good morning. going off to do garden supply shopping this morning. back later.

we are too far north here to get adequate sunshine for vitamin D production during fall, winter, spring. I'm outside a lot but have always been diligent with sunscreen on my face. that's all that's in the sun much of the year. vitamin D is recommended here . D has the potential to accumulate , so I watch the dosage and don't take more than recommended. .
not making great progress on WW. lost 3 pounds, 1 lb came back, and then went away again this week. my body fat does not willingly leave the area. I am following plan (purple) and actually under my allowed points on a few days, but I go over on big exercise days so hopefully I can trust the system to work. I don't do cheat days. no restaurant meals. I was having a snack mid morning of avocado toast but cut that. I tried a WW recipe yesterday for quinoa for dinner but we both got hungry in the middle of the night. didn't eat anything but usually I have to be hungry before I lose anything. makes me wonder if I can maintain if I ever reach goal. this is the same goal Ive always had, what I weighed much of my adult life. I want to be about 10 lbs less than now so I would like to think there is not a huge difference in what will be maintenance calories. I am down about 10 or 12 pounds from my (briefly) peak weight and that has not been hard to maintain.

Deb hope you are around. you haven't mentioned your doggies lately.

This morning I did Element Yoga for Relaxation with Tamal Dodge. It was 39 minutes and 52 calories burned. This was a nice slow practice, similar to Yin Yoga but he didn’t hold the poses as long.

Valerie, I’m sorry that your dinner wasn’t filling. It is recommended that you bulk up your meals with vegetables, which is something that I always do. I don’t know the recipe that you used, but if I didn’t have good vegetable side dishes I wouldn’t be satisfied either. This was from a few weeks ago: ”choose right for you portion sizes, based on what you usually eat”. That really stuck in my mind because we are all different. Each person has to find what works for them within the guidelines. Our leader often reminds us that we should also eat foods that are not on the zero list and to not be afraid to use some of your weekly points if you need to do so. You should not be hungry! As far as maintenance goes, behaviors are the the same as those for weight loss. I have a few more daily points, but it’s not very different for me.

Diane Sue, I’m sure that you are having a great family day. Those cakes sound delicious.

Hello to Judy and Deb.

Carolyn the recipe worked OK. I felt full in the evening but was awake at midnight and I was hungry. I needed a heavier hand with seasoning, and the corn, although not a supersweet variety, tasted very sweet. I used quinoa instead of bulger and put some salsa on top, and hot red peppers on my portion. we ate less than half last night. I'm grilling some chicken to go with it tonight. I had a green side salad. I thought the avocado would help it "stick" longer but it didn't. I know quinoa is a complete protein, but IMO this needs some chicken, piece of fish, egg to make it a dinner. maybe a robust side dish. DH doesn't like queso fresco or feta, so I used a little cheddar instead. theres another Mexican cheese I think would be better ... similar to feta.
My weight has been stable for a long time, plus/minus only a few pounds so stable, just a bit above what I want it to be. I think I can stay there after I get there. so many people lose so successfully and regain it all and I dont want to be there.
I havent had a g. chocolate cake in decades. I used to love that stuff. only made it for company to control the portions.

This morning I did LiTE Body Weight and Bands for 43 minutes and 200 calories burned. My average heart rate was 111 and maximum heart rate was 137. I also did the LiTE Extended Stretch #2. That was 10 minutes and 29 calories burned.

Deb, I saw your post from this morning on last week’s thread. I’m sorry about Kylee’s medical issues. I hope a new medication will help. I am not doing the February rotation this time. I’m doing a version of LiTE and Step Boss.

Valerie, the German Chocolate cake and other super indulgent sweets are things that I make when we have company. When there are two or three young men around as well as other family members here I don’t worry about overeating. Nothing lasts for long!

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Deb I also saw your post. I started the thread this week and for some reason I cant get the "bold" onto the thread title. so sorry Kylee is having problems again but it sounds like you are on it.

Carolyn, that was always my strategy for over-the-top desserts.....have one piece, and give the leftovers to guests. we are running out of family so I don't make those desserts any more. DH can still polish off leftovers but I make less caloric things.
I added a piece of grilled chicken to the Mexican Quinoa with roasted sweet potatoes on the side. It worked better. I still am only so-so on the recipe. I don't think it works as a main dish that well, and I have better quinoa salads in my file already.
I did Stacked upper body and the abs workout yesterday. not sure about today yet. Carolyn, do you track weight and ab workouts on WW? the points seem very skimpy.

