Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/28

Today I did Cathe Live Step Express with Blasts. 41 minutes, 299 calories. I then did Cardio Strength Blast 43 minutes, 313 calories. I omitted the overhead stuff with the weights, like squat press and during the last part with the deadlifts I did deadlifts with bicep curls and no push ups. I used the rebounder for some of the jumping stuff. Total time was 84 minutes, calories burned 612.

Deb, no that combo I did from Lean Legs and Abs is not a premix. I just go to the chapters and start at chair/firewalker and it moves through the rest of it. It will even go to he bonus work after the stretch it you wanted to. I have used this a lot to avoid the upper lower combos at the start. Particularly if I do legs and abs and great glutes together. I really don't get the car letting me lock the door with the keys in even with the engine running it really should not let me leave the keys in and lock it. It only has 5000 miles on it. I had to take it in recently for some adjustment that would cause problems later on. I hope they didn't mess something up when resetting stuff.

Valerie, I refused to get ATT Uverse phone because when my husband was out of country we had a terrible storm and the power was out for several days. I didn't know that the battery back up to it only lasted 4 hours. I was alone with no phone service and no cell phone when it ran out. My family couldn't get to me because the phone lines were down in the road. It was frightening because my part of my fence went to oz or something. Things were blown all over. It was not called a tornado but they had another name for it.

Lynda, I will have to try one of the sweat workouts tomorrow :)

Good morning & Happy Friday!

Yesterday I did Live Push Pull. Wow....this one is nothing like the DVD. Really tough, gets in there, and gets it done! :). The core work at the end is not my favorite...she has you flipping over and back at warp speed....I felt like a flap jack in a pan. LOL...:).

Valerie, accents from around the US always fascinate me. I swear I don't have one, but my SIL in Seattle says I do, and with John living here for over 40 years, she says he definitely sounds like he is from "Back East" ...whatever that means. LOL. The funny thing is, I think she has one too! Did you find a rack that may work better?

Lynda, I liked that Giant set workout as well. I do any Burpes using my Firm Step...the wooden 14" one...just go down to the step level, put my hands on the sides and do any Burpees or Mountain climbers from there....I feel like I still get something from them, and I can keep up with Cathe & crew. Glad the toy is still good and Max is enjoying it.

Diane Sue, great workouts! Where do you get the stamina? that storm sounds really scary, and not to have phone service would make it even more scarier. Did you end up getting the ICE DVD's?

Lori, hope your trip is going well.

Hi to Josie & Judy,

I think I will do a Cardio Coach workout today on the treadmill.

Anyone have anything fun planned for the weekend?

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

No workout yesterday as it was a travel day for me. Madeline looks great is is doing well and responding to treatment. She is going for a Pet Scan today to see exactly how things are. We will have the results on Tuesday. No one expected her to do as well as she is even her doctor! Very happy about this.

It is 6:30am and everyone is sleeping. I am having coffee right now and thinking about Live Rock it Sock it. I brought 1lb hand weights, bands and ankle weights with me so I have some nice choices of what I can do. At some point going to try doing CLX burn 3 using bands so I can get in all the scheduled workouts for this week. My family cracks up that I do this!

Deb...cardio core circuit is another favorite of mine and I do the Standing Abs section a lot as an add on to a workout. I have not done the Push Pull workout yet. But will check it out.

Lynda..I use Retin A too. I use the 1% which is the strongest. Had to work up to it but glad I stuck in out. My skin looks really great with few lines. Been using it for about 10 years now. Most people are suprised to learn I will be turning 55. My dermatologist first prescribed it to help fade a couple of large dark patches that developed. Never stopped using it after that. I do not mind burpees at all...but despise mountain climbers.

Diane Sue...yeah another Live user! Glad you like the spread sheets. If you or anyone else here would prefer to have the excel sheet so you can add your own comments (I know Deb might) let me know and I will email it to you. Send me your email and will send when I return from Charlotte. I have done Lower Body Burn and enjoyed it. the low impact crush is a favorite. I agree with Deb ...you have stamina!!

