Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, did the nail thing, went to the mall for a bit, came home then John and I went to our local Indian food restaurant for dinner.

Valerie, as long as the swelling is down and it appears to be healing you should be ok. If there is anything that comes from the use of the antibiotics you will know in a hurry. Just can\'t ignore any strange changes or have DR;s tell you "it will work itself out"..because with what I had, it doesn't.

Everyone must be having a busy weekend, hope all is well and there are no weather issues! A workout is on the schedule for me, then the house stuff I didn't get to yesterday. :)

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did Cardio and Weights again and then continued on with the firewalker sections from both LL&A and Flextrain. Felt like I hit every muscle doing this workout. Then once again had shovel max to deal with! We only had about 3 inches this time but still needed to shovel. Then had do get all the snow off that has built up on the roof of our shed. I am short so this was no easy task for me!

After all this it was errands then housemax. By the time my husband came home from work I was ready for bed! He is off today so we get to actually see eachother! :)

Indian food is such a treat for us. We have a restaurant we like to go to but it is an hour or so away. We only make it there when we happened to be in the area.

No plans today. Going to make a nice breakfast and then what ever we do after is spur of the moment! Sometimes days like this turn out reall fun.

Have a great day!

Each day fingers look better. the big issue is if fingers swell, there's very little room for "expansion". I took the day off yesterday because I must have tweaked something riding and had a very sore area on one leg. Deb, I am pretty resistant to diarrhea from antibiotics. I have no idea why but it's never an issue for me.
our cousin who lives near us is going thru the c. diff cycle too. he'd had sinus surgery and was on loads of antibiotics and ended up with c. diff. he is having a very rough time.

Can you think of the snow as an upper body workout? we haven't had to shovel anything this year. the big storm that hit Oregon/CA missed us completely.

we watched a documentary the other night called "20 feet from Stardom" I really enjoyed it. it's about the women who were backup singers & did vocals on records and live performances, often without credit.

Hi Ladies,

On Friday I decided to go for a walk at Venice Beach and ended up in Santa Monica at my favorite fish and chip restaurant and since we had been talking about sea food I could not resist and had some plus a 16oz Guinness :). I ended up walking 7 miles :).

Yesterday I did a 42 mile ride with lots of hills. It was rough but thanks to the body pump classes and hard core classes I was able to make it up every hill and my legs feel fine today.
I'm going to hard core class today and will take the day off tomorrow.

Valerie, I'm glad that your finger is better. It does not bother you when you work out?

Lori, I love days when my DH and I do things at the spur of the moment :).

Deb, I love Indian food but have not had any in quite a while. I'm going to have to find a restaurant that I can walk to like the fish and chip place and get my workout in at the same time ;)

Garance, are you going to your comfort dinner tonight?

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:15).

Housemax and snowshoeing yesterday and off to see Her this afternoon, then out to dinner at Mezze's. I am trying to see all of the Oscar nominated films except for the Wolf of Wall Street, which I am pretty sure not to like because of its misogyny--or at least that's what I've read.

Josie, it sounds like you will be in great shape for your big ride in June. I like my fish and chips with a lot of vinegar splashed on (love the astringency!) and not too greasy. Venice beach sounds like heaven after all the snow we have been having.

Lori, I guess we really lucked out on this last snowfall. I heard it hit the Cape but veered off to the northeast. Would not want to be in Maine, which has probably seen the worst of these last two storms.

Valerie, I will let you know if Her is any good. I have my doubts. Glad to hear your hand is so much better.

Deb, I love Indian food too but have not had it in a long time.

Hi to Judy!

I've got more computer time because I can't get a glove on for outdoor work and it's too dirty not to use gloves. a finger splint won't fit inside, and DH is adamant that I shouldn't get any dirt on the wound which is still open. . oh well.... DH can work by himself for a few more days. will do something indoors later.

Josie, it is on the top side of my right hand, middle and ring finger. grabbing weights doesn't bother it at all. It never got sore even when swollen. 7 miles ought to just about cover the calories in a Guinness.!

