Cathlete
Good morning,

Today I did 4DS Chest, shoulders & triceps. I also made 2 more pounds of the pecans for gifts. Probably will need to make more. DH needs to make more turtles to give to his hair person when he gets a hair cut tomorrow.

I have lots of errands to do today, drugstore, Office Depot, Dollar Tree. No real Christmas shopping, just the stuff like gift bags etc.

Garance, I looked at those clips of the HIIT and was glad I didn't order it either. I did order the Travel Fit one and asked them about the band that they say they will have that goes with it. No answer yet. I don;t know why we can;t use the green band we already have from past workouts. Always something new to buy. Yes we are going to do the bathroom. We got the estimate from the contractor, I have some questions about some things he left off, then we just need to set a date. I am concerned about not having a shower for 2 WEEKS!! What to people do?

I started tracking my food again in Fitday.com. It kind of keeps me on track, ( no pun intended) because it is a pain to track things so I decide not to eat them. It works!

Hi to Joan, Cathy, Valerie and Josie ( who is on vacation! yay!)

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did disk 19 (69 min.) for chest, shoulders, triceps. The double wave thing really got me on shoulders!

Deb, that's kind of roughin' it for 2 weeks, no shower. We have two bathrooms, so it was not a problem when we remodeled each of them. Yeeees, she said, groaning, there's probably something special about the new band so I will have to buy it to make sure I am getting the ultimate benefit from the workout. I'm not going to be happy if the postage costs as much as the band, though.

We really escaped a big bullet here in western Massachusetts. Did not get one snowflake, but to the east of us, Boston looks like it's coming down.

So what Christmas movie releases does everyone want to see? I want to see the Sherlock Holmes flick, and probably Avatar, but later, when things slow down.

Monday Workday Blues

Good Morning!

Back to work this morning...ugh. Today I did a Cardio Coach on the treadmill, 39 minutes, 285 calories. I really like this particular one. Lots of sprints and hill climbs, without all the visual stuff.

Garance, I really like those double wave things that Cathe does in Meso 2. I will probably buy the new band too. I know they were busy last week and through the weekend packing up the Shock Cardio workouts, but you would think someone would monitor the site and answer questions. As for the bugs in the Workout Manager, no one has looked at those questions for months. Joan and I have had one each over there that just were ignored. We did not get one flake of snow either....Yeah!

It would be a Christmas miracle if I got DH to go to a movie...

Have a good day!

Won't be working out til later today. got my annual blood draw for labs this morning along with the protime. hopefully only another 10 days and off meds! Anyway, Im due for STS #4 and I want to wait at least a few hours before lifting heavy weights. I repeated STS #3 yesterday afternoon. we went for a walk in a nearby park in the morning. a little uphill and downhill but nothing real strenuous. Saturday we did a landscaping project... bought some plants and dug holes etc to plant them. Turned out very nice. best time of year to plant but most nurseries don't have much stock since few people get enthused about gardening until mar/april.

We're done shopping.. had some big major expenses this year so decided to keep holiday spending very low key.

yesterday was our 31st anniversary! what better way to celebrate than with a nice workout! I made a favorite pasta dinner with garlic bread and pumpkin pie.

DH did STS #1 this morning. I don't remember if I mentioned but he's had trouble with running on the treadmill and his hip. Not clear what the issue is but he's looking for alternative cardio until it's better. I've been promoting Drillmax, Bootcamp, and KPC. I like them, they're not step... he's even less coordinated than me on step. Any suggestions? Cathe or other. I know physique 57 is not for him.

Deb.. no shower for 2 weeks is a PITA ..we've done that camping many times and we'd get much dirtier than normal but then standards are lower too. If your kitchen sink has a pull out faucet it's easy to wash hair. sponge bath for the rest. so often projects take longer than planned so allow for that.

Garance, I was up at disk 19 before my health incident last summer.. I'm hoping to be at that point again by sometime in Feb. I liked STS more and more as I went thru it. Dh has done only a little and immediately liked it because there are few repeats of the same move.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Barre (55 min.). Relentless repetitions!

DH was in 7th heaven last night watching his football (Patriots) that he DVRed on our new 52 inch screen. In fact, he is so enthused, he wants to buy another one for me, so I can watch something once in awhile that is not football. That would make three flat screen TVs--my 36" for workouts, a 52" for the "great room," and a 46" one for our downstairs suite of bedroom, sitting room.

Deb, I have learned that if DH does not want to go to the movies, I just go by myself. Too many times I have missed a recent movie I want to see because he would say "later." I can usually get one of my widowed friends to go with me.

Valerie, on the 4ds, there is some great weight work, and the kickbox and bootcamp are also step-free. Congrats on 31! Next year it will be 30 for us.

Hi to anyone else who shows up!

Hi ladies,

Over the last two days I printed and stapled together the 400 tax client organizers I will mail in January. Now to print mailing labels and stuff envelopes. Today was one of my annual year end trips to Office Depot to get some of the supplies I will need for "tax season" I spent over $300 and still need to get 10 printer toners and at least 10 boxes of printer paper.