Valerie...surprised they gave your DH retin a. Hmmm maybe things have changed. My DH's skin is so sensitive and has to be very careful with what he uses. Massachusetts has so many different accents. I talk completely different than most people I work with with a stronger Boston Accent. I am also known as the Voice of the company which is hysterical. I am the voice you hear when you call our main office and also for most of our restaurants that now have an auto attendant. I really have to practice my diction before I record. :)

Hi to Judy and Josie!!

Getting ready to go do Step Sweat. I need to get out by 10 to hit Sprouts. Traffic and parking is terrible there at certain times and it is not real close. I checked last night and the new one that will be right around the corner opens May 25 :)

Deb, no, I didn't get ice yet. I just subscribed to Cathe Live since we upgraded our Internet service. I am glad push pull is a lot different. When my shoulder finishes recovering I will look forward to trying it. I like the way Autumn uses the bench on her forearms for planks and the mountain climber type moves in Chisel Abs. That would be simolar to what you are doing. It is better on my wrists.

Good Morning Everyone,

This morning I have my annual physical. DH came home sick with the flu yesterday so he is going to the doctor too. He was up most of the night coughing and he feels terrible. I think he got it from someone at work.

Yesterday I did Core Max and a 1 hour Spinerval. Spinervals now has a streaming service like Cathe. They are also doing a weekly live workout on Tuesday evenings. I watched it last week and I'm going to do it this week. They use "Go To Meeting" software for the class and you can use a webcam so everyone can see you and you can see everyone else.

Tomorrow we have appointments for eye exams. There is a small stamp show in Dearborn that we were planning on going to. Hopefully DH will be feeling better.

Lori-that is wonderful that Madeline is doing so well! That's great that you are working out while traveling. I plan on bringing bands, tubing & weighted gloves along the next time I travel.

Deb-you are doing great with the Live workouts! I plan on doing more of them too. I printed the list and went back through my workout logs to see which ones I've done. I started out doing them every week, back in 2014 when it started, then I dropped off.

Diane Sue-that storm sounds horrible! What a frightening experience. Was it a straight line wind? That can be almost as bad as a tornado.
Great workouts as usual!

Lynda- I've had issues with streaming when the weather was bad or it was windy. I always have a backup plan with dvds but most of the time the streaming works fine.

Valerie-DH was born in Philadelphia and his family lived in NJ until he was 17. When we first met I thought he had a Philly accent but I don't notice it as much now. I was born in the Quad Cities (western Illinois, eastern Iowa) and lived there until I was 45. I found some "Iowa Accent Challenge" videos on youtube and this one sounds the most like me:

Hi to Josie!

Judy

Hi everyone--

This morning I did 80s cardio with low impact blasts (48 min.). Fun and thank goodness for a few breaks. Reminds me a bit of MIC but less impact for sure.

Deb, thanks for that link. The police investigation was pretty much screwed up from the start I guess. Reminds me of the OJ case, except he didn't get convicted, while Avery gets life in prison despite the bad police work.

OMG, Valerie--I couldn't watch more than 5 min. of the debate last night. It was just trading insults. One of the women pundits on Morning Joe this morning (I think her name is Katty Kay and she frequently does the BBC reporting on PBS), when asked what she thought, just said, with a posh British accent, "Yesterday was very phallic." Cracked me up.

Lori, that is such good news on your friend, Madeline. My younger son does a pretty good Boston accent. He thinks there is a lot of variation in the city. I have pretty much lost my Minnesota accent, but I think I fall back into it when I visit my friends there.

Judy, I hope you don't catch whatever your DH has! If it's the flu and not some 24 hour bug, it could definitely last awhile. So now we know what you sound like.

Diane Sue, great workouts! Looks like you are really enjoying Live Cathe!

Hi to Josie!

we were supposed to go on a hike this morning but I didn't. I had to drive DH back from the car dealer yesterday ( truck needed servicing) and then back later to pick it up. It's only 15 -20miles. he is a awful terrible passenger. He is a constant unremitting nag... I don't drive in a way that suits him. everything I do is wrong and he is very vocal about it. he doesn't like anything from where I put my sunglasses to my speed, the lane, the radio. you- name- it, it's criticized. I'm a decent driver and I usually try not to drive with him in the car. If I could strap him to the roof rack it would be better So that is my VENT for the day.
my bike probably won't be back until next week. the shift mechanism needs to be replaced.

