Good morning,

Not too much going on. John is still sick, cannot shake the cough from whatever it is he has. Mine is about 95% gone. I bought a Chromecast yesterday, set up wasn't too bad, but now struggling on the use, saving things to a playlist etc. I need Lori here to assist me! :). I am going to try Cathe LIVE. You people are Enablers!

Valerie, I will keep that planter mix in mind. Our pots with flowers definitely need something more than I have been doing, which is regular potting soil. What is the plastic chair mat with spikes for?

Lynda, thought of you when I saw this: https://www.yahoo.com/tv/making-murderer-steven-averys-lawyer-004553810.html

Diane Sue, It sounds like you really need to rest your shoulder and neck from any workouts. Funny you mention the Kirby vacuum cleaner. I have one too, it was really expensive, I was so convinced that we needed this great thing....I hate it....absolutely hate it...and never use it. No one wants it, I can't give it away. I tried to see if they were selling on Craigslist....Nope....We have the great little old Hoover for floors etc, and a Simplicity upright for rugs. Agree 100% on the food these days....scary what the big companies can do and get away with. I believe it is why kids are sicker now, and have infections, allergies etc. Even Autism and ADHD seem almost rampant now. I don't remember kids having these when I was young.

Hi Josie, Judy, & Lori,

A workout, HouseMax and the awards dinner tonight.

Take care,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday was Live Cardio Core. One of my favorites. This was my only workout since I needed to leave to meet the girls. I live way out in left field so it took me an hour to get to the restaurant. Was a great time and glad we do this. Today I am planning to do a few lower body SB targets.

Yeah congrats Deb that you are going to get Live! Sorry that we enabled you but I know you will love it. I am very technical but unfortunatley, I have never used Chromcast. Several people at work do so I can ask them. I know it is HDMI and thinking it may work like Apple TV. You get channels like Net Flix, Amazon then also mirrors your Ipad when playing video, etc. I do know not all apps will work with Chromcast.

Valerie...I am picturing it now...pouring rain, cart full of stuff and trying to get in the car...we have all been there!!!! I am not much of a gardner but I plan to plant a little more this year. Our landscaping is kept neat but not much color. We are the lackluster house of the neighborhood!

Diane Sue...I feel for you!!!! It is so fustrating when the internet is not working. We mostlly stream so we get it how you feel. Hoping this gets resolved quickly for you. So sorry your neck and shoulder still bothers you. Smart to lay off upper workouts for a while. I have had ongoing shoulder issues with my left. When I workout I usually always have to modify a bit and there are certain moves I need to completely stay away from.

We are going to see Deadpool today. DH really wants to see it. I hear it is quite funny.

Have a great day all!!!!

Back again....we are about to leave for the movies. I ended up doing SB's sculpting target on her streaming that has the ankle weights. I used 2lbs then contiuned on to her new DVD and did the thigh and seat work. I have never had the extreme intense heat in my thighs like I did today! These two combined truly made me understand the term ON FIRE! Loved it!!!!!!!!

I thought I would try runming yesterday seeing as my knee has been not causing problems. it was more of a walk than a run. went to a park we haven't been to lately. it was sloppy wet, and up /downhill course. we have never run the whole thing because of footing on steep uphill and downhill spots. it naturally breaks up into running and walking. I did it, but not like a champ. generally got through it but not with anything I'm happy with. I over dressed and got too warm besides. I need to get going again on the treadmill, a little bit every day to get my running form back. it's sobering to me how I can ride so strongly, rip thru an elliptical workout, but switch to a slightly different activity and I pretty much fall apart. Ugh.

Deb, don't know if Miracle Gro potting mix is a national product? it's very popular here because container planting is so huge. everyone does hanging baskets. plain dirt is too heavy. MG mix is very "peat mossy " so fairly light. absorbs and holds water well. It does NOT have enough fertilizer to get thru an entire season but it's good for the first couple months. a big bag is about $10 at Costco and works great for deck plants. it's easier to clean up spills than real "dirt" too. and of course there were cars parked on both sides so I couldn't open the doors all the way.

Lori, it was just hilarious. I stuck this huge bag of dirt on the bottom shelf of the cart. not THAT heavy but bulky and I didn't want to rip the plastic. Deb, it was one of those huge clear plastic mats you put on top of carpeting so your desk chair will roll...... don't know what they're called officially. anyway, no clue it would start raining while I was in the store, but this was a deluge! should have waited, but I was running late and had no idea if it would go on for another half hour. The mat is hard enough to wrestle when dry, but wet it was like a big twisting fish. !

