Good morning,

Today I did the Physique 57 30 minute workout. It was a killer.

Garance, wow that workout was tough. Did you struggle your first few times? It was easier working my right leg and standing on my left, which I thought was strange since my right leg is my dominant one. I could not get through the one side, did a lot better on the other side. What do you use for the abs section, where they are leaning back on that large piece of mat? They say use towels but that would not be sturdy enough. I need an old chair custion or something like that.

Valerie, we went to a wedding last night and I did not get to bed until after 11:00. At around midnight when I still hadn't fallen asleep I took 2 Tylenol PM's and that really helped. I slept until about 6:00 when John got up with the dogs. Then I went back to sleep until 7:30. I was a little groggy when I got up, but nothing a little coffee could not take care of. I think next time I will only take one pill.

Joan, I need to follow your lead and start recording food again. It seemed to help me before, if I was honest and put down what I really ate, it was a pain, so I find that I don't eat as much junk food or bad stuff.

Hi to Josie and Cathy,

Have a good day.

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I started STS meso 2 and did disk 13 for chest, shoulders, and triceps (65 min.).

Deb, I had doms when I first started using Physique 57 and it took me awhile before I could stop groaning audibly on the legs. I can get my legs up pretty high now. At first it was kind of pathetic when she would say to look over your shoulder, and my leg was just not high enough to be visible. Now I can actually see my leg! I use an old cushion from a loveseat we got rid of--one of the throw pillows. For me this is much more effective than the squats and lunges, and I have really tightened things up from doing Physique.

DH does not want a greyhound. He says he wants a springer spaniel, which would be fine with me too. They are so sweet-tempered. Definitely a female.

The Christmas walk was great yesterday. It starts with a rein-dog parade, with all the local dogs dressed up in antlers and finery, looking totally goofy. The kids love it, and it is a hoot. There was also a fluffy snowfall yesterday, so things really did look wintry. Very cold here today.

Tomorrow I will try Bootcamp Boogie and let you know how it is.

Good evening all,

So far so good on recording food. Still too high but my brother went home so I won't be going out to eat. I should be a little better this week but Saturday is the first Christmas party. I need to look at what I ate last year.

I need to do something other than treadmill-1 hour today. Maybe something for upper body tomorrow.

I took my tower down for now- it just was in the way. If I do physique 57 I will just use a chair.

Joan

Monday

Good morning,

Today I did a 40 minute I-Tread. I am trying to come up with a good rotation that lets me use the Physique 57 workout twice a week, still get upper body in and still get at least 4 cardio workouts...we shall see.

Garance, at least you have given me some hope in doing the P-57! I was pathetic as well. As for Springer Spaniels, be very careful and get a good breeder, they have had temperment problems in the past, you can look the breed up and find out what to be careful of. I wish we had a walk like that one here.

Joan, we are both struggling with food and deciding on workouts. How do you like the P-57?

Hi to Josie, Cathy & Valerie!

Good morning;

Warmed up on the bike saturday for 15 min and then Muscle Max. I increased my weights on many moves and felt good about it. My goal (of course) is as much as cathe & team use, and I'm there on some, and getting close on others.
I'm debating about when to start STS again. I was going to start in Nov but decided after the total layoff this summer that I'd best do longer prep. I got a little sore from MM but not bad. Sunday we did an easy morning walk at a state park. we were checking out the area for mt biking but it was way too cold and windy saturday. the area has potential. Not a rest day, but not hard, just pleasant.

Deb, glad tylenol PM worked. I usually take one instead of 2. If I get to bed later than usual, I feel drained the next day, even if I sleep later. there's really a lot to be said for going to bed at about the same time every night. Usually if I get to bed late I wake up at 4 anyway.