I also love Indian food and haven't had it in ages. don't like the smell that stays in my kitchen so we don't have it often.
a side effect from that movie... I have "da-doo-run-run-da-doo-run-run" stuck in my brain..

Lynda, I am so-so seeing "Her". Joachaim ( spelling?) Phoenix is an annoying person to watch... not sure why. He's okay in small doses but if most of the movie is him, I'm not so sure. "Wolf"... I'll probably watch it when I get the chance. It's a reminder of how far we've come.

Good morning ladies!

I am up but not working out. Yup I certainly know about the SSS Deb! Tossed and turned last night.

Well at least I had a great workout yesterday. Did Rockout Knockout using yhe heavy bad when I was able to. Did the first and second cardio sections, skiped the third and went onto the bonus heavy bag. Great workout!

Valerie..I agree with your husband and think you should not be doing any yard work. Love that he is watching out for you.

I like Joaquin phoenix. Not sure I would like HER though. Looking forward to the review Lynda.

Have a great day ladies!

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good morning,

sorry...posted on the wrong thread! That's what I get for not sleeping...

I had a horrible night's sleep...the SSS or "Sunday Sleepless Syndrome"...ugh...it's going to be a long day, and then we have a late class tonight...

Lori, you know about the SSS!

Valerie, I doubt it was MRSA....seems like a regular infection that is on the mend with the meds they gave you, so no chance that they need to change them again. I had taken 4 different wide spectrum antibiotics, I think that is what did it to me.

It's 2 degrees here now...not sure if it will get into double digits or not!

Work, then class tonight...take care.

good morning... another day in the house. raining wet, miserable, typical Feb. very stormy in the mountains, passes all closed. getting LOADS of snow up there now, but just rain down here. at least it doesn't require shoveling.

Deb, we'll never know what it was since they didn't culture it. they drew a blood culture but chances of that showing anything are about zip since I wasn't even slightly "sick" and my CBC was as normal as they get.
I am so fanatic about washing/ sanitizing after touching public surfaces.... will always wonder where this came from. it looks now like it started out, as two small scrapes on the tops of my fingers. several more days of antibiotics. if we go on a trip right after, I may refill them so if it's not completely gone I can continue treatment longer. no side effects at all. this is Bactrim and Keflex.

My right knee however is not happy. don't know what I did there but it's sore and I did a 30 min walk/run on the treadmill yesterday that made it worse. also did core 1 and pushups. sticking to upper body only the next couple days.

my fish gets Heinz chili sauce/ tabasco/ srihacha/ketchup in some combination depending on what they have available. I don't remember trying vinegar. I hate tartar sauce or 'ranch" type sauces.

I was able to be useful yesterday. DH was repairing an old chipper we use in the garden. will probably get some shopping done today just to get out of the house.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did GG, the premix with no ball (55:40).

Too bad about the SSS, Deb and Lori. Could also be the full moon, which I have heard makes it harder to sleep. When I got up Sunday morning it was still up there and had not set yet. Really pretty. Very cold here too--1 degree.

I had very mixed feelings about Her. My major reaction was one of discomfort mingled with disbelief. It is set in the future and this particular future looks very clean, modern (all the furnishings look like they came from an Ikea catalog and the apartments are all in glassy high rises), antiseptic and populated solely by humans who have technocratic jobs. It just didn't feel right to me, probably because I tend to think of the future as getting dirtier and more violent--I tend to believe more in dystopias than Marcuse's vision of everyone playing--no more alienated labor--because production of everything we need has been taken over by machines. Joaquin Phoenix writes letters for other people--that's his job. He just looks at the computer and says what the computer will write for him as he pretends to be someone else--e.g., a husband missing his wife, parents happy with their child's recent accomplishment. My discomfort was primarily a result of seeing everyone with an earpiece listening or chatting, in total alienation from everyone else, living in a private world with technology. I also did not find the idea of falling in love with an intuitive OS named Samantha very illuminating or whimsical. Spike Jonze just seems to meander with this idea. Disembodied sex took me back to the witty neo-platonic seductions in the poetry of many Renaissance poets (e.g., John Donne). The difference is that they knew it was a joke, while Jonze seems to be serious about it--the screen goes black and you just hear the voices of Theodore and Samantha orgasming. I won't tell you what happens in the end because it would be a spoiler. Irritating: we never really understand what went wrong with Theodore's marriage, although there are a couple gestures that I think were intended to shed light on this. One other thing--the clothes are just slightly off to signal that this really is a future time. The guys wear their pants really high. If this is the future, then Thoreau was right, except that it won't be just "most men," but everyone leading lives of quiet desperation.

