Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/21

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both Sweat workouts (46:13).

Deb, I am recording Suits on cable. I don't think the new season is on Amazon Prime. I have friends who really like Mercy Street on PBS. Maybe you can get that.

Diane Sue, I'm with Deb--really impressed with an 80 lb. barbell on your shoulders. Like Lori, I have been somewhat wary of swinging a barbell over my head, because I hurt one of my shoulders doing meso 3 of STS--tendonitis. That's when I sold STS. Skunks are no fun! They stink even when they haven't sprayed.

Lori, can you do those pretzels without hanging on to your ankle? I can't, but I did feel them anyway on one of the SB workouts, holding on to my ankle. There are pretzels on one of the P-57 workouts, too.

Josie, I had to change my hairdresser awhile back because she was always LATE and made me wait forever, and the salon was too noisy for me. Loud music plus all the hairdryers going, chatter--jangled my nerves. I go to a much quieter place now and found someone who gets my highlights in without a lot of chatter. I guess it must be difficult if you are friends with her as well as being a client.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lynda, when I did Meso 3 I used the squat attachment with my Bowflex for some of it. Front squats with a barbell does not feel right. I either have to use the weight vest and lighter bar or dumbbells. Hammer and Chisel just uses dumbbells. Sagi has some squats and plie squats holding the dumbbells at the shoulders and in front. I have modified that or had to go light. I do remember when I started going heavier with the barbell there were times where I had to carefully get the bar off of one shoulder and squat down to drop it off. I know it was not a good thing to do.

Lori, I bet your son did like having the bench and rack. My grandson, 15 comes here and uses my weights. He loads up so heavy I am always afraid that he is going to hurt himself without a spotter. He plays football and is in wrestling at school. He hurt had his shoulder injured wrestling awhile back. They were talking about doing an mri but, he seemed to get better so they didn't do it. I guess that stuff goes with sports. I wish his coach didn't push so hard. But then he wouldn't be a good coach I suppose. It is just that he pushes when he is injured too, I also don't like that my grandson is always trying to get to a lower weight class. Maybe I just don't like the way sports are. I often feel like if I pay for on demand very many times I could have bought the set of workouts.

Josie, I hope that lunch goes well. I had a salon I used to go to that was like a warehouse and the music was awful. So loud. The guy that did my hair did a good job but I finally had enough of it. I found a hairdresser that is very quiet. So much more relaxing. I usually do my own color though and a lot of the time I have my husband cut my hair. He does a pretty good job. He has been cutting the family's hair for years. No schooling, he is just good at it. Last time he saw something on the internet and cut my hair. The cut lasted so long. I want him to do it again. It always seems like salons are like listening to everyone's life story or something. I usually dread it even when it is quiet. I did daycare for my grandkids for years so they all kind of grew up working out with me :) We have the whole set of Seinfield episodes on dvd.

Deb, it seems Oklahoma City gets more of the nasty black ice and the northern part of the state gets the snow. I refuse to go out of the house when it is like that. I could use access to my Treadclimber right now while my shoulder is mending.

Hi Everyone,

Tuesday I did 4 DS Lower Body & the bands only premix from TTM, and a segment of Core Max. Wednesday I did a Spinerval, yesterday I did a short spin workout and KCM Muscle Up, Shoulders, Arms & Abs premix and this morning I did ICE Metabolic Total Body with Icy Core 1.

I stayed home Wednesday and Thursday because of the snow. I was able to get caught up on some cleaning and laundry. Schools and state offices were closed Thursday due to the snow storm. We didn't get it as bad as they did north of here, but it was bad enough for me not to want to drive anywhere.

Valerie-I'm glad your knee is better. Hope you are having a good trip!

Lynda-I loved Mary Tyler Moore too. We have all the Seinfeld seasons on DVDs. Veep is the only new comedy that I watch.

Diane Sue-getting an 80 lb barbell over your head sounds pretty impressive to me. I don't like front squats either. I usually modify that when it comes up. I have had to do the same thing, bending down with the barbell on my shoulders and carefully getting it to the floor. My chiropractor would cringe if she saw me doing that. I should probably get a squat rack at some point.

