Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B 12/27

Today I did Raw Box and Tone 35 minutes, 171 calories, heart rate 122/160, 2,610 steps. I also did Walk Strong 3 yoga stretch and strengthen, 31 minutes, 39 calories, heart rate 82/102, 128 steps. Total time 66 minutes, 210 calories, 2738 steps.

Valerie, thanks for getting us started. I hope the drizzle lets up for you so you can still go for a ride.

Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy practice for 18 minutes. This is my rest day and that was the only thing that I did.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you are able to do some workouts. I know that makes you feel better mentally as well as physically.

Valerie, glad you were able to get in a ride in spite of the rain. Running out of fruit and vegetables is usually what sends me to the store. I’ve been relying on frozen vegetables more to cut down on my trips to the store.

Cathy, my daughter adopted a Labrador Retriever mix. She has been wanting another dog for about a year and is very happy with this one.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

I did Live Arms and Abs on the ball. I've done this one before and it's a good overall workout.

Diane Sue great job on the workout! I'm sure it feels good to be working out again.

Valerie glad to hear you were able to get your ride in today!

Carolyn labs are great! We had a lab/retriever/shepherd mix that passed away a couple years ago and he was the best dog (especially after he outgrew his need to steal and destroy shoes!)

Good morning. Today I did Low Max, combos 1-3. That was 40 minutes and 273 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 164.

Cathy, nice job with Live Arms and Abs on the ball.

Hello to Everyone. Have a great day.

Today I did Perfect 30 Perfect Pump Upper body + extended stretch 37 minutes, 70 calories, heart rate 88/123, 415 steps. That is all I did. I had yard workers back out for leveling some more and had to run to the UPS store to drop off a return. I ended up cancelling my Arthritis appointment till next month. I still have a bit of residual cough and some sinus issues. They said not to come in if there is any cough or sniffles. Now I will be working my appointments around school. I did not push the weights too much. I really felt somewhat weak. I will have to get my strength back. Gertie gave the landscaper guys a scare this morning. I did not know they were coming and they did not come to the door. She wanted outside and when I let her out I noticed the gate was open and went to close it. Then I heard voices in back and went to check it out. One of the guys was on top of the fence climbing over. The other did not seem afraid, but I am sure with a large black lab running out there and no where to go it was scary. They should have texted or knocked. Anyway, the other guy came back into the yard and settled down with her out there. She was hopping around all happy. They had to leave to get something to try to push the grass down more rather than pull it up and kill the newly rooted grass. It still back washes onto the walk way.
I need to work on my diet. Being sick I have eaten whatever sounds like something I can handle. I have had stomach issues and my daughter had asked if the colonoscopy had said anything about diverticulosis. I went back and looked, and yes, it was in there. I think all of the grains and crackers that I have eaten so much of just has not set well. I tried really bland for a few days and it got better, but then the last couple of days it just was awful painful. Makes me afraid to eat. I think I am alright if I just stick with what I was normally eating.

Cathy, I think I have done the live arms and abs on the ball before and was disappointed because it was really all upper body and included shoulder work. I couldn't figure out why it was called arms and did more than just arms. Anyway, I think it was that one. I like working out on the ball.

Carolyn, nice work on Low Max today.

Yes, it does make me feel better getting in some workouts. Hoping to be more back to normal when school starts in a week and things kick back up into high gear where I am busy constantly. I rather enjoyed being able to sit and lie around for awhile.

Carolyn, I have tried picking up frozen fruits and vegetables and they end up sitting in the freezer for long periods of time and I keep buying fresh. I threw some spinach out that had been opened because it had sat there so long, I couldn't remember when it was purchased. Same with some frozen pineapple that I thought I wanted for smoothies. I had to make a trip to Sprouts yesterday because whole foods was missing a couple of things and I quit buying potatoes from Whole Foods because they kept giving me dinky potatoes and new potatoes.
My husband said one of the ladies at work had boston terrier pups in the office. He said he was tempted to get one, but she wanted 2000 dollars for a pup. I told him Gertie was enough, I did not want to train a pup right now anyway. But, they really are cute.

we are back from our snow adventure. wanted to ski but not enough snow down low enough. drove to second location and decided to hike up to the snow carrying snowshoes. so hiked uphill for 45 min, put on snowshoes and went up hill another hour. an old road/trail that is all overgrown. a huge amount of work to climb over under and through the trees. the small trees/branches get pinned down by snow and buried, sometimes you are walking over flattened trees with air under the snow so you can fall through. not "tree wells", but something similar. went until we got to huge tree across the road that was just too big to maneuver past, had lunch and went back down. total 3 hours 45 minutes. this was way harder than it sounds! I am absolutely whipped.