Judy that is fascinating. I don't have a regional accent anymore ( I don't think anyway) but sometimes words or expressions are particular to an area. every time someone says something is "up their alley' I think "midwest'. putting "the" in front of a freeway number ( traffic is jammed up on "the 405") is common to California although it is spreading quickly. I can hear "northeast" from a mile away. I don't think I could separate out different eastern accents though.

I've never even tried retin A. anything that increases cell surface turnover is supposed to irritate rosacea so I never experimented. It is so nice to have it calmed down and invisible, I don't want to take a chance on aggravating it. I stick with the mild sunscreen in my foundation and use a hat or limit exposure. I'm not a beach or water person anyway.

Deb, no luck on another rack. we already have what's available. we will add some padding and try to see what might have happened when I get my bike back. it's just weird... the lever that got damaged should have been protected underneath the padded bumper.

Today I did Cardio Sweat Live and 13 minutes of Step On It starting a bit into it because I had to work with the Bluetooth monitor and ending starting with combo 3. That is all I had time for. The lunch crowd was showing up at Sprouts (grocery) right after I got there. They get lunch from the deli and wait in lines to check out. This was 55 minutes and 412 calories. I really liked what I did. It was so tempting to keep going with Step on It. I have my granddaughter 8, coming over later. I will be taking her to her American Heritage Girls dance badge get together. Her parents have an out of town wedding to go to. I always enjoy when they come and stay :D

Lori, that is good that Madeline is doing well. Praying the results are good Tuesday. It was always nice when we had our fifth wheel when we travelled. I kept weights and bands under the seats in the kitchen area. I had quite a bit of room to workout when we put out the pop out.
Thanks, I would love to have you send me the spreadsheets. Thanks.

Judy, one of my granddaughters was sick with 102 fever and coughing. At first they thought it was the flu, my daughter even got some Tamiflu for her but, it ended up being RSV. My youngest grandchild had it and a lot of my daughter's daycare group. She put in her newsletter for the parents not to medicate the children just before they bring them so that it wears off midday and they expose the rest of the children. One of the hard things about doing daycare is that the parents really need to go to work and try to explain symptoms as allergies etc.. Then all of the children soon have the same symptoms. She separates them and calls the parents if they start coughing and running a fever. I always dread the yearly physical. I still have to go in for the mammogram. I have to wait till my shoulder is ready for it. I usually get the digital imaging added even though insurance won't pay. Too much cancer in my family background and I had a hysterectomy 32 years ago for cancer. I make myself go in no matter what.
I don't know if it was straight wind or not. I had hanging plants on the patio and they were blowing straight out toward our large window. I was so sure they were going to fly through it but thankfully they hung on. We had that and shortly after we had a tornado go through. I knew there were chances and ran the grandchildren the 14 miles to my daughter's house since she had a shelter. I went home because I didn't want to leave my vehicle on the street. I ended up in the neighbor's shelter. It took out a neighborhood around a small lake. They had to drag the lake for a little girl. After that I talked to my husband who was out of country and I had a shelter put in. We had our roof replaced twice in a very short time.

Lynda, I thought that workout might be fun. I was getting so annoyed listening to the debate, I kept telling them to stop!! It doesn't help when the questioner seems to be pushing their buttons so to speak. I am looking forward to doing some of the total body live workouts eventually. I guess when we watch the debates we need to "just breathe" :)

Valerie, LOL you would probably not want to hear him when you unstrapped him. My husband doesn't like to ride with me and it stresses me out driving with him as the passenger. I usually have him drive home after I follow him to the dealership. I have heard that Beauty Counter has some really good natural makeup colored with fruits and stuff along with nice sounding ingredients.. I think the sunscreen is titanium dioxide. I am considering trying it because I have such a hard time with a lot of the types of sunscreens added to products. Even Bare Minerals Powder sunscreen had caused me problems.

the "Terrible Passenger" has returned and we made peace. in the meantime I did 20 on the treadmill, 15 elliptical, x train bis & tris, and core 1. I do good workouts when I get ticked off!