Lori- I am going to try out the pretzel move this weekend. It looks like it would be effective. The chili cook off contest sounds like fun. I can't remember the last time I had chili.

Josie-that's too bad about your hairdresser. I forgot about MASH. I loved that show! I still remember how sad I was when they had their last episode. I was in college and a group of us watched it together in the student lounge.

Deb-it sounds like you did get the storm we had earlier this week. How are you liking Cathe Live so far? There are so many workouts to choose from. We are going to Toledo for a stamp show tomorrow and will probably stop for breakfast on the way.

Good evening ladies!

Only workout today was at lunch with the lades and we did Barre Legs from 21d. No workout tonight becuase I came home and my DH had a nice glass of wine waiting for me to celebrate Friday! So wine instead of a workout. :)

Deb...you used to do TM workouts regularly. Bet it felt good being on it. Yes cancelling Demand means I lose the use of the WB. This is fine because I have a lot of her downloads and tons of mixes I have already made by using her desk top WB when is was working great. Now I just make my premix on my Ipad. Takes a little longer and I have a couple extra steps but I do not mind.

Josie...i do not blame you for going somewhere else to het your hair cut. Nice you are meeting your old stylist. I think it is really important to be honest with her. If she is a good friend she'll be good and understand how you felt. I never watched any episodes of MASH. Never got into it. My DH is in complete disbelief over this.

Diane Sue...I have never heard of the workout Boss Blast. Will need to look this one up. 581 calories! Sounds like you certainly did get your HR up! My son loves having the weights and bench. Hoping you are able to get rid of the skunk smell.

Judy...I think you will love the pretzel move. Really works your glutes deep. Enjoy the stamp show!

Lynda...I just started not holding my leg and it does flop at times so I need to be careful and pay attention. My form is a lot better though from when I started. I have 4DS and I am ashamed to say I have only done the kickboxing portion. I really need to pull this one out and give it a whirl. At least do it once!

Hi to Valerie!

Lori, I went back and edited that. It is Bosu Blast on a CIA dvd called Double Cardio. Seasun does Bosu Blast and Sharon Twombly does All Body Cardio on it. I really like the abs with the Bosu on that one. I was typing on my cell phone so I am guessing it word corrected because it did not know what a Bosu was.

Judy, enjoy your outing tomorrow :) I am sure the chiropractor would definitely be cringing. The doctor that did my knee surgery suggested I cross train. Which I thought was funny because I told him all of the different types of workouts that I do.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Giant Sets...whew, that one is tougher than it looks. I had to lower the weight after 2 rounds....this would make a great DVD workout in a future series.

Josie, that ride sounds hard, it's getting closer to the actual ride! Some say it is harder to "break up" with your hair stylist than with a significant other...LOL :). I changed hair stylists after almost 20 years, and it was very awkward...since John still goes to her. The one I had before her was the same way yours was....always talking on the phone while she cut my hair....and having friends drop in and she would stop to talk to them....Nope...not happening....I just stopped going there. Have fun with the "Peanuts" this weekend.

Diane Sue....ugh...skunk is the worst...a HR of 167 is really high! I hope you didn't stay there for long. I agree, some coaches push too hard...they should never make them play when injured. LOL on the DR telling you to cross train....I bet he was in shock when he heard the types of workouts you to.

Lynda, I saw that Suits is currently on TV...so I will have to wait for either Prime, or get the DVD's from the library once they are out. Glad you mentioned it...I forgot all about it after season 4. I started watching Philly last night. Unfortunately it's only 1 season. I like Kim Delaney.

Judy, great workouts! A good mix of instructors, etc. That barbell removal that you and Diane Sue mentioned sounds dangerous. If you were closer I would give you my weight bench. I am really liking Cathy Live so far. So many workouts to choose from. Thank goodness we have Lori's list! :).

