Morning!

A nice day yesterday, went to lunch then to the play Both Your Houses. I wasn't really thrilled with it, it was about Congress, the House of Representatives in 1933...and how it was run...etc. Nothing different from how it is today...all the shenanigans etc.

Valerie, not good news on the bike rack situation, hope it works out. Try X-train Legs, I would be interested to see if I am the only one that gets such bad DOMS from that one.

Lynda, agree on the visa situation..you would think after 9/11 there would be some more scrutiny on this. We do have home grown or domestic terrorists, eg Timothy McVeigh, but they are lone actors, crazy yes, but not supported by groups that have a main objective of destroying our country and all we believe in. We need to pay more attention to how these people get into the country.

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lori,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday in addition to cardio supersets I did some SB lower targets. Also took Chester for a walk yesterday. It was so nice out and we both really enjoyed it. Today I am going to try out Cathe's live step from this past Thursday. It looks like a lot of fun.

Deb...not sure if I would like that play either. Same old same old. I am liking this rotation due to the shorter workouts. This way I can also tag on what I am in the mood for. Also, looking ahead it has great variety. I think you would like the Live workouts.

Judy...how are you feeling? Hope better. Sinus infections are so tough.

Lynda...great weather lately! I enjoyed cardio supersets. Would never have chosen this workout if not for the rotation but glad I did it. The gun issue is out of control. Oh to sleep in! Hardly ever happens for me. I naturally wake up about 5:30am. Even on Saturday's and Sunday's. I still get up because I feel it makes it easier for me to wake up at 5am during the week to work out.

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Not much going on today. We have errands then back for football. Game is at 4:30 so plenty of time.

I was a little short on time yesterday ( bad planning on my part) so I followed everyone and did Cardio supersets too. part of core 1 too, until my oven timer went off. all the plank position work in supersets makes that one feel like your core gets plenty. I'm sure I have xtrain legs but I don't remember it. I used Lower body blast as my lower body workout. will take a look at it xtrain.

the scariest thing is after a shooting incident, gun sales skyrocket. they did again. I see the biggest issue the availability of automatic and semi auto weapons, unlimited ammunition. so much damage in so little time, and serve no purpose except to kill lots of people quickly and in large numbers. I understand other things can be used as weapons like pipe bombs and airplanes, but the automatic weapon is most easily available. there will always be crazies but when you read all the screening this woman passed, I don't see how we could be more thorough. I've read surprisingly little about the man. someone could be Ok when they are screened, and become radicalized years later. of course the home grown crazies, like the Colorado springs PP shooter.

We are in a cycle of gray clouds and endless rain. not heavy but every day and fairly miserable. winters in the northwest! fairly warm, 45-50 but... blech. Deb we are waiting for my bike to arrive before we replace the rack. for a long time bikes were predictably structured and now there are all kinds of new sizes and designs. I forget if I said, but the bigger standard wheels on mt bikes is prompting makers to lower the top tube so people can stand OK. that is messing with how bike racks support the bikes.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did DM (63:00).

It is nice out now, but when I got up we had something called frozen fog. The whole world looked like it was in white frost.

Deb, I will get out XTrain Legs. I don't remember it, but I will see if I get some serious doms like you. Maybe I will try it tomorrow. Thanks for reducing the size of Max's photo. I may try it as an avatar after awhile, but I will keep this one for now. Congress is a joke, so was this play a comedy??

Lori, I should take a look at that rotation. Sounds like she is encouraging timesavers for the holiday hectic season.

Valerie, the husband shooter was born in America and seemed to be thoroughly assimilated--good job, living in suburbia with wife and 6 month old baby. Not the usual disaffected recruit. His sister was interviewed on MSNBC and she said, "I think he married a terrorist." I still think the whole thing is weird. Yep, people go out and buy guns after these mass shootings. Jerry Falwell's son told students at Liberty University to get a license to carry so they could shoot Muslims. He later said he didn't mean all Muslims, just the bad ones, but what a way to fuel bigotry.

Judy, I hope you are feeling better.

My older son had me doing face time in Stop and Shop with his schnauzer puppies. They are so cute. I am sorely tempted. It turns out their grandfather is from a breeder in Shelburne Falls MA--not far from here.

