Morning all...

Light snow overnight, hopefully that is all we will get. I didn't get all the chores on my list completed, and have to run a couple of errands.

Valerie, I thought I was reading Lori's post for a second there:)..nice workout.

Lori, how was the spaghetti dinner? That is really nice that they do that.

Garance, comfort Sunday dinner tonight? what's on the menu?

Well I tested trying to sleep without the benadryl and it was not good. That's one of the things I have to get when I go out, that and protein powder at GNC.

Off for more coffee so that I can do Chest, Back & shoulder workout...

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did legs premix 7 (60:12). I decided to do legs first this week, and tomorrow I will do the burn sets bis and tris. Premix 7 does barre, ball, chair, floor plus delts. I just don't like the standing leg work on this one--walking lunges and ball squats have never worked for me.

Deb, yes, it's comfort Sunday: split pea soup with brioche croutons, chicken fried steak with potato puree and black pepper gravy, and red velvet cake. I will just get the first two courses for 20 dollars. Two hour episode of Downton Abbey tonight--the finale. I will let you know what I think if I watch it tonight. I may record for another time.

Lori, I'm thinking I should do STS again for the upper body and may try to come up with some kind of rotation using the cardio and leg work from LIS and XTrain. I agree that I like having these workouts all ready for me.

Valerie, don't put Amour in your queue for Netflix. It is a very depressing film about end of life issues, and given your MIL and your oft-expressed views about diminishing quality of life, I think it would be a very bad idea. It is totally unsentimental, and Haneke has a couple stylistic gimmicks that are interesting, but the experience was harrowing for me, even given my interest in film and my admiration for the actors--I've seen their wonderful earlier films for Nouvelle Vague directors. I remember Jean-Louis Trintignant when he was the sexy guy in A Man and a Woman with Anouk Aimee, and his aged appearance only served to remind me of how old I am. Sigh!

It is cold and really really windy here. I will not even take chester out that is how windy it is.

Spaghetti supper went well. We had about 50 people which is a little lighter than we anticipated. I always feel so good working these suppers. So many people in our church are out of work. It is nice they can come and have a fun night out free of charge.

Today I ran on the treadmill for 2.5 miles while watching Downton Abbey. Yup you ladies did it to me. I needed something to watch and came across the first season. Well it sucked me right in. I am hooked.

Garance...i have tomorrow off and was thinking the same thing about swapping legs with bis and tris. The leg workout is so long so this will be a good w|o on a day I am not working.

I may do a short heavy bag w/o tonight or I may just stay on the couch and watch a couple more episodes of Downton. :)

Have a great night!

Oh...forgot to ask....I am really thinking about STS. Do I need to get all three cycles or can I get away with meso 2 & 3 and use my other weight workouts in place of meso 1?

I probably would not watch that movie... I'm not terribly sentimental about end of life issues. I wish we could be more practical. If people want to end things rather than dragging it out for weeks, months, or years, I support it. I find it depressing when I see actors ...so attractive in their prime... how some age badly. Louise Fletcher, of Cuckoo's Nest fame, comes to mind, some probably their fault, some probably genetics. she showed up for a small role in a TV series called "Shameless" and I recognized her but hope I do better than that!. all the plastic surgery some people do is creepy the other direction.

we watched a good one last night, 'Game Change". withEd harris, woody harrelson, julianne Moore as Sarah Palin. Wow did they skewer her! According to the movie, she was even more ignorant and ill informed than it seemed. and also a little crazy. I realize it's been run thru the Hollywood system, but not a flattering portrayal and absolutely scary. I can only guess as to how accurate it was. Uncanny how much she looked like Palin.
.
Yard work yesterday, exercise but not the same as a workout. we planned on skiing or snowshoeing this morning (good forecast) but we did the drive and it was raining... raining a lot. could not drive to the snow level because of old snow on the ground, and was NOt goign to hike uphill in the rain for miles. ended up coming home early and will need to do something else later.

Good morning,

Yep, it's here...time to get back to the grind of a new week.

I did a Cardio Coach this morning, and couldn't figure out why my legs felt like lead....forgot to take the STOK's ...no wonder I could not move.

Garance, the meal sounds wonderful, was it? Was the meat from your DH?

Lori, great to have another person to "talk" with about Downton. How did you find season one? on iTunes? Someone I know bought it that way, which I didn't know was available or I would have done that, although then I couldn't lend it out to my cousin, who is now on Season 2 with my DVD's. She is hooked too! As for STS, I think the whole series is worth getting, I wouldn't know how to sub for Meso 1. My favorite in that one is Meso 2.

Valerie, talk about Hollywood types, and plastic surgery...what about Joan Rivers? she should sue whoever she went to.