Valerie, I just looked at the activity points that I got for today’s workout. I have 7 points for weights and 1 point for the abs. When I did Stacked Sets Lower Body last week I had 6 activity points for the 35 minutes. My Fitbit syncs with the WW app and the points are automatically entered from that. I think that when you enter manually it’s more of an average since the app doesn’t have your heart rate and calories burned.

Carolyn I enter my points by looking up what I did on WW. I got 6 points for stacked upper and 1 for the abs. I work pretty hard during weight workouts though I know its possible to do them with less energy. I think the ab workouts are more effort too. I can live with it, just feel weights are undervalued in the system.

Deb-I'm so sorry that Kylee has been having problems. It sounds like you caught it right away. I hope she is better soon.

We had family birthdays yesterday. I ate German chocolate cake and ice cream and hardly slept last night. I was still awake at 2 this morning. Tried to read and used my fitbit relax app. So, I am dragging today. I did Coffey Fit Raw Box & Pump 3 lower, 59 minutes, heart rate 121/168, 260 calories, 3,971 steps. I tried moving my fit bit up higher on my arm, about 2 and a half inches and tightening it. I am not sure that made much difference. I used a 35# barbell, 15# dumbbells for medium, and 12# for light except for good mornings which I used 10# like Kelly. I finished off with Jane Adams yoga for relief from desk work, 19 minutes, 18 calories, Total time was77 minutes, 278 calories.
I went to the store and picked up some Tahini, garbanzo beans, and pumpkin seeds. I have a friend who is having shoulder replacement surgery and her doctor gave her a recipe for a drink to drink before and after surgery for fast healing. It is a mixture of greens, 1/4 cup garbanzo beans, 1/8 tsp turmeric, coconut water, tahini, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and date sugar. She says she doesn't see a reason for the date sugar nutrition wise and it does not taste good. I am posting this from memory. Anyway I made a salad today and put garbanzo beans, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts on top. It was good. I want to find a tahini dressing to use on it. I printed up one, but it has maple syrup in it. I really don't necessarily want it sweet. Anyway I thought those sounded like healthy ingredients to put together somehow. I like coconut water for iced lattes and iced matcha drinks.

Deb, I am sorry that Kylee is having problems. That is good that whatever they saw moved. My dog Mudd had some urinary problem for while. I did not realize till I kept thinking there was an awful odor around her crate. Apparently she was having accidents while sleeping. I kept having to bathe her and wash her bedding. When we went to the vet he just said it was part of aging and she was incontinent. I thought that was odd because she managed to let me know to go outside during the day. He gave her some type of med and it went away and never came back. He seemed to think she would have to stay on meds. I really think it was something else. I hope you can get it figured out. Kelly's website is still there. You can print workout sheets for weight workouts, purchase dvds and downloads there and there are rotations. I go there for her streaming on my laptop, but I have her new app on my phone and tablet as well as Fire TV for the Raw workouts and her 30 MTF workouts that are on her streaming. I don't think she has put up what the new workouts will be yet. It is in the working and planning stage.

Valerie, I only make the German Chocolate cake for family and husband on his birthday and father's day. Twice a year and I generally eat a piece. He bought the pecans from someone at work that has pecan trees and I use unsweetened coconut in the frosting. With all of the sugar already in it I see no reason for sweetened coconut. I hope that you can lose the weight and maintain. I don't think vegetables are all that filling even if you eat tons of them. Oatmeal is not that filling for me. Some days I put some RX Maple Almond butter that has egg white and a date in it in my oatmeal and then use macadamia milk. I think it makes it stick with me longer. Otherwise I want to eat a protein bar with the oatmeal then that gets me through a few hours.

Carolyn, your calories with the stretch is more what I believe my yoga and stretching should be. That stretch today for 19 minutes was only 18 calories. I realize I am in a chair a lot, but seriously, that is like doing nothing. I read some tips on Fit Bit last night, but so far not working. Nice workout today. It has been awhile since I did that one. I think while I was doing PT I did it a couple of times.