That's my review. By the way, Valerie, I thought your spelling was funny. Joachim sounds like a Yiddish name to me. If you don't like Joaquin Phoenix to begin with, I suspect this is not the film for you because he is in virtually every frame of the film.

Phew! That was long. I had mussels again last night because they were so good, and half of a Scotch egg with slaw on the side. My usual Manhattan.

Lynda, thanks for the detailed review. Phoenix is (somehow) an annoying screen presence...knowing this much, I will likely skip this one. I wonder about these futuristic views that show a few people in isolated glassy buildings...... looks like the future will be packed solid with humanity and nothing else, hot, dirty, polluted.

we are watching a lot of the Olympics and enjoying every second. the only events I don't watch are ski jumping, and all events where someone lies on a sled of sorts and zooms down the icy tube. luge, skeleton, bobsled etc. I'm sure it takes nerve and skills, but boring as it can be to watch.

Good evening ladies!

Today is my rest day. Ended up working late so good this was a planned rest day.

Josie...a walk down Venice Beach sounds so nice right now. More snow for us tomorrow. The piles on the side of my driveway are so high you can't see my car when driving down the street. Starting to get concerned about the snow weight on our roof. Really building up there and the gutters are all iced over. Oh life in New England!

Lynda...thanks for the review. I am glad I decided to pass on this one. Does not interest me at all.

Valerie...still have not seen much of the Olympics. Been hearing all the recaps though and sorry I have missed all the skating. I love watching the pairs too. :(

Hi to Deb and Judy!

Good morning,

A late class last night, no workout today. I am still pretty tired, but did sleep better last night.

Watched my Downton Abbey DVD's until they were done, but found out that the last episode is not on them..?????? What's up with that? Not happy, and the Christmas special was not on them either. The last set I got had all the episodes and then some. This one does have a lot of cast and crew stuff, and the "how they film etc but I would rather have all the episodes...:(. At least I can watch it from PBS.

Valerie, hope your knee feels better.

Garance, you may be right about the full moon....but it happens almost every Sunday night for me. I can't hear the name Joaquin Phoenix without thinking of Kelly Ripa..and naming her son Joaquin.

Lori, we got more snow overnight too, but we do not have the amount that you have on the ground. It's supposed to get up to 50 Thursday, and now the big issue is flooding. Will this ever end?

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Work, then home to relax!

Brief check in this morning before yoga. I gimped around half the day yesterday and then suddenly it got better. by evening I didn't know I'd done anything at all. Pretty weird but I'll take it. just to be sure, I let it rest and did burn sets Ch,Ba,Sh plus core 1. after yoga today we may do something depending on the rain. showers are ok, serious rain, no.

Not long ago I was complaining and worrying about lack of snow. well, that has changed. we've gotten multiple feet of snow in the mountains this week. rain total is still short for this year but we are making it up. even CA got some but don't know how much.

Deb, that is always the worry... where is all the water going to go if it melts quickly.... glad you got some rest.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did PRS #1 (53:42).

Snowing again here, but not much accumulation. It sounds like a lot of it will melt come Thursday--which is absolutely fine by me.

Deb, I have been keeping up with Downton Abbey, and I wonder what you think about all the suitors for Lady Mary. I don't really understand why everyone falls head over heels in love with her as soon as they meet her. She's pretty, but not drop-dead gorgeous, and she seems very cool and snobby. Don't really get it. Poor Edith!