I've never been good at recording food. I have a decent diet and stable weight, I wish it was a little less than it is. 7-10 lbs less would be excellent. DH just had his annual physical and labs, not pleased so he's cutting calories... it's easier for both of us if we both are watching calories. No matter what he does, his cholesterol, LDL, HDL don't budge. the numbers aren't awful or dangerous but do not reflect his excellent habits. he wants to lose a few pounds, maybe 10, and see if that helps. I need labs this month too and hopefully they will be as good as they've been.
I go for a blood draw today... if it's monday it's blood draw day. Ugh. I'm supposed to be done with coumadin by the end of the month, but they've never gotten my level up to the desired point, and I hope this doesn't mean I stay on it longer... I eat mostly vegetarian and need more coumadin than someone who eats few vegies. they keep increasing my dosage but the INR level isn't going up. It's funny, when I first started coumadin my level went up to where they wanted it but quickly dropped back down.

Hi Ladies,

My work outs went well this weekend. My DH and I went to a casino on Friday and I hit a royal flush. I made about $800.00 and I already spent some of it on gifts.

Today a friend is coming over to check on my bike and to give me pointers on the shifting.

Valerie, my DM is also on the same medication and she has to go in once a moth to have it checked out.

Garance and Deb, I finally ordered P-57. I will try to use it during my vacation.

Hi Cathy and Joan.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie with Petra Kolber for the first time (62 min.). Really, really perfect workout. Some choreo, but very easy, several intervals, and three levels of difficulty in terms of impact. Good music, too.

Deb, you should measure your waist, hips, and thighs and see if you get good results with P 57. I have been very pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the good advice on springers. I have a colleague in Art History who has a lovely springer who goes everywhere with him. Just politely lies down when he lectures. Students are crazy about the dog who gets a lot of attention lavished on her. I will check with him and see where he found her.

According to some study (heard this on Regis and Kelly this morning), if you gain weight over a year, 51 % of the weight gain occurs between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, I guess holidays give us license to stuff ourselves silly. Maybe if we all brought a notebook to parties and every time we put something in our mouths we had to record it we might not eat so much. At least it would slow us down.

Winter is finally here. Last week it went up to 60 degrees. Only 31 today.

Good evening,

Yea Josie I like those royals.

Garance I think I better measure also. I'm afraid I may have gained back some of the inches lost from sts.

Hi Valerie and Deb.

I made a turtle cheesecake for the people at radiation center. I didn't even sneak out a piece first.

Calories eaten down to 1603. Still too high but better than it has been lately. I did 3 miles on treadmill.

Joan

Tuesday

Good Morning,

Today I did a 20 minute I-Climb on the eliptical and the Back & Biceps pre-mix from 4DS. I forgot how hard the eliptical is. Mine is a cheap one that is totally manual, no power. It's cold here, we got a dusting of snow yesterday, nothing serious.

Valerie, I switched to taking one of the pills and it helps. I am not in a groggy state. Sounds like your DH is doing the right thing, I wish mine would start to watch calories. I worry about him because of his family history. His father had a heart attack and a stroke. You may have mentioned it, but why are you on coumadin?

Josie, WTG on the poker playing! was it a slot machine?

Garance, I think I will do the measurements, but I know if something is working, I will see it in my clothes. I am trying to do the 30 minute workout twice a week, so I may not get as good results as you did, or it will take a lot longer! Springers are very sweet, my friend had a female for 14 years and she was a wonderful dog. There used to be this thing with them called "rage" or something, I think it has been bred out of them by now. Always good to really get a good breeder, and check out the mother, this is where they say the temperment comes from. We have proof of that with the 4 Wire Fox Terriers we have had. I gained 2 pounds over the Thanksgiving couple of weeks.

Joan, I can't believe you did not try a piece of that! You must have some great will power!:)

Hi to Cathy!

Have a good day!

Haaa... Joan, it's hard to sneak out a piece of cheesecake! some things can be sampled without it showing, but cheesecake is not one of them! I LOVE cheesecake but we don't have it very often. With just two of us I save it for company.

