Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/6

Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, I got the dog's food processed, and some dog club stuff out of the way.

Lori, I Googled a fiber optic tree...wow...so pretty!

Valerie, do you have the type of watch that you can change, or have the battery changed? Maybe it's the watch and not the chest strap?

Lynda, good that you are waiting, either way. :). Yes I remember a series that was a disaster, and it was delayed for a month or more, so maybe she is being very careful with the replicator. I remember one Christmas where we decided to use every ornament we had, (usually pick out the favorites)...and it was probably the best decorated tree we had. LOL on the "barf" ornament...I love looking at and remembering the ones from the past.

Valerie, that's too bad that the only 2 good days next week will be the days your DH has the procedure. John bought a stationary bike on his lunch hour yesterday....so I guess my Christmas list is not complete. :) completed. I have not even seen it. It will be delivered and set up on the 23rd.

Judy, Cathe's talk was ok....mostly stuff we have all read in the newsletter or blog. I did but the new larger stability ball and am sitting on it right now as I type. I like that it forces you not to slouch and I can't cross my legs. I always cross my legs and end up with hip pain...so hoping this helps that too. I got the 75cm one...my regular one that I use for workouts is 55cm. Did you listen to any others? I did the Hypnosis one and she was pretty good.

Hi Josie!

Agility class this morning, then errands....

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I woke up with a sore throat yesterday. I couldn't eat much and didn't do any workouts. DH was fighting something last week and I think I caught it. I don't have a fever, so that's good at least.

Deb-that is a nice bike! I can't wait to see how you and your DH like it! I haven't listened to any of the other talks but probably will today. I also cross my legs when I sit at the computer and have been trying to get out of that habit as I know it aggravates my hip & piriformis issues.

Valerie-I like that bike rack. You are right, they need to be able to secure the bikes so they are worth the cost. We had a Saris Bones rack several years ago and ended up selling it because we just didn't feel like it was secure enough.

Lynda-thanks, I think I would love working in a vet clinic. I'm sure there are some aspects that would be difficult or unpleasant but I believe it would be very rewarding overall.

Lori-I know what you mean, I always want to bring animals home with me. Supercuts sounds like a good one, I will try it soon.

Josie-Hope everything is going well!

Judy

Good morning. Deb, that is a slick looking bike. Hope it works for both of you. My advice would be to set it up somewhere you can watch TV or a DVD while riding. I velcro the remotes ( I need 2) to a small board so it can set on the handlebar area. I want to be able to adjust volume, channel without getting off.

Judy, you are so right about rack quality. we use ours a lot so we got a solid one. this is supposedly a 3 bike rack..... dream on..... even the road bikes are jammed if you put them next to each other. the mt bikes would never fit, even facing opposite ways. . that's why we bought a "3". we can load bikes with a space between them.
best to take some down time. I get over a virus faster if I rest and sleep, drink fluids. I use zinc and vitamin c.

Deb, I had a wrist watch at one time but something happened to it. I have several chest straps and only can get a readout when I'm on a machine, and then it's spotty. I will check utube about replacing battery. ETA I think mine is an older model, flat, doesnt look like it comes apart. I used to mail them back to polar for new batteries.

My adventures with WW are going poorly. their program is not working. the ipad version won't go past opening screens and it only went that far since yesterday. the desktop version was whacky and erased most of my entries yesterday. I know it's not just me, but I'm quite disappointed. I'm following the program but they have a new version that is still a mystery.

Hi Ladies,

Everything is going well Judy :). I did a double workout on Thursday, bodypump and Karina. Yesterday I had to get my eyes checked, my Ophthalmologist wanted me to go to a specialist because my peripheral vision has deteriorated and she was concerned that I may have cataracts and I do :(. The right eye is the worst, but they are not bad and the Dr. said that I could wait. He also told me that if he removed them my eye sight would be corrected and I would not need to wear contacts anymore and might only have a low prescription for my nearsightedness. So I told him, why should I wait if you can correct my eyesight, so I will have the surgery the beginning of February. I went for a 3.5 mile run this morning and we did it in 36 minutes :). We are getting faster and stronger, there were several hills too.

