Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/27

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Squeeze (56 min.).

I saw that coupon offer, but I'm just not interested. I'm having enough trouble getting back to STS. I just plain hate all the equipment Cathe's weight workouts seem to need.

DS, fiancee, her mom, aunt and uncle and two nephews will be here this weekend. Big family dinner out on Saturday night at Mezze's. The usual Housemax tomorrow for me and watching Apocalypse Now! for class next week.

Welcome back, Valerie! No fake meat for us, I'm afraid, even if it tastes good. DH would regard it as insulting. He can't even stand the ammonia smell to store-bought chicken--which I cannot smell, but I ain't going to argue.

Have a great weekend, ladies!

Hi Ladies,

Happy Friday! This weekend I will be ridding my bike. It is supposed to be in the 70's and no rain expected. I will probably ride 40 miles, I need to build up for a century that I signed up for in April. I do not know what the workout for today is, so I will come back later and report. All the workouts this week have been hard, so I know that today will be another killer.

Josie

Just to clarify, black bean burgers aren't "fake" meat. they have beans and corn and I don't know what else. similar to a garden burger but much spicier. I'm not a fan of fake meat either. texture thing.

Wow, Lynda, a houseful. but a nice dinner out takes some of the pressure off. Haven't seen that movie for a while. I was never a huge fan of Brando, in any movies. who else was in it martin sheen?( charlie really looks like his father) robert duvall? larry fishburne?

DH is nagging me to restart STS. I might. I have a month before we go on a longer vacation, so there is a natural break after meso 1. will be 11 day trip. California... visit niece in sacramento, then in-laws in fresno. FIL is going downhill quickly so I need to check plane schedules in case he goes sooner. he has so much wrong with him, though he doesn't see to be in pain. at least not yet. he is at home and has refused to go into any care facility so it's very hard on those taking care of him.

Josie, that sounds wonderful! we will be riding when we go next month. taking our mt bikes, will rent road bikes.

Deb, that is just what happens to me. I get too wound up, can't sleep, and end up feeling like garbage for the entire next day. DH and I always ( when we can) leave social events early because neither of us can sleep decently if we get too much past our normal bedtime. I can't sleep in later in the morning, I still wake up early and can't sleep more. I'd blame it on age but I had much the same issue even when I was young.

just to end this week up, I did Lower Body Blast. I did it ALL although I have coordination issues in the warm up part. stuff on the step, anything involving turning gets me messed up but I just keep doing "something". I like the paper plate moves in there. I even did all the floor work this time with maybe a very few "breathers" for the pizza press moves. It's hard but definitely do-able. even the warm up I will eventually get although it's not that important.

Hi all,
picklewave.gif

the usual Saturday routine today, HouseMax, plus Keegan's agility class. Slept like a rock last night, only woke up once I think for about a second. With about 3- 4 hours the night before, it makes sense. I did take a benadryl though, just in case.

Garance, I agree 100% on the equipment for Cathe workouts, my workout area needs a complete overhaul. I just couldn't pass up the discounted price. It sounds like you are in store for a great dinner, with the chef that loves to give you all kinds of tasty things. MMMmmmmm..

Josie, I bet you have no trouble doing the 40 miles, with all the stuff you have been doing lately.

Valerie, I understand what Garance is saying about "fake meat". I know these aren't fake meat, but my DH would never eat it either. He won't even buy them for me, most likely, I will have to look for them myself. He gave me a hard time about the almond milk, and when he finally agreed to look for it when he went to the store, he ended up calling me from there because there were 3 types, and he wanted to make sure he got the right one. Well, I told him to get the "original" not knowing that it was sweetened. That was not the one I wanted, but didn't realize it until I decided to take a sip, ugh, it was so sweet it almost made be gag. I went to the info for my Diet plan, and she says, "almond milk, unsweetened". It figures. I will have to go get the right one myself, since it was me that screwed up.. Good for you for being able to get through LBB. Out of all, it looked like the hardest to me.

Hi to Joan, ( buried under all those returns);) and Cathy,

Take care,

sorry for the misfire on the almond milk. the one I get is Blue Diamond brand "vanilla" flavor. the other brand ( refrigerated, dairy case) is Silk. At least in the grocery I shop at! It has a slight pleasant sweetness but not SWEET. the second ingredient is filtered cane juice so it's not "plain" but I need slight sweetness of I can't get oatmeal down. It is 90 cal per cup, quite rich and thick compared to nonfat dairy milk. there's a "richer" one and a less rich one that's 60 cal a cup. but I only use maybe 1/3 cup, so not a big difference. to complicate it further, there are several other brands and some come in the shelf stable packaging while this one is in the dairy case next to cows milk. I like nonfat milk too, but this has much more flavor and seems a little indulgent without a major calorie blast and makes oatmeal tastier without adding a ton of sweetener. Stores out here have it in half gallon cartons, I'm thinking around $3.
I haven't tried the shelf stable ones usually on the shelf in the natural foods section. Pacific is one brand. there's usually soy milk, rice milk and almond milk. and of course those come in a variety of 'levels" of richness and flavors, plain , vanilla, chocolate, and who knows what else. so don't beat up DH too much, it's confusing! I liked this one right away, calories reasonable, and readily available so I haven't tried a bunch of others. the other issue is often brand names differ regionally, but I think Blue Diamond and Silk are national.

the bean burgers are pretty tasty. they are good on a bun because they aren't terminally bland. my DH thinks they're too spicy. we like different heat levels!

I didn't buy anything.. enough workouts to last til I'm 110. I don't mind the equipment as long as I know what I need and can get things set up... don't like fiddling during a workout. I whipped thru LBB in good time. I like this one! even the floor work ( that I usually hate) goes quickly and feels like it's working the right parts.... for me the butt/ upper leg junction. I didn't time it but it's close to an hour.

Valerie , thanks for the links. It is the same one I got, only I should have told DH to get the original unsweetened. I see in the non-refrigerated one, it has "soy lecithin"...I try to stay away from all things "soy" so I'll stick with the one you have to refrigerate. It has lecithin, but without the soy.
