Good morning,

Today I did Cathe's RW HIIT Back, Shoulders & Biceps. I think this is the longest workout in the series, 52 minutes if you do it "as is". Lots of shorter premixes though.

Valerie, I missed the part that you were called back for your mammo...I agree with Lori, it is probably because the tech didn't take a clear enough view or something like that. Wow, Cobra can be very expensive...Is he not eligible for Medicare yet? That is sad about your nephew and his mom not knowing about the wedding.

Lori, glad you are back on track and able to do workouts again!

Lynda, I am in the market for a new phone, will have to turn in my work phone, ( a Blackberry that is so outdated!), but am resisting getting another Apple product. YOu have an "in" so I understand why they would get you an iPhone 6.

What does everyone else have and do you like it?

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Finishing HouseMax today, it's gloomy and kind of rainy here, but it beats snow. It was 50 degrees and sunny yesterday. Unbelievable for December!

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

To The Max was tough! For the Hiit with step I needed to use 2 risers instead of 3 and I was fine with this. This morning was Hiit Upper Body Circuit premix with no blasts all strength. For a quick upper body workout I feel the legs are worked great too in this one. Will be one of my go to with limited time.

When I met my cousins for lunch on Friday one of them gave me a couple of DVD's of old home videos they comverted to DVD. I started watching it last night and on it was a clip of my parents wedding. I never knew it was captured on Video and to see it when I was not expecting was very emotional. Both my parents passed years ago so seeing this was the best Christmas gift ever! I am making copies this morning for my brothers. Wanted to share this with you ladies. :)

My younger brother and his wife are visiting today so I can't wait for them to see the videos. Other than that it is football then we are all going to our favorite mexican restaurant for a late lunch early dinner.

Valerie..my family is very dysfunctional too. I have not spoken to my oldest brother in 4 years. His choice not mine. It used to bother me but I have moved on. One less dvd I need to make. His loss. LBB does have a bonus 17 minute Leg Drills which is separate from the actual workout. One of my favorite Cathe Barre work outs!

Lynda...nice gift. My DH and I love our Iphone 6's. We did not get the Plus which is the huge one. That one was just crazy big for us. Glad you enjoyed your sons.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

I did a fast 30 on the elliptical yesterday which was fine. I'm a little sore but not bad. Lori, when I first bought cathe DVD's I never looked at the pre mixes, just did whatever the main workout was. not sure why except we had a DVD player/remote that didn't work well and I tended to not move around a lot on the disks, just loaded them hit play to avoid problems. when I go back to older ones I will make a point of looking for premixes and bonuses.
while I was on the elliptical and nothing on TV to watch, I looked at 2 old Ab disks from Cathe. one was very old, another more recent. think it was Ab circuits? I watched one pilates based workout. will look thru the disk to see if there is anything that looks like fun. I don't care much for pilates. it was a surprise to find a disk I didn't know I had, buried in the box.

My sister is a walking disaster area, always lacked any interpersonal skills. very abrasive personality. Her son was around, sort of, until she got sick last winter. think he visited once or twice while she was hospitalized. he and his girlfriend walked away from their "underwater" house and disappeared. Our brother asked for help with a few small things but he didn't. no communication with anyone as far as I know. I've only met him once or twice, so no connection. He walked away from his mother & her side. from fb postings it looks like he has some contact with his fathers side. not my business or my problem but still sad to see this. My sisters daughter has moved far away also, leaving my sister with very little contact with anyone. she has no computer or internet skills to keep in touch, scrapes by on public assistance. it's just plain sad.

when out contract is up on our android phone, we will try an iphone next. usually they let you switch before the full 2 years but no notice yet. I have never liked this phone although it could be me and not the phone itself.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did 68 min. of BarreAmped.

Deb, I am definitely enjoying this new IPhone. I had a very old flip phone that I barely used because it was too difficult. Just used it when I was traveling. This IPhone is magical, it's so easy. Love taking pictures with it too. It lines up with my IPad, so I could actually read my books on it if I wanted such a small screen. I won't need a GPS either--just ask Siri to take me to .....wherever....and then she gives me directions. I really like its compatibility with the IPad.

Lori, that's fantastic that you actually now have a DVD of your parents' wedding. Hope the Patriots are ready for this one.