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Cathe Live Blasts, Barre, and Bands (56 min.). I had to modify some of the blasts, but I still felt like this was another great circuit workout. My band with the handles is particularly difficult, so I really felt some burn in my triceps and rear delts. Yesterday was Housemax and then I went off to see the photographic exhibition at the Tang. A whole variety of photographers from someone who was a big collector, so there was a lot of variety.

Deb, thanks for that link. Just watching the documentary, I couldn't figure out why they didn't go after some of the other people, especially a couple of hunters who clearly lied about their times. I think you will like Cathe Live for the extemporaneous quality of the workouts. Nothing wrong with how polished everyone is in the dvds, but also somewhat intimidating. I actually feel like I do some of the moves a lot better than the exercisers in the Live workouts. Makes me feel good--not competing with Jae or Amanda! I don't know how Chromecast works, but I really like the Apple TV and Cathe's tutorial on setting it up is great according to DH.

Lori, I have heard that Deadpool is kind of an anti-superhero film because of the nature of the 'hero'. It did sound like fun.

Judy, what kind of job would you be doing for REI if you were hired? Did you ever have any luck with the vet assistant job openings?

Diane Sue, that sounds very frustrating. Sometimes I just think of how simple things were with 3 TV channels, one landline phone, and movies? Had to go to a theater--no dvds, no VHS, no streaming. Phew how things have changed. I had that Cher and Keli Roberts video too and thought it was pretty good despite the lingerie which had a bit of a dominatrix look to it if I remember correctly. Take care of your neck and back.

Valerie, I cannot imagine trying to hoist one of those plastic mats in pouring rain. I guess you could raise it over your head for shelter if nothing else.

Going out to dinner tonight. The owner herself at Mezze's is bringing back some of her specialties from when she first started the restaurant 20 years ago. Should be interesting.

Hi to Josie!

Rest day ad family day today. It is a bit cooler out today after being in the 80's yesterday. They say Tuesday it will be cold and rain with possibility of a few flakes. We will see. I see people outside doing spring stuff. I keep holding out for a bit. It is not unusual for us to up and have freezing weather in March.

Deb, I think that they could do away with a lot of meds if the food we eat was all natural real food. It really annoys me that sometimes I purchase stuff thinking I am getting a good product and it still has junk in it. On the cellulose in cheese, I checked my Horizon Organic Mozzarella and it has it in it and says for caking. Seriously, I grate my own cheese from blocks and I don't recall it caking. I looked at Chromcast when I purchased our Roku stick. I would like to get the Roku box and use the stick in my workout room. With the Roku stick I had to set it up online. Most of the channels that we chose to use had to be set up with the password etc for things like Netflix etc. Then we did not have to put it in again. We just click on the channel we want. I have ESPN on it but most of the time it is watching the game without the sound.

Lori, it is my left shoulder, neck and often the trap that I have the most issues with. I generally have moves like the pull ups that I just do the tubing with. I used to use the lat tower on the Bowflex instead but I got rid of it when we moved for more space. I have to be careful how far overhead I go with the dumbbell when doing pull overs. There are a lot of pull ups in Hammer and Chisel and I was feeling pretty good about doing a lot of them with no problems. I should have known better. I really like coree work. I think that it is one of my favorites to do. Enjoy the movie :)

Valerie, it is funny how our bodies adapt to workouts but when we don't do them for awhile we have to adapt again. I bet it doesn't take you too long though/

Lynda, it is funny how spoiled we are with the conveniences and gadgets that we have now. Cell phones are awesome. It is hard to imagine being without one. Yes, I remember the one or two channels. I really never watched much television growing up. Rabbit ears :) I wish everything set up the same. Seriously, I thought about switching internet providers but, then I would have to change the information in the televisions and computers. It does not seem like something pleasant to set all back up. I went through my Netgear Genie after my husband left last nigh for work, to do an update and make sure that streaming was priority at 5G. Checked all of the wiring for anything loose. I got Netflix back up. Hopefully the problem is better.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did ICE Chiseled Lower Body, a timesaver premix. I actually slept until the alarm at 5:45! I didn't even hear John get up with the dogs at 5:00. That felt so good. The awards dinner was nice but, very long. There were 267 awards to give out.

Lori, The problem I am having with the LIVE is not in the set up, it works, but maneuvering around....no search function that I can find. I am not scrolling through 85+ videos to find one I want. I contacted the Help desk...we'll see. How was the movie?

Valerie, probably good to start on the treadmill, so you can control the surface, incline if you want etc. I have one of those mats under my computer chair, I can't imagine carrying it out to the car, and in the rain no less!

