Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/7

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did Legs from the new series and wow. Gets you good. Loved it. Weights and plyo. My cup of tea. It is about 40 minutes which is a perfect for the morning. I like my morning workouts to be under 45 minutes. Tomorrow is a rest day according to the rotation but I am going to do a SB barre workout in the morning. I do not want to go without Barre during this series.

Deb...what a cutie! Which one is this? I can not tell your doggies apart. I would also buy one of those if you are selling. Chester would love it. That is awesome that John used to do step. Does he work out with you at all now? I am going to reveiw the low impact ones tonight.

Josie....lol about using your gym membership more. I envy you ladies that get your DH to workout with you. Still have hope for my DH!

Valerie...I hope the yoga places expands a bit. I would not like that it was that crowded. Plus I would pass out if the room is too warm. We have a separate heat zone for the basement where my workout room is and I keep the temp at 55 degrees. Usually I am a sweaty mess after most workouts. Take it slow like you are. You'll be back in the game in know time.

Lynda...I am going to start reading Unbroken tomorrow. I hear you about the tears. I am preparing myself for many tears with this one. I really like the bonus core workouts with this series.

Judy...I was thinking what Lynda wrote too!!!! You must have some awesom padded bike shorts!!!

Have a great night all!

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did RWH- Bonus Abs 1 & 2 and Lift It HiiT It Back, Biceps & Shoulders. That was a great workout! I can't believe how heavy Cathe was lifting. I'm not even close to most of her weights but now I have something to work towards. I am so happy that I preordered this series! The music is great, so far I have loved the workouts and they are definitely challenging. I haven't normally done rotations but I think I will be doing an RWH rotation.

Lynda & Lori-I don't really get sore from riding. I do wear padded bike shorts, and I use a normal road bike seat on my indoor bike. I think I've been doing it so long that I just got used to it. Actually my upper back and shoulders get more sore from the longer rides. I probably need to adjust my position on the bike.

Valerie-I have my first colonoscopy next week. I will be glad to have it over with. I know the prep day will be unpleasant.

Deb-what a cute photo! I love your dogs!

Josie-When I was going to a gym it was a Golds, back in Iowa. They are great gyms! Great job with the Body Pump and Spinning Classes!

Not sure what tomorrow's workout will be. Maybe an hour of spinning then another RWH workout on Friday.

Judy

Good morning & Happy "Sliding Towards the Weekend Thursday"!

I did the HIIT Leg workout this morning, a premix that has only the strength parts, no Blasts. Great leg workout, and only 30 minutes. !
banana016.gif

Valerie, I don't think you will be going back to that class, you sound like it really was not what you enjoyed before. That's too bad, because that is hard to duplicate with DVD's. The picture is of Keegan. Hope all goes well with your DH today. Have you decided on the type/size etc of flooring you are having installed?

Josie, LOL about your DH driving you crazy...at least he is interested in working out with you. Did you get any of the new DVD's?

Lynda, I would bet there are longer premixes for any of the workouts, you know Cathe! She likes to torture people who enjoy it. :). I will make and send Max a toy, you don't have to buy it! If he likes to play tug and /or fetch, he will enjoy this. Plus, they can chew on them without any parts breaking off!

Lori, kudos to you for doing the complete HIIT Leg workout, I wimped out and did the strength parts only premix. Didn't think I was ready for plyo blasts. I really liked it a lot. Same for Chester, PM or e-mail me your address and I will send him a toy. Yes, John used to work out, but with the vertigo, and all that, he doesn't do much except when he goes fishing, there is a lot of walking up streams etc. He has to use a walking stick in case he loses his balance.

Judy, I agree, this series is going to be one of my favorite Cathe series. I like the shorter workouts, the 5 day/week rotations etc. She outdid herself with this one. You are amazing with the amount of spinning you can do at one time. Those challenges are well...very challenging! LOL.

It's snowing really hard here now, hope it stops a bit by the time I have to drive to work....