Going out to Comfort Sunday dinner tonight. Not sure I will order it, though, because the first course is miso soup, and I vaguely remember not liking it.

Lynda, I read that too... brought up in California. restaurant inspector. doesn't sound scary at all. I am always surprised people can project a completely normal front to everyone, and then do a complete transformation into cold blooded killers. I didn't read that about Falwell's son. guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree... what a stupid STUPID comment to make. like we need to encourage revenge or retaliation killings too...

I've got most of my shopping done and 3/4 of my cards sent as of this morning. I have gotten to dislike the entire month of December. I was pleased the grocery wasn't playing xmas music yet. the noise level seems to pick up even before Halloween these days..

Judy hope you are OK and the sinus issue didn't get worse. I used to get that sinus thing before I got my tonsils out.

ETA I did a 36 minute spin premix, then did the entire burnsets ch, ba, sh and core 1. Feeling kind of proud of myself. of course, this would be just an average day for Lori....

Hi everyone,

I am feeling better. No cardio this weekend but I did go to the gym with DH yesterday and today and did some light circuit training.
Other than that, I just took it easy and got a lot of rest.

Valerie-great workout! Hopefully I can get back to that kind of training this week.

Lynda-are you thinking about getting a puppy?

Deb-I seem to remember my legs being pretty sore after XTrain legs. It's been awhile since I did that one.

Lori-I'll have to try cardio supersets. It sounds like a fun one. Thanks again for the Cathe Live pdf. It's really helpful!

Hi to Josie!

Judy

Good morning,

Another week....time sure flies. Yesterday I did 4DS Shoulders & Core, the premix where they switch the weights to be first. I skipped the cardio and went to the stretch.

Lori, I bet Chester is so happy to have that cone off and going for a walk too! I may do Cardio Supersets today, everyone seems to be pulling that one out. :).

Valerie, Nice job on the workouts! I thought it was Lori for a second. :). I hope you find it easy to replace your rack, after your new bike arrives, and it's easy to use. Ours is a struggle each time we use it.

Lynda, how was Comfort Sunday? yes, the play was a comedy, and funny in some spots, but I think it just showed how corrupt Politian’s are and I don't see all the humor in that.

Judy, glad the infection is better. Your rest days are like my workout days!

Hi Josie!

A workout, and class tonight...

Take care,

Hi everyone--

I did XTrain Legs (52:23), and Deb, I may well get some doms from this. I have a hard time with the roll-ins with the ball, especially the one-legged ones. I think on GG I do a premix that excludes them.

I had sunchokes and mussels last night. DH did the comfort sunday meal--miso soup, a Banhi Vietnamese sandwich, and chocolate cake. I also gave him some of my sunchokes. I love mussels in a spicy broth they make. Yum!

Yes, Deb, like Mercutio's line from Romeo and Juliet about the Montagues and Capulets, "a plague on both your houses" fits perfectly to Congress. More tragedy than comedy that our politicians are so bought and paid for.

Judy, I just don't know if I can handle a puppy right now with all the work on my home office, the move, etc. I was certainly tempted when I looked at their puppies--Penny and Libby. Apparently Penny is very greedy and must be separated from Libby when they get their kibble, or she will push Libby out of the way and eat both bowls. Too bad that breeder in Shelburne Falls doesn't have a website or I would have been tempted even more. They just have a contact number. Great that you are feeling better.

Valerie, sounds like you are back into your workouts. Are you going to try yoga again?

Guilty confession: I ordered Jessica Smith's 4dvd set from Totalfitnessdvds yesterday. There were some very positive comments about the set at VF, and then I watched videoclips and really liked what I saw. Love Mary's 10off promocode and free shipping, so 4 dvds for $43.

Hi to Lori and Josie!

excuse me... I don't want to make this into a political thread... but I have heard the President say on several occasions lately and read it in the paper too.. that people on the "no fly" list aren't prevented from purchasing any kind of weapon, including assault rifles. congress ( R's) rejected efforts to change this. I'm wondering if I had missed this information previously? Was this common knowledge? that is just insane....

