Morning all,

I did about 32 minutes of Athletic Training from LIS series this morning and thought I would die. I am so out of shape, and this was with modifications. Well, you gotta start somewhere I guess.

Valerie, I have not even pre-viewed the barre workout yet., but remember what P-57 was like and I know how hard it is. At least you can get through it.

I still have my weekly cooking to do today, spelt bread, hard boiled eggs and cranberry protein bars. Most other stuff on the list is done. We bought a new Shop Vac yesterday so may use it in the basement.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Take care,

Deb, none of the workouts are easy, but I expect a challenge from Cathe. just modify as needed or pause for an extra few seconds. I think the S&G one is probably the easiest, but it depends on how comfortable you feel on disks. even if you are "in shape" but do something different from usual, it feels hard, so don't beat yourself up. that's why "variety" and "change" work so well. Pat yourself on the back and do something different today. the barre workout is muscle and positionally fatiguing but not cardio. you can do parts of it, rest, and then continue. some isn't hard, few sections very tough. I do what I can, and move on. I especially like the ab part starting with the crunches and sub this in instead of Coremax which I was getting tired of.

this is not a superbowl household either. rather have another colonoscopy than sit thru that. Speaking of cspy, insurance sent back a rebill statement showing I owe zero. but now DH got billed for his screening labs that went with his "100% covered" annual physical, so back to the telephone. I think they purposely "bill" assuming people don't know what their policy covers, and a big % will pay it rather than take time to argue it.

yesterday did 2 miles on the treadmill, and then took a couple hour walk up and down hill in a state park, right by salt water, some on a beach. DH,me, woman he works with, who is very pregnant. she is in good shape but doesn't want to do anything "too much" at this point. It was a gorgeous lovely day, warm and sunny and so clear. mountains snow covered in the distance were gorgeous. she stayed for dinner after. her husband is in the navy, she will be moving to FL in a little more than a month, his next duty station. we'll miss her. she is fun to be with, and a good doctor to boot. DH enjoys exchanging ideas with her and will miss her professionally too. She is originally from Romania but will be staying here in the US.
today we will do a bike street ride. Not as warm as what Josie ( envy envy) is enjoying but for Feb here, I'm not complaining.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and any later posters--

This morning I did Turbo Barre (74 min.).

Deb, AT is probably the most anaerobic workout for me for the first 25 min., but I really have improved a lot on this one, so try to keep it up. Things slow down after the first half is over and she moves into conditioning, and the conditioning on this one is so original and varied that I really like it. Valerie is right--pat yourself on the back and try to get back in the habit.

Well, this is definitely a Superbowl household. I made Nigella Lawson's chili (it has some chocolate in it which gives it a really rich mole like flavorand she uses both shin beef and sausage), and I made a new apple cobbler with cheddar cheese biscuits on top. I am also making buffalo wings (I bet you get great ones Deb!) and our guests are bringing two salads. Other assorted things. I skipped lunch today, because I know this will be a calorie rich meal. I'm not much of a football fan, but I do enjoy the commercials, and I am curious about whether Madonna will wow us or fall flat.

Gosh, I read Josie's post about the incident with the car door. I do hope the fellow has learned his lesson, but he sounds like he might want to hurt someone just for the hell of it. If he loses his job, I suspect he might get even uglier the next time.

Back from our ride, took about 2 1/4 hours. about 22 miles. not that hard but wearing way more stuff than we're used to. wind block tights, hat, ear band, helmet, helmet cover. Feels a little like when you were a little kid and your mother dressed you up in a snow suit, mittens etc, and then you could barely move. street riding is faster than mt biking and the wind does a number on temp. it was cooler than yesterday about 45 so not ridiculous.

Deb, I go to the chapters menu and do the exercise right before abs, some kind of side crunch, seems like it's connected to abs for me. I'd guess 10 minutes? possibly 15. not that long.

linda, the jerk might take out his frustrations on the next person who crosses his path, like the next cyclist. anyone who'd knowingly open a door to knock someone into traffic, or just knock them over, is a threat already. I don't think there's a good way to deal with them, just hope they grow up before they really injure or kill someone else.