$2000 for a puppy? wow. no idea a regular normal dog cost anything like that. I guess I would be a "mutt" kind of dog person! good you are able to start working out again but take it slow. I always get sore even if I only skipped a week and you've been quiet for a couple weeks. . my colonoscopy shows have diverticulosis. I eat fruits, vegies and grains, the more fiber the better. I have no idea what would be recommended, but that's what works for me.

I did Cardio Party today. Tomorrow I either have to start a lot earlier or wait till after 10 to workout because someone is coming to look at the furnace and give us an estimate on a new one.

Valerie the breed of puppy my sister has is generally $2000-3000 from a reputable breeder. Certainly not something I would do, but he is adorable.

Glad you were able to snowshoe today! It certainly sounds tough.

Diane Sue sounds like you got a great workout in. Yes, I think you are remembering Arms and Abs correctly. It hits all the upper body areas. And it has certainly left me sore today. Especially outer pecs. Ouch! Sorry to hear you are having digestive issues. We always had to contain our lab mix, because he wanted to be in the middle of everything and thought the repair people were only their to see HIM! LOL Only exception was when our neighbor did stuff for us, because they were over the fence buddies.

Carolyn nice job on Low Max. I always wondered why Cathe chose to do combos with breakdowns for that one instead of doing the combos like a regular IMAX, since the format was combo/blast just like the IMAX workouts.

Good morning,

Sunday I did Perfect Pump Total Body 35 min, 196 calories, Monday Perfect Hiit Low Impact 30 min, 221 cal and today I did Perfect Pump Upper Body with
bonus + extended stretch, 45 minutes, 239 calories.

Valerie, you are doing great with the elliptical and doing the upper levels. Too bad about the refrigerator ice maker etc. :( Our old frig ice maker would stop making ice if the ice cubes in it started to defrost, then refreeze again. We would have to dump it all out, and start it back empty to make ice again. Glad you figured out what was wrong.

Carolyn, nice job on the Gym Style workouts! Assume you are doing the December rotation? that sounds like a great way to spend Christmas, with being able to see others open gifts etc. Congratulations on your daughter's new puppy!

Cathy, the new watch seems to cover it all! I always say that the people that write those manual should actually hand them out to 50 people with the new device and see what issues they have, what is missing, what is totally confusing to the average person!

Diane Sue, yes, Christmas was as good as it could be I guess. John and I were alone. We had a Zoom family call on Christmas eve. Nice that they gave you that $25 credit. Glad that you are able to go out, shop etc, but sorry to hear you are having stomach issues. You are probably correct in that you were eating more things that you are not used to eating. I can imagine what those workers must have thought, until they saw how Gertie was really. :)

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

I didn’t get to work out today. I had to go grocery shopping as well as some other errands. That took most of the morning.

Cathy, nice work with Cardio Party—always a fun workout.

Deb, great job with the Perfect 30 workouts. I was doing the December rotation, but this week is more miscellaneous whatever I feel like doing.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, Valerie, and Lori. Enjoy your day everyone.

Deb it worked out OK. fridge was fine, just the GFI switch got tripped by the wavering on/off power. Im ready to buy a new garage refrigerator any time I need to. just a plain box, no ss or ice maker features. I have space limited in the kitchen to a side by side and they are notorious for not holding much. cant even get a pizza in the freezer.
Cathy hope you enjoyed Cardio party. in my dreams!.

we went for a walk in a wildlife refuge this morning. not as interesting as we hoped. its still duck hunting season, and not many birds were around. still 90 minutes of walking outside in the cold. I think that will be enough for today.

I sent my sister a check for xmas that never got there. check has not shown up and it was mailed at the PO on dec 13th. wow. that is just pathetic. I am assuming it was mis- delivered and will sent her another. she is complaining about terrible mail service with her checks not getting to the cable company etc. I don't know how much is her just complaining to complain, something she's famous for, and how much is bad service.

Valerie-USPS is really having problems right now. I ordered something in late November that was supposed to be here by Dec 15th. It's still moving through USPS. It's been in the Detroit area since Dec. 8th, just moving back and forth between post offices. I can see all this through informed delivery on the USPS site.

I did Live Express Your Step #279 which includes ab stacker abs, 44 minutes, heart rate average 110/157,(the 110 seems low for average) 186 calories, 3,217 steps. I then did Perfect 30 mobility timesaver stretch, 20 minutes, 19 calories, heart rate 75/91, 22 steps. Total time 64 minutes, 205 calories, 3, 239 steps.