Lori that is so good that you just bring your workout gear along with you. and hope Madeline continues to do well. such a big range to how well people do.
Lynda, we decided we would only get furious if we tried to watch the debate, but then we couldn't find the Fox channel that was carrying it anyway! so it was probably for the best. I was cheering Mitt Romney on! some very true and damning words but I don't see it making much difference.

Diane sue I couldn't stand the threat of tornadoes, even in Wisconsin, which is not as prone to them as where you are.had many sleepless nights worrying about them, and when I could move elsewhere, I did. Maybe it's common to have husbands get all weird about someone else driving. I don't much like his driving sometimes either, but I read so I don't need to watch. I think my foundation has titanium dioxide. or it did. I haven't read the fine print in a while. there was some fuss a few years ago where they didn't want companies to rate it as well as some of the chemical sunscreens but it always worked well for me.

DH has the flu :( The doctor gave him Tamiflu and cough syrup with codeine. I've never seen him this sick before.

Judy, I am sorry your husband has the flu. It can really hit hard. I hope the Tamiflu helps him get over it quickly.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did a Cardio Coach workout on the treadmill.

Lori, that's great news about Madeline! Good prayers and thoughts for the results on Tuesday. How do you cast Live when you travel? All this talk about Retin A....I need to get back to using mine. I only used it at night, and I keep forgetting to do it. I have been using Hydraulic acid and I like the results a lot. There is no redness or dryness to get through, and I use it every day under moisturizer/sunscreen. It doesn't fade brown spots though, so back to the Retin A at night for me. I also would like the spreadsheet when you get back etc.

Diane Sue, I will try using the bench for mountain climbers etc...thanks for the tip! So one of your daughter's runs a day care group? Is Beauty Counter an on line source? Glad you are liking the Live workouts....I really want to try the one she did this week....Metabolic Mash Up....looked good in the clip.

Judy, hope all went well with your physical. Sorry your DH has the flu, hope he feels better soon. Is he coughing a lot? John still has some of that cold he had, but is about 75% better. At least the cough has mostly gone. Thanks for the YouTube link....honestly, if that is how you sound, it is pretty much like people here....I did not pick up on an accent. I went to YouTube and started listening to the Buffalo ones...pretty funny...one guy was hamming it up so badly, you could tell it wasn't his real way of speaking. I always tease John on some of the words he uses differently....like he says "tennis shoes" vs. "sneakers", and "dark glasses" vs. "sun glasses".

Lynda, speaking of screwed up investigations......did you see the latest...someone found a knive supposedly on the old OJ property....that they think may have been used in the OJ murders...??? what?

Valerie, LOL...too funny on strapping your DH to the roof of the car....:). John is like a traffic cop when he drives...points out all the other drivers that are going to fast, etc. Drives me nuts. As for the expressions you mentioned, those are big around this area....like putting a "the" in front of the highway number. We do that a lot....Not sure what your bike was hitting on the rack...if a round part...pipe insulation may work. Just slit it and wrap around the piece....

Hi to Josie,

A rest day for me today, except Agility class with Keegan this morning,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Good morning ladies!

Fun day yesterday. One of my family members bday was yesterday so we celebrated by going out for lunch then cake afterwards. Beforehand I did do Rock it Live. Half way through I was going to pass out. the house was way to warm for me to workout. My basement is set for 60 degrees and that is perfect for me. I ened up going put side to finish. Was in the 30's but it felt so much better and the way you move in Rock it I still continued to sweat!

Judy...again I hope your husdand is feeling better soon. I am sure you are making a great nurse for him. I tried the link but it did not work. I'll try again after I post.

Deb...I sign in to Madeline's wifi and workout with my Ipad. A lot smaller than my TV but I am used to using just my Ipad when I travel. I also use my Bose bluetooth headphones to not disturb anyone. Today's workout will be SB. I have already selected a few targets to string together. I can't wait to try out the new Metabolic from Thursday. I agree it looked great! Unbelievable about the knife. I heard that yesterday.