Have a good superbowl party!

Hi all,

Not much new here. I did Cardio Coach #3 this morning, got up around 3:40am with Kylee and I figured I might as well get a workout in.

No class tonight, ( yay!), not sure which one I am going to take with Kylee. She's not ready for the advanced class, and it starts at 8:30 pm. I can't see myself going to that and not getting home until 10.

John actually took his bike for a spin yesterday, it was bright and sunny but very cold, probably around 37 degrees. He said it was brisk. That's for sure.

Loving this winter,

Take care,

Good morning,

Still busy working. I have only been walking again. I can feel myself getting bigger.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

We enjoyed our Superbowl party, but dh was upset by the last few minutes, of course, because the Pats lost. On the other hand, our Giants fan was really delighted and tried not to gloat. I must say, that final touchdown was rather ridiculous--he just sat down in the end zone. I thought Madonna was crazy terrific and the Cleopatra outfit a hoot. The commercials were not all that great, although the fat dog one who decides to start working out and dieting after gazing at himself in the mirror was funny and reminded me of us.

Off to teach Hamlet!

Hi Ladies,

I did the 53 mile ride on Saturday. It was hard and hilly but a beautiful route and the air was so clean and crisp. On Sunday, I went spinning and the instructor tried to kill us because it was Super Bowl Sunday and said that she knew that we were going to over eat.

I have decided to take off on Monday and Friday for my rest days. So I will be cooking tonight for the next 3 days. That way I can just re-heat our dinner and not have to worry about what to fix for dinner every night.

Work has been a bit stressful due to one of our co-workers that is paranoid and thinks that all off us are trying to attack her and get her fired. She is just crazy and I just wanted to slap her after our staff meeting last Friday. I wish I could just retire tomorrow :(
Josie

Good morning,

I did the Leg Cardio Express pre-mix from Athletic Training. Most of the workout is the step portion and then those damn firewalker bands. OUchie.

Joan, I know how you feel. I have gained back a lot of the 18 pounds I lost, You will get there, it's hard and you have not had an easy time with other issues. BTW, how have your eyes been?

Garance, I watched most of the Superbowl commercials on line. I liked the one with the Great Dane and the cat, although I heard that the animal rights people are all up in arms about it.

Josie, I hear ya, retiring sounds like heaven. Office work places are nerve racking sometimes. I have worked with some of the same people for almost 40 years. Sometimes you just want to scream. It's mostly the age differences that bother people, different generations, different values etc.

Valerie, what's up?

Time to shower and get breakfast ready,

Have a great day!

Planned to ski or snowshoe yesterday but when we drove up to the mts we found roads icy, rutted, unable to get up to any trailheads we wanted. so we came home and did yardmax. it was a lovely day very spring like with things coming up and buds swelling. it's looking like spring is on time in contrast to last year when it rained and snowed until june.

my poor aunt is really coming apart and driving her sons crazy in the process. she has to be moved from the assisted living facility to a "more care" place, but not a nursing home. but before they will take her she has to be cured of the staph infection she has. she was treated for the staph, and then got a yeast infection and now the staph is back. so she will by cycling back and forth. when it reaches this point some kind of expedited death would be the best choice. she is miserable, will never get any better, her sons are burned out. she is blind and deaf and just sits in her chair waiting to die. I know there's no reasonable legal solution here but it's cruel and pointless. So how's that for an uplifting start for a tuesday??

we haven't seen any of the commercials yet, saw a few minutes of the madonna show while we were loading up a DVD. she looked good!

Josie, 53 miles is terrific. I really have issues getting much over 35. padded shorts or not, I get sore and can't wait to get off.

I cannot do any kind of step but I like all band work.... it's hard, but a 'good" hard for me whereas the step stuff is just frustration. good thing there are choices. gotta get ready for yoga, back later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did S & G (52 min.).

