Cathlete
Good morning,

Just finished breakfast, after dragging my butt downstairs to do STS Total Body. I almost didn't do anything so I compromised and did the One set only pre-mix. It was still 45 minutes and I am dragging.

We keep talking about putting up the tree today, but I think it's all talk. Neither one of us is inclined to start dragging stuff down from the attic. ugh. Also need to move furniture around to get the tree in a spot, can you tell how excited I am about doing this?

Joan, did you get the DVD issue with the new workouts settled? I wish I could snap my fingers and all the decorating and tree would be done. Maybe if we had kids around I would be more apt to want to do it.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Rockin' Models (71 min.). My legs feel like jello after this one. Yikes! I will save this one for Sundays when I feel like I can start the week with a big bang. 2 sections of yoga poses, two leg sections, one with a bar and ball, one on the floor, a balance section she calls detailing, and a tough abs section. Love the music, love looking at those lean bodies--inspiring.

Maxie loved showing off in the reindog parade, but his antlers would not stay on. Too rambunctious. Tonight we are going to see Inside Job, a documentary about the financial crisis that is supposed to be infuriating (DH wants to see it--I don't know why, but maybe to get infuriated?), but then we are going out to our favorite restaurant, which now has "comfort Sundays"--two courses for 20 dollars, three for 25--and tonight it's with an Asian influence.

Sounds like everyone is either getting into the Christmas spirit or trying to. We haven't gone to get our tree yet--maybe next weekend. We usually get an 8-9 foot tree. I like fullness over height.

Cold here!

i'm here, i'm here!!!! took wed. - today off and had g/kids til thursday. then stuff on friday. was worn out yesterday. baked Christmas cookies before church this morning. gonna take some to the g/kids to decorate this week.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT IS DECEMBER??????!!!!!!!!! how is it possible that every year goes faster? our pastor was talking about that some today. he was asking where will you be 15 yrs. from now? to kids 15 yrs. is forever, but the older you get, 15 yrs is awfully short. i hope i'm still around in 15 yrs, but if not i will be in heaven w/lots of other friends and family. that was pastor's point. if you are not here in 15 yrs. ( on earth), will you be in heaven with Jesus??? hope so. i know i willKiss and, no, not becuz i'm a "good person" or anything, but only becuz of what Jesus did on the cross for us! that is why i KNOW i will go, cuz He already did the work to get me there.

so, tomorrow i will start my w/outs again. hope i have more energy. i was exhausted yesterday. feel better today.
so, will see ya later.

Deb, Cathe's staff seems to think that if the dvd can work on computer it doesn't matter that it doesn't work on my dvd player. I think the problem is it is a more expensive player that also records it is more particular about what it plays. I know when I record off it you have a procedure to do afterwards so other dvd players can read it. Otherwise you can only watch it on that machine. When I want to use new dvd's I'll just have to use computer. In the email they blame it on a dirty lens but in final paragraph say it doesn't work on all players. I know the computer was always able to read just about anything. That's why I was surprised it didn't work on laptop either.

Garance I agree about a full tree.

Hi to all!

We got some snow last night, maybe 6 inches...still not as bad as what we had south of here last weekend....one more week then I am on vacation for a week! Yay!

Joan, it is really strange about those DVD's and your player. I have a really old tv in my workout area so the picture is one of those horizontal ones that doesn't take up the whole screen, but that is ok, I don't really look at it that much, just to see what she is doing for a second.

What's up with everyone else?

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's Bootcamp (55 min. premix). Love her modifier for some of these impact moves.

Deb, you have found a smiley for everything! Hieroglyphic smilies. This is our last week of classes, so I will be sort of off (paper-grading, though) next week, too. Very cold here today, with snowflakes flying through the air, but no accumulation. Our comfort Sunday food was excellent--a pork bun with a spicy sauce and beef bulgogi and pickled vegetables. Inside Job was pretty scary. I now think of the people running this country and our financial institutions as no better than the mafia--they are all crooks and utterly craven. At least the filmmaker tore the veil away from their shenanigans.

Joan, maybe you should have bought your DVDs from Mary at totalfitnessdvds.com or Collage. Then you would have been able to send them back.

Hi to Cathy, Josie, and Valerie!