Valerie, hope that the PT helps. My DD's knee also moves to the right and she wears a brace when she works out.

Deb, I don't like using any gadgets when I work out. Today I did use my old Timex to see how long it would take us to do the 3.5 miles, but we usually don't time ourselves. We do know the distance of our runs because it is the same routs that we use to run while training for a marathon.

Garance, I've had 4 root canals that have been crowned after 3-6 months. My teeth have been a disaster just like my eyes all of my life.

Lori, your tree sounds beautiful. I'm going to go get my tree today and bake some cookies later on today to get in the Christmas mood.

I was laughing at you ladies while I was reading your posts about ICE. You all sound like little kids waiting to open a present on Christmas day ;)

We are going to a party at Karina's house tonight and tomorrow I'm doing a 35 mile ride. Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I did Live Lift it Hiit it Legs followed up with SB's Lower Body Interval. My legs were feeling it when I was done. Loved the Live Hiit workout.

Deb...that looks like a very nice bike to me. Good for you two. I do not spin as much as Judy or Valerie, but love it when I do. The tree works for us otherwise we would have a tree with no lights. Fortunatley, we like colored and blinking. Will be curious how the ball seat works. I know someone at work that was having back issues and used one for a bit.

Lynda...glad you are waiting for the crown. Makes complete sense to me. Lol! Barf cookie. :) I have ornaments my DS made when he was younger so I completely understand how you feel. I have a few of my mom's too. I think cardio supersets has the windmills. I did them both close together and I am geting them mixed up. I think supersets because she was mentioning to keep them low impact which I of course I did not. Cardio Supersets is from the Low Impact set so this is why I am leaning towards the windmills here. Supercuts reminds me of Flextrain.

Valerie...That is why I very rarely use my HRM. I hate dealing with the chest strap. Such a pain to me. So did you pay to sign up for WW? Will they compensate you for the lack of service? I would be furious!

Josie...great run! Sounds like you are really keeping up with your workouts. So sorry to hear about your eyes. I know a couple of people that had cataract surgery and have been very please with the results. I was really let down when I realized it was the calender. :(

Judy...hope you are feeling better and it passes quickly. At work I have a habit of sitting on my right leg folder under. So bad for my knee but I do it without even realizing it until my foot falls asleep.

Beautiful here today. 60 degrees. DH has today and tomorrow off. He never has a weekend off. We almost feel like a normal couple! We did errands and went out for lunch. A nice day!

Raining and windy out, and cold and nasty. Blech.
Lori, I paid half price when I signed up for 3 months. I asked for a one week extension on my contract a couple days ago which they agreed to. it's working better today so I will probably be OK from now on. I reentered some data from yesterday and it seems to be sticking. I follow a program better knowing I paid for it even if I can't track everything.:rolleyes: not rational but it works. program iis downloaded to my phone although ipad doesn't work yet. I learned that if it doesn't work.... leave it sit and come back tomorrow.

I don't especially like the chest strap but if you want a reliable heart rate, its WAY better than wrist devices. I have to be on a machine with a heart rate sensor.... treadmill, elliptical, spin bike. my straps are pretty old.

Josie, one of my first questions to PT will be about a brace. I have several from previous knee mishaps, and I'll get another one if it will help. the problem with braces for me is that I already have big legs.... it's hard for me to get clothes over a brace, and it's way too cool for shorts now. Was your daughter ever a surgery candidate? this will eventually cause bigger problems if it's not fixed, but I was happy to see very good joint space and no other knee issues.

My younger sister just had cataract surgery, one eye at a time. it went pretty well, except she developed a common complication and needs a f/up procedure. the f/up only takes 5 min with a laser.... a far cry from the days when cataract surgery meant being immobilized in bed for weeks. It will be nice not to need corrective lenses for everything. I wear soft contacts still, but don't need them as much as I used to.
I have a Timex explorer watch, pretty simple but it times things like hikes and rides. That's always been enough. not big or expensive.
