Pentagenarians & beyond: W/B 2/17

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Afterburn (54 min.).

Lori, I'm on week 8 of the undulating workout, so you must be doing week 7 twice? I use ankle weights on the floorwork too. I am thinking of using my firewalker band for the clams, because this is what I did on Brazil Butt Lift.

Deb, I hope you are sucking on Cold-eez. That's the only thing that works for me.

Josie, good for you on the weight loss! Are you doing WW or some other plan?

Valerie, maybe we can do STS together after I am done with this rotation.

Met with a friend to discuss our selections for Jacob's Pillow this summer. Can't wait for summer to come, because I am soooo tired of this wind. Feels like I'm in a tornado every day. DH just tells me I'm not used to working outside. I don't know how he does it.

Hi Ladies,

Could not get up this morning, but will be doing my Max Interval Plyo DVD when I get home.

Garance, I’m just watching what I eat. Not following any special program. I’m on week 7 of my rotation. I thought we all started at the same time?

Deb, I hope that you can get rid of the cold ASAP.

Hi to Joan, Valerie and Lori!

Josie

Deb, most series get divided into 3-4 episodes per disk. for most series, a season is 3-5 disks. lots of times either the beginning episode or the closing episode will be on it's own disk. we usually order disk one, and watch 2 episodes before deciding if we'll continue. often the first episode is supposed to be an attention grabber, and a little over the top. by the second epsode they start filling out the characters and that is usually a better indicator of how the series will progress. there have been some we didn't even get thru the initial episode. this reminded me to go to my netflix queue and make sure downton is on it.

traveling is such a huge exposure risk for colds. those blasted viruses lurking everywhere. hope you got the meds going in time.
DH is going to visit his mother this weekend, and that's the first thing I packed was hand sanitizer. she's not doing well and may or may not be awake enough to know he's there. we'll see how it goes. she's asleep most of the time so I'm not going to go, mostly for her children IMO.

I did Supercuts yesterday, yoga this morning. most of Supercuts is fine , but I sure have trouble with the sit-through and kick -through moves. just can't seem to get those down, even WAY slower. I think they're harder than the push up /sit up series at the end. I use the 80% button on that part and finish just a tad behind Cathe and crew.

Lynda, I'm not sure about STS. we have a lot of vacation time sprinkled around this spring/summer since DH is using up the vacation time he has coming before he retires. I may have too many interruptions to stick to a real rotation. approximately when would you want to start? not saying no, just not sure I'd be a reliable partner.

good afternoon ladies!

Ran 2.5 miles on TM this morning. Was going to do hardstrikes but was dying to continue on with Downton since I had to stop yesterday morning 15 minutes before the episode was over. So will be doing Hardstrikes tonight. :)

Garance - I think Josie is correct we did all start together. I think you may have skipped a week!! been really windy and cold here too. Enough is enough already. expecting a snow storm staurday night into sunday. Not looking forward to this.

Josie - congrats on the weight loss! Good for you!

have a great evening!

Good morning,

Feel like crap, hopefullly I can shake this before it gets worse.

I think Cathe is rushing on this new series a bit. I really like xTrain a lot, I could not even think of doing new workouts right now. I hope it takes her the good part of a year to film and get this out, whatever it is.

Garance, yes, what's up with all this wind? We are getting it too.

Valerie, is your DH watching Downton too? Not many men seem to watch, at least not here. One of John's patients (male) was talking about it in the office, but mostly it's women.

Work, ( if I make it all day,), then home to crash. I was supposed to have agility class with Kylee tonight but I already e-mailed the trainer to tell her we won't be there.

Hi to Josie, Lori, and the MIA Joan...

Take care,

I stuck in Tabaticise yesterday and did 1 and 2. I think it's too much jumping. I did the first two Ok and I'm not feeling anything this morning, but I decided to preview the rest of the disk to see if modifying might work. jumped on the treadmill for 30 instead. watched something on TV. I'll look ... some moves are jumping but not much impact, like shooters, frog jumps power 13's and I'm OK with those. I decided previewing was the best course, also to see how much step work is in there. If I skip/tone down some moves I might make it work. maybe some pre mixes do that. the jumping I don't like are the jack type moves with legs wide. always worried about landing wrong.

Deb, keep up the prevention measures and get extra rest, maybe you will get through without a major head cold.

DH is watching Downton too. he liked it, helped me keep a couple characters sorted out. some of the characters back stories were hard to keep straight.sometimes i head what they said but it didn't make any sense. this is the first older british drama I've watched. I never watched before because without subtitles i couldn't understand anything but since this one has them, it's better.

This seems awfully quick to be starting filming on yet another series. I already feel guilty because I don't use much of what I have. some I didn't like, but after not being used for a year they can seem new again. even on x-train, I want to go back and look again at the leg disks and see if I didn't react too quickly. If I am having a bad day, I can be too critical quickly.

Happy Friday!

This morning’s workout was hard, but I finished it. My arms were shaking so much when I was putting on my lipstick, that I almost ended up looking like a clown ;)

Tomorrow I will be doing the Max Recovery DVD. I don’t know why he calls it recovery. I end up soaking wet and out of breath when I do this workout.

On Sunday I will be walk/running a 5K in honor of my best friend Jeannie who passed away 4 years ago from lung cancer. I can’t believe that she has been gone that long. I still miss her everyday.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Super Cuts (45:55). I agree on those sit-throughs and kick-throughs, Valerie. On the kick-throughs, I do that move on After Burn with a plank and kicking through side to side. Just.can't.do.the kick throughs on Super Cuts after struggling with the sit-thoughs.