Lori, a glass of wine to celebrate Friday is better than any workout! ( not every day though...LOL. ) That's right, I forgot that if you get the downloads you can make up your own workouts too. I think you would really like 4DS. The weight work is awesome.

Hi to the travelling Valerie,

Agility class today, otherwise HouseMax for me.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, Take care,

I'm back, got home mid day yesterday. we have issues with our signals getting mingled with Canadian signals, and don't use electronics much so I don't use the phone or ipad much from this area. .
we did 3 rides, all were very nice. Tuesday we did a ride midway to our destination and the next two we rode on the Olympic adventure trail in forest. averaged about 3 hours each, but the third day my butt was getting sore. did one short hike on the 3rd day too, but not so happy with that. the last ride was the best. with only one vehicle we need to be careful to allow enough energy to go back the way we came. I'm going to see if I can find a link to something like what it was like. very pretty and primitive feeling although there was a logging road not far away. not sure if it was open as there was no traffic on it. the trail is a single track and very remote feeling. there are several spots where a public road crosses it, so it can be done in sections. a bike trail is being built across the entire Olympic peninsula. some of it is paved and for road bikes, other parts are single track thru mostly second growth forest. one is the Olympic discovery trail, the unpaved sections are the Olympic adventure trail. It's not all completed but we've done a good % of it in sections.

I've never seen Frasier, used to like MTM a lot. I don't even mind if humor is raunchy but it has to be clever or funny! raunchy for the sake of grossing people out doesn't amuse me at all, and it seems that's what everyone thinks is funny these days.

I haven't read this thread very well so can't comment on much.

the one hike we did... was over populated with 20-somethings all impressed with themselves and looking at their phones constantly. I am developing a very short fuse about tolerating much of that. you go to a beautiful spot with gorgeous views and wildlife and all you can look at is your stupid phone??? Not really a question.... I got an overdose of this behavior on thursday.

ETA I got along well with the therapy person. He's a tough guy but has a good reputation for working on knees. Deb, yes I do work hard and do what I'm told to do without whining. If it hurt I said so, cause there's nothing to be gained from something causing pain. I'm always on time and "keep on keeping on" as long as they want me to.
oh my skunk. a smell that once it's in your nose you can smell it forever. like an "ear worm" song, just stays with you.
I couldn't find a good link that showed what the trail was like. lots of pics of the paved stuff but not the other.

ETA again ....Just found out our credit card got scammed again. geeez. not even worth learning the number, they don't last long enough. not a clue when it happened as we used it for ferry charges this week and nothing else. paid for campgrounds, reg bills with checks and no other charges for gas, restaurants etc. and we want Apple to give up their security system to decode one phone??

Today I did X Train Cardio Legs Strength only mix, Great Glutes bonus chair doing the calves twice and adding the stretch, and finishing with 4 Day Split lower intensity step, step only mix. My workout was 93 minutes, 513 calories. We are having a double birthday party in a couple of hours. I spent most of yesterday cleaning and making cakes and hummus. I am just picking up brisket and smoked chicken from Billy Sims. I didn't feel like doing that much cooking.

Valerie, I generally enjoy comedy and humor. I like to watch Big Band Theory. Just not really gross stuff. I started to watch the last Vacation movie the other day and it was gross too. Drain hair in a ball from the tub really was nauseating. I guess I have been in the mood for some humor but not finding much I can enjoy. It sounds like you had a really nice ride. I hear you on the phone. Our family makes jokes and gives the teens in the family a hard time about trying to watch a movie or enjoy a birthday party while texting and hanging on their phones. You go to restaurants and couples are sitting there together on their cell phones. What kind of relationship is that. We go out and it is a good time to focus on each other when we talk.

Deb, no the heartrate yesterday was an average of 137 :) I am guessing it was all of the fast foot repeaters on the bosu. She does a lot. I just rarely get much above 158 even when I am trying to push harder. I keep reading everyone's posts on the live workouts and I am really thinking I should at least do it for a month just to see. I would like to try Ice on Demand but it would be the only reason to do that. I want the whole set eventually.