I don't do xmas decorating. I hang a wreath on the door! I send a few gifts and a few cards. Mostly, I try to get thru the month without killing anything! the music has started already and it drives me crazy. I have grown to absolutely hate xmas music and the buying hysteria. I enjoy getting together with friends and family but I don't participate in the holiday hubbub any more than I need to. so there! the resident curmudgeon... some years we go camping if the weather is suitable but the days are so short it makes for very long dark nights.

Lynda, we have that movie on the queue. I really didn't understand how everything fell apart like it did, and want a better perspective on what went wrong rather than just list of 'symptoms" of system failure.

Joan I know I saw some threads about people having issues with the new DVD's and SNM was going thru a lot of settings and things with people to get things to work right. Have you looked there, the forum about new workouts etc? You probably have, so not meant to insult you... I think most of the issues were about the pics being 'fuzzy" but if yours aren't playing at all they should be refunding your money ASAP, especially if all your other Cathe disks play properly on that player. I'm saving mine for a present for DH so I won't know for a couple weeks.

We did a hike sat, 6.5 miles, 2000 feet gain. did a snowshoe sunday, a bit less intense than sat. we went really fast Saturday and I was exhausted. this morning we tried a bike ride but got only 10 miles . it was 36 degrees and we both were freezing. thought we had enough clothing on but did not. will reevaluate before we try that again. need wind barriers for feet and head, hands. friday I did an upper body, I think #15. might do another upper body thing later today.

Hi Ladies,

I had a great weekend! My DD and I bought out Christmas tree on Sunday and decorated it and the house. It looks beautiful and DH put on some Christmas music while we were working. This morning I woke up to a wonderful Christmas tree smell. Now, all I need is my grandkids to start baking. I will be on vacation starting the 20th until January 3rd. I can't wait!

I will be doing MM this evening. I did the lower body premix on Saturday and my legs were a bit sore on Sunday.

Deb, I love your little smilys!

Hi to Garance, Joan and Cathy!

Josie

Good morning,

Today I did STS Total Body, upper only pre-mix. This one really grows on you. I used the weighted gloves so everything was increased by one pound, or 2 if using a BB. We still have snow on the ground, but we did not get the lake effect snow they predicted we would get in the city last night.

Garance, I have to confess, I stole those smiles from another board. Aren't they cute? That dinner sounds really comforting, would like it for dinner tonight.

Valerie, we are alike when it comes to Christmas, I put out a terrier garden flag, and a snowman on the porch. Some poinsettias, and I'm done! Did you ever do the hike with the "newbie"?

Josie, lucky you for the time off. I will be on vacation next week, then 23rd to 27th off. Do your gkd's make the cookies or help you?

Joan, I agree with Valerie, you should push to have those DVD's replaced. I wouldn't do it on the board though, I would keep after Customer Service.

Hi to Cathy,

Take care,

Josie, that is a nice xmas break! long enough to really unwind. I used to love that particular stretch of days off. now of course, all my days are "off".

Deb, the "newbie" was in good shape. she is from Romania, in her late 20's. she showed up with glorified tennis shoes so we did a non-snow hike and she walks fast. it was a good workout but a busy hike. a sunny weekend day in a snow free place, loads of others out enjoying the weather. she's very interesting, has lived a lot of places and has a lot of experience for being so young. her husband is in the military on an air craft carrier in the gulf. she is definitely in shape so no problem with her 'keeping up". I had trouble "keeping up"! DH and I always carry more stuff which on this hike was way overkill. we should have unloaded extras. it was a good workout. It's the stuff we usually carry for winter hikes. there were many people carrying nothing which is the other extreme.
Deb, how do you transfer those images. they're very cute. right click & then do what?

Never got in another workout yesterday. so today some time after yoga.

Lynda, haven't seen the movie yet but that was my feeling... we need protection from the vultures of wall street. the financial industry looks out for itself and no one else.

Good morning,

I really don't think a different dvd would help. They are all made the same way and just aren't made for all dvd players. I would try to get money back but these are some of the better wo. I do get a good picture on computer.

Dh is home today so will try to get in some lifting. I was down to 164 Monday- 1.4lb loss. If I already reported this ignore. I don't remember what I say.:D

Joan

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout last night, I felt tired. Today I will do my weights plus cardio. It has been cold in the evenings and in the mornings, but it is supposed to be in the low 70's during the day and in the 80's by the weekend. We have had some crazy weather here in LA.

