am 52 years old and live about an hour Northwest from Boston. Like you I have been working out with Cathe forever. I joined this group a year or so ago and these girls are very motivating and supportive. :D. I have one son and he is in college so right now my DH and I are empty nesters and enjoying it!

Josie...wow...4.5 mile hill! That is amazing. Great job.

Deb...enjoy the warm weather! Would love to be anywhere warm right now.

Lynda...we have a local restaurant that Bob and I love and one of their specialties is chicken pot pie and I order it all the time. Lol! Enjoy the dinner and the movie.

Valerie...I have not watched the Olympics at all yet. Hoping to have some time to watch some tonight. The conditions in Sochi sounds horrible. The stories I have been hearing.

Hi to Judy!!!!!

Hi from sunny Florida !

A nice break for sure,

Today I did Walk Fit 45 minutes.

The hotel is great and because I am a Starwood member, they upgraded me to a suite at the same discounted price that the others are paying. I could entertain in here! Full kitchen, washer & dryer etc...It's crazy for one person but hey, doesn't happen every day right?

Off to get some breakfast then meeting for about 4 hours then we are on our own for the rest of the day. May go see some local sites after lunch.

Take care,

Josie I really love xc skiing. I prefer making my own tracks in fresh snow. machine set tracks at most resorts or groomed areas are too wide. I'm short, barely 5'3. I get sore knees when I try to ski in them, but it's probably best to learn at a place like that so you can see if you like the activity. just like any other exercise, I modify an activity if it hurts! DH and I have skied thousands of miles but mostly by setting our own tracks.

I did treadmill for 35, the Ab portion of Flextraining, and 60 knee pushups.

Grandmajoni, I'm 65 retired for a long time. I wrestle with the weight issue too but am fairly stable. I managed to slowly lose about 15 pounds over the last few years. some on my own, more recently with weight watchers which I'm on right now. I have to work very hard and be very hungry to lose. just an unfortunate fact, wish it were otherwise. DH retired a few months ago. we do a lot of outdoor sports together like biking, mt biking, skiing, hiking. we have a truck camper and hope to travel more, locally and mostly in the west. I've used Cathe workouts for years, run on a treadmill. I can't look back at the other thread right now, but Olympia area? Hope you didn't get stuck in the snow storm that messed up Portland and parts of WA. wow. what a mess.

watching the Olympics ... my favorite. we delayed a vacation when we realized we'd miss the last several days if we left over Presidents day weekend. I don't care about professional sports much... watched a bit of the Seahawks just because the noise level got so high it was easier to watch than try to block it out! we are recording olympics and watching the next day. unfortunately it's impossible not to see the results posted online so it takes away a little of the fun in watching when the outcome is already familiar.

Deb, what a nice thing to get upgraded. sounds like a nice place. and great you could get in a workout. makes travel smoother if you have some space and can do what you're used to doing.

Hi Ladies,

Today is a rest day for me. I went to my hard core class yesterday with my friend Claudia.
I'm glad I had made plans to meet and workout otherwise I would ha stayed in bed.

Deb, it sounds like you are going to have a nice time in Florida. I love getting upgraded :)

Lori, from now until the actual ride we will be doing hill training to prepare us for the 545 miles.

Hi to Joni, Garance, Valerie and Judy!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Joni--

This morning I did LLA (48:33).

I loved Nebraska. I thought it might be rather sad and pathetic. Woody Grant (played by Bruce Dern) is an elderly man who believes he has won a million dollars from something like Publishers Clearing House because he has received a letter in the mail, which actually says "IF you have the winning number." He sets out on foot from Billings, Montana, to get to Lincoln, Nebraska to claim his prize and the police keep picking him up and bringing him home to his exasperated wife, who appeals to her sons to help her persuade him to give up this fool's errand. The younger son David, played very sympathetically by Will Forte, finally relents and agrees to take him to Lincoln. They are slowed down by Woody, who seems to be somewhat senile as well as a heavy drinker, when he falls and is hospitalized. They end up in Woody's home town over the weekend with a host of relatives who believe in Woody's good fortune, but are also greedy for a share in the wealth. What might be a depressing film is saved by the humor and the director's (Alexander Payne who also wrote and directed The Descendants and Sideways) fondness for his characters. I found myself laughing a lot because the characters look a lot like the couple in the painting "American Gothic" and there is something grotesquely familiar about their homespun blandness. Woody's wife is admirably clear-eyed, foul-mouthed, and hilarious. I loved Payne's depiction of Nebraska in black and white and the utter bleakness of some of the landscapes. I won't tell you about the ending, except to say it fulfills something that develops over the course of the film between Woody and David. Wonderful film--and I would put it right up there with 12 Years a Slave as one of the best films I saw this past year. Definitely an A.