Deb, I had a DVT in september from a pack strap compressing an arrea on my shoulder where the pacer wires go. The good news from yesterday is they finally got my coumadin dosage where they want it, but I'm almost done with the coumadin course. I'm supposed to be done Dec 29. I'm hoping they don't extend it because I was not at desired levels much of the time. Worst case is 6 months instead of 3 but I really want to be done with this. I've had to go almost every single week for a blood draw. I'm about 95% vegetarian... we eat a little chicken and fish... so we eat a ton of vegetables and that makes it more difficult to adjust coumadin levels because of the high level of vitamin K in some vegies.

DH is cooperative on food and he exercises a lot.... but he eats a little too much. mostly good food and not too much junk, but he could lose a couple pounds. so could I. It will be easier to achieve this if we're both on the same program. I tend to lose a little weight this time of year. somehow all the rich food.... everywhere and often.... works opposite for me and kills my appetite. and fortunately or unfortunately a lot of what's out there is not good, quality home made stuff. If I eat junk it has to be QUALITYjunk ... I'm not exercising hard and watching calories to get tripped up by crummy food just because it's there.

Yesterday got in 15 bike, 30 treadmill. I don't do weights on blood draw days. today I'll do more. I watched STS # 1 while on the treadmill. Geez, that's tougher than I remember. LOT of pushups. How did I do it last spring??

It's been very cold here. sunny and dry. winter temps are usually around 40 but the last few days it's been in the teens at night with a high of barely 30. Very tough... the weather people keep talking about the "bitter cold". we have to be diligent about water pipes etc something we don't usually worry about.

Hi Ladies,

I will be working out with Kevin tonight. I only have the rest of December and January to workout with him. I will not be renewing my membership there, I think I got as much as I'm going to get from those workouts. I will be going back to the pyramids and incorporating the new P-57. My legs will need to be strong for the 7 day ride.

Deb, I was on the table. I like this game because it is fast paced.

Garance, I will take your advice and measure myself before I start P-57.

Joan, I also love cheesecake.

It was 39 degrees when I left home and it is in the low 40's here at UCLA. It rained all day yesterday. We are supposed to have another storm by Thursday.

Where are you Cathy?

Hi Valerie!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did the Physique 57 57 min. workout to replace disk 14 from STS for legs.

Tomorrow DH and I were planning on visiting some kennels to look at Springers and then pick out our TV, but now it sounds like a real mess is headed our way--snow, sleet, freezing rain. Blech!

My DH is 6' and about 162 lbs. Of course, he is active all day every day. I love to cook and I just make whatever sounds interesting and don't worry about the calories. For me, it's the portion size. DH eats about twice as much as I do. However, I almost never make desserts anymore because I don't eat them and DH would rather have a bowl of ice cream. I will probably make a few cookies for Christmas, but nowhere near the batches I used to make.

Wow, Josie, you are so lucky! The money comes at the right time of the year, too. I bet Kevin will miss you.

Joan, how is your mom doing? What kind of cheesecake did you make? There's a very famous Trappist monk monastery in Vermont and they make wonderful cheesecakes.

Valerie, it sounds like you have the holidays under control on food. I vacillate. Sometimes I am very good and just avoid the food table altogether, but at others I go for the salty stuff and the cheeses. MMMM! I didn't gain last year, so I hope I won't this year, too.

Sounds like you are finally getting some ZZZZ, Deb!

Hi to Cathy!

Hi Ladies--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Step Kickboxing, the horizontal premix with core (48 min.).

Where is everyone? Blizzard-like conditions here, although it seems to be subsiding now and turning into all rain.

Boy am I dumb. I bought a gift certificate for DS and his fiancee to Chez Panisse and I gave them the wrong zip code. Now I have to wait to see if the post office will get it to them. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but I will have to contact them to find out if they get it by 12/19. The address is right, but I gave them MY zip code and I am in MA while they are in CA.

Did you have another bad night, Deb?? Usually you are the first to post.

