Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/24

Hi Ladies,

Today’s workout was Max Cardio Conditioning. I like this one a lot because it is a continuous workout with different exercises done for one minute each for a total 45 minutes including warm up, stretching and cool down.

Deb, once I finish the Insanity rotation one more time I will be doing a rotation that I found on Youtube. It is called Fit90 and the workouts are only 35-36 minutes each.
Check it out. It is a 90 day rotation. Very little equipment used.

Valerie, my condolences to you and your DH. I’m glad that you MIL is resting in peace.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Low Impact Challenge (50 min.) to replace Tabatacise.

Deb, that rotation Josie mentioned might be perfect for you, since I know you like shorter workouts. I did look at the new DWTS celebrities. Andy Dick???! That could get very scary very fast. He has been arrested several times for various disturbances, among them public nudity. I didn't watch much of it last time, and probably won't this time either. My new favorite shows are Nashville and on HBO, Enlightened with Laura Dern.

OOH, Lori, nothing more debilitating than a 24 hour bug. Hits you like a ton of bricks and leaves you pale. At least it's not the big flu.

Valerie, my condolences as well. How is your DH weathering the loss? You might want to put Enlightened in your netflix queue. It's really excellent.

Lori, if you both got it at the same time, could it be something you ate? just wondering...hope you are back to normal today.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts. DH is having more trouble with this than he did with his father. his mom was always really nice to him even when he was a awful, terrible teenager. I liked her a lot too though we didn't seem them too often. DH talked to her a lot in the last yea, especially the last few months, but I mostly stayed out of it. mostly treatment related and I didn't want to get in on that. we saw her last in November.

Lynda, I'll stick that on the queue if it's available. we're watching Homeland right now but only one season available, and almost done. It's enjoyable so far. I like Laura Dern so that's a good first step.

I too, thought I posted here yesteday but apparently not. Strange.

Today I did a new walking download called Walk Fit. I guess it was ok...it was done by a woman who I guess worked for a bit with Sean from Cardio Coach...it sounded like she ripped off a lot of his music.

Valerie, so sorry about your MIL...but as others have said, she is now at peace and out of pain.

Josie, I pre-ordered the new series, and will sell the Spinning one to you. I looked on You Tube for those workouts...saw a couple of clips...is it a woman with an Australian or British accent?

Lori, I hope you feel better...I agree with Valerie, it does sound like it was something the two of you ate.

Garance, did you pre-order?... Valerie may want your Spinning DVD!..no pressure or anything LOL

Hi Deb.. yeah, I thought I posted ... disappeared.

just speculating Lori, but when two people come down with the same GI thing at the same time, food is a suspect. like if you both ate at the same restaurant, or both had a salad for dinner using the same ingredients... nothing for sure, but usually you won't get it simultaneously unless you were both exposed at the same time. does make you appreciate more than one bathroom.....

I looked at the new series. I'm quite sure all I want is pedal Power. Hoping the hype doesn't get to me later on! it did the last time. but i sure don't want step, and I have enough leg workouts. so Lynda or Lori, if you decide to order, I'd buy the spin disk from you if that is okay. If you decide against ordering or don't want to sell it, I'll order the disk as a single. the presale will go on for a long time so no rush here.

Now the difficulty is getting my flight right. DH had a canceled flight and rebooked.. the credit which he was promised is not coming through..... some kind of glitch in the system. we wanted to use the credit toward my flight so it isn't "lost money". Alaska air owes us $185 that we will need to use toward another flight in the next year, and this would have been it. everything is done electronically. it doesn't sound like anyone knows what to do. so I booked my flight without the credit, since I NEED to be on that flight and it's getting close to tuesday. besides, I thought the ticket price would go up today being friday, and sure enough, it did. RT ticket went up $120. so not the end of the world but annoying.

I have really been sticking to WW and am getting frustrated. no loss since the first two pounds. I have the worst metabolism. it does not respond to anything. I'm hungry a lot but have been following their recommendations for snacking. still hungry a lot. that is the biggest annoyance. most people lose weight on this plan and they don't need to exercise, at all. they recommend exercise but I should be losing without doing a thing. and I'm not. just holding steady. the family fat gene at work.

Only did an ab workout yesterday. It was a busy day with a lot of unfinished things hanging around, and I did a lot of hiking and biking this week.

This morning I did Supercuts (46 min.). NOW I have completed the first 8 weeks of the undulating rotation, just not in order.

Deb, DH beat me to it on the pre-order. I was exercising this morning and he came in from his computer and said he pre-ordered for me. He did this last time too when I kept saying "maybe I shouldn't" after I hurt my knee. I think he grew tired of my indecision. I will have to check with him to see if he pre-ordered the bundle with the spinning dvd. He didn't last time, so probably not. I wish Cathe would have a modifier (do I sound like a broken record??).I will be going to see a ballet company from Montreal at Mass MOCA on Sunday, followed by Comfort Sunday dinner at Mezze's. Tomorrow I will be going to see a film which is supposed to be influenced by Hitchcock: Side Effects.

Valerie, I would be frustrated, too, if I did all of the hiking, biking, and exercising you do and still no luck on WW. Is there any chance that you have a thyroid problem?

Hi Ladies,

I did the Max Recovery DVD this morning. Tomorrow I will be doing the Max Interval Circuit and on Sunday I will be going to sculpt class and doing the fit test for the Insanity program.