MMMMM--had a great dinner last night. DH had the chicken pot pie, and I think it would be called a deconstructed pot pie because the pastry was a shell on top of the chicken and vegetable mixture. I had to have the mussels, which were in a spicy marinara sauce with cilantro and jalapenos. Best. mussels. ever! I also had the chicken tacos carnitas, but I brought home one of them because I was too full from those mussels. DH had a big spinach salad and carrot cake. My usual Manhattan, Josie.

Joni, I'm a retired Professor of English, Women's Studies, and Film Studies--67 now, after retiring almost 2 years ago from Williams College in Massachusetts. My husband is a farmer, and I have two grown sons, one in California, another in Boston. The oldest is married, but no grandchildren.

Deb, hope you are enjoying the warm weather in Florida. This winter just won't go away.

Lori, I loved Cardio and Weights too. Very easy choreo.

Curling tonight! USA vs. Norway.

Hi Ladies,

If you receive another request from me for a donation to the ALC please disregarded. The e-mail went out in error.

Good morning,

Today I did Travel Fit 50 minutes. This was is deceiving, it looks easier than it is, and I know I will have doms tomorrow due to working with the band .

Nice weather here, as anything over 30 degrees is nice!

Valerie, DH and I have CC skis, and used to ski in a park that is about a mile from our house, but we have not done it for many years, It's such good exercise and at least gives the snow a purpose :).

Josie, is the Hard Core class the Body Pump one? I always thought those looked good, got the DVD's (Les Mills) and ended up selling them on Ebay because their format was so repetitive, it got boring really fast. I bet a live class is a lot of fun.

Garance, I probably would have "caved" and gotten the chicken pot pie...good for you for making a better choice!

Another half day today. Yesterday we went to see the Edison-Ford winter estates, Also, Edison's actual laboratory was there (one of them anyway). A very interesting tour.

Hi to Judy, Lori, and Joni,

Take care,

Did Burn sets ch,ba,sh plus core 1. Like that one a lot. goes fast. yoga this morning.

Deb, it's so nice you have time to get workouts in on this trip. that would make traveling so much less stressful.

made pad thai with tofu for dinner last night, the WW version. it was quite good , even though I need to back off the hot sauce for DH's sake. it was supposed to have prawns in it but that would drive DH out of the house.
gosh, mussels. I am not a big shellfish fan though they are fresh and available here. I haven't had mussels in a long time and maybe should try again if I have an opportunity. I dislike oysters, crab, and clams but mussels? I had them a long time ago and was so-so on them, but maybe the preparation was the issue. I'm sure they weren't in a spicy marinara sauce which sounds good. I don't have an incentive to try them at home since DH is pretty dead set against anything "fishy". the whole sushi thing went by me. anyone who has taken parasitology in school likely won't be eating sushi.
ETA had to leave for class... back again. I wish I could DH to try salmon. we can get such lovely salmon here but I usually save it for restaurants since he pitches a fit if he has to smell it cooking. He has a WAY more sensitive palate than I do.... I love hot spicy things. he can't eat things like that at all. even salsa... he wants mild . I try to settle for medium but it's too hot for him. subtle things I can't taste and never could. so many things I make with minor seasoning, and add red peppers or srihacha to my portion only. we have some appointments today so will probably go out for lunch... I need to have a snack like an apple so I'm not TOO hungry.

Hi Ladies,

I will be taking the body pump class later on today and then coming home to clean the cabinets which I been meaning to do for a while.