I just finished Step Boss I Max 4 with the extended chair stretch, 60 minutes, heart rateaverage 112/max 161,242 calories, 4,189 steps. I spent a lot of time messing with my Fit Bit. The app updated this morning and I swear it is worse. When I was finishing up with the warm up, which is not a light warm up, it said my heart rate was 61. Then when I started into the workout during the first blast I was in the 70's. I kept moving it around and finally put it on my dominant wrist and it was a little better, but not great. I checked using met 6.20 instead of Cathe's met 7.20 and calories would have been 329 for my weight etc.. This seems more correct to me, but I just keep using what the watch says. I was hoping the update woud help. Maybe they listened to the people that said there's gave the too high of reads on the forums. I am irritated.

Today I did X Train All Out Low Impact HiiT for 40 minutes and 271 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 146.

Diane Sue, it’s ridiculous that your Fitbit readings are so low. I don’t blame you for being irritated.

Hello to Judy, Deb, and Valerie.

Hi Everyone,

Sunday was an active rest day, I did Core Max 1 after work. Yesterday I did LiTe Pyramid Pump, No Disc Premix. Today was a 30 minute "HiiT & Hills" Peloton Ride, then a 60 minute Scenic Ride. We have a Winter Weather Advisory through Thursday. They are saying 3-6 inches of snow by tomorrow night.

Deb-I hope Kylee is doing better. I don't use the On Demand feature a lot. Sometimes I use it to preview workouts but I still use DVDs mostly when I do them. I did Core Max 1 On Demand using my iPad, so I could do it upstairs. I have a list of several Live workouts I want to do. Maybe I'll make a rotation out if it and do them all over a couple of weeks.

Diane Sue-I don't blame you for being irritated. I remember when I tried the Versa a couple of years ago my heart rate readings and steps were way off. It was recording steps while it was in the charger. I returned to to REI after a couple of weeks.

Hi to Valerie and Carolyn!

Judy

we did serious yard work on our new retaining wall. 2700 pounds of concrete bricks! bought a second palette of bricks but will save those for tomorrow. we are done with the hardest part of leveling the first row. now its easier but still heavy. DH humps them around more than I do but its still tough.
a lot of people on WW ( connect) use protein drinks, Premier being the one mentioned at 2 points. so I bought a small package of the chocolate. OMG. this stuff is AWFUL!! no way is this an option.... its the same weird taste that protein bars have, and whatever it is, I really really don't like it, the smell or the taste. I tried it frozen like a milk shake. there is no way to get it down. it tastes like Ensure, which I took a sip of once on a dare. Gaack.

I have never invested in a fitness monitor. I have enough trouble getting reading even with a chest strap. bounce all over the place . if I read about one that worked while riding, I might be tempted but not so far.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. That was 25 minutes and 188 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 149. I needed a short workout this morning and this was just right.

Judy, nice job with Core Max, Pyramid Pump, and your Peloton rides. Your and Diane Sue’s experiences with the Versa make me glad that I decided to pass on it. I still have the Charge 2 which works fine. If I get a smart watch it will probably be an Apple Watch. Fitbit seems to have difficulties transitioning from the activity trackers to the smart watch.

Valerie, that’s some serious yard work that you did yesterday! Several people in my WW group love that protein drink, but it never appealed to me. I haven’t tried it personally, but it reminded me of Ensure, too.

Hello to Diane Sue and Deb.

No workout today. I had my granddaughter over and took her in to get scanned for her Invisaligns then took her to her school. She stayed the night and the appointment was early. By the time I got back I was just not feeling it. I have been coughing like crazy. My neck is better though. I figured a rest was a good thing. I will get back at it tomorrow.
I reset my Fitbit to it's factory reset last night. I will be interested in seeing how it does for cardio tomorrow. It seems fine when I check doing different activities today. I thought I would lose everything I had set in it, but I guess syncing first helped. Most of the stuff was there when I reset and sank it again.

I think maybe the Apple watch has some problems. My daughter and granddaughters got them for Christmas. My daughter says she is on her feet at work all day and was standing at her standing desk between patients and it told her to stand up. I guess they tell you to stand?? Fit Bit does not have that feature.
Apple costs a lot more. I am not sure I would buy one unless I was sure it was the perfect watch. I was okay with the Blaze. The battery was starting to not last as long as it should and it did not do well with yoga workouts or weights so much. Versa was more accurate on both till they did that update.

Carolyn, I really like the Cardio Quick Fix workout and the first one is my favorite of the two. Perfect when I want cardio without being too intense.