Valerie, I am pretty selective on the Olympics too. Mostly it's the skating and curling and some of the downhill skiing. Last night watched the dance team from USA. Absolutely wonderful! DH loves the curling, so we watch that together.

Lori, there's still the women's skating to watch, which should be fun.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

I think my favorite thing so far has been the Slopestyle snowboarding, men and women. a variety of different competitions. some stunts, some racing. Crazy when you see people racing and some face one way, and others the other way. surprised there aren't more collisions. I love ski racing ice skating, short track skating. even watched some hockey though I don't know the game rules, so confusing. I used to ice skate when I was young and never even mastered going backwards so the things people do on skates absolutely wow me. and all the while looking good and smiling!

One thing I've seen a number of times is when a microphone picks up private conversations... the person obviously isn't making a public statement or being interviewed, but the network picks it up and broadcasts it anyway. feels very snoopy and invasive. I imagine everyone is aware that this might happen but I wish it wasn't being done. Anyone else notice this?

Knee feels pretty good today but will give it a rest. maybe the spin bike, something with no impact.

Good evening ladies!

More snow today. Ugh. Received another 8 inches. Enough already!!! This morning I did Ruthless Speed Power Sweat and tonight I did P90x3 Synergistics which I really liked. All the girls have stopped doing P90x so I am going to continue on but add in some of the p90x3 workouts. I have been doing a mix match anyways so it makes no difference to me. When I finish P90x I'll move on to x2 and more mix matching. This seems to be working well for me. ;)

Valerie..great with your knee. Odd that it just felt better but hey that works! How is your hand?

Lynda...so last night we turn the olympics on to watch the ice dancing and we both fell a sleep and missed everything!! Oh well.

Deb...stinks about the Downton Dvd's. I still have sunday's episode to watch. I agree with Lynda about Mary. I do not get why every man falls for her either!!! Oh yes...and poor Edith. Can't wait to find out more.

Funeral is tomorrow. Will be driving 2 hours to New Bedford to pick up my brother then we will head over to Dartmouth for the funeral. Then drive the 2 hours back home. Will be a long day. I grew up in New Bedford and it is less than an hour from Cape Cod. Always fun to return home. Just wish under different circumstances.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did a long Cathe session- I did Muscle Endurance, then I did the ball and floor segments of XTrain Legs, then I did the short (30 minutes) premix of Pedal Power. It was a 2 hour workout and I don't think I will do that combination again anytime soon.

Valerie-I'm glad your finger is getting better.

Josie-Riding 42 miles is awesome! It sounds like you have a good training routine down!

Lynda-thanks for the review of Her. I had to look the movie up as I wasn't familiar with it. I'm not sure if I would like it or not. I might wait until Amazon has it and watch it that way.

Deb-sorry about Downton Abbey, I can't believe they didn't include the last episodes! I agree with Lynda about Mary, I like the character a lot but I don't understand why every man she meets falls for her. Poor Edith!

We got 3 or 4 inches of snow last night. I can't wait until this is over!

Lori-I'll be thinking about you tomorrow :( I know it will be a rough day.

Went to yoga this morning, then later today did Burnsets bi's and tris, core 1. so it's 2 hours total, but nothing like what you did Judy. wow.
Hand is fine and actually has been. really, no discomfort. kind of scary that something that could cause so few problems might be serious. cultures were neg. still wish I had some clue where it came from. doc said it wasn't Mrsa. I thought about it when I went to yoga this morning and no clues. the area infected doesn't contact anything there. but I know bacteria are easily transferred and are more resilient than they were in the past.

chiming in on DA... I think that people falling for mary is a plot technique to generate sympathy and a story line for Edith. I don't see Mary is so warm/friendly/gorgeous that everyone falls in love immediately ... and I haven't even seen this season!
that stinks that the last episode wasn't included... how frustrating after you've built up to the last episode!

Lori, hope things go well tomorrow.