Lynda, how was dinner? I think it's great that she would think to bring back some old specialties. Was your DH's meat part of the menu?

Diane Sue, hope your adjusting solves your internet problem. So frustrating. Isn't that awful, you are thinking you are getting something healthy, then see the "fine print"? The Roku seems more complicated than Chromecast. I will only be using this for the LIVE workouts, since we do not have Netflix or any other. I have Amazon Prime, but like watching that on my iPad.

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

A workout, hopefully a LIVE one!

Take care,

good morning....
Judy I keep forgetting to comment ... REI? a few years ago it was considered one of the "best" places to work. unsure if that's still the case. assume because of benefits, work environment. It's such a large chain now. I shopped at the first and only REI in Seattle when I moved here , when it was one rickety old building downtown. I have a 6 digit member number from the mid 70's. the people working there are usually nice, friendly, helpful, more so than most retail stores. I have spend many thousands of $$ there over 40 years.
Early appt today, back later.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Cathe Live Gloved and Ready with 1 lb. gloves (50 min.). Worked up quite a sweat on this one with the fast feet tabatas. A little bit of weights at the end, but not enough to really build lean muscle according to Cathe. I did not do all of the jumping jacks, substituted a fast feet shuffle.

Deb, I look at the videos the night before on my iPad and choose one. In the morning I just do airplay on the iPad of the one I have chosen and I have the Apple TV input on. DH had these very spicy Moroccan dishes last night, but I couldn't resist the salmon on a bed of vegetables (Judy reminded me how much I like salmon). There always are menu items based on DH's pork. We are still waiting for the Comfort Sunday meal that will be all pork based. I remember a doughnut that had his bacon in it a few years ago. Salty-sweet was good!

Lori, Deadpool is R-rated? It certainly has been a winner at the box office.

Diane Sue, it feels like spring here as well. I could never master pull-ups. I did those easy ones on Cathe's tower when I did STS. I also have these bands that I tried to help me, but they never worked for me either. Sigh!

Ordered all my Jacob's Pillow tickets today. Now I can't wait for summer!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I did Chalean Extreme burn sets 1. I know I am late to the game with these but I am really enjoying them. Going to try and do a hybrid with her weights and Cathe/SB cardio. There are 3 phases to CLX each 4 weeks. I will keep each to 2 weeks. This way it will keep me motivated. At lunch we did Barre and Bands. My legs were still really tired from yesterday's barre work but I got through it. A couple of the ladies chuckled because I was fatiguing before them and they all loved it. They will never let me forget it! Lol!

Valerie...I hear you about changing up a workout. You use your muscles in the slightest difference and your beat!! Good for you to want to start runnin again.

Judy...good luck with the group interview. This must be a new thing as I had never heard of it before and now you are the second person I know going for one!

Diane Sue...I would love a day that was 80 degrees!!! Rest days are always good. Years ago I would feel so guilty If I did not workout everyday. Glad I do not feel this way anymore! We have a few Roku 3's that we like a lot. Imlove that I can stick in a USB and play a download. The Apple TV I just bought is for my TV in my workout room. It is making it so much easier for me to stream.

Deb...wow! You slept in didn't you? I was up at 4:00am this morning. My friend decided to text me at that time. Once I woke I was done in and frankly, I was a little pissed! I think I would have fallen asleep sitting through that many awards. That is pretty much what I do with Cathe Live. Scroll thru. That is why I decided that was for the birds and started the spread sheet for quick reference. The movie was silly at first but I warmed up to it and ended up enjoying it. My DH loved it from the start.

Lynda...I love the Gloved up workout. The Rockmsockm one is similar. She uses the bag for tabata drills. I really feel the core in these two. I do the same thing the night before. Try and select the workout I want to do. The movie is R due to violence and nudity. A donut with bacon in it sounds very interesting. Yeah Jacob's Pillow! Summer is near!!

Himto Josie!

This week I am trying to be easy on the shoulders. I did P90X 3 Eccentric lower body with the Cold Start Warm up, 44 minutes, 200 calories. I never feel that that one is all that tough since some moves are non weighted so I did Cathe's Lean Legs and Abs, chair, firewalker, abs (omitting overhead moves with the weights) and stretch, 28 minutes, 113 calories. I also did X Train All Out Low Impact Hiit, omitting overhead moves with the 5# dumbbells, 39 minutes, 299 calories.
Calories burned 612. We tried to stream a movie last night and we could not watch it so I upgraded our internet. They wouldn't let me have my 5 dollar upgrade offer because we got them to lower the 20 dollar price hike by 5 dollars :( Anyway, I sure hope it works better.