Judy, nice workouts. I have not had my Versa record steps when I am not wearing it. It seems to do okay on steps. I did find it funny that the Versa and the Blaze had me riding a bike when I was on the back of the motorcycle. Not a lot of calories though as my feet weren't moving.

Valerie, Kelly Coffey mentioned the Premier protein drink on her In the Kitchen with Kelly. She said they were good to grab in the mornings. I checked them out at Walmart and they have a lot of cholesterol in them and I think they had sucralose in them. I didn't buy them. I tried a Muscle Milk Protein drink when I was out yesterday and it tasted way too sweet. I am not fond of overly sweet things. Kelly was talking about how she doesn't usually eat breakfast and sometimes will grab one of the protein balls she made on her show. I do like the protein balls though. She put some steel cut oats in them with peanut butter, protein powder, agave syrup, and dark chocolate chips. I have made them twice and the second time I used almond butter and I used raw honey both times. I never have cared for protein drinks even when I make them myself. All of that brick work and yard work sounds like a tough workout.

Deb, I hope Kylee is doing better.

We did another 2700 lbs today ( whole palette) plus 7 extra bricks we had to go back for. plus a lot of shoveling rocks and raking dirt. wall ended up being taller than we wanted, but it slope goes downhill and this was the only thing that worked. not done backfilling behind the wall yet, but well along the way. then for a change of pace we did a short road ride for an hour 15 min , and about 15 miles. I am tired tonight.

I got DH to taste test the protein drink. he didn't think it was bad the first few sips, but found an aftertaste he didn't like. he got about 2 oz before saying "no more". I am pretty sure it's the whey protein powder I dislike so much. isn't the sweetness, it's a weird chemical smell/taste that's overwhelming. a lot of people think it tastes good so only my opinion. I'm the same way with snack bars that say "protein" on them, the same unpleasant flavor. I am always hungry in the morning, yogurt or cereal and fruit with some nuts. I'm disappointed, thought this would be an easy low point snack to fill the void when I'm hungry, but no.

Deb let us know you puppy is doing OK!

This morning I did Step Boss PHA 3 for 59 minutes and 353 calories burned. My average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 163.

I see that Cathe is planning to post some instructional videos for those who want to learn step. There was a lot of interest when she asked for feedback. I think it’s a great idea.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you took a day of rest for yourself. That is so important. Workout One from Cardio Quick Fix is also my favorite of the two.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Deb.

I was tired today, s did a little raking and shoveling but not very much. I didn't get sore but am tired. we tried to ski this morning but snow was crap and it was raining besides. not a lot to recommend it!. my ashingles vaccine is finally in at Costco, so will try to get it done tomorrow afternoon.

those of you who use a powdered protein? what do you usually use? I don't think whey protein, but some plant based powders?

This morning I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Quick Fix both workouts combined, 45 minutes, heart rate 127/162, 245 calories, 4,702 steps. I also did the Bonus glutes, abs, and hips from this workout, 15 minutes, 57 calories, heart rate 113/143, 396 steps. I finished with Gentle Yoga neck and shoulders, 19 minutes, 25 calories, heart rate 86/105, 46 steps. My Fitbit Versa 2 seems to be working better after resetting it. Total time was 79 minutes, 327 calories, 5,144 steps. I used a 2# dumbbell for the bonus glutes, abs, and hips. I didn't want to chance hurting my neck and shoulder.

Valerie, you have really working hard with that brick and outdoor work. I am picky about protein powder and most of them do not taste good to me on their own. I keep some around to help boost my protein. I once thought I would buy some unflavored and unsweetened grass fed whey and it was awful tasting stuff. Reminded me of what an old carton of powdered carnation milk smelled like that I had around for a long time. It really depends on ingredients and what flavor you might like. Amazing grass has a peanut butter one that I did not think was too bad. I am not a fan of the plant based, but that one and some Garden of Life one that I accidentally purchased instead of their whey was not bad. I used those up. I put some in my yogurt with other things or sometimes it is not bad to stir a little into my oatmeal. I rarely make them into drinks. Maybe summers I will make some shakes with it and some blueberries with nut milk and lots of ice. Those I use vanilla for. You could find some recipes online. Also there are so many different formulas for plant based protein powders.

Carolyn, after us talking about Cardio Quick Fix I decided to do the whole thing this morning :) That is a good idea for Cathe to post those instructional videos. I think I saw her post something on facebook.
