Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/27

Morning & Happy New Year's Eve!

Yesterday I did ICE Low Impact Sweat 1 w/Icey Core 2 premix. I did notice the music on this one..it was a little loud but it didn't bother me...I just tune it out...One more workout for week 4 rotation, it's the kickbox one which I will sway out for a lower bode one, then I start the real rotation over with week one.

I slept in today, very late for me. The dogs got us up at 3:30, John took them down and I slept until 6:45! I feel like the morning is gone. LOL

Lynda, I have that same imbalance....my right hip is not as flexible...I think it's bursitis. Check out your library for the Doc Martin DVD's....you can get them all and do a weekend binge, or one at a time and space it out. That is so convenient, no streaming, etc. You probably would have to request them and wait, that is why I do one disk at a time. Once I requested 1 & 2, and of course #2 came first so I had to wait and binge watch both. Not a problem though. Maybe I will cave and ask John if he wants to go see the Star Wars movie.

Lori, cudos to you for being able to complete those bear claws....I do some modified thing that isn't even close to a Bear Crawl....LOL. Sounds like you are having great fun with your new watch. :).

Hi to Valerie, Josie, & Judy,

We are going to our favorite Indian food restaurant tonight...they are having a buffet and belly dancers. That should be interesting. :) I'm sure we will be home by 7:00....and asleep by 10.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone--

This morning I did the Ice Kickbox (47:55). I really like this one. Cathe starts out fast and it just never seems to slow down. I do a little jumping on this one because I feel so energized.

We are going out to our favorite restaurant tonight, and there's a party so I will get to dance for a bit, but I think we won't stay up to ring in the new year unless our neighbors are doing fireworks and wake us up.

Deb, bellydancing sounds like fun! I wonder how many people would be at a late night showing of The Force Awakens?

Finally managed to get the credenza and the top to UPS today, but, of course, the holiday tomorrow means it won't get on a truck until Monday. On Monday, I will get the keys to my college office and see if I can get some work done there.

Do any of you remember the film Gigi? They are doing a marathon of Oscar winning films on TCM and I just happened to see a bit of it. I was horrified. It's really about grooming a young girl to become a courtesan and it creeped me out. I guess because it is supposed to be in France and the 19th c. it didn't offend Puritan sensibilities--oh, those French! But it reminded me of Pretty Woman, except in this one a prostitute is being groomed to become a pretty woman worthy of marriage. Weird!

Happy New Year! See you all in 2016!

Good morning. PT went very well on Tuesday, he taped my knee to hold my kneecap in place. WHAT a difference. I knew it was becoming harder and harder to bend without discomfort. I am still taped but need to take it off today. he thinks exercise while taped will help restore proper knee rom. but it is a several month project. I'm hoping a brace will work. not sure how much taping my skin will take happily.

we did a 90 min mountain bike Tuesday afternoon at the tree farm. wed we went snowshoeing. 4 hours 45 min. intended to ski as there is loads of snow now, but could not drive high enough and the snow down lower was very crusted. breakable crust. deadly for skiing. the mountains for 13 feet of snow in December. so we snowshoed instead. 1500 feet gain, a couple miles. snowshoeing is really exhausting though, uphill and crummy snow conditions. lovely out though . saw loads of critter tracks.... a huge elk (or one with especially big feet), deer, rabbits, fox. bald eagles all over, saw a group of at least 20 soaring over head. snowshoeing is slow and you can look at details. xc skiing is much faster if conditions are decent. then on the way home we had a tire blow out abruptly, so spent 45 min at Les Schwab getting the flat repaired. there was a drill bit inside the tire! must have driven over it and it got all the way inside. we heard a strange thump while driving and shortly after got the tire pressure warning light.

I feel like a slouch since I haven't done any workouts, but need to steer clear until my knee is better. I may be able to use a brace or tape it myself for workouts. not sure yet. I plan on at least looking at them while I do things where my knee doesn't have to bend too deeply. I am wondering if there is a problem with the CUB disk I have? haven't had a chance to re load it and give it another listen.

Deb, the Bloodline series is one of those told in flashbacks. started out strong but not sure where they are going with it. the
British seem to do a nicer job than Hollywood does. a fairly dysfunctional family and hard to like anyone very much.

I don't remember seeing Gigi. Audrey Hepburn?
we will skip the star wars movie at least for now. crowded. DH doesn't want to bother with it and I'd go if he wanted to, but I don't like crowded theaters and that's a given right now.
we are going out for lunch and shopping at a nursery with cousin and wife. not my idea of great fun but they don't want to do anything outdoors because it's cold... clear and sunny. they've been good about doing what we want many times so we agreed and will make the best of it.