Today's radiation trip included a doctor's visit. She said that they have increased the amount of radiation since dm was having fewer treatments (2 less) I would think this would make burn worse. She did give us a prescription for a burn healing cream ($60) I hope it is covered by RX ins. They had to order it at pharmacy and it will be in tomorrow.

Joan

Tuesday

Good morning,

No workout today, lots of work stress so I tossed and turned thinking about things. I woke up at 4:30, but did not have the energy to do anything.

Valerie, I can't believe you are planting this time of year. The ground is frozen here and we are lucky to see 20 degrees. I also like the weight work in 4DS. As Garance mentions, the kickbox is pretty good, and only about 30 minutes. Not sure if your DH likes kickbox or not.

Garance, so your DH's Patriots beat our Bills! I never watch the games, but happened to see the score. I don't think I have ever gone to a movie alone. Strange huh? I guess there was never anything I wanted to see that badly.

Joan, it seems like you just finished doing taxes! Wow how the time flies. Sorry to hear about the treatments for your DM. I hope that cream is covered by your insurance. I started tracking in FitDay.com and it seems to be working for me. With all the garbage going on at work, I only managed to eat 885 calories yesterday, which I know is bad. I try to stay around 1400-1500. How is your food tracking going? I bet they love to see you at Office Depot. Those printer cartridges are way expensive. I bought a pack the other day and it was over $70. Funny when you can get some printers for $60.

Take care ladies!

Good morning,

Just about time to leave for radiation.

Deb my printer cartridge costs about $100 each and last a week during heavy printing and I use about 5000 sheets of paper a week. I know if I can get a little prepared in advance I always feel so much better. I just feel like there is too much to do to stop and exercise. I haven't been recording my food for the last week and a half- you can really tell it.

Garance I am a big Sherlock Holmes fan but haven't been to a movie in 40 years. They eventually get to cable.

We haven't been to any of the recent Ram's games and have given up on them. I hope they keep losing now so we can get the first round pick.

Valerie Happy anniversary. I have been married 38 years.

Joan

Hi Deb, Joan, Valerie and anyone else who shows up--

This morning I did P-57 (30 min.) with 2 fast miles with Leslie (30 min.).

It's very cold and blustery here, but the sun is out, which makes everything easier to bear.

When I was in graduate school at the University of Chicago, I got into the habit of going to films by myself in the last year, while writing my dissertation. Write in the morning, research and reading in the afternoon, a film showing at night. Chicago had two film societies, and I felt like a had a real film education by the time I finished my Ph.D. A lot of them were old films or foreign films. Anyway, since I teach film, I feel like I have to keep up with new releases. Some I can wait for cable, but Avatar is in 3-D and Cameron is using all kinds of new technology for his aliens and avatars, so I need to see it on a big screen. And I adore Robert Downey Jr. He was absolutely hilarious in Tropic Thunder--which I waited for on Netflix.

Ditto Deb on the taxes. It seems like you just finished, Joan. The radiation treatments sound really uncomfortable for your mom. Yes, I hope that burn cream is covered by insurance. Too bad the doctor didn't have some to give you immediately. Your vacation is only a week away. I bet you are really looking forward to the break.

Sorry about the stress at work, Deb. Have you received your Travel DVD yet? I cannot remember if I said mail (must have!), but I haven't received mine yet. I was sort of hoping they would show up today, and I could do a Step cardio tomorrow. Sigh!

It's the best time of the year to plant trees and bushes here. they get established while the soil is wet. planting in spring guarantees you will be watering all summer. Our usual winter weather is 40 and drizzling although there is variation. we were below 32 for almost a week which was unusual for here. the dirt rarely freezes deeper than maybe an inch.
Changed my mind and did KPC yesterday. Haven't done that since last spring and I'm gimpy today. one workout does not prepare you for another. today will do weights, #4. I hadn't realized cathe had so much new stuff out. the travel band workout is a great idea. even when we stay in motels with exercise facilities, usually the stuff doesn't work at all or is cheesy quality. you can complain but usually leave soon after so I don't think they bother fixing anything.

We don't go to movies much either. we use Netflix. I never understand movie dialogue especially when it's so loud in theaters. I prefer subtitles and less volume.

I was going to buy toner for our copier, it was $130. they don't even make plain copy machines anymore and this one is only a couple years old. I coud buy a new multi use machine for less than the cost of the toner. sometimes things don't make any sense at all.

hey all, sorry to be absent. busy, as ya'll are, i'm sure. i am doing CTX this week. bought the dvd from a fellow catheite. did 10-10-10 today, i really like that one. great workout. yesterday was all-step, i think, and tomorrow is probably power circuit. looks really hard.

other than that, just trying to get ready for Christmas.

Hump day

Good morning,

I worked until 7:00 last night and will be leaving to go in a few minutes. Things are really hopping right now at work, so I do not have time to even read what happened here yesterday....hope all are having easy holiday days,

later.....