Work, then dog class tonight...

Take care,

I agree withdeb about STS. just get the whole thing ...you'll love it. I think it has more to do with the continuity of the whole thing, and the long process. I 've done it several times. prefer to do it when I have a clear calendar and can be relatively uninterrupted. I liked meso 1 alot. lots of pushups. it also removes need to think about what workout you're going to do for a long time! all lined out for you.

I can understand the temptation and maybe the need to do some understated tweaks to your looks to stay in the game. It is, after all, livelihood to many. some (Joan rivers) get absolutely scary. Jane fonda, last I saw looked, fabulous. not believable for 75 or whatever she is, but not all distorted.

MIL took a serious turn for the worse yesterday and ordered everything turned off or stopped. don't know if anything happened, as we'd finally talked to her doc and he gave her 6 months. possibly she is over-controlled on pain but not conscious now. if she stopped everything, not sure how could be. family is united in letting her go unless she wakes up and wants water, pain meds. we'll see.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie and Lori--

This morning I did Burn Sets premix 2 (47:20).

Deb, I was stunned by the ending of Downton Abbey. I don't want to say much here because it would be a big spoiler. Clear that some new characters will be introduced for next season. Yep, the meal was yummy. The soup has inspired me to make my own. We have a smoked ham hock--so maybe next week.

Valerie, Game Change was not a Hollywood production, but made for HBO based on the book. I thought it was terrific, and it made me wonder if part of Palin's problem was that she was dealing with post-pregnancy issues. I remember being pretty foggy for a few months after my babies were born and not really ready to take on anything intellectually challenging. But she just seemed resistant to learning anything! There were a lot of discussions of the film on Morning Joe with the authors of the book and the people portrayed in the film who were part of McCain's team. They said it was all pretty accurate and something of a nightmare for them.

Lori, meso 1 is endurance on STS, and what I remember most from the 2x I did STS is that, as Valerie warns, mucho grando pushups. The other thing about STS is the equipment needed. I would always check the night before in the book to see what was needed.

Hi to Josie!

Lynda, thanks for that. If there was anything on the disk about the origin, DH must have FF'd thru it while I was getting dinner. I was skeptical because I know Hollywood can spin things to the left ... the same as Fox can spin things to the right. is the book called 'Game Change" ?
I never see the Morning Joe on TV lineups. what channel is it? when is it on? I got out of the habit of watching morning news programs after they stopped being about news. newspaper doesn't pulbish programs/times any more.

yes, resistant to learning! she showed almost zero base level of information to work with. spouting mindless platitides that energized the 'base". My background in history is abysmal and I try ( now) to research events if I'm unclear how things happened, because I simply never had classes covering much of US or world history. the part I asssumed was spun especially were the sequences with her "team" realizing how pathetically unprepared she was for national political office, and not being very secretive about it. the vetting process...well, I hope no major party makes that kind of mistake again. I remember seeing the whole Katy Couric interview and thought that ANYONE who watched that ( even if nothing else) could not possibly vote for that ticket. but a lot of people did anyway, even with mccain having well known serious health problems.

Lori, trying to remember what I bought for STS.... weighted gloves, a giant rubber band to assist with pull ups, and the Cathe tower. I don't remember how much it was, not ridiculous, and both DH & I use it regularly since. (didn't have a barbell rack) had a weight bench, nice but not necessary. DH (since) does STS meso 3 as his upper body workout, so boght more heavy dumbbells.... I can't think of anything else. might have bought a resistance band but again, it gets used so much it's not just for STS.

Please don't spill the goods on Downton Abbey... at least separate the paragraph so I don't read half before I know what you're talking about. mark it 'spoiler alert" or something. I accidentally saw a couple sentences in a review and already know one thing I shouldn't. disk probably won't be on netflix for a while, so I'll try to forget.

Good evening ladies!

Still in the 20's today and breezy. The wind goes right thru you.

This morning I ran an easy 3 miles because I was watching Downton and loving every minute of it. I am already into season 2. My DH mentioned tonight he would like to start watching it so I am going to be starting all over again to watch it with him.

Tonight I decided to stick with bis and tris and core. I also thru in the 100 rep bicep challenge to finish it off.

Deb...I am watching Downton thru amazon videos on my ipad and use this or netflix while running on my treadmill. I have amazon prime so I am watching Downton with no charge. While not running I am able to watch both netflix and amazon on my tv thru our blueray player which has wifi. Technology!

Thanks for all your feedback on STS. I need to really think about this and make a decision.

Have a great night ladies!

Good morning all,

Up early today, but no energy to do a workout, rather sit here relaxing in the quiet with a cup of coffee. Class was fun last night, Kylee is a clown, but in a good way. She makes the other people smile.