Valerie, that really is sad about your sister. What ever happened to her husband--did he leave her? divorce?

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!

Good morning,

It's Monday again...how did that happen so fast? I was up at 3:30, so decided to go ahead and get the workout out of the way. I know what is going on with the dogs waking up so early, our paper person is delivering at that time, she pulls her car in the driveway, (it has a muffler issue), shoves the paper through the mail slot, which drops into the front hall, slams her car door shut and takes off for the next house....this wakes them up and then I am awake.

Lori, kudos to you for doing that rotation that has those other workouts...those were so high impact, I sold them on Ebay. The circuit workouts are hard, I don't remember if I did the Blasts or not. I do remember thinking that the upper body one could be considered a total body circuit. My cousin had her mom & dad's wedding movie transferred to DVD and it was great to watch, trying to identify all the people.

Valerie, go look at those premixes! It will be like getting all new workouts! I bet I have done a lot of the older Cathe workouts, where I do a shorter "time saver" premix and never have done the whole workout, so funny that we did the opposite. For some reason I just can't see paying $100+ a month for a cell phone...or whatever it costs. I guess that is being spoiled by having a company phone all these years. I am actually looking into the $45 a month Walmart plan, where you buy your own phone, and there is no contract.

Lynda, the compatibility with the iPad is definitely a plus of the iPhone....but other droids and phones do much of the same thing that the iPhone does. Like the Samsung models etc. I'll have to see what is out there. This is one decision I am not looking forward to....so much easier when it was all taken care of by the company!

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Late class tonight, if I make it!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie (63:00).

Deb, I think I would cancel my paper if that roused Max at 3:30 A.M. and woke me up as well. I don't know how you manage to work out at 3:30 A.M. How is the NG diet going?

Just finished watching a very good series on BBC America called The Game. Set in the 1970s I think and it felt like a LeCarre spy thriller.

Sounds like it's getting colder for the New Year. Darn! We are going out and I wanted to wear something festive as opposed to something bulky and warm.

Hi Ladies,

I have been busy with the kids so, not much time for anything else. My DD had a dentist appointment this morning and took the peanuts with her to give me a break. She promised them breakfast :). My DH and I are going out to dinner on the 31st and plan to get home early to open a bottle of champagne to bring in the new year.

I received a GoPro for Christmas, but I'm so bad at technology that I'm considering taking it back. I'm a minimalist when it comes to gadgets. When I use to run marathons all I used was my watch and on my bike I just have the speedometer and my tools to change a flat. I don't want my DH and DD to feel bad :(. What should I do?

Lori, glad that your eye is better. The DVD you received is such a wonderful present.

Deb, I love my I-Phone and I just upgraded to the 5S and since I received some cash for Christmas I was considering upgrading my I-Pad. My DM got the I-Phone 6 and loves it.

Valerie, I'm like you. I have never done the premixes either.

Garance, I love using Siri and my DH is finally going to get an I-Phone, he was like Deb using the Blackberry that was provided by his job.

Hi to Judy!

Josie

On recent disks I've done pre mixes, but not for most of the older disks. It will probably be like new workouts.

Yesterday I did 20 on the elliptical, 20 in the treadmill, and then core 1 and 2. I never got very sore from LBB... a big relief! this morning we went xc skiing. it was peaceful and beautiful out. the snow was a little thin where we started but got better as we went up. a good 2 hour workout with most of the work going uphill one way. I was worried about coming back down and not jamming my shoulder . it is slowly continuing to improve but I didn't want to do anything that would send it back to being painful. DH was not very supportive about a cortisone injection, and as long as it was improving I agreed to wait it out. .

Josie, I am not a big gadget person either. I get annoyed more than anything. If you really don't think you'd use it, take it back. I'd explain why nicely to whoever gave it to you because that's a lovely gift but... just letting it sit in a drawer is a waste. I have a plain wrist watch with a timer, my bike has a basic (wired) set up for speed and mileage. simple works best for me.