I've been having ongoing right knee problems. going to go see an orthopedic person tomorrow. no injury, just low -mid level discomfort that is OK with some things but not others. no injury so hopefully it's nothing too significant. almost feels like I have a bone spur or something under the knee cap. squats and lunges bother it so I've been skipping them.

probably not in a rush to do yoga. the closer place has nothing I want, and the other location is a long drive now.... at 6 am. still not sure but I'm not moving too quickly. I think about it and miss it, but don't want to get up and go early.
Lynda, after you mentioned sunchokes last time, I did ask the produce guy about them and he had never heard of them. totally blank. I haven't seen them in many years. I used to like them but I thought I had them raw in salads. Jerusalem artichokes.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was RWH Plyo 2 and this was my only workout for today. I find Mondays are hard for me to do double workouts.

Deb...did you end up doing cardio supersets? Chester is so happy to have that cone off. I will admit he is a little more subdued after having it offf and my DH noticed this too. We are thinking he must think we punished him for some reason so he is on his best behavior. Sounds funny but we swear this is what is going on.

Judy...glad you are feeling better. Best you took it easy for a bit. Do you do step at all? I really enjoyed her recent live step workout. Not dancy at all. Glad you and Deb like the spreadsheet - nothing fancy but does the trick.

Valerie...lol you are funny! I do love my double workouts! Too bad the yoga place next to you does not interest you. If I remember you really enjoyed it and pretty good at it too! Hope all goes well with your knee appt. please keep us informed. We did not watch Obama last night. We meant to but missed it. Heard some of the highlights this morning but that was it.

Lynda...ok...now I really need to relook at Xtrain legs! Your meal sounded great! Good choice with Jessica Smith. I subscribe to her You Tube Channel and love her. She has some great workouts and I love her down to earth personality. Let me know how you like the DVD's.

Hi to Josie!!

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Cardio Supersets, I guess I had to get this one out again, after everyone here was doing it. I forgot how good/hard this one was. I have to keep it in mind for my cardio days.

Lynda, you did the complete Leg workout, so I can't imagine not getting some serious DOMS. Like Valerie, I don't think I have ever seen a sunchoke. That was the whole crux of the play...how they are bought and paid for. A puppy would be great, but would Max give up part of his Kingdom? LOL. What was the name of the set you ordered? I have downloaded some of her free workouts from YouTube on to my iPad.

Valerie, I hope all is ok with your knee and it's not something serious. I think the No Fly list has it's problems....Ted Kennedy was on the list at one point....LOL...

Lori, poor Chester...thinking he did something wrong. I'm sure that will change soon.

Hi to Josie & Judy,

Take care,

I did a 40 min spin premix and core 2 yesterday. this is a lot of crunches. I like core 1 better.

orthopedics appt this morning. I made the appt yesterday. such a thrash though because they PCP office didn't want to give me a referral because I'd never complained about my knee to them. sheesh. total waste of money and resources to need to see them first just to get permission to see the "right" person. finagled my way thru the phone system and talked to my PCP's assistant, and she got it done for me. Mostly need to get a xray and maybe other imaging. I've had issues for at least a year or two but they seem more noticeable so I'm now thinking about doing things that don't aggravate it. When I had my ACL repair on the other knee years ago, he cleaned up the joint area for some minor debris, etc. that knee is fine. I don't think this is knee replacement time or anything like that, but I am sort of thinking of a bone spur because there's a specific spot that gets painful, not the entire joint. happens when I do squats especially.

Deb we used to see sunchokes in the produce dept... in clear plastic bags. looked like small brown potatoes. crunchy, a little like jicama. I hadn't noticed they weren't around until Lynda mentioned them. as soon as I asked for Jerusalem artichokes the guy started heading for the regular artichokes. he'd never heard of these. vegies go in and out of style!

Lori, the yoga place divided into two places. the closer one is not the person I liked. they don't do classes until later in the morning. I still would to go back to my previous instructor but somehow the pattern of getting up and going to a 7 am class has been broken. it's a much longer drive than before, in the dark.

Maybe if the "no fly" list got a bit more attention, it would be a better tool. anyone on it should have recourse if they are placed there wrongfully. however if people are on it because of terrorist links/ connections or personal history, why should they be able to buy weapons without question? I don't believe any one measure will keep us all "safe" but it is nuts not to use what we have.

ETA I've had a confusing re-start at weight watchers. today there's a big new program launch. I don't have time to read it now, but it makes me feel little better about having so much trouble getting anything to work this week.