Valerie, keeping your MIL in my thoughts, hopefully it is fast and peaceful. What season are you on for Downton? Do you use the subtitle feature? I found that I had to use it when I first started watching, sometimes they speak fast, with English accent it was hard to tell what they said. Then after I was into it, it didn't seem difficult any longer.

Garance, I was shocked by the ending too, even though I kind of figured it out because I was reading the reviews of it before it started. They had previews on Masterpiece Theatre on line. No more info here, I don't want do spoil for the others.
Lori, you will not regret getting the full STS series. It does take some planning though, unless you have all your equipment out and ready to use. Mine is easily accessible, so that wasn't an issue. I think I bought the tower, weighted gloves, weighted vest, that big "assisted pull up"..strap to do pull ups/downs ( no way I could do those on my own), and the pull up bar that goes in a doorway. Oh...and more risers so that I could use my step as a bench with the tower. I guess I bought a lot of stuff!

Hi to Josie,

Work, library, then NOTHING! Yay...
hello2.gif

More heavy duty yard work yesterday. we're almost done ripping out overgrown bushes and hauling them to a composting facility. Photinia ia a horrid plant to remove! got a load of gravel from the compost place for our half finished road. about two more loads of gravel should do it. will give us better traction when it's wet/muddy plus be a good mountain bike course to practice uphill riding.

later did HIIt plus core 1. I muddle through the step portions. would be better on a full size step but don't want to for the little step I do. on core 1 I'm trying to keep my feet totally off the floor during the banana rolls and the side to side move that follows, but not there yet. one foot at a time.

Deb, thinking we saw 2 seasons of Downton. it tends to be about 8 months before things get to netflix on disk. I need the subtitles on this one. I get most of it, but the subtitles are there and if I need them. sometimes netflix lists available date, but not usually until about a month before release. immediately there's a "very long" wait for the first disk. I wait until the popularity tapers down so I can get the whole series without delays once I start watching.

MIL's situation is unclear. heavily sedated on pain meds. we were told IV"s were stopped, but last night heard she was restarted at request of BIL. not sure if it's for easier pain control... she hasn't talked to anyone for several days. her older sister keeps calling us for info. I'm being nonspecific until we know for sure. she may need this high level ( totally zoned out) to control pain. her reg doc should be in today and maybe can bring us up to speed. we expect she will be discharged to a nursing home because no one could care for her at home like this.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact HiiT (38:56).

Valerie, yes, Game Change is the name of the book as well, written by a couple of reporters who followed the McCain campaign. Morning Joe is on MSNBC from 6-9 A.M. I usually watch it after I workout, shower, and while I'm having breakfast, so I don't see more than 45 min., but I can't stand the regular morning shows. Morning Joe has a conversational quality to it, with a lot of visitors from a variety of fields. I, too, am thinking of your MIL, especially after seeing Amour. Hey, I can do those banana thingies easily, but I wish there weren't so many of them.

Lori, I bought the tower, weighted gloves, and a weighted vest for STS.

Deb, I wonder how far ahead historically Downton will move in the next season. Maybe into the 1930s? The series reminds me a little of Ken Follett's trilogy on the 20th c. I've read the first two, and one more to be published. Reminded me of all the history I had forgotten while at the same time enjoyable to read for the characters.

Good evening ladies!

Like you Deb..no workout this morning. I absolutely could not get up. I reset the alarm and slept in till 6am. So no run or any cardio this morning. Was my intent to do Legs tonight when I got home but just not feeling it. Starting thinking about when was the last time that I completely took a rest day? No weights, no xtrain cardo, no run and no walking the dog???? Decided today would be a complete rest day...legs will be there for me tomorrow!

I think I may pass for now on buying STS. I really want to but I just do not have the space for more stuff! My workout room used to be in the basement, however, being the nice mom that I am...I gave up my space so my son can move downstairs and have his own space. I am now cramped into a spare room. Good size room but space is still limited. Some day he will be moving out and at that time I will reclaim my workout area.

Tomorrow morning I most certainly will be running on my treadmill while watching Downton then will do Legs in the evening!

Have a great night ladies!

Good morning & Happy Hump Day!

I was up at 3:30...could not sleep any longer as I had fallen asleep on the couch last night, then just went to bed and continued the long nap. Hence, the 3:30 wake up. So I got up and did a pre-mix from Cardio Leg Blast. I modify a lot on this one, but it's still ok.

Valerie, with the yard work you do, you don't need to do any workouts! If you had an iPad, or similar thing you could download all of any season of DA..for about $19.99...not sure what they charge for netfix etc, since I have never used that.

