Good morning,

Today I did HIIT Back, Shoulders & Biceps...one of the shorter premixes. My HRM watch battery has been acting up, it was showing a 0.00 heart rate a few times when I was in Tucson, and today it wouldn't record for a bit. I need to get 2 new batteries for it. Makes me crazy, as you all know how anal I am about recording things. :).

It's -7 here right now....I think the high today is supposed to be -1. YIKES!

Judy, glad you are feeling better and the stretching seems to be working.

Lori, I can't believe how your area is getting slammed with snow! The workout you did ( Boot camp) was Cathe's first Live workout, but you did it using the Live feature? So all of her LIVE workouts are out there for you to use at your convenience, am I getting this right finally? LOL

Hi to Lynda, Josie, & Valerie,

We have our dog club awards banquet this evening....wonder how many will show up with this weather,

Stay warm!

Good morning ladies!

Just had breakfast and thinking about which workout to do. I guess I won't know until I go to my workout area. Leaning towards barre. All this snowmax I have been doing my upper body certainly has been worked!

Deb...it is so terrible now. Even Chester is struggling to go out. He still does but it is not easy for him. In all my years living here I have never seen this. It might not be the most total inches in a winter but it certainly is the most falling in a relatively short period of time not allowing for anything to melt so it is just piling up. Yes you are correct with the live workouts. Once she films and posts the workout it is there for you to choose whenever you want. She has quite a collection now She started in May of last year. I absoluely love her live classes. To me they are fun and motivating.

Well I brought back all my cable boxes yesterday and came back with 4 HD boxes, local channels only and double the strength of our internet. No DVR's. We bought 2 ruko devices to stream netflix and amazon prime and we have bluray players that stream. Our cable bill has gone from 273.99 to 110.50. If we feel we are missing a dvr we will buy one instead of using the comcast provided one. I do not think we need one though. So we will see how this goes. Very happy with the outcome!

Have a great day all!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did BarreAmped Bootcamp (68 min.).

Yes, Deb, Abs 1 starts off standing. I much prefer it to Abs 2.

Good for you, Lori, on getting your cable bill down. We have Time Warner, and it's definitely creeping up, but we don't really have any other option than Direct TV, which we might do in the spring. I doubt anyone could deal with installing a satellite dish in this weather. I think we got about 4 inches, but it's drifting because of all the wind. DH plows and plows and then plows some more. If you look at East Mountain Farm's Facebook page, there's a series with an old bike leaning up against our lower barn, and it gradually disappears in the mounting snow. Max still manages to get around with all the tractor tracks and plowing. He also seems to enjoy bouncing like Tigger through the snow.

Judy, I hope your hip is feeling better after you see a chiropractor. Maybe all you need is one of those "adjustments" they always talk about. I have never been to a chiropractor, but I know a lot of people swear by them.

Yes, the mantra for today is STAY WARM!

Hi Judy....so sorry it is your hip that is bothering you. For some reason I thought it was your back. I do hope you get relief soon. You have hip issues before didn't you?

Today I did do Suzanne Bowen Barre. 3 segments with the last was supported barre so I used my wall mounted one. Great workout. We then did snowmax and I'll have to say all this snow has finally broke us. Today was hard.

Lynda...poor Chester. He really wanted to walk today but I just do not have the energy. I'll check the bike out. Amazing how much snow we got.

Have a great day all!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday it was so cold, with wind chills of -30 below. We didn't go anywhere. It's supposed to stay cold all week.

I've been taking it easy and my hip is feeling a little better. The adjustment I got Saturday seemed to help. I will try to get another one later this week. The chiropractor suggested I not do any lower body weight workouts for a week, to see how the adjustment holds up. I did RWH Plyo 1 last Wednesday and I'm thinking that might have been what pushed my hip/sciatica over the edge.
Yesterday I did a very easy 30 minutes on the bike, very low heart rate. I felt better after that. I might try that and light stretching again today. It's definitely not worse, so that's good.