Lynda, I was using a chair for a bit of help with the pull ups but finally just got to where I was doing them. It was too hard to use a chair or grab tubing handles on the Hammer and Chisel workout where you went from burpees to grabbing the pull up bar . I did use the chair when I did the one where you did the pull up and held at the top for a count before you went back down. I just started getting to confident I guess. I love bacon. I bet yours is really good. I try to buy no sugar or nitrate bacon at Sprouts. Generally Garrett's or another they have that are Paleo friendly. Since I did not make it to Sprouts I bought Applegate bacon without the nitrates. I made a recipe this weekend from The Wild Diet that was chicken breasts split with sundried tomatoes and tahini spread in between and bacon wrapped around. They were yummy.

Valerie, good luck with the interview.

Deb, I have been to some of those really long award dinners. We use Amazon Prime on our Roku. My television upstairs has a button for Amazon but I can hardly ever get it to pull up the movies. I generally let my grandson watch it on my old ipad. I have some shows I have purchased there for him too. It seems their programs are a bit better for small children than what shows up on Netflix.

Lori, you must have posted when I was typing :) I like Chalean Extreme. I have done the rotation a couple of times. I had someone give me a different rotation with them that worked a bit better. I also have the bonus workouts and the newer Extreme workouts that has the Dynamic Flow yoga that she wears weighted gloves with, and a killer high endurance lower body workout on it. The other workout on it is a stability ball workout and total body but mostly upper endurance focused. I think she really has a motivating personality. Speaking of movies, I tried watching Ted 2, what was I thinking?? It lasted about 5 minutes of me being on the spin bike and it was off. It said NR for the rating but teen?? I was offended by it right off. The reviews had said it was really funny. Maybe it is me but I did not find it funny.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did Spinervals 47.0," Endurance Activator", for 1 hr & 45 minutes, and 30 miles. That was my longest ride since early December.
Tomorrow I will be back to weights. I'm planning on 4DS Legs with TTM. There is a winter weather advisory for Wednesday & Thursday for Southeast Michigan. We could get 4-8 inches of snow.

We didn't get to the Apple Store this weekend so I ordered Apple TV online and it is supposed to be here Wednesday.

I absolutely love shopping at REI. We live less than 2 miles from the store and we are there at least once a week. However, after taking some time to find out a little more about the position they are hiring for (they require availability 16 hours every weekend and at least 2 nights a week) I decided to decline and I won't be doing the group interview. DH has some concerns that the hours might be a problem and he was right. Also, the more I read about group interviews, the less I wanted to do one. I do much better talking to someone one to one. Public speaking is something I was never very good at.
I'm just going to keep focusing on finding a veterinary assistant position. I finished the second class last week and am working on the third one now.

Deb-that's great that you are getting Cathe Live! I hope John is feeling better.

Lynda-I signed up with a job search site that has local veterinary openings. I still need to call around and talk to some vets that I know and see what they look for when they hire assistants.

Valerie- that is so cool that you were an REI member in the 70's. We got our membership in 2007 and have been very happy with it. I did some reading on glassdoor.com and REI gets pretty good reviews from employees. It does seem that they hire more seasonal and part time help now and not as many full time employees.
That's great that you want to start running again.

Lori-I've never tried Chalene Extreme. It sounds like a good workout.
I had never heard of a group interview before this. I'm glad they weren't doing them when I was first working. I always did well in the old fashioned interviews but I don't like the group concept.

Diane Sue-I hope your shoulder feels better soon. I love bacon too! That chicken recipe sounds really good. I'll have to take a look at the Wild Diet.

Josie-I hope you had a great bike ride!

Judy

Back from all my medical appts today. Judy, even a "good" place to work may not be the right fit for you. Hope you find something that you enjoy soon.
I'm released from PT as of today. my knee is behaving a lot better, and I got my brace today. they sent two accidentally, for the price of one. I only plan on using it for long downhill walking where I had problems last year. PT is fine with me running. I don't plan on BIG mileage but yesterday was way better than the day before. Optimistic for it improving. He recommends me using weights in squats and lunges as long as I am careful to keep my ROM normal. I'm confident I can do that. only therapy work today... busy otherwise. we will be going off for a couple days this week because of a good weather forecast. mainly mt biking. I feel Ok now about going back to regular Cathe workouts.
I guess I'm the outlier here..... I can eat bacon if pressed hard but I don't like it at all. like jerky, rather eat a tennis shoe sole. can't digest all that concentrated protein. I'd be so hungry from that I'd be on my knees. I can eat chicken, but it needs to be combined with fruit, beans, a tortilla or something else or it's like I've eaten nothing... actually worse than eating nothing at all.