Deb, the hard core class is like cardio and wights DVD and the body pump class is all weights sort of like muscle max and muscle endurance. The instructors change it up so it does not get boring.

I will check back later.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Joni--

This morning I did PRS #1 (52:28).

Gosh it's cold here today. When will winter subside a little?

Deb, it sounds like you are having a very nice vacation and getting in some workouts at the same time. The Westminster dog show is on tonight if you aren't too busy with your colleagues.

I love sushi, lobster, all types of fish, mussels, but I'm not too enthused by clams on their own, but very good in chowder, and love a good crab cake. I also love smoked salmon with my NY bagel and a schmear of cream cheese. My younger son keeps telling me to try oysters Rockefeller, but I don't like their looks. Maybe in March when we go to Legal Seafood in Boston he will get me to try one of his. What I am squeamish about is stuff like calves' liver, sweetbreads, tripe, brains, tongue.

Lori, so glad Chester is back to his usual energetic self. Nothing like some good meds!

ttfn

Garance,

I'm with you on all the seafood you posted. I also love the smoked salmon with the NY bagel and the schmear ;). I also add tomato, red onion and lots of capers and I actually had this on Sunday after my workout. The only thing I did not have was the mimosa to go with it.

Josie

Good evening ladies,

This morning I did the Triple Tabata pre mix from CrossFire. 28 minutes and perfect for my morning workout. The plan was P90x ch,sh and tris tonight but received some sad news. My cousin passed away today. She had been suffering from ALS for the past year. It is very sad. She is the first from my generation so this makes it all the harder for us kids. The funeral will be a difficult one.
So needless to say I do not feel like working out and opted for a glass of wine with DH.

I am not much of a seafood person either. Like you Lynda I love crab cakes and will not eat clams. If I do eat any fish it needs to be fried and with lots of ketchup! I know I know..my DH cracks up when we go out for seafood. And yes it is so cold here too. I am really starting to hate it. 6 to 12 inches of snow coming here on Thursday. Ugh.

I love Travel Fit and only do it when I travel to keep it fresh. And yes it is TOUGH! My arms burn when I am done. Good for you Deb getting upgraded. i love when that happens.

Ok...have a good night ladies. I am going back to my glass of wine. :(

Guess I'm not alone on the seafood issue. Lori I love fried fish with Heinz cocktail sauce but almost never ever have it. I can't face oysters or clams. When I was young I tried everything. the texture did me in. makes me think of raw eggs. clams made me imagine bits of bicycle tire. oh well...
I always hated liver... used to be a WW requirement back in the late 70's for some reason. I lied and said I ate it but didn't. I think I have only a few functioning taste buds and that's why I like very bold flavors. I focus on food textures and can get turned off pretty easily by animal body parts.

Lunch today was a Asian chicken salad with the dressing on the side. still working WW.
just yoga today, we had some financial appts today and too late to work out now.
Lori so sorry about your cousin... such a terrible affliction to have, and nothing much to be done.

Travel fit... Lori & Deb how much room do you need to do it? I've thought about an upper body workout I could use traveling in the camper. I do NOT want to haul weights along but if it's mostly band work, I could work that in. the lower body gets plenty of work on our trips but upper.... not much. I feel like I work arms/chest/shoulders and then 2 weeks of traveling and all the hard work goes away.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did bis and tris from Xtrain (45 min.).

Deb, I don't know if you watched the Westminster Dog Show last night, but Sky, the wire fox terrier won. I'm sure Kylee and Keegan would be very proud. Are you still enjoying the warm sun of Florida? It was 10 below here when I woke. Hope you aren't depending on the Atlanta airport to get home. It looks like a terrible mess to the south.

Lori, so sorry about your loss. ALS has always struck me as such a terrible disease. When one of our Biology professors found out that he had it, he decided he didn't want to go through all of its stages and yes, he took his own life.

Pairs figure skating tonight.

Stay warm!

Hi all,

Lori, sorry for your loss.

The banquet is tonight, then home tomorrow, I am looking forward to it, but not work on Friday.

Take care,