Valerie...when I fly they always flag my bag because of my hand weights. I always try and do carry on only so I go thru this all the time. Now at least I either take them when I remember to or at the very least I put them in the smaller of my two bags so it only takes a second for security to go thru if I forget to take them out (which is most times). My DH is never happy with me when I forget to take them out! This time I traveled with my DS and he has more patience with me. :p My DH and I drive well together until i have to give him directions. Then things can get ugly fast

Diane Sue...very happy to hear 32 years later and all is good with you. That is wonderful. A short workoit is always better than no workout. I sometimes fit in what I can and feel good that I did!

Lynda...I think I did the 80's cardio but can't remember if I liked it or not!!! Will need to look at it again.

Hi to Josie!!!

Hi everyone--

Housemax for me this morning.

Judy, I hope the flu isn't too debilitating for your husband. I read somewhere that the flu shot was 59% effective this year compared to only 25% effective last year. Let's hope you don't catch it!!

Deb, I heard something about that knife too, but it was confusing--in the possession of a deceased retired policeman or something. Weird that it should be discovered now while the OJ trial show is on.

Diane Sue, good luck on your annual physical. I'm sure if there is family history it becomes an ordeal to face every year. I had a hysterectomy by laparoscopy when I was 57, but it was because of a grapefruit sized fibroid that was causing excessive bleeding. I was seriously anemic for a few years.

Valerie, that was the standing joke in Gail Collins pieces when Mitt Romney was running for President. He strapped his golden retriever to the car roof on some family vacation and Collins would get it in her column by hook or crook every week. My DH thinks I am a super careful driver and sometimes makes fun of me because I often miss him waving to me when I drive past him in his truck. I just keep my eyes on the road. Your husband, quite frankly, sounds like a jerk. I probably would have pulled over and told him to drive if he was going to nag like that.

Lori, I can't imagine getting through TSA with dumbbells in my suitcase. How heavy are they??

Today I did Live Long Strong Legs, 49 minutes , 300 calories. I still have my granddaughter here. We are getting ready to leave in a bit.

Deb, my daughter was a teacher till my grandson now 21 months was born. She decided she wanted to be able to enjoy her time with this one. Probably her last. The other two are 15 and 8. She is really good at it. She wanted me to come and work for her but I really didn't want to worry about the drive to her City when weather is bad. She has to turn people away a lot.

Lori, I have a separate air and heat unit upstairs for my workouts and during the winter months I keep it at 64. Summer it is terribly hot.

Lynda, I wish they had had the methods of surgery that they have now. I have a scar up the middle of my abdominal area. I hate it. Enjoy house max :) I do mine when dh goes to work at 10:30 at night on weekends and put on the music.

Ha ...funny about the Romney's dog strapped to the roof... I just saw a political joke with an elephant in netting strapped to the roof of an airplane with "Trump" across the side. I laughed my butt off about all the dog jokes Collins wriggled into her columns. Yes, DH is a bit of a jerk sometimes, but he's MY jerk!! Mostly we get along well, but I don't like his driving and he doesn't like mine. some things will never change. I've tried to relieve myself of the giving directions job but he doesn't like the electronic directions either. sometimes, you just can't win. we both do best with paper maps... a real generation gap there between paper and electronics.

went on a hike this morning 2 hrs 20 min. fair amount of up and down, but nothing with big mileage. surprisingly pleasant out and a surprise since the forecast was pretty marginal. windy and raining early, and then it cleared off, warmed up, and off we went.

Diane sue best of luck on the physical. I have no reason to be nervous but I don't like them either. My workout room is in a daylight basement and is usually cool...around 60.
Judy, hope you don't get the flu also.
Lori dumbbells!!. I'm surprised TSA doesn't pitch a fit and make you leave them behind. After all, they could be used as weapons!. I used to do large medical equipment installation and used to take a Wonderbar (crowbar) with me in my luggage but they stopped letting me do it. I was just trying to protect my nails. I've taken different stretchy bands with me before but never dumbbells.