Hi Ladies,

I went to bodypump this morning and plan on running tomorrow before the peanuts wake up :). My ankle is 100% now and have not felt any discomfort and want to test it out on my run tomorrow. We are going out to dinner with my DD and the peanuts and will be home before midnight so that my DD can go out and celebrate with her friends.

Lori, no worries on the DVD's, just send them whenever you can.

Deb, it seems like you are liking the new workouts a lot. Gold's gym is adding more early classes starting in January and this will make it easier for me to train for my long ride in June.

Valerie, no Star Wars movie for me either. I took the kids to see Daddy's Home yesterday. It was funny and silly, but they loved it.

Judy, how is Chino doing?

Garance, your evening plan sound great! I wish there was dancing at the place that we are going to :(. Dance for me tonight :)

Happy New Year everyone!!

Josie

Good evening ladies!

No workout this morning. I knew Cathe's live workout was going to be Rock'm Sock'm so I wanted to do this tonight. I loved it! So much fun. I used my heavy bag for the most part then when she started with legs and cardio I took the gloves off and used 1lb hand weights.

Deb...belly dancers sounds like an interesting night! I will admit I do struggle with the last couple of bear claws. I may use my Ipad and edit the download and take a few out! Lol!

Valerie...you crack me up...you go for a 90 minute mountian bike ride then the next day almost 5 hours of snowshoeing and you feel like a slouch??? You are one tough lady! That is certainly a crappy way to end the day with the blown tire. Wow a drill bit. That is crazy.

Lynda...have fun tonight. My DH is not a dancer. I so wish he was but he has other fun qualities! Can't remember the last time we stayed up for midnight. We are having some champagne and a few snacks and will call it a night. Never saw the Gigi movie. Have no clue so will need to look this one up.

Josie...so glad your ankle is better! Great about the early classes. I want to see the Star Wars movie but no idea when. Have fun tonight!

Hi to Judy!

Ha ha Lori.... I'm built for "endurance" rather than speed. I did my therapy exercises, stretching, and foam rolling and that was all today, so really a rest day. tomorrow we will see. might go for a early am walk depending on whether we get a decent nights sleep.

today was lunch with cousin, and shopping. they really days like this. it drives me ( us) crazy. this is the cousin I tried to show
cathe workouts to... they try to do what we like sometimes so we tried to reciprocate. I can't explain but I don't have the 'wander and shop" gene. I have a list, get what's on the list, and go home. I can't wander looking at "stuff" for hours. at least not happily.

we were really annoyed with the tire business. total surprise, and even the tire guy said he could not see the problem but he heard something rattling around inside the tire. we'd had a nice day and this was inconvenient but we could have done without it.

No, Lynda, dance the night away for us too. I can't dance a step and neither can DH. Trigger and Mrs. Trigger..... a pair of lead footed oxen.

I feel like I don't "get" bear crawls. right now my knee is not going there so I modify a little.
we may eventually see the star wars thing, but I had enough crowds for the year TODAY. not sitting in a theater with hundreds of others!

Judy, check in and let us know chino is doing OK. i

Hi Everyone,

Chino is doing much better. The vet had us give him 1/2 a claritin on Tuesday. By Tuesday night he was much better and yesterday he was back to normal. I was worried but I guess he just had a mild cold or an allergic reaction of some kind. I'm giving him 1/2 claritin a day for a few more days then will stop and see if the sneezing comes back.

My SIL and BIL were in town yesterday for a quick visit so I didn't get any workouts in. Tonight I did KCM Muscle Definition.

Deb-Indian food sounds great! DH and I need to find a good Indian restaurant. Hope you had a great New Years Eve!

Josie-I'm glad your ankle is better! Hope you had a fun New Years Eve with your DH!

Valerie-DH and I don't dance either. Great job with all your biking! That is awesome!

Hi to Lori & Lynda!

Happy New Year everyone!

Judy

Happy New Year!

The food was good and the belly dancers were fun to watch. We didn't stay too long, home by 7:30. We had a little "incident" and almost did not go. John was playing fetch in the yard with Keegan. Kylee was doing her usual running around with a ball in her mouth. When John went to put the 2 balls away, Keegan jumped up to get Kylee's, and she went after him with a vengeance. She nipped the tip of his ear, it split and bled like crazy. I( called our vet but of course at that time they had all gone. I called my friend (who had been a breeder etc for over 50 years) and she gave me some suggestions. Once we got it to stop bleeding, John used some dental stuff with a light to keep it together along with anti-biotic ointment. It looks better, but we will need to see. Dogs! I guess we no longer play ball with them together.