We never could get roku or chrome to work here at all. returned them and bought the apple TV that worked right away and continues to.

we'll be traveling for a couple days, not sure if I'll be able to check in or not. it's near the Canadian border and sometimes it's difficult to get the signal to work without accidentally getting sucked into the Canadian system.

Judy, I went back and looked and the recipe was from my caveman feast app.. It is sort of part of what Abel James of the Wild Diet is involved in. in fact his picture as well as the Civilized Caveman guy is on the page with the recipe. I think they are the ones who started the app. I was lucky when I got the app because it was only 2.oo. I have used the recipes there a lot.

Valerie, that is great that you are released from physical therapy and can run. After I started back to working out when I had the knee surgery I bought knee supports to wear when I am doing workouts that have impact and lower body weight work. I find they feel a bit restrictive though when I am doing more active weight work.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Cathe LIVE Crush It Low Impact. This was very similar to the ICE Dvd workouts, I guess a mix of both of them. I liked it a lot.

Valerie, wow, I didn't realize REI has been around for that long. I was only in one a couple of times when we went to visit John's parents in California. I don't believe we have any in NY. Great that your PT is over. Will you keep up with the exercises? Have a great trip.

Lynda, mmm...spice Moroccan sounds delicious. I don't think I would like a donut with bacon, but then, I have never tried one so who knows? As for the workouts, I did the same thing, I looked at Lori's list of workouts, and planned the week.

Lori, is Barre & Bands a LIVE workout, or is it one that you put together with the blender? I bet the Ladies felt good being able to finish and with you struggling. :). If someone texted me at 4:00 am I would be pissed too! It had better be an emergency, and if it was, it should be a phone call! Will need to check out that movie. One of these days I may talk John into going to a movie.

Diane Sue, Cudos to you for sticking it out with pull ups until you could do them! Like Lynda, I cannot do a pull up without assistance. I have a pull up bar in the doorway, with those assistance straps. What is Sprouts again? I never saw Ted 2....what was it that you didn;t like about it??

Judy, that was a great ride! You have awesome endurance. I agree on the group interview concept, it seems a little cheesy and Lazy to me. Almost like a cattle call....not good business. Glad you decided to not go before you did it and found out what the hours were like.

Josie, how are things going in Ca?

Everyone caught up on Downton? Our local PBS station is having a Downton Goodbye party next weekend, I think during the last episode with dinner etc and everyone is dressing up like the characters.

A workout, dog grooming, then HouseMax for me....

Take care,

Also posted over in the LIVE forum....

Well, the Chromecast is going back to Target, it is too much of a pain to use. Between the "Aw Snap" error and having to constantly reload the Cathe site, and not being able to "pause" , "fast forward" or "rewind" using the phone, it's not worth it.

I did one Cathe video, enjoyed it, but if I can't find another way to stream, this will be my first and last month of using LIVE. :(.

Deb, I spent a lot of time reading reviews on the best Roku yesterday. A lot said the Roku worked the best and was easiest to use. I have never had a problem streaming with it. Once I set up the channels with their passwords they stayed. It is just the stick. I was looking at the Roku 3 and 4 though. I was thinking I could use the stick upstairs. The 3 comes highly recommended and the 4 a lot of people like but, it is higher powered or something and has a noisy fan in it and gets hot. No other complaints on it though. I am thinking maybe the 3. We have had the stick 2 years.

Valerie, I meant to say yesterday, that there is no one nutrition plan that fits all. Even when I did Whole 30 I discovered I had to lean more on the ant inflammatory protocol. They had them set for different needs. I can eat small amounts of dairy as cheese, greek yogurt and grassfed butter ( I mostly use ghee though. Sprouts is a grocery store. My husband teases mean calling it the sticks and twigs store. I cnt buy things like Cheerios and the usually garbage cereals there. I get my meats, and vegetables, coconut milk etc. There. They sell grassfed, and organic veggies with a great selection that I can't find in Homeland or Walmart. Also supplements, natural cleaners and pet supplies. I get my dog liver treats there sometimes. They have a deli and lots of people go in there to pick up lunch. They are not as expensive as Whole Foods and I like the atmosphere better. That is probably due to location though. I will be glad when they finish the new one around rhe corner from me so I don't have to drive so far. They are based in Arizona.

As far as Ted 2, I like Mark Wahlberg so that is why I thought that I might enjoy it. The problem for me is it starts right out with a wedding between the bear and the woman, two men talking about doing things to each other, and talking sex between these people (and bear) and loads of really foul language which after a few minutes I knew it was not for me. I just couldn't believe Vudu had it listed as teen.