Deb DH is not old enough for medicare. he's only 60. so we will need to be in the general marketplace for 5 years. we knew that when he retired early, but I'm older than he is and we didn't want to wait another 5 years....who knows how many "good" years you have to travel and do things at this point?
Our experience is that apple products work well and there is knowledgeable support if something doesn't. we have the ipod, ipad, and apple TV. we will try an iphone next. our phone contract for one phone with Verizon including the mobile hot spot ( extra $10 a month) is $86. We share one phone as DH would not carry one around even if he had one.

Lynda, she has been divorced for a long time. must be 20 years now. her husband divorced her when she refused to make some quite reasonable changes he wanted. he remarried but no more children, and he does not seem close to the two he has. I have no connection to the children and had a clash with the daughter last year when I tried to let her know her mother was in the hospital. my sister has had ongoing health problems in addition to not getting along with anyone.

Hi Everyone,

We got back from Colorado Springs late Saturday night. We had a nice time. Colorado is beautiful! I didn't want to come back to Michigan after spending a couple of days there. DH is thinking he wants us to move there. He won't get an argument from me. I would move tomorrow.
I took most of the week off from training and didn't do anything significant while we were gone. Yesterday I did RWH Plyo One and today I did Lift It HiiT It Back, Shoulders and Biceps. Also did a little core and tricep work.

Deb-I got an iPhone 6 Plus last month and I love it! At first I thought I would go with the regular 6, but when I saw the Plus at the Apple Store I had to try it. It is big, but it feels perfect for me. That's probably because I use my phone more like a tablet. I rarely get calls or call anyone. I spend more time texting or using Facebook or taking photos. The screen is big enough to watch videos and read Kindle books easily too. We used it as GPS on our trip and it was the perfect size for that.

Valerie- I agree with Deb and Lori, the tech probably didn't take a good enough view.

Lori-that is so cool about the video of your parents wedding. That is an awesome gift and I'm sure it was very emotional. I wish I had a video of my parents wedding.

Lynda-I agree about the iPhone. It is so easy to use and the photos are great. It's the best camera I've ever had.

Josie-I agree with Valerie, if you don't think you will use the GoPro, it would be ok to return it. On the other hand, you might like it if you try it out. You could take videos of your bike rides and put them on YouTube. I've been considering something like that. Garmin makes one called a "Virb" and that is probably the one I would try.

Good morning,

Rest day for me. We got home a little later than usual last night too, so I am glad for this new 5 day rotation! :).

Lynda, I don't know what to do about the paper delivery. We want it before we go to work, but not that early! Maybe when I retire we will go to bed a little later and the dogs will stay asleep when she delivers it. I can only hope! The holidays sidetracked my NG eating plan, started back on it yesterday. What is BBC America? A cable station?

Josie, you have a very nice New Year's Eve planned. We usually get something like king crab legs and steak and cook here. We haven't done that yet. Not sure if there will be any left when we go to the store tomorrow! I agree with Valerie, you should explain that the gift was great, but you are afraid you won't use it and it will be wasted. Is there something else you really want?

Valerie, I agree with your thinking on not waiting another 5 years. Cobra is an alternative, but very expensive. When you say "general market" for health care, are you signing up for what is offered in your state with the ACA? My retirement health care is the same plan as what I have now while working, however it's 4 times as expensive. John will go on Medicare in October so it will go down once he does that.

Judy, I can see how the iPhone 6+ would work if it was used like you said, I already have an iPad, and a Nook, so the phone will just be mostly used as a phone. I am not one that really spends a lot of time on a cell phone, I use it only when I really need to call someone and am not near a land line. I guess I need to look around more. It sounds like Colorado may be where you live in the future.

Hi to Lori,
What is everyone besides Josie doing for New Year's Eve?

Work, then 5 glorious days off!