Deb-great job with RWH! I hope to get back to those before too long.

Lori-yes, I've had ongoing issues with my hip for a long time. I did see an orthopedic doctor in 2012, they did an X-ray and said my hips and knees were fine,(no arthritis) but that I had some arthritis in my low back. I'm sorry about all of the snow, I hope you don't get anymore this year.

Lynda-I just looked at your bike photos on FB. That is a lot of snow!

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Judy

Hi Ladies,

I have not worked out since Friday. I started getting sick again on Wednesday night, but managed to workout on Thursday. I've had a runny nose and a dry caugh. I was able to sleep last night without coughing and the runny nose :)

I may go out for a walk today and start over tomorrow with spinning and Karina.

Stay warm ladies!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:16).

Deb, I started Amazon Prime again because they had a $72 special yearly rate. FYI, they have a new series which I love because I have read all of the Michael Connelly mysteries with hard-boiled LA detective Harry Bosch. It's really good--a continuous mystery over 10 hour-long episodes.

Judy, I hope your adjustment lasts and you can get back to your RWH workouts soon. Yep--it's supposed to be cold all week here with yet another dusting of snow tomorrow.

Lori, it doesn't sound like this next little storm will hit you the way the last ones have. They are still going with the Roman names in alphabetical order. I wonder what George Carlin (the "hippy-dippy weatherman") would have made of that.

Josie, did your peanuts give you something again?

Hi Lynda,

Yes they did :(. I don't understand how their mom does not keep them home when they are sick. She could have postponed the trip another week,

Good morning,

I was not able to post yesterday, apparently our router crapped out and it took us all talking to 3 different Time Warner techs to figure out what the issue was. We ended up hooking the modem directly into the computer, bypassing the router. Now we need to get a new one, and go through all that. Computers!

It was -10 degrees yesterday all day. We have not had this kind of weather in decades! It's 0 here now, a heat wave! :)

Lori, that's great that you got that cable bill down so much! It feels great doesn't it? Poor Chester, and he so much likes his outside activities.

Lynda, funny how different dogs are. Ours hate it outside, I have to basically shove them out the door, and am suspicious that they are not even doing anything before they want to come back in. I never saw a $72 special for Prime. :( What is the name of the Harry Bosch series? I like those books. Speaking of books that you and your DH would really like, try "Rose in a Storm" by Jon Katz. It reminds me so much of your farm and Max. It's all about the relationship the farmer has with his border collie on the farm. A really good read.

Judy, is it actually the muscle that is painful ? or the hip joint?

Josie, sorry you are sick again. Maybe you went back to regular stuff too soon?

Deb-I think it's muscular. It feels like a really tight piriformis muscle and I've been have symptoms of sciatica.
I took another rest day yesterday, and just did an extended stretch last night.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RWH ba, sh, bis (52:28).

Deb, I bet that was frustrating. I hate when we have to call Time Warner--for anything! The series is just called Bosch. It's really good. I have heard of that book, and people frequently look at Max and think he is a border collie, but border collies are very aggressive herders compared to English shepherds. Max is also easily distracted compared to the intensity of concentration on a border collie. DH has been very careful in this cold weather not to let Max stay out too long, even though Max doesn't seem to mind. His coat this year is super-thick. I inherited my sister's miniature Schnauzer when she died, and she didn't like the cold weather either. She also had tons of snowballs on her feathers, which might account for her eagerness to get business done and come back inside.

Josie, I hope you shake this off quickly so you can get back to your workouts.

Judy, I thought sciatica was a nerve thing. DH had some problems with sciatica--intermittent numbness in one leg and a lot of back pain. Then he had an epidural, and it was like magic. The doctor said the inflammation of a nerve was causing all of his issues.

Hi to Lori and Valerie!

Good evening ladies!