Lynda, how was the dancing? I didn't actually see it, but I would guess the shows would be filled last night for The Force Awakens. They are still doing advanced ticket sales here or you can't get it. Lots of people here like to be at a movie at midnight, and I would think this would be a fun one for that. I remember the movie Gigi but not what it was about. Maybe that is where they got the idea for Pretty Woman?

Valerie, glad PT is going well. You a slouch??? LOL...after those rides/hikes etc? :). I feel like you do about shopping, give me the list and I get what I need. I do however, once in a while like to browse around, but I have to be alone, not with anyone...I know, that's weird.

Josie, good news on your ankle....yes, the workouts are great, so many choices!

Lori, great idea to edit those darn Bear Claws right out of the workout! Not just a few, all of them...LOL :).

Judy, good that Chino is ok. It does sound like an allergic reaction to something.

We are going to my brother's for dinner later,

Have a great New Year's Day!

Hi everyone--

This morning I did the ICE Metabolic workout (47:53). Perfect way to start the New Year.

Thanks Deb for posting a couple pics of me in my new office. It's not really done, but DH put a board over two of the credenzas and built a last to hold up that side of my desk, so I can use it. I still have to send back another piece that if I used it, my Thunderbolt would have me craning up my neck--very bad ergonomically. I must say, though, the customer service for Ballard has been very good. My Manhattan glass is one of two my sons gave me for Christmas, hence the toast to them. They are really pretty, blue, and embossed design, handcrafted. Gigi stars Leslie Caron, Louis Jourdan, Maurice Chevalier (a leering roue), and Hermione Gingold. It's a musical. One of the songs is "Thank heaven for little girls," which sounds lovely, but in context makes me think of pedophilia now. Kylee has quite a temper! One of DH's customers has a mutt named Ozzie that likes to play with Max when they come up to the farm for meat, and Max stole one of Ozzie's squeaky toys. Every time DH retrieves it and puts it in his ATV to give back, Max sneaks in and gets it again. Naughty boy, but Ozzie really didn't seem to care. Dogs!

DH and I did the tasting menu at Mezze's and it was soooo good! Seven little courses and I had no problem eating every bit. Dancing for about an hour after at a friend's house. Some disco, some rock, some motown. Fun!

Funny--around here, movie theaters are seldom full, but I remember when we were in NYC standing in line for new films.

Valerie, I agree with everyone--you are no slouch! Sounds like you have some options for your knee. If you get a brace, would you just use it for exercise? I enjoy shopping sometimes. I had fun at Thanksgiving with my sons' women friends.

Lori, I think Rock'm Sock'm is pretty challenging even bare-handed, but maybe I will try my one-pound gloves.

Judy, that is great news about Chino. I like RS a lot as well.

Hi to Josie!

Happy New Year everyone!.

Never saw GIGI, but that is creepy. I think most people would think 'pedophile" these days. strange how some things are so much more relaxed these days, but others are more stringent. I do remember Leslie caron.
DH added up mileage on our road bikes and it was 1800-1900 this year with about 300 on the mt bikes. an estimate since we lost mileage with batteries dying and not always having a working odometer, especially on the mt bikes. still, fun to have an approximate number. .

I think the idea is to get me using my right knee normally again, using tape, brace, and whatever exercises don't make it hurt. We will talk about a brace next appt. I'm bringing in what I have at home already but I doubt any will do what's needed. I've been adjusting my movements for years apparently, so it doesn't hurt, and it gradually pulled the knee cap out of alignment. it seems therapy is tailored "to the person" as there are many different causes for the problem. I'm sure not everyone responds the same way either. "patellar mal tracking". Not everyone has machines & exercise gear at home like I do, so I feel fortunate for that. I know he refers to me as "fit" to the other trainers there. He knows I'll do as instructed. I feel SO MUCH better about this therapist than I did with the people I used for my shoulder. Much better fit.

Too funny Deb, Kylee taking a piece of keegan. Hope it doesn't get infected... an ear flap is easily accessible and not hard to keep an eye on. I have more experience with cat bites, no matter what gets bitten.... person or other cat or dog almost all will get an abscess. one kitty of ours had an ear abscess on the edge of the ear, and all we did was hot soaks and antibiotic cream.
Judy great news things are settling down. I always worry about boarding as infections probably spread easily with lots of different kitties going in and out.