I did the last of my 1RM's today. Took about 40 minutes. So, now I just have to get them all entered before Monday. After that I did Step Boss Lying Stretch.

Carolyn great job with the workouts! The watch I have was only recently released and I'm hoping over the next few weeks more how to use videos show up on YouTube. I get the basics, but there are some weird things that it does, that I don't know how to change the settings on. Like on the app, my temp shows up in F, but on the watch itself it's only in Celsius. Weird. And there are two settings that you can put on 24 hour. One is alarms, but I haven't figured out what the other one is for, as they both just say 24 hour with a box to check.

Valerie I've had some of the same issues Judy has with the PO. Our mail comes through one that had it's sorting machine(s) destroyed. I'm going to have to order DH's birthday presents on his prime account, because when I put it on mine they wouldn't arrive till almost February. And it's not even January yet! My Cathe calendar was shipped from NJ and got to me within a couple days, I think they used priority mail, but my watch which was also in NJ took over a week and a half longer.

Diane Sue it's great that you are back to doing cardio! I've got to check that one out.

Judy, I am hesitating to send another check because she had trouble with other mail too. bills she paid that have not arrived like for cable tv. I told her to put it on her credit card as she can't afford to pay a bunch of 'stop pay" fees on checks. I keep hearing detroit and indiana as bottle necks for some reason. it seems it is outgoing and incoming mail for her. this was just a plain first class envelope, nothing I would have tracked.

Valerie, I think my daughter paid around a thousand for her lab. It has been years since I actually paid for a dog. Gertie was an abandoned street puppy. I have that problem with two side by side refrigerators. I miss the freezer for the space. We have a wildlife refuge area close by. When my children were small it was nice to go out there and walk in the mornings. Often we were by ourselves and there was a prairie dog out look place. Last time I went with my daughter, there were so many people there. They put in picnic tables and a big playground near a small lake and it was just not the same. It might have been better walking back through the woods. It is my understanding the deer travel from our area back and forth to the nature center.
I saw one all by itself a couple of days ago when I went out. I stopped for it anticipating it was going to cross the street in front of me when a car was coming from the other direction. I am guessing it got away from the herd as on the other side where it was headed, you often see large groups. You are right on foods to eat, but suggestion is when you have inflammation and pain is to cut out certain foods and eat bland or just a liquid diet so the inflammation can resolve then build back in all of the fiber. I guess sometimes if it gets too bad it can be infected and antibiotics may be needed. It is getting better.
USPS is having problems. They keep putting out emails with informed delivery about being short staffed because of covid. I seem to be getting my mail okay though. I pay my bills online so only a couple of things have to be mailed out. The thing that gets me is if I mail order stamps it takes days for them to get here and I have to pay a lot for shipping. I just don't like to go to the post office. It always has lines. And my packages often seem to get stuck in Kansas or Texas bouncing around from place to place.

Cathy, Gertie is like that. She thinks anyone that comes around is there for her and really wants petted till I make her lie down my me and stay. I hope you got your things done and got your workout in today.

Deb, I forgot about the bonuses on Perfect 30. I could have added the bonus to the upper body. I probably did enough anyway. I am sure it is a cross of being ill and the food I have been eating. It is getting better. I was going to just go back in the house with Gertie, but the main guy asked me to come back there and show him where the water holding problem was. He just petted Gertie and the other guy was fine with it after that.
Christmas is not the same when we are used to family and have to do it alone. I am taking down our tree and stuff tonight.

Carolyn, I almost went to Dollar General yesterday after UPS, but didn't now I will probably be sorry as we have snow and sleet coming in over the next 3 days. I really could have used some soap and that sort of thing. I ended up ordering laundry soap from Amazon as I am almost out. I just wasn't thinking about that till I saw the weather.

I don't know why I was so surprised at the cost of a puppy. even mutts from the pound arent cheap. so far 'my sister has not pressed for another dog. she is finally noticing she doesn't have cash even for necessities like taxes. I wish she would move into a senior living facility where she could have support on rides to appointments and internet. she might learn a few things tho it seems she hasn't learned a thing since 1960. doesn't use features on her land line. I try to leave messages. I use another phone to generate "call waiting" on her phone so she is reminded of how it works. she answers junk calls. the "paid for" cell phone is plugged into the wall and not used for 2+ years now. keeps complaining her daughter wont answer her calls, but will she use text? not a chance.

diane sue costco is the best place to get stamps. so easy there. you never mention it, so maybe no costco there? outside of right before xmas, there are no lines at the PO anymore. none. I pick up mail after we travel and its unusual to see 2 people in there if you go mid day. changed a lot in the last few years. we put our routine bills on autopay and are happy with it. nice to have routine bills covered automatically.

we only put up a wreath on our door this year. I pitched the xmas cards yesterday. done! New years eve used to be my favorite holiday but its pretty uninteresting these days. will do a costco run today and maybe pick up some special seafood for dinner.