Been really cold here the past few days. Yesterday was a rest day. I teally needed to rest my body. The shoveling has been really tough and I was feeling it. As strong as I am it exhausted me. It is really hard now to do any shoveling since I now have to lift each shovel of snow high above my body to put it anywhere. That is what is doing me in. The good news is we have gone 2 days with out new snow!!!

This morning I did a Ruthless workout and tonight I did RWH Legs, premix with weight only.

Deb....this was the first time I tried out this premix and I thought it was a great quick workout. Really felt worked when I finished. I'll be doing this again!

Lynda...I checked out the FB page and enjoyed the pictures. The farm looks so nice. I have not read those Books but have heard they were good. I have been looking for a good series so perhaps I'll put this one on the radar.

Judy...hope you are better and back to those Spinervals really soon.

Josie...Well that was not a nice gift they left for you! Hope you too are felling better soon!

Hi to Valerie!!!!

Good morning and Happy Hump Day!

I can't wait for this week to be over. Then only one more week to go.

Judy, do you do specific Piriformis stretches? I had that once and one stretch that I found really helped. It's the one down a little in this article: http://www.spine-health.com/wellnes...and-exercise-sciatic-pain-piriformis-syndrome

Lynda, thanks for the name of the series, I will look into it once we get the new router hooked up so I can use the iPad again. I am really getting into the British shows on PBS...I am watching something called The Vicar of Dibley, and it's pretty funny. I love any that are about a small town and the characters. Like Doc Martin....speaking of Doc Martin, have you heard if they are coming out with a new season soon? I think I will have to Google that. Also catching episodes of Faulty Towers, but I can only take a couple of those at a time, then I take a break from them.

Lori, no snow for 2 days! It's a record! I hope it's done for good now. Your area, and all around there have definitely been slammed this winter.

Hi Ladies,

I went spinning yesterday and it was tough, so I just did my best. Karina came over ant took it easy on me and today I decided to skip bootcamp. Tomorrow I plan on doing a 3 mile run/walk with my friend and the working out with Karina.

I forgot to mention that my DD is moving out :(. I'm going to miss her, but it's time for her to start her own life.
She is moving to Hollywood which is not that far from us and she will have a roommate. She has known her roommate since high school and through college and she is just as ambitious and my DD. Its an exciting time for both of them :)

Deb. I can't believe that you only have a week before retiring. The time went by so fast! I know that you are happy :)

Lori, glad that you did not get any more snow for two days. Your upper body is going to look awesome in a tank top ;) My grandkids did leave me a present, but who can resist all the hugs an kisses :)

Judy, did you change your workout shoes recently. I had the same problem with my hip when the company that makes Asics changed the model of the shoes that I used to run in.

Hi to Valerie and Garance!

Josie

I'm back!. it's not winter anywhere on the west coast. it was very warm in CA.
we first went to Pinnacles NP and saw condors. not hard to spot along with loads of other interesting birds. we did a couple hikes, one up high to the pinnacles area where we saw more condors. they are HUGE. on the way down we ran into a park guy and asked about a big cage we found near the trail. the park has fenced its perimeters because much of CA is infested with feral pigs. descendants of a cross breeding with Spanish pigs from long ago and another species. we weren't aware even though we've hiked and done lots in CA before. so we thanked him, and he headed on and we did too. about 5 minutes later I looked up at a close by ridgetop area where we'd looked for condors and saw two very large forms moving across the hill top. grabbed my binocs and sure enough, both DH and I saw 2 gigantic wild hogs. they looked as big as elk with short legs. WOW. what a coincidence.
then on to Morro Bay. it's central CA coast. very interesting place but too busy for us, especially over the weekend. Millions of shore birds, from sandpipers to curlews. sea otters with pups up very close, like 15 feet away!. elephant seals... loads of them. along with sea lions, harbor seals. we walked a lot of places, mt biked a little but not as much as expected. very warm, very open and exposed areas and loads of poison oak. not a good place to fall or even go thru brush with exposed legs. we kayaked a little too. we did a hike with our niece and about 50 feet from the top I noticed the p.oak in a very steep spot, very hard to avoid. m it was growing all we scrubbed off after and no one developed a rash, at least not yet.
Came home last night, total of 18.5 hours of driving. in two sections. it's not winter here. everything is bursting into bloom, has been in 50's and 60's. no snow in the mountains. ski areas are closed or only partially open. I'm sorry to say.... you eastern folks got it all (and continue to get it) this year. people are doing summer type hiking here already.
Anyway it was quite warm the whole time. even the ocean water was warm and we kayaked in shorts. it was a shock to be in shorts and nylon shirts, and still be too warm. I haven't read the whole thread yet..will shortly.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie (welcome back!), Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did After Burn (54:00).