My DH and I will probably go out to dinner tonight or tomorrow. Since I have been getting up at 5 every morning to workout, on Friday I just want to crash and go to bed early.

Valerie, it seems that your body is holding on to every calorie. It is on starvation mode.
Maybe you should eat more? You exercise more than normal people, so your body must need more fuel.

Lori, hope you and your DH are feeling better today.

Hi ladies!

We are feeling so much better! Thank you all for your well wishes. I hope I never have to go thru something like that again. My abs still hurt that is how violent it was. I agree it had to have been something we ate. We tried back tracking but still could not figure it out. Oh well!

Ending up leaving work at 11:30 and when I got home just slept all afternoon and stayed in bed until this morning. I am at work now and still have no plans to workout tonight since I am still weak. Tomorrow if I am feeling better I will just pick up on my rotation where I left off.

I did order the presale today with the downloads as I like the idea of using the workout blender. I have never used the workout blender and excited to do so. Have any of you tried it out?

Valerie, if Garance's husband did not order the spin I would be glad to sell you mine as I have ordered the download and most likely will be using that in its place. Waiting for my Amex statement to come in this month (any day now!) Using my points to buy a spin bike. I decided to just do it and stop thinking about it. Going to stick it in our bedroom next to our eliptical. What the heck is one more piece of equipment right?

Garance, I think it is wonderful that your DH places these orders for you! So nice of him.

Morning all,

We went out for breakfast, and I ate too much! Lots of calories to put in MFP. I will need to cut down the rest of the day for sure.

Valerie, airlines can be the most annoying thing today....never simple to book or "heaven help us" do something like you were trying to do and use a credit etc. I have to say Southwest is probably the best that I have come across. I just booked a flight for John to go see his sister, used our points and he got a free flight. They are still allowing 2 checked bags for free too. Nice. We have the Southwest credit card, so combined with that and the flights I take for work, we get a decent amount of points to use. It's very simple to book it too. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I'm starting to wonder if Josie isn't right...maybe you are not eating enough...what is your daily calorie count? with the workouts you do, you could certainly eat more I bet.

Lori, have never used the workout blender...only have the Travel Fit download. I like the pre-mixes so much that I think trying to put them together myself using the downloads may be frustrating. There is a person in the forums ( maybe Jann?) that is really good with all that stuff. Their forum board here on it isn't too bad either for instructions.

Garance, I will join you again in the wish FOR A MODIFIER in the workouts with high impact. What is so hard about that? One thing that surely stands out in the KCM workouts over Cathe's. Maybe when Cathe gets older and can no longer jump around like she does?


Agility class, then HouseMax for me the rest of the weekend basically.
Lots of laundry to do, etc etc.

Yes, my body holds onto every calorie, always has. If I eat more, I'll gain. been proved to me time and time again. If I'm not hungry, I'm not stable, I'm gaining. I'm due for a physical in a month and will get labs. they're always normal. DH groans because they are so "normal", he'd love to have my numbers. still,there are differences in how people utilize calories. I have the "thrifty gene", where all is absorbed, and weight loss is not easy. It's nice to know I'd survive a famine when everyone else wastes away!

WW doesn't count calories, just WW points. I have 26 points in a day plus some extra weekly points and also activity points. I try to stay close to the 26 and am ignoring the extra points. guessing it's around 1500- 1600 a day.

I'm trying to change the balance to more protein/vegies/fruits, fewer carbs from grain to see if that swings the balance. I've been adhering to program consistently but it's not geared (IMO) to vegetarians. if I need to eat more chicken and fish until I lose, then so be it. My weight has been stable. I should be able to add carbs and "hold" once I lose 10 lbs. if I start gaining then I'll know what to do. I tried on clothes I haven't worn in years. they were loose, so even if I haven't lost scale weight, I'm smaller. I have slowly lost ( over years, in steps) about 16 lbs from a memorable high point. I was not there long, and have stepped down slowly over several years.

Deb, we're flying to fresno.... marginal air service. going thru LAX or SFO does not work well on a tight schedule. the only way there ( reasonably )is Alaska Air. we'll nag them about the credit if it doesn't show up, which it has not. when a person did these things it wasn't so hard. now everyone just says it's issued electronically and doesn't seem to know how to adjust anything.

Lynda so sweet that DH ordered for you! I'll buy the spin disk from either you or Lori if you're sure you don't want it. I don't think the pricing is very good for ordering single disks.
Lori, glad you're over the bug. that was always a hard but effective way to lose weight. the spin bike doesn't hog that much space. I like it because it's a no impact way to work up a sweat.

This morning I did Chest, Back, and Shoulders (53:51).

I didn't see a new thread for this week, so maybe Deb decided to sleep in and get some much-needed zzzzzz. I agree with Deb about Southwest airlines, but sometimes they don't fly to where I need to go, unfortunately.

I'm not sure if it's sweet of DH, or if he doesn't want to hear me being indecisive. He thinks I should be a Libra, because I always want a little of this and a little of that, or I weigh decisions interminably, choosing colors or tiles or anything for the house. Hopeless!

Off to the ballet this afternoon, then out to dinner.

Valerie, I also think it's just getting harder and harder to lose weight as we grow older, so you have both the gene for starvation, and the double whammy of post-menopausal metabolism.