Deb, DH has been retired since sept 2013. cobra was expensive but there's a time limit. I don't remember exactly how it worked but when I lost my job way-back-when, I also stayed on cobra until I couldn't anymore but switched to DH's plan. he has a new plan selected from the ACA but we will know more when it takes effect late January. it's expensive but no matter how much you read -there will be surprises. his drug coverage has been excellent but now we might need to pay more for "maintenance" drugs. we had been able to order his BP meds 3 months at a time at zero cost and that will probably change.

we also get early morning paper delivery. being rural, it goes into the paper 'tube" on the mailbox post on the road. I usually hear the car but can sleep thru it. maybe you could set up a tube so the paper would be right outside but not thru the door slot? I suppose the doggies might be awakened by the sound of the car regardless but might be worth a try. I'm not ready to get up at 3:30!

we did a xc ski yesterday morning. it was lovely. snow was terrific and the drive was easy..... sometimes it's not. we are clear and cold right now thru new years day. we didn't ski much last year so it felt kind of challenging. , about 2 hours up and back down.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Deb, BBC America is a cable station. They broadcast Orphan Black. The Game will probably show up some time on Amazon and/or Netflix. Our driveway is very long, so mail and papers arrive at a considerable distance for hearing. We're going out to dinner with friends on New Year's Eve and maybe briefly to a party. DH really cannot stay up late to bring in the new year. Too hard for him the next day with all of his animals.

Josie, I don't even know what a GoPro is. I have myriad problems with gadgets, which is why I told DH not to get me a Roomba, even though it would be nice given how much both DH and Max shed. I really could vacuum every day to keep up with what they bring in. He bought me a bracelet instead---and a new ironing board because I complained so much about the one I have.

Judy, will your husband easily find a job in Colorado? Or are you thinking of it as a retirement home? I know that some cities in the Southwest are regarded as retirement friendly--Albuquerque and Brownsville--but I thought Colorado might be more expensive.

Very cold here too, Valerie. What does your DH have against cortisone shots?

Hi to Lori!

Hi Ladies,

I told my DH and DD that I wanted to return the GoPro. My DD was not to happy about it because she wanted me to try it. I went to YouTube to check out how to use it and it was just to complicated for me. Also, the print on the gadget is so small that I would have to carry my reading glasses to set it or make changes. I also told my DD that its one more thing to worry about being stolen from my bike. I'm going to use the money to upgrade my I-Pad :).

Judy, glad that you had a great time in Colorado. My DH and I considered moving there at one point, but I decided that I did not want to deal with the harsh winters. I'm a California girl :).

Garance, the GoPro is a little video camera that can be attached to my helmet or the handle bars on my bike. It can also be used for many other sports.

Deb, glad that you have some time off. Enjoy!

Valerie, I'm so envious of you. I have always wanted to try XC skying.

Hi to Lori!

Josie

so funny... I had to re-log just now and before I did the cathe site turned back to orange. Did NOT look right.

there is all kinds of Gopro footage being posted by mountain bikers and skiers and other outdoor people. they mount the camera often on their helmets. I don't do anything exciting enough to record. still pics are preferable. It looks like something to worry about getting stolen and needing to remember to bring along. I think an ipad upgrade sounds more way more useful.
I also do not find gadgets especially fun or intuitive. I get frustrated and don't want to deal with more than I need to.

at one time I thought about moving to Colorado but ended up in WA instead. the job market there was pretty tough and pay was much lower there for some reason. It' s a gorgeous state to visit but I also was tired of Wisconsin winters and Colorado sounded just as bad.

Josie xc skiing is not difficult to learn. to be "really good" takes some skill, but mostly it's not difficult if you are in any kind of decent shape, which obviously you are. It takes more skills than snowshoeing, but can be a lot faster way to travel. snowshoeing is plodding both directions, while skiing gives you a fun ride downhill if you've climbed up something. it does require cold weather! I like that we can go to the snow and then drive home and not live in it daily. we've gone on a lot of vacations to ski.

Lynda, I don't know why he's being so reluctant about a cortisone shot. I have not given up the idea but will wait until the holidays are done. if it's still bothersome I will schedule something. I'm getting awfully tired of this.

Good morning,

Today I did Cathe HIIT Legs ( no Blasts). This is a great leg workout....quick and intense.

We are going back to the vet this morning, Kylee started the "involuntary urinating" again. She doesn't even realize she is doing it. I am at my wit's end with this. We are seeing my favorite vet, so maybe he will have a different idea about it. Bringing in a sample again to be analyzed.

Will check back later to see what everyone is up to....

Take care,

Deb, hope you get some ideas.... remember, my kitty had urinating problems a short time ago. tiny little "clumps" of pee all over the litter box from where he'd pee little drops. after the food switch, he quickly went back to normal. the little crystals/stones that were blocking somewhere along the urinary tract must have passed or dissolved. he completely normal now. clmping kitty litter gives a really clear "visual" of when things are normal.
I hope you get some good input and a new approach and make whatever changes are needed.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:16).