Hi Ladies,

On Saturday I went to Zumba and bodypump, no workout on Sunday but went to visit mom and dad. Did some shopping on Monday and today I ran and will probably go to bodypump at noon or do a workout with my DH if he is up to it. Karina is out of town.

I decided to make tamales to celebrate New Year's. This will be my first attempt, I have always helped, but have never done it on my own. My mom gave me the recipe when I saw her. I asked her to come over and supervise ;).

Judy, glad that your are feeling better.

Valerie, I hope that you don't need surgery. My right knee also bothers me sometimes when I do squats. I have to do the sumo wrestler kind of squat to avoid pain.

Lori, now you know what to do to control Chester ;).

Garance, your comfort meal sound delicious! I love mussels.

Deb, I have to go back and review 4DS. It has been collecting dust on my shelve.

Josie

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

I did have some doms in my hamstrings primarily this morning--probably from those roll-ins while your back and butt are up in the air. But it could also be the low pulses on the disk lunges.

Deb, the Jessica Smith set is called "Ultimate Workouts for Weight Loss 4 DVD Set" and includes Cardio Abs, Total Body Balance, Walking for Weight Loss (which actually looked more like a lot of dance moves in the clip and to good music), and Barre Fitness. Max spends most of his time outdoors. I doubt if a miniature Schnauzer would want to be out all day. More of a cuddle and lap dog, which would certainly cause problems when Max gets the urge to leap up into my lap. I am too preoccupied right now seriously to think about a puppy.

Valerie, the whole issue of the no fly list and gun purchases came up in Congress very recently and, of course, the Senate refused to close the loophole on this because, as Rubio and other Senators argued, some people on the no fly list really shouldn't be there and we don't want to violate their second amendment rights to a gun in addition to the "injustice" of wrongly being on the no fly list due to no fault of their own. I don't see why, if they don't belong on the no fly list, they don't take their grievance to the Dept. of Justice and get that taken care of first, and then, once they have successfully shown they don't belong on the no fly list, they can go buy a gun.

Lori, that's very funny about Chester. Poor guy--he probably just wonders what he did to deserve the punishment of turning into a conehead.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Back from the appt. my knee cap is moved out of place, so not my imagination. for whatever reason ...maybe too much riding(??) not clear and maybe more info from PT . my right knee cap isn't tracking right. I will try PT first. see if I can strengthen the inner thigh part of the quadriceps to pull the knee cap inward. the knee cap is riding over bone. there is space if it can get pull sideways a bit . I have good joint space ( a relief) but my knee cap is off to the side where there is no space. there is a big surgery to correct this but I am hopeful that proper exercise can move it to where there is space. it's kind of funny how the left knee is centered perfectly, but the right one is not. could not tell me why, as I do mix up my exercise and don't do only one thing. the first PT appt I could get is next Wed. I'm looking at u tube etc for probable exercises to try. I will be skipping all squats and lunges for the time being. I'm almost thinking it is riding because we've done so much more of it the last few years. but why one knee and not the other? hopefully a therapist will have more ideas. I'm going back to the same guy I saw for my ACL rehab.

Lynda, yes, if people have been placed erroneously on the list, there should be recourse for them. something that doesn't involve expensive, involved legal fees. First off, it would be a huge inconvenience if you wanted to go somewhere by plane! and of course, if it interferes with buying a gun.

miniature schnauzers are so darn cute! puppies are a lot of work, though.

Good evening ladies!

No workout this morning. Between chester and my DH snoring I tossed and turned most of the night. When the alarm went off I did get changed and then said "Who am I kidding? This is not going to happen!" So I took my sneakers off, set my phone alarm, grabbed a throw blanket and slept on the couch. :). I did have some energy tonight (not sure where it came from) and did Live Cardio Boxing with Leg Blasts. The rotation called for x10 cardio blast so I subbed this one instead to give me a longer workout. This workout was a calorie burner for sure. I have done the boxing part a few times but never the blasts. Loved it.

Valerie...that sounds very painful. Hoping PT can correct this for you without surgery. Could this leg be more dominate? Would make sense then for it to be affected and not the other. I can see why you would not want to get up that early and drive to yoga. That is why I work out at home as I am not one to drive early in the morning to the gym. Amazes me that people do this and enjoy it.