Wow, Josie, that's quite a ride! I'm very impressed. I'm looking forward to retirement immensely, and I don't really have any difficult co-workers to deal with on a regular basis. Nice thing about being a professor is that I am pretty much on my own much of the time.

Deb, the dog ad with the Volkswagen is my favorite animal ad. The one with the Great Dane is funny, but maybe not to cat lovers.

Valerie, that sounds very sad about your aunt. I guess the only option would be to learn braille for her, but it's probably too late. I think Helen Keller was both blind and deaf (?). Does she speak? Maybe at this new facility they will have someone willing to work with her therapeutically.

My aunt can pretty speak well, and with her hearing aid can follow things Ok "in person". she can't hear and see well enough to listen to radio, TV, read, etc. she can converse, but not many people come to see her, and there's less and less to talk about.... except for her health problems, which are numerous. she doesn't ever get any "distraction" from them.

when she first got to assisted living they tried to get her involved with physical therapy and some activities / groups but she never followed through and now it's too late. initially she had some friends but not any more. a couple people died, a few moved, and she didn't make any new ones. it is an awful lesson about what the future might hold.

so I did my yoga class. later ran 2 miles on the treadmill and then GS chest triceps. my shoulder is not getting better or worse so I'm going to see what happens with weights if I don't push too hard and just go moderate. I did OK with some toe pushups, most knees, 15 lbs for most presses and flys, 8 for most of the rest. it's what I did previously and I feel like it went OK.

Good morning all,

Got up at 4:00 and did Cardio Coach #4. Probably one of my favorites CC's. Count down to the weekend and my trip. Leaving 3 patients behind worries me. But I am a worry wort so it's not surprising.

Ok, who is going to pre-order the 2 new workouts? I would pre-order because of the price, I want to see if either one is mostly step, if so, I won't pre-order. I like the step in Athletic Training, basic and it gets the job done. So many workouts to choose from, it gets overwhelming at times, trying to decide which one to do. I haven't even done all of the ones from the LIS series yet. These new ones will have modifications, I guess Cathe is "throwing in the towel" and finally going to have someone show them? It was hard to tell from her announcement. She said she would be back after her DR apt to answer questions, but I didn't see her come back.
Valerie, it is sad about your aunt. When I visit my aunt in the assisted living place she is in, I feel awful seeing those people ( she is in a memory care facility), and just hope I die before I get to that stage.

Garance, you are retiring after this semester right? I envy you! I was going to retire at the end of November this year, but may go to July of 2013, has to do with the timing of our bonus payout which we get in July.

Off to eat, shower and get ready for another day.

That's where my aunt is headed, a memory care facility. first needs to be "cured" of the staph infection , then they will take her. I know she needs more attention and help than she can get in assisted living. dismal.

I'm not convinced I need more workouts. probably won't. I'll wait and see what the focus is, but after LIS, I don't think I need more. I don't use what I already have often enough to get sick of any of them. going back to the GS series now and thinking about repeating STS. I have soreness from the chest/ triceps yesterday, nothing bad, just know I used some muscles that haven't been getting reg use.

Retirement is nice but I got "retired" long before I planned to. probably different if it's your choice. I could not find anything to 'fit' and didn't want to work retail or something.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Athletic Training (56 min.).

Yep, I went for the presale because they are described as another After Burn and another Athletic Training, two of my favorites from LIS. I also used the pre30 code to buy High Reps, which then meant I would get free shipping. I hope I haven't made a mistake, but I have been so pleased with LIS that I decided to go for it.

Yes, I am retiring at the end of this semester, and I am really looking forward to a life after grading. That's my one most-hated task. One of the reasons it has become progressively more difficult is that grade inflation almost makes the evaluation process absurd.

So, Deb, now you regard K, K, and DH as patients? They do seem to have had their share of medical issues this past year. Just remember that worrying doesn't do any good and try to enjoy your little vacation from nursing them.