That sounds like a great trip, Valerie, with a lot of wild life to see. I saw the California condor in the Safari Park in San Diego. What a big red ugly head! I agree--they are ginormous! Wish we had some of your weather. It's 20 degrees here, and given recent temps, this actually feels balmy.

Glad you are feeling better, Josie. I remember when you were looking at colleges with your DD. Hard to believe that so much time has passed since we started this thread.

Deb, congrats on your retirement! For some reason I thought it was April. I will check out the Vicar of Dibley. I think Doc Martin will have just one more season.

Lori, I agree with Josie. Your upper body is going to look great after all that snow shoveling. I see that people in Boston are behaving a bit oddly--jumping out of windows in their underwear to land in the big piles of snow. Crazy!

Hi to Judy!

Good evening ladies,

This morning was ruthless workout and no workout tonight. For some odd reason I did not sleep well last nigh and it decided to hit me driving home tonight. Wow was tough to stay alert. Hate that feeling. Put the air in full blast to keep me awake.

Lynda...rest assured I am not jumping in the snow in my underwear!!! Those are a bunch of crazy kids doing this. The Mayor even addressed it during his recent speach to stop it. You have heard the saying youth is wasted on the young!!!

Josie....lol on the upperbody! Considering with the amount we have I will be shoveling this crap up until summer so I guess you are right my upper body will be amazing by then!!!!! Actually, in all seriousness, I thought it was my imagination this morning but I really thought my upper body was looking really good!!!

Deb...wow that went by really fast!! So happy for you. One more week. That is just awesome.

Judy...are you working? Or am I only one!!!!!! Oh I need to really get my act together.

Josie...it was so sad for me when my DS moved out. We are very close and it was difficult for me. Lately I have been converting old video into DVD and then making little clips of special events....1st birthday, 1st trip to Disney...etc. so of course doing this gets me all emotional...one minute they are babies..next they are moving out!!!

Valeie...welcome back!!! Your trips sounded so nice and you had beautiful weather too. I have never seen a condor up front. And the other wild life you saw! Amazing. Sounds like you had a great trip and very active too!

Have a great night all!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did an easy 45 minute indoor bike ride. Then I did a lot of stretching. Today I was able to do a 50 minute Spinerval.
It's been a week since I did any lower body weight training so I think I'm ready to start back up, carefully. I saw the chiropractor again and am going back Friday for another adjustment and a massage.

Deb-Congrats on retiring! Only 1 more week!
Thanks for the link to the stretches. I've been doing some of them and I can tell how tight that muscle is. I also ordered a foam rolling DVD from Spinervals. I seem to be more consistent with stretching if I am following Cathe's stretching so I thought I might get more use out of my foam roller if I have a DVD to use with it.

Josie-actually, I did work out in new shoes last week. I bought a pair of Brooks Adrenaline running shoes to use for plyometric and cardio workouts, since the other pair I was using didn't have much support. I only used them 2 or 3 times last week but that might have been enough to throw me off.

Lynda-I think my tight piriformis/glute muscles are pressing on the sciatic nerve and causing me to have some of those symptoms. I probably still need to go to an orthopedic doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.

Lori-no, I'm not working yet. I did sign up for an Excel class online (Skillsology) and I'm planning on signing up for an income tax preparation course.

Hi to Valerie!

Judy