Deb...awesome that you did Cardio Supersets!! Ok..I admit...I need to google a sunchoke. I have a few JS workouts and they are great. I find some of her workouts tend to be on the easier side for me but every now and then I will do one and think...wow that was a great workout. She has a metobolic one that I really enjoy. I'll have to look this one up.

Josie...lol about Chester... Funny because my DH still has the cone in his car! I know so many people that love Zumba. I just couldn't get into it. I have a few of the original DVD's and only used them a few times. If you want them it would be my pleasure to send them to you. Tamales sound really good!

Lynda...those roll ins really bite. SB has a newer hamstring target that has those and I always feel them the next day. Looking forward to your review on those DVDs. They sound really good.

Hi to Judy!!!!!

Lori, It's uncomfortable, not that bad. but it needs to be fixed or it will get worse. hiking was causing a lot of stress this year. the patella is not in the groove it should be. looking at the xrays it is so clear one knee is fine and the other the kneecap is drifted off sideways. the good knee is the one I had ACL surgery ( left) years ago. it is strange because I am right handed but my left leg is dominant as is my left eye. this has been going on for a while and probably as I favor one side, it will get worse as that side gets stronger and dominates even more. I have been noticing more discomfort, snapping and popping when I do anything that makes the right knee bend much. hopefully it is fixable without surgery . the distance it must move is not a lot and there is "space" where it should be. it's apparently a common problem. especially in teenagers. so there is some comfort in that!! a knee brace might help too but not buying anything until I see PT. warrior pose to the right in yoga was always an issue and that was 2 yrs ago so this is a long term issue for me. it has gotten worse this year. there are several common yoga moves that would aggravate it. Hopefully PT, in a month or 2, will pull it back into alignment.

tamales.. I have never had tamales. what is so difficult about making them?

we finished the Narcos series on Netflix. it was a made for Netflix series and it was (IMO) outstanding. very good. much is in Spanish though, so subtitles are a constant part of it. I really liked this one. I like subtitles so not an issue for me but if you don't like to read the dialogue it might be troublesome. I understand some Spanish but subtitles were necessary. about Pablo Escobar the drug kingpin, Colombia. Highly recommend.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did 4DS Back & Chest. I forgot how good the weight segments of these workouts are.

Valerie, glad that it was nothing too serious on your knee, and hope you can get it back to normal with PT. I was going to ask if it was your "dominant" leg but see you answered that in a later post. Hope all works out ok with WW. I don't like when they change sites that I have gotten familiar with...a pain for sure.

Josie, good job on the workouts! mmm...tamales...! Love them.

Lynda, that sounds like a great DVD set. I'm going to go over to Total Fitness and look at it. I like her a lot, and I like Peanut too! :). She is so darn cute. I definitely understand about the puppy..it's a lot of work for sure.

Lori, that sounds like a tough workout! Do you use a HRM? wow, when you described your sleep, (or lack thereof) I thought it was me...lots of those nights of snoring and going to the couch. It hasn't happened as much lately. I put 2 regular bed pillows between the mattress and box spring, just to make a small incline in the head of the bed and that seemed to help with John's snoring. Funny, I was just typing the same thing to Valerie, asking if it was her dominant leg. :). Is the Jessica Smith metabolic workout available on YouTube? If so, can you give me the actual name? I would like to try it out...

Hi Judy!

Nothing much going on here....workout today, nail appointment, agility class later...

Take care,

I feel in total limbo right now about what kind of exercise I should do. I suspect something I'm doing is causing the knee cap to be pulled outward and I strongly suspect cycling, but everything I look up suggests cycling as a way to strengthen the quads. I know I have strong quads, but perhaps the outer part of the muscle has become stronger than the "inner thigh" part of the muscle, the vastus medialis I think. I hope I can see someone before next Wed and requested to be put on the "call if there's a cancellation" list.

I'm thinking tamales are always meat filled and that's why I've never had them. not sure if there is a vegetarian or chicken version? no red meat here.

heard from some other WW users that the system is "a mess" right now so I feel less like I'm being stupid about things.

Forgot to say, we got Narcos streaming on Netflix.

speaking of HRM's I have some older chest strap ones that are dying. time to replace. would like to get a smaller wrist monitor to track activity and heart rate, like a fitbit, but from what I've read, if your arms are not swinging, it doesn't register movement. so cycling would not count. any suggestions?