Deb, my grandkids help me cut the sugar cookies and the gingerbread men and then with the decoration. I also have Mickey (6) help me with the measuring. He is learning math, so I test him when he comes over. I have aprons for them and elf hats which they wear while we are working. I will take some pictures and post them here.

Joan, congratulations on your weight loss! Are you still doing the pre-packaged meals?

Valerie, the university has been closing the campus for the last 12 years and it saves them a great deal of money. I just love having the time off!

Hi to Garance and Cathy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Zumba Cardio Party (46 min.).

Deb, we are getting lake effect snow here, and last night it was 4 inches. Very cold here, and it seems so sudden, because it really has been a mild November, with some days up in the 60s. I'm bringing out all my sweaters and now it's time to hide behind multiple layers of clothes.

Valerie, the thing that really bothered me about the movie was that even the so-called experts are corrupt. E.g., this total idiot from Columbia school of business (he really should not have consented to an interview because he made an utter fool of himself) writes a paper commissioned by the Icelandic government (for which he is paid well over 100,000 dollars) titled "The Stability of the Icelandic Financial System." He praises the banks, etc. which are about to drag the whole country down in a huge blowout because of the ridiculous loans they have made based on borrowing huge sums from foreign entities. So, as the documentary interviewer points out, the same piece on his resume is now titled, "The Instability of the Icelandic Financial System." Sheesh, how do you get away with that kind of academic dishonesty? And shouldn't people like Larry Sommers have to disclose to their students that they have been paid to do bogus studies touting the wonders of derivatives to make everything seem like it's going great when it's about to crash? Oh, well, you will learn a lot that you will probably make you an even bigger curmudgeon. Don't you realize that the holiday season is supposed to help our economy? Tsk!

Joan, good for you on the weight loss, and more power to you on doing workouts from your computer. I'd be totally irritated.

Sounds like you have some major baking to do, Josie. I remember doing cutouts with my boys. More frosting made it into their mouths than to decorate the cookies. But it was fun.

Hi to Cathy!

from things I've read before, it seemed like some of the 'big" players really didn't know what they were selling. things was so vague and weird that people couldn't really define what things actually were, selling "vapor", so to speak. I'm forgetting if it was derivatives or credit default swaps of some other garbage. I will push this one up the queue... I had several series (with multiple disks) pop up on the queue and they pushed some things I wanted sooner out of sight. glad you mentioned this one.

Trust me, I do my part to boost the economy this time of year. we do lots of home projects with the weather being so-so. DH and I get each other a few things but don't go nuts. everything will be on sale in january or sooner anyway. My mother used to bake batches and batches of cookies. often 30 different kinds. they were really good. people used to stop over for a drink and cookies, went through a bunch that way. If I made cookies DH and I would have to eat most of them! a disaster! I only do a couple batches a year for vacation when we are very, very active. Wish I could afford cookie calories but unfortunately, no.

Joan, we had a player that used to require a step of 'finalization" or the disks wouldn't play on another player. the one I use in the exercise room is an inexpensive Toshiba. congrats on the weight loss.

Josie, when I worked in sales, we used to get the whole chunk of time off. It was a relief not to be traveling and fighting holiday crowds.

Good morning!

I finished day 2 of week 4 of the C25K today!
047.gif
..I did not do what this guy is doing, thank goodness! I have to figure out a rotation with STS totay body and the C25K that does not have me doing the treadmill after a leg day. I think that was my problem on Monday.

Does anyone have a Kindle or a Nook? I would like a Kindle, but the Nook lets you download from the NY library. That is why I hesitate to get any e-reader, I love getting books from the library.

Garance, I was talking to a co-worker yesterday who said she loves going to some summer theater in your town for weekends. Small world.

Joan, good job on the weight loss! I would pick up a cheap DVD at Walgreen's, test it out, and if it doesn't work with your dvd's take it back and tell Customer service you want a new set.

Valerie, yes, I just copy and paste the smiles, some work and some don't for some reason...

Josie, Yes, pics please!

Hi to Cathy,

Stay warm!

Good morning,

I did total body yesterday but only the single set premix.

Josie I am still using the Nutrisystem food but also mixing in days of my own food. I was down to 163.6 this morning but I don't trust the scale until it's off for a week.