I liked the side by side fridge when I first got it. due to cabinets, its my only choice. no way can you get even a small pizza in the freezer! same for a small turkey. funny the things you dont think of when you get all excited about a new appliance. our old fridge in the garage is a side- by- side. all Ive had for the last several houses. our house in montana is a bottom freezer style. its nice to have the width of a regular fridge. haven't had that in a kitchen for a long time.

Today I did JS HiiT Walk from her 30 Day Plan. That was 30 minutes and 216 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 152. I also did LiTE Extended Stretch number 1 for 12 minutes. I finished taking down the Christmas trees today.

Diane Sue, nice job with Live Express Your Step and P30 Mobility timesaver.

Cathy, that’s great that you finished the 1 Rep Max exercises. You are all set for STS now.

Valerie, we are also experiencing severe delays with deliveries from the Postal Service. Some items have taken as long as 3 weeks. My daughter is still waiting for something that shipped on December 9th. Today they don’t seem to know where it is. No tracking information is available.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

Today I did Cathe Live #327 Christmas Wonderland 202, 46 minutes, 203 calories, heart rate 116/146, 3,240 steps. This uses 3 and 5 # dumbbells and does not have a lot of high impact in it. First 24 minutes works on the floor and around a mat then at 24 minutes Cathe uses the step top. It was kind of fun. Maybe a bit much on my shoulders though. There is some squat thrusts and burpees. I also did Walk Strong 3 Abs Add on with Jessica Smith, 16 minutes, 29 calories, heart rate 92/121, 120 steps. I finished with the first 10 minutes of Walk Strong 3 deeps stretch, 8 calories, 8 steps. I had a call for someone looking at the house later this afternoon and needed to pick up. Silly realtor came two hours early and tried to just walk in only to be be greeted by Gertie. The lock box is on the water hydrant so I did not hear her getting the key. I told them we would leave in a little bit and she apologized for coming so early. My husband had just got up. Anyway, this was the second time I have had cancellations. Right after they came to the door, I went to tell my husband and make the bed and they texted and cancelled. That could get old real quick. On the plus, housework is all done. Cathe seemed to get a little lost a couple of times on the Christmas workout, but I can only imagine how she was feeling with the mask and the beard over the top of it. She stopped to turn some air on them once.
Total time was 72 minutes, 240 calories, 3,368 steps.

Cathy, I have never done the 1 rep max . I started once with STS and I am an impatient person. I just wanted to do the workout and really had no care as to what my one rep max was. I managed to build strength and up how much I could lift without doing it. I guess it gives people a starting point to go by.
I personally think the the usps has gotten where it has lousy service. I have had so many issues with them and over the six years we have lived in this house, they have not addressed anything I have brought up to them. Including missing mail. They have a place to say you did not get it, but they do nothing! My community mail box leaks and I have contacted them multiple times and moved up to the higher command on it and I got nothing. I just have to dry out my mail and be glad we don't get pay checks in our mail box anymore. Express Your Step was all familiar moves. Not hard to do at all.

Valerie, we have a new Costco here. It is not real close and when we would drive by at first it was always really busy. I have never been. Sams is closer, but I am not paying for a membership again because last time we had one, we just did not use it hardly at all. I am more happy to drive around the corner. Our post office are sparse. One post office covers a lot of area. I have never been to the one nearest us without standing in line. Most of my visits were because the post office claimed to have tried to deliver a package, which was a lie. They just stuck the slip in my mail box and every time I asked for redelivery they did not bother. They just kept it at the post office for days till I came to pick it, up. A lot of people use the machines in the lobby. I have not received any mail for two days now which seems odd. No informed delivery either.
We did not put up as much this year since we have the house up for sale. My husband set up the tree and decorated it. I did the coffee table and we put a wreath out on the door step. All of the other stuff we usually put out stayed in the containers. It did not take me long to put it all away last night.
Normally I have all kinds of things to hang and sit around and a dancing santa and mrs claus that the grandchildren drive everyone crazy with. This was a quiet holiday. In some ways I didn't mind the peace. I did lots of reading and relaxing.

Carolyn, nice work today on JS Hiit Walk. I wonder what the post office's real problem is? I am glad most of my packages come via Amazon. I did get a Christmas card from a friend in Ca.. My bills seem to be showing up that are mailed. I always request paper bills along with paying on line. Just a precaution. I don't like relying on media for everything.