Today I'm doing an upper body workout and core, plus my therapy. upper body has been neglected with the knee focus.
Lynda your office looks lovely. Wish mine resembled that....

Good afternoon ladies...

I have not worked out but plan to do the Metabolic one today and looking forward to it. I have not done this one or the Bootcamp one yet. Surprisingly, I actually have a little bit of doms in my core from the Live kickboxing I did yesterday. While doing this one I felt my core working really hard which is great.

Deb...oh poor Keegan. Bad month for doggie ears! Hope it heals quickly with no issues. Incident or not my DH very rarely stay out late. Big night out and we are always home so early. We went to bed last night at 10pm. Too tired to try and stay up longer. I'll keep the first 4 bear claws but no more.

Valerie...I love to shop! DH never wants to so I get it all out with my son's GF. Makes sense to start using you knee again like you normally would. Will you be able to bike with the brace?

Lynda...your cabinetry looks amazing. I love your glass and noticed it right away. Good for you going out sleeveless and showing off your amazing arms!

Judy...great to hear Chino is better. Nice that your BIL and SIL came by for a visit. I remembered you were having company. Being with family sometimes is more important than working out.

Hi to Josie!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast. I like this one a lot. I did do a timesaver premix, one with the regular workout, but she cuts out a few blasts at the end. We had a nice dinner at my brother's yesterday, a little crazy with 4 boys under 10 years old, but fun. So sad about Natalie Cole. :(.

Lynda, no problem on the posting of pictures. It's pretty simple since Cathe site was changed. .I wish they would not show as thumbnails though...I should have put them in Picturetrail, then posted here. Will do that next time. Wow, Leslie Caron....a blast from the past. Is she still alive? Yes, Kylee has a temper at times, as we say, "they don't call them bitches for nothing"... She is way more intense than Keegan. The females usually are. That tasting menu sounds great.

Valerie, that mileage is pretty impressive! It is so important to have a PT person that you feel is competent and that you feel comfortable with.

Lori, what did you think about the Metabolic workout? I know, isn't it strange about the dog's ears? How is Chester doing?

Hi to Josie & Judy,

A rest day today, tomorrow I will start the ICE rotation level one, and I think I am going to rotate the weeks with a week of Muscle Melt Down/Blasts to do a one-body part per day week in between the regular weeks. I will have to put a leg workout in there somewhere, as she didn't include legs in the Meltdowns for some reason. We'll see if I can actually do it...:)

Take care,

I did about an hour yesterday of therapy exercises after a 10 min warm up on the elliptical. stuck in a core workout, a few pushups, a few curls. didn't do a real upper body workout. did a lot of step ups, hip lifts, hydrants, pizza presses, side lunges, and fire walkers. I managed to get myself a little sore.
we intended to snowshoe today and did the driving but found wildly varied conditions. first place too much snow, couldn't get near where we wanted. not going to walk miles up a rutted snow covered road to get to a place that might not be any better. next places.... no snow, and not that far apart. plus one place was owned by another timber company and was now signed "no trespassing". so a lot of driving for nothing. will do a regular indoor workout. too icy out there for mt biking. weather will change by later tomorrow.
Deb, if I get a brace I will use it when I will benefit. right now I would only use it for steep hiking. relatively flat walking doesn't trigger the problem. and maybe for workouts if my knee was hurting.
I am so jealous of all you doing the new workouts and I'm just looking at the package.

sounds like all pets are doing well again.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a Mindy Milrea spinning workout. I traded a few workout dvds with a facebook friend and this is one that she sent me. It's 3- 20 minute workouts on 1 dvd. I did a 20 minute tabata workout. It's nothing like Cathe or Spinervals. There isn't a class, just Mindy on a spin bike. I wasn't sure I would like it, but I did. She is a good instructor and is very professional and pleasant. After that I did a KCM core workout. Tonight DH and I went to the gym and I did a back & tricep workout. It's nice to start getting back to normal after the holidays. I love seeing family and travelling but it's been a little hectic and I have missed my usual routine.

Lynda-your office is very nice!

Valerie-that is great annual mileage! It's great that you have a good PT now.

Lori-I used to try to fit my workouts in no matter what but as I've gotten older I realize that family time is more important. I just try to workout a little more before and after and use those family days as rest from training.

Deb-that is too bad about Keegan :( Hope it heals quickly.
I really like your idea of rotating weeks of muscle meltdowns & blasts with the ICE rotation. I might try that approach too.