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did the new ch, sh, tris with core 1 premix (47:58). I don't know what the point of going so fast is. Is it just because she wanted to make shorter workouts? This felt like a very hurried version of Burn Sets--3 exercises for each body part, 3 sets of each exercise, followed by what she calls "finishers." I thought she said the pauses between sets in Burn Sets and STS were meant for strength-building, so this must be a different technique with a different intent (aerobic??), because she just slams through these sets and pushes you to the finishers without a break. Frankly, I'm a bit puzzled. No way could I do her weight on some of these.

Finally this storm seems to have settled down. It's very pretty with all the snow laden trees and bushes, but it sounds like it will be melting over the weekend.

Deb, Max will be thrilled with a new toy. Thanks so much!

Now I'm scared about the Leg workout. I will probably do a premix without the plyos or sell this one. Tomorrow I will try a low impact Hiit with the Core 2. Core 1 ends with some seriously challenging plank work. I liked it very much.

Good evening ladies!

I decided on a rest day. My shoulders were still feeling the heavy weights from the other day. Been I while since I went this heavy so I am paying for it. Tomorrow I think it is one of the Low Impact ones so looking forward to this.

Deb..thanks for the dog toy. Chester will love it. I bet just the weight premix was great. Good to know it's about 30 minutes. I forgot about the vertigo with your DH. You mentioned this at some point. Is this something that will eventually go away?

Lynda...the leg one is tough with the plyos as she gives you no breaks. You move quick..weights, plyo, weights, plyo and so on till done. I agree with you about the weight workouts moving fast too. I don't mind though as I like to move thru them. So different from xtrain and sts. So glad the weather seems to be breaking. I am done with the rain and ice already!

Judy...I am doing the 2 month rotation then the 1 month with low impact. I like that they are 5 days so I can incorporate some heavy bag and barre in there too. Good luck on the colonoscopy. I had my first this year and it was no big deal. I have my mamogram on Monday :(

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Good morning,

Today I did 35 minutes of Cardio Coach on the treadmill. Whew....

Lynda, I didn't notice HIIT Legs being fast....maybe without the blasts it seems slower? I may try it with the blasts this coming week. I just needed to get in a leg workout and thought I would try it out. I think you will like it without the blasts.

Lori, no, John's vertigo, is a lot better, but it will probably never go away. It's much better since he had the ear surgery, he just loses his balance, because he is now deaf in one ear and I guess that throws you off. At least he doesn't get the "room spinning, falling, vomiting" episodes any longer!

Judy, you will be fine with the colonoscopy, the worst is the prep, then you are starving afterwards. I get mine done really early in the Am, then go out for breakfast immediately! Kind of like a reward. :).

Hi to Josie, & Valerie,

Work, then agility class tonight,

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

Hi Ladies,

I was supposed to go spinning this morning, but its a big mess out there. It's been raining since midnight and it has not stopped. There are a lot of road closures because of flooding and mud slides happening through out LA due to the previous fires. I will probably do the body beast total body workout later today.

Deb, I have a Christmas party to go to tomorrow evening. My DD and I are going to go buy out tree and maybe do some shopping. I did not buy any of the new DVD's, I have enough workouts to keep me busy.

Judy, I don't wear padded pants when I spin, but do wear them when I ride outside. I don't like the shorts because the cut my circulation, I prefer the capri pants by Canari.

Lori, do you use heavy weight when you work your shoulders? I need to use light weight when I do body pump otherwise I will hurt myself. My shoulders are my weakest part.

Hi to Garance and Valerire!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Low Impact 1 with Core 2 (38:16). A good workout, but I will have to do something else for those surfer squat thrusts, or whatever they are called--maybe mountain climbers.

Deb, this weekend DH has his holiday market on Sunday and I will probably go see The Theory of Everything, which has received such good reviews. Then we are going out to dinner on Sunday night. Mezze's has started their comfort Sunday meals. I finished decorating the tree this morning. We have collected so many ornaments over the years, including our sons' school efforts, that it takes over an hour to load them on. Love it, though. It looks great, festive. My DH is deaf in one ear and has been since he was born. I always walk on his right side (his good ear) and feel uncomfortable walking with anyone on their left side because of this. I know you are always interested in the next best wrinkle cream. Dr. Brandt has a new one called Needles No More that is supposed to be very effective. It's already sold out at Sephora, so I am on the hunt for it.