Deb, I hope your vet finds a solution for Kylee's problem and it is something you can manage without a lot of trouble.

Josie, it's always hard to tell someone that a gift isn't quite right, but given how expensive the GoPro is, I imagine it would be even worse to just put it away and not use it--and then your daughter would notice it anyway and be upset that you aren't using her gift.

Very blustery and cold here today.

Valerie, the cortisone shot might not work for you, but WTH, it's worth a try. You've been dealing with the shoulder for quite awhile now.

Well ladies, are there any resolutions being made for next year? I am hoping rather than resolving that my trip to Rancho La Puerta is rejuvenating. I've signed up for the morning hikes and bought some decent hiking shoes.

Enjoy the waning hours of 2014 everyone!

Good afternoon ladies!

Been doing well with my RWH rotation that I have chosen. Yesterday was my rest day. I started building closets in the basement and I was up and down the stairs so not sure if it actually was a rest day! With my eye issue I did not want to be painting and sanding my kitchen cabinets this week so had to make other plans. I have a ton of projects to do so it was easy as just looking at my list and picking one. Today will be RWH Lift it Hiit it Legs. I just got home from work (needed to go in for a few hours) so I will do it at some point.

Josie...This summer I bought a GoPro! My son uses it more but I wanted to capture our hikes. It is fun and I enjoy it. But it is not for everyone. If it is something you would not use then it made sense to return. Upgrading your Ipad was a great idea!

Deb....that is terrible about the newspaper delivery! That would drive us nuts! Poor Kylee. Hope all is well. Please let us know.

Valerie...it has been years since I have been xcountry skiing. My x husband and I used to go all the time. I think the last time I went I was expecting Nicholas. I found out a week later that I was pregnant. Had no clue at the time. I have all the equipment. Some day I would like to pick it up again as I really enjoyed it. So sad about your sister and her family.

Lynda...when are you going to the Ranch? I remember you telling us and remember how nice it sounded. It is sooooo cold here. Goes right thru you! Funny that you mentioned your DH sheds! I know what you mean though because of all the animals he is around. It still sounds funny.

Judy...sounds like you had a nice time. When we move it will only be to warmer climate. We are done with the winters here in New England. I want heat and sun! I can see why you would want the larger phone. I do more with my Ipad then my phone so I like the smaller one. A friend of mine has the plus and he loves it. Uses it like you do. This makes complete sense.

No plans for this evening. We always say we are going to stay up and watch the ball drop but we very rarely make it!

Happy New Years!!!

We went on an hour and a half walk/hike. nothing technical, fast with some uphill and down. a waterfront park an hour away. surrounded by water. trails were icy but workable. clear beautiful blue sky day. that will be enough for today.

Jose, my thoughts are similar to Lynda's. If you kept the camera and didn't use it, it would be obvious quickly. better be honest and admit it isn't something you will use. honest and upfront won't leave her wondering what was wrong with her gift.

I really like xc skiing.. it's what DH and I did on our honeymoon. we don't do it as much as we used to but it varies by the year with snow conditions and available roads/trails. I don't care for groomed trails( the tracks are too far apart and I get sore knees) and sometimes it's hard to find ungroomed places that aren't over run with snowmobiles or snowshoers. both of those activities have increased a lot and can conflict with xc skiing with limited places to go. some years we get too much snow and can't get to any "good" areas. places right next to a hwy tend to get totally hammered. I never was a good enough skier to do any backcountry skiing though I used to downhill ski a bit but got tired of it when I didn't improve and it got more and more expensive. .

I have a cardiology appt Monday that's zero stress, semi annual device check, then the mammogram "rerun" later in the day. DH is adamant that I should never again get a mamm done during Christmas /new years because followup is such a long wait and I lose sleep worrying, I hope for no reason. if all goes OK with those I will make an appt with orthopedics for a look at my shoulder. I don't think it's anything worse than tendonitis since I had no injury but I'm unhappy it's taking so blasted long to improve enough to let me do anything. I'm tired of working around it and worrying.