Joan

The fancy blue-ray disk players are down to just over $100 at costco now. I didn't look real close at the deals, rebates etc but major players like samsung, panasonic, sony not weird off brands. I'm not rushing to get one but I haven't played the new disks yet. I may crack one open just to be sure we don't have a problem too. it's getting all the components talking to each other correctly. the last TV / home theater system we did exceeded my understanding. I let DH do it. I hate to sound like a helpless female ... I do fine with computers and their assorted gear, but the TV mystifies me. It's the multiple remotes and buttons, jumping back and forth. so, until we really NEED another DVD I'm not signing up for another headache.

Yoga class was really good yesterday. I have crummy range of motion knees that don't co-operate. My hips are more mobile than they used to be, spine and shoulders are fairly flexible but the knees really limit my poses. so going to work on them more. Lotus is so far beyond my abilities it's almost laughable. but the upper body stuff is not hard for me though I don't look good. yoga requires grace and style to look good, and I don't have any of either.
I have Did disk #16 yesterday ... I really like back off sets. probably will do #17 today along with some light cardio. Deb, you're absolutely right, a leg workout and leg based cardio in the same workout is counter productive. you can't really give either 100%. http://figlife.com/pickle/images/smilies/047.gif I tried copying the little treadmill guy and we'll see if it shows up in my post.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Squeeze (56 min.).

Deb, Williamstown has a very good summer theater, although the last few seasons they seem to be doing mostly schlock. E.g., last summer they did Our Town, which has got to be one of the most boring plays I have ever read/watched. It's been around for ages and no longer seems even remotely pertinent to the way we live our lives NOW. They also did Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Forum--the old Zero Mostel musical--and I heard it was pretty well done, but it's just not my kind of thing. The last play I went to there was Bus Stop, with Elizabeth Banks in the role Marilyn Monroe played in the film version. It was pretty good. A few years ago now, they did As You Like It with Gwyneth Paltrow as Rosalind. It was excellent. She practically grew up here because her mother, Blythe Danner, was here every summer for the theater.

Valerie, I know what you mean about Yoga. My new dvd, Rockin' Models, has two sections of yoga that I find very challenging. I am pretty flexible--can do the splits--and touch my forehead to my shins, but holding poses are really hard for me.

Hi to Josie, Joan, and Cathy!

Good morning,
Finished week 4 of the C25K workouts!
047.gif
I can officially jog for 5 minutes without crashing. Next week is pretty daunting though...the rumor is that you have to jog for 20 minutes Yikes!! What's up with that? going from 5 minutes to 20???
We'll see how it goes.

It's 13 degrees here, high today will be 23... Woot!

Joan, good work on the workouts and the weight loss!

Valerie, are you getting a blue ray player? I am embarrassed to say I don't even know what those are. I am getting a Kindle for DH for Christmas, so I have been researching those. I think they can be good for travelling, rather than hauling 4 books with you. I don't think the smilies will work for you. You can download from free sites, but be careful, they can be nasty.

Garance, do you like Grace Lazenby?

Hi to Josie, & Cathy,

Stay warm,

For sure yoga is a process... I can touch my head to my shins if I'm standing leaning forward but not even close if I'm on the floor. My legs are very short from knee to foot so I think "lotus" is a dream for me. but that's Ok. there's other stuff I can do easily, like put my arm and elbow vertical behind my head.
Deb, the smilie didn't work. I'm using an older OS, I forget what it is, before vista. sometimes new things don't work. I switched to firefox browser after Explorer stopped working & crashing all the time and will use this til it poops out. DH has Win 7 and some things work better on it, like the cathe workout cards. print better on his.
Blu- Ray has higher resolution ( probably a lot more than that) than older DVD's. Blu- ray disks won't play on older players. older disks will play on blu ray players so it's backwards compatible ..as far as know we don't have to dump older DVD's and buy a new format like when the switch from VHS happened. I would get blu-ray when we need a new player but so far old ones are working fine.

Did the next leg disk and coremax 2 along with a 20 min bike warm up. I'm minimally sore. Upped the weight on many moves so I expected it.

Lynda, I can't get that movie, netflix lists it as not available yet. doesn't even have a release date there. how'd you get it so soon?

we're getting our kitchen floor refinished (swedish finish) starting tomorrow morning so I won't be around for a few days. we'll see how it goes ... don't think I'll have computer access.