Hi Ladies,

My wo went well last night. No wo for me today, the girls and I are going out to the Santa Monica Convention Center for a lady's night out. They are having different vendors selling clothes, shoes purses and other items. I went to it last year and it was a lot of fun.

Garance, I guess everyone had a late start today.

I will be back later.

Josie

hi everyone, i'm still alive.LOL! just been busy. well, talking about calories, my dil has lost 17#'s on weight watchers, so i am gonna try it. i have been doing it for 2 days and i seem to like it. i like to have everything mapped out fo rme. it is easier for me. the points are easier to count than calories, imo.

so, anyone here do or done WW? i cna use all the advice you can give me. i'm not going to the meetings. my dil is just coaching me.

as far as workouts, i was off sun & mon. had grandkids, then i did the firm's cardio dance fusion yesterday, and today jiggle free buns, w/30m lower body power moves added.

believe it or not. it is even cold down here. no snow, but it is gonna be 25 tonite. that is cold for here. and it was like 22 less than a week ago. that is also really cold for this early in the year. we don't usually get really cold til jan/feb.

Good evening all,

I've had two good eating days 1274 calories and 1290 calories. I have to have some low days because I always have some high days.

Dm is doing much better with radiation. I don't know if she is just "stretched" more now so the position doesn't hurt or what. She does have redness under her arm. Doctor said she might have to adjust something. But at least now dm says it doesn't bother to get radiation. Going out in the cold and getting in and out of the car is the hard part.

The cheesecake was a turtle cheesecake. I put a layer of pecans over the graham cracker crust and then cover that with hot carmel sauce and then the cheesecake. I decorate top with carmel and hot fudge.

Joan

Thursday

Good Morning,

No workout today, I have been sleeping in a bit, and it feels good. I may do this for tomorrow as well and start again on Sunday. I am off all next week so I can hopefully get back into the swing of things.

Yesterday morning I went to have blood drawn for my yearly physical which is also next week, along with gyno apt and bone density scan. Don't I plan fun things for my vacation? ugh.

We had a bad storm last night, 60 mph winds, I thought parts of the house were coming off. There is about 6 inches on the ground this morning, and still some blowing. The drift in the back was so high DH could not get the door open to let Keegan out this morning.

Josie, that convention center event sounds like a fun one. How are the bike lessons going?

Garance, my bet is the post office will return that gift certificate to whoever is shown as the return address....

Cathy, I have toyed with the idea of doing WW too, but have never taken the plunge...my friend has done it off and on for years, so I have heard a lot about it. I wanted to do it online if I did. I really need something like you said, charted out for me.

Joan, that cheesecake sounds wonderful...my downfall, sweets! Glad your Mom is having an easier time, of course none of this is easy. She is a trooper that's for sure.

Stay warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 15 for back and bis (54 min.).

Joan, that cheesecake sounds absolutely sinful. I would probably gain weight just looking at it. Glad your mom is doing so well.

Cathy, Cardio Dance Fusion is one of my favorites, especially the cha-cha and the jive.

Okay, Josie, 'fess up, what bangles, baubles, and bibelots did you buy at that shop-til-you-drop place?

Deb, we also had quite a bit of snow, sleet, rain here and gale force winds that just won't go away. I breathed a sigh of relief when DS told me the gift certificate had found its way to them even with the wrong zip. Restores my faith in USPS.

Had sushi for lunch with some gal-friends. Yummy!

Hi Ladies,

Workout with Kevin tonight plus 30 minutes of cardio on the stepper. We went to the Cheesecake Factory before the shopping convention. However we did not order any dessert.

Garance, I bought long sleeve hoodies for my DD and some for friends and nieces. I also bought a beautiful dress that reminds me of the 40's fashions, I also bought make-up and earrings for myself and my DD. I spent about $300. of my winnings. It was fun!

Deb, one more week before our vacation :) I will be able to ride my bike everyday during vacation.

Cathy, welcome back, we missed you.

Joan, I'm gland your DM is doing better.

Hi Valerie!