Garance, I hope they don't go too far ahead for the next season of DA. That was one thing I didn't like about season 3...it kind of jumped ahead in places, and left me wondering if I put in the wrong disk. I don't want to mention any specific part, don't want to spoil anything for those that are not done watching.

Lori, sometimes it takes your body to tell you to take that complete rest day, or if you don't you could end up with an injury that would sideline you for a while. Yes, STS can take up a lot of space..and uses a lot of equipment. That is one great thing about xTrain, the minimal equipment.

So what does everyone think of Cathe already getting ready to film another series? I'm not sure if I am ready to jump in to all the hype again, it seems like we didn't get a break at all.

Work, then agility class tonight...hope I can stay awake!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie and Lori--

This morning I did Burn Sets Chest, Back, and Shoulders (50:43).

Tomorrow I will substitute Afterburn for Tabatacise.

Deb, I will reserve judgment on this next series Cathe is planning. If it's just more of the same, I think I will skip it. I already have a lot of Cathe, and I'm thinking of repeating STS with other cardio. I do a lot of modification on Cardio Leg Blast too. If I couldn't modify on this one, I would just sell it as I did with Tabatacise. If they leap too far forward on DA, I think Maggie Smith would have to be dead. She hasn't aged for a lot of these years, and she was pretty old to begin with.

Lori, I think if you're crowded now, you are wise not to buy STS. One of the reasons it's a daunting series to do is that there is so much equipment. I really did get tired of dragging it all out--but I work out in my living room, and while a lot of the stuff is already there, the setup still takes awhile. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of the wind. It's awful here.

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Hi Ladies,

Had a nice long weekend and was able to just relax and spend time with my DD. My younger brother came over on Sunday with his DW and 3 daughters and stayed over until Monday night. I had not seen them since Christmas so, it was a nice visit. I did not workout on Sunday and Monday.

I’m down 10lbs in 6 weeks. I’m loving this program! I will be happy if I shed 6-8 more pounds.

Lori, you will like Insanity since to like to do TABATAS (sp).

Valerie, did you get the check?

Hi to Deb, Garance and Joan!

Josie

Josie, congrats on the weight loss. I'm doing weight watchers, and am feeling pretty good so far, my jeans are definitely looser, looser than just the 2 pounds I know I lost the first week. I had an intermedidate goal of 7.5 lbs set by WW, but I wanted to lose 10, see where it came off, and then reassess. thank you, just got the check. Enjoy the shoes!

Our exercise room is crowded too, and I'd like to get rid of the things we seldom use. more floor space would be nice. we have a weight machine that never worked well for me. think they are designed for bigger people. I'd like to sell it but it's heavy and would need to be taken apart. DH uses it a little. I don't like the idea of strangers coming inside the house to see it.
I also feel maxed out on workouts. I'm not sure I'll buy more, no matter what. I'd like to do STS again, and like the LIS a lot, and now with x-train? I mean, how many workouts can you use? I think they're more effective if you repeat them on a regular basis so you're not feeling like a newbie each time, so I don't think I want more at this point.

Deb, on netflix we pay for a 3 disk program. we go through as many as we want in a month, but only have 3 at a time. I don't have an Ipad or anything, and I don't want to watch on a teensy screen.

Good evening ladies!

Tonight I did Legs and used ankle weights during the floor work. Garance...are we on week 7 or 8? I noticed you did all out low impact and that is not in week 7 which is what I am doing. I think I maybe be doing week 7 twice!! That is pretty funny if I am!!!

I downloaded meso 2 legs disk #17 and think I will do this one in place of xtrain legs next week to try it out. It looks like a really great workout.

Valerie..I am with you with adding on more workouts. Right now I feel I have so many choices and very happy with my collection. The only thing I may add is Ride and cathe's other spin workout as I am toying with getting a spin bike. Saving my pennies for one. Still undecided though.

Josie...I just mentioned to my DH that I was going to give insanity another try. Not the entire program but after my rotation with Xtrain incorporate a few of them into whatever rotation I am doing.

Have a great night!!!

Good morning,

I feel a cold trying to come on....runny nose, itchy eyes etc. I will NOT let it take hold....already started on my favorite meds....hopefully caught it in time.

Garance, LOL about Maggie Smith...she makes the show...I love her cracks, especially the ones she says under her breath.

Josie, great job on the weight loss!

Valerie, so if Dowton Abbey season 3 is made up of 3 disks, would they all come together and it would count as your monthly total?

Lori, the STS workouts are all pretty good. I don't think I did the Plyo leg one...always stuck with the one where it was very heavy, used the vest and the tower...I think they were called squat rack workouts? I was pleasantly surprised at how good and easy it was to use the Travel Fit download on the iPad in my hotel room.

Work, then home to take meds and crash...