Hmm, I must have skipped week 7! So I will do week 7 next week.

Deb, Valerie is right about airplane travel. All of that re-circulated air with everyone's germs floating around. My friend who went to New Zealand had the flu the first week she was there. How's that for a vacation? She's sure she caught it from the long flight in an enclosed airplane cabin.

Who knows how long the presale will last? Plenty of time to hem and haw over whether I want these new workouts Cathe has planned. It also doesn't seem to matter whether you order on the first day or the last of the presale, because she is so efficient about getting them sent. I didn't order right away last time because I had a bad knee and didn't know how long it would take to recover, and I still had them almost the next day afater she started sending them out.

Looking forward to watching the Oscars on Sunday!

Good morning ladies!

Did hardstrikes last night and ran this morning. DH is working late so I am planning to do Chest, back and shoulders tonight. Not sure if I will get the core work in though.

Snow this weekend and it looks like I am going to get 8 to 12 inches. At least it is substantially less than the last storm. Wind seems to have dies down a bit thankfully.

Josie, very sorry to hear about your friend. It is amazing how time pass by. I think it is wonderful you run in her name. What a great honor to her.

I guess I am going to have a wait and see with the new workouts. By the time she starts filming, etc it will be a ways off.

Hope you are feeling better oon Deb!

Yeah for Oscars. Looking forward to watching the show.

Have a great night ladies!

contaminated surfaces planes, airports, motels.... it's impossible not to touch contaminated seats, countertops, knobs, elevator railings, remotes, door handles, menus, salt shakers that a million people touched before. no way can anyone clean them often enough to help.
I get aggressive with hand sanitizer, and make a conscious vigorous effort not to touch my face unless I've JUST sanitized my hands. it's hard to do! and of course, like Lynda mentions, the enclosed recirculated air itself contributes. blows right in your face! I worry most about surfaces because most of us touch our faces unconsciously many times a day, and that's the most efficient way to move virus/bacteria to where it can take up residence. wow, would I be ticked off if I went all the way to new zealand and ended up sick for a week.

Glad I'm not the only one with trouble with those moves! it looks simple when cathe & crew do it, but I lose balance and fall down. I'm making both moves less rotation to the side until I can get the balance better. I also take a long breath break before starting. I did all twenty kick thru's the last time by doing maybe half the "rotation" distance. the first time I tried the plank with the kickback ( forget which disk ) I couldn't balance, but the second time it didn't seem hard at all. I am forgetting the plank move from Afterburn, maybe will do today.

Yes... oscar time... DH hates it ...I love it. he won't be here so I can watch the whole thing without having to turn the volume down and can act like a ditsy 15 yr old.

we're having a wind and rain storm, so I'm getting my posting done since a power out is likely.

ETA.. Josie, so sorry to hear about your friend. cancer is relentless and taks so many people well before their time should come. How lovely of you to honor her this way.

We have a group of about 60-70 people that run the China Town Firecracker race in her honor. She touched so many peoples lives. She never forgot names and birthdays and always sent thank you notes. She was an amazing person and always thought so little of herself.

Even when she was on chemo, she would write notes for herself to call someone or thank someone.

Good morning,

I slept until 8:00 this morning, very late for me. That extra shot of Nyquil at 4:00 am probably did it!

Valerie, your comments about Tabatasize make me want to sell it like Garance did. I feel the same way you do...I don't do enough of my Cathe DVD's to keep purchasing, but then when all they hype starts, I get sucked in again.

Josie, that is so great that so many people do that run in tribute to your friend. It sounds like she was a wonderful person.

Garance, I coudn't do any of those sit-throughs etc on Supercuts..but then again I did not slow the speed I don't think, so maybe next time I will try that. I have to say, I have not seen any of the movies up for the Oscar, don't even know what they are about.

Lori, I hope you don't get that amount of snow..ugh......and they say Buffalo is the snow belt...I don't think so.

Agility class, then we are going to see a play at 2:00...( "Noises Off")...HouseMax, Keegan snack baking...all on the list for the rest of the day and tomorow...

Have a great weekend!

Did S&G yesterday. I like that one and I don't think it's too easy to be effective. almost zero impact, and plenty of burpees. the conditioning moves are useful for abs without a separate section. I have always had problems with mt climbers and the other move where you swing your leg across from a plank, but I'm stronger in the core and can do them all without a problem now.
I do a workout most often if there isn't anything I hate in it! so it's avoiding parts I hate, rather than picking things I like that drives it! I don't like step in Athletic training so don't do it often. should look at the premixes next time and see if I can avoid the step section. I didn't look at the rest of Tabatacise, don't hold out much hope for it. I'll keep working on the sit/kick thru but rotate less until I learn to balance.

I do more of cathe's stuff than I ever did. I used to do more treadmill and elliptical, but the TV pickings have gotten so bad that I stick a disk in so there's something to watch. If we didn't need cable to get local channels, I'd consider dumping it entirely but seriously considering trimming way back on the channels we pay for.

Lynda, when I look at MSNBC and click on "Morning Joe" it shows EST times only. Maybe it isn't broadcast on the west coast? I keep thinking I would have come across it before if it were available.
Deb, glad you got some rest. sleep is the best thing to help get through a cold. I haven't seen any of the movies...many are on my queue... but I love the show no matter what.