Valerie, you are reminding me that I should recycle some of my workouts. I tend to get into a rut and just repeat myself ad nauseam until I finally get really, really bored. So far that hasn't been the case with LIS.

Good morning!

Got up and did STS Total Body Upper Body pre-mix. It felt good to do a real upper body workout, always my favorite. The stuff in the LIS series is really focused on lower body, with the disks and all. Anyway, had a good workout.

Did anyone see any more info on the new workouts? Cathe has not answered any questions in all the threads, ( and they are on all the forums it seems). I suspect she may be on Facebook posting information. Not fair to all of us that are "Facebok Free". I just want to know if either of them is centered around a step workout. If so, I won't order.

Garance, yep, "K" , "K" and "J" are my resident patients. I am the "Mommy Nurse" around here. Giving meds constantly, worrying about cracked heads etc. John gets the staples out today. Can I really leave here for 5 days and trust all will be ok? LOL. I guess I will have to.

Hi to Josie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

I'm up getting ready to go to yoga.
I did cyclemax yesterday. Josie I need some advice! I find the posture difficult. DH said I look like the people in the DVD ( posture wise, that is) but it feels uncomfortable. there's a lot of up and down and I can't claim to have done it all, but probably 90%. I never ever stand up when I street ride so maybe this is just something you get used to? I seem to have a cadence of max 80-85 regardless of the tension. my legs won't go faster. standing, they slow down to 60-70. I don't have number settings on my bike for tension either so I'm not sure how to interpret the number she mentions like 3, 5, 8.

in the morning we bought the DW. I wasn't sure about where I wanted to buy it, but then Lowe's had an extra 10% off. that will mostly cover the install cost, so ordered it there. ended up with a price of $899, not top or bottom of the line, upper middle. current DW is leaking (intermittently) but deteriorating again on getting things clean. so it's time. not putting more money into the old one.

Good work again Deb. I am feeling the effects of skipping upper body for a while. I think it was the flys, got some sore spots. I didn't see more details about the new workouts either. I totally missed what you meant about your 'patients". they will do fine, enjoy your trip! I am on fb but seldom use it. just don't see the usefulness so far. seems like a lot of people are like me, officially on it, but never use it.

Linda I liked High Reps but haven't done it for a while. so many disks, not enough time to do them all often enough to remember the details. i've heard stories about grade inflation.. how does that work when everyone expects to get an "A"?

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.). A short workout for a long work day. Another candidate for this 2 year position. Two classes, an interview, a presentation, and then a meeting for me. Blech!

Deb, I think there is actually quite a bit of upper body, especially in Athletic Training and After Burn, and if you count all the work in plank position in these workouts, I feel like overall, I get pretty worked out. I think one of the new workouts will be like AT--on and off the step, but the step in AT is super-easy, just a lot of repeaters of various kinds.

Valerie, that's the problem--everyone expects at least a B+--and unfortunately, no one wants to be the ogre who tells the truth and gets a poor student evaluation. Especially untenured faculty, who desperately want to keep their teaching scores up. So many pressures to be accessible, supportive, etc.

Off to class--teaching The Bell Jar.

Hi Ladies,

I will be doing a hard core class and then spinning. I will not be riding this weekend because I will be going to Fresno to visit my grandkids. The 4 year old has called me twice this week to ask me if I can pick him up on Saturday and the older one keeps telling me that he misses me. So, I will be leaving tomorrow morning so that I can get in time to pick up Mickey from school. They don’t know that I’m coming 

Valerie, I also don’t stand up much whey I street ride and my cadence also drops because I do not want to hurt my knees, this is only when I stand up using position 2, but when I stand up on position 3, then it is a different story I can really go fast.
Regarding the tension, it is the amount of turns on the knob from the very beginning. You and I have very strong legs, so for us it would be more like 5,8,11 or more.

Deb, go on your trip and enjoy. Your DH will manage ;)

Hi to Joan and Cathy!