I used a 25 lb barbell for overhead presses and upright rows yesterday, and 8s and a 12 and 5s for Cathe's other shoulder work. No doms there, but a lot of doms in my chest and tris.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Checking back in after a little break.... we had a heck of a windstorm last night. lost power very briefly and lost phone and internet service, and that means the TV too. lots of rain and wind.. the same one Josie talked about, just a day later. It's rained a lot the last 3 days but wind didn't get going until later last night, after 8, and so newspapers really didn't have a lot of detail yet. plenty of people without power but we lucked out.

Not sure about the yoga thing. could not go yesterday morning because of DH's colonoscopy which went well. the pathology report won't be back for a week or so. Judy, the test is a waste of time & money if your prep isn't good, so do follow all directions, especially on the 'clear liquids" day which is fairly miserable.
My shoulder is about the same. better than at first but sort of holding steady at a low level of discomfort as long as I don't do much with it. sleeping continues to be troublesome as I want to sleep on my side and it wakes me up because it hurts. I upped my NSAID dosage to "full dose" which I usually don't take. I will go in next week for a cortisone shot if I don't get significantly better in the few days.
we are going to bike tomorrow, either road or mountain and that will be a test of progress. sunday we want to hike since it will be mild and sunny. most of the early snow has melted so it's back to wet fall conditions.
we decided on some other materials for the bathroom and are waiting on a bid. bid received, and we have decided the company we will use. plumbing fixture order went in today, plumber here next week. DH and I will paint the closet and install white coated wire shelving probably Rubbermaid. we were in Home Depot today trying to figure out the Closet Maid system and the loudspeaker music ( Christmas music at about 120 decibels) was so loud I finally complained....not that it will help. It drove us out of the store.... too loud to even think straight! what makes HD think this is a good idea?? It was ridiculous! I complained.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did about 40 minutes of SB barre. And that's all for today. The plan was to do the low impact 2 but came home and DS was visiting. He just stepped out to pick his GF up so I hopped on here to see what's going on. Tomorrow is a weight workout so I'll tag on the low impact after to keep with all the workouts in this week's rotation.

Josie...I have been having on and off shoulders issues so it does not take much for one or both to be sore. I usually always go lighter than Cathe but I did increase what I normally do for this new workout and really felt it in my left shoulder more than I liked and wanted to baby it a bit to avoid injury.

Lynda....I like the surfer squats. Funny I dislike mountain climbers! Was nice to see the sun today. Hoping rain is gone for a while. How did you like the core workouts? I have only done the one and liked it alot. I'll look up Needles no More. Your tree sounds beautiful. Good for you with the weights. I do not like using a barbell so I use 10's and 12's for overhead presses. Depending on how my shoulder feels I may drop to 8's (which is most times!) I like the way my shoulders and arms look from all the heavy bag so I am ok with the lighter weights.

Valerie..glad your DH made out well. I completely feel for you with your shoulder. When mine is acting up the pain is a dull one. Not to bad but enough just to bug me. I really should have it checked out. Of course I think of it when it is bothering me but when it feels fine for a while I keep thinking all is good. Yeah for making a decision on some of the bathroom materials!

Deb...I can't imagine ear surgey! Poor guy. Well at least it is better. I always thought vertigo just kind of came and went. Didn't realize it can stay with a person. Does he drive? Or did he have to give that up or does it not make a difference while driving?

Hi to Judy! Can't wait to hear how you like the new workouts!

Tomorrow after I workout going to try and bump out most of my christmas shopping. Going to a friends house party in the evening and then Pats game on Sunday so this pretty much is my weekend.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did RWH Plyo 1 and Bonus Abs 1. I wanted to do a full body workout so I did Muscle Endurance after. I really liked Plyo 1. I like how short it is, and I can do this one without too much modification. I cheated by using my mini step mat instead of the full size mat. That definitely made it a little easier. I don't think Plyo 2 will be as easy and I'm not sure I'll even try it right away. I really like this series so far. It feels a lot like XTrain, fun and no dread factor. I also like being able to combine the shorter RWH workouts with other workouts.

No special plans this weekend. Probably more work around the condo and getting ready for Christmas.

Thanks for the encouragement about the colonoscopy. I'm not looking forward to it but it will be nice to have it done. Mon-Wed should be pretty normal workouts but Thursday is my "prep" day so I don't think I'll be having a normal day or working out much. I don't usually fast so it will be hard for me to not eat. I'm going to follow all of the instructions though, since I don't want to have to do this again anytime soon.

Good morning,

Happy Weekend!

Lots of HouseMax to do this weekend. Along with making the dog's food etc. I had Kylee's re-check on her urine yesterday, and there were still fragments of crystals, they couldn't tell what kind. No white blood cells, so the infection has cleared up, but still some blood. Not good. We are having an ultrasound done on Thursday to see if there are any stones. :(.

Josie, have fun with DD getting the tree etc.

Lynda, I do the same thing with John! I walk on his left side, ( good ear) and am always finding myself wanting to switch to that side when walking with anyone else! They have Needles No More at Amazon....pretty expensive. where did you read about it?

Valerie, you have me intrigued with the Closet Maid system. Is it something you can install in a regular bedroom closet? Mine is so tiny thought...horrible to try to keep organized.

Lori, you have a jam packed weekend ahead! Vertigo does come and go....and he is pretty much over that part., Mostly the balance thing is what he has now. Yes, he can drive, but it was scary before the surgery.

Judy, you will be better off not working out the day of your prep. Especially when you are drinking the awful stuff they make you drink.

Will check back later.....

Take care,

Judy I'd say skip working out on prep day. you will likely spend MUCH time in the bathroom in the afternoon. check your prep directions. DH didn't notice that he could have only plain fluids from afternoon on, and he should have had more jello and fruit juice in the morning. there are different preparations depending on doctors preference. DH got what's called the Miralax prep. it's a large amount of the OTC powder ... tasteless, dissolves completely in lemon lime Gatorade. I had that once too but it didn't work on me even though I followed it exactly. that's why I'm saying ... do the prep precisely so you're done with it (hopefully) for 10 years. for my second one I got the Golytely which is rather foul stuff.... rather an understatement..... :(

Deb, even small closets can be upgraded there are several brands of products. Elfa ( The Container Store) is nicest and by far priciest. Closet Maid (Home Depot) is next. Lowes has Rubbermaid brand. we're using Rubbermaid. we have a big closet and they make a sliding rod and shelf system that will work best for us. we've used the coated shelving in the laundry rom and the kitchen pantry but it was 20 yrs ago and the choices are much better now. most of it is not hard to install once you decide what will work for you and what fits. need a drill, level, hammer, tools to cut the shelving. I think there are some pre packaged "systems" to fit standard size closets. our is a funny irregular shape but quite large. I have some free standing Elfa drawer systems that I've had for ages, will put them back in the closet under the shelves. we don't have any kind of dresser, I use the drawers.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning was Housemax. A lot of vacuuming with the tree decoration.

Deb, there was an article in December Vogue about Needles No More. It's by Dr. Brandt, and no, they do not have it yet at Amazon. The reviewer in Vogue was pretty amazed at how it "blurs" forehead lines and crow's feet. Botox in a bottle, which was his intent. They have sold it out at Sephora, where the reviews were equally laudatory. I will try there again later in the month. It's 89 dollars. I think someone at ebay is selling it for a lot more.

Josie and Valerie, I've heard the west coast is really getting hit hard with wind and rain. DS says California can really use it because of drought conditions, but when it's this much, I guess it causes a lot of problems. Valerie, that was my major problem--at night my shoulder would ache and keep me awake and I didn't want to take too many ibuprofen.

Judy, I think I've had 3 colonoscopies, and the best prep for me was a pill of some kind followed by drinking a ton of water. The liquid stuff I couldn't finish because I started to gag and throw up. I didn't mind the fasting so much. I sort of like popsicles.

Lori, yes, bring on some sun! It's been so gray here.