Hi Deb, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie with Petra Kolber (62 min.).

My two Shock cardios came today. Maybe I will do one of the step routines on Christmas morning. Depends how late we stay up on Christmas Eve. We are going out to dinner with another couple to celebrate. DS will show up at some time, and I have lasagna all ready for him.

Sorry work is so hectic for you Deb. I noticed your new avatar. Another Keegan photo? Looks mischievous.

Cathy, CTX series is excellent. I did it a lot and passed on the videos to my sil. Maybe I will buy it in DVD and make use of all the options that provides.

Hi to Joan and Valerie!

yeah, i love CTX. but, man, it is hard on my feet. i did power circuit today and that hi impact hurts. i had to do some low. they are surprisingly hard for the length. i just hope i can keep doing cathe. my feet hurt all the time.

Christmas Eve

Good Morning,

Work has been very busy, a big project that is not going to be done until 12/29 or 12/30. It has us all working 10 -12 hour days so I am very tired. We will be going to my brother's tonight to celebrate Chrismas Eve and to my cousin's for dinner tomorrow. DH will make chili con queso with tiny meatballs to dip for tonight and he will make a loaf of bread to take to dinner tomorrow. Glad he likes to cook.

Garance, I received my Travel Fit workout yesterday too. I wish I had time to try it out, but too tired right now. Maybe next week when all this hustle and bustle is over with. The new avatar picture is actually Kelsey.

Cathy, I had CTX and sold it on Ebay. I didn;t like any of the cardio on it. What happened with your feet?

Hi to Joan and Valerie, and Josie ( who I know will not be here),

Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas eve day,

Deb I hope you have the day off. I'm going to not worry about what I can do for wo until I get back from vacation. I don't think we need the additional stress. We can get back at it in January.

I got shock cardio after 7:00 last night. I only watched the cardio core and I was tired. About half the moves will have to be eliminated. I don't think I can modify them as much as just repeat the other half of the moves or use some Leslie moves.

I really don't like the music in that one. I like songs I can sing along with and get pumped up not something that is just there to keep the beat.

Garance I've said it before but I wish I could have your wo commitment. Is the book done? You haven't said much about it lately.

Cathy I would really rest those feet of yours. I think bruises in the feet take a while to heal.

Josie I know you are having a great vacation.

Valerie I think you are right about hotel gyms. I plan on just trying to get a lot of walking in this vacation. Not ready to think about the travel dvd.

Joan

Did STS #4 on tuesday. wow, that's a lot of pushups. I did more than before on my toes but not all. I have an especially hard time with the staggered ones.

Wed we went xc skiing. a lot of driving for little payoff. we are short on snow in the mountains. started out strong in November but not much now. lots of rain and not much snow. there was some good quality new snow but we had to drive way up to get to it, and by that time we were near the end of the road. we skied about an hour and even walked back partway since we were going thru to gravel. marginal for dec.

Cathy, I've been using superfeet shoe inserts for years. I have feet that would like to tend toward bunions but otherwise normal... medium/high arch. a podiatrist a long time ago recommended superfeet inserts.

Pull out liners in new shoes/boots are minimal ... maybe a money saving thing, or maybe because so many people buy custom ones. there are different colors for different levels of support. I use blue superfeet. I have several pairs and move them around among my assorted boots and shoes. I don't know the criteria for what kind of foot gets what color but I use them in my running shoes, hikign boots, ski boots etc. they are about $25.
I keep general track of the 'mileage" on my shoes. shoes can still look good but lose their support causing sore feet. I'm easy on shoes and could wear them for decades before they look worn, so after certain mileage I retire them. Just some general thoughts on foot soreness. sore feet can make you not feel like doing anything!

I don't think I'll be around for a few days... Hope everyone gets to relax and enjoy the holiday.

Hi Deb, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 21 from STS for back and bis (60 min.). Phew those double wave loads lead to instant soreness, aches and pains for me.

Deb, this morning I made an apple tart from the Barefoot Contessa for tomorrow's dessert with ice cream. I had to make my own pastry because I bought phyllo sheets instead of puff pastry, so that was the first frustration. Then I decided to bake it on a sheet without rims (very stupid!), and when it had baked for 20 minutes, I suddenly smelled something burning, because of course the butter and sugar were melting and overflowing the sides. I somehow managed to pull the whole shebang on to another rimmed baking sheet (it was on parchment paper) and finished the darn baking. It looks pretty good, though, especially after the glaze of rum and melted apricot jelly is sloshed on. We are going out tonight and tomorrow it's ham with a honey and Marsala glaze, macaroni and cheese, a big salad, carrots, and the tart and ice cream for dessert. Some champagne too.

Joan, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am really glad I decided to pass on this series as a whole. Way too much jumping for me, and frankly, a lot of this just looks kind of slapped together in terms of one athletic move after another. I also resent the Eggland's Best crap that came with my DVDs. I have not previewed my step DVDs and was somewhat surprised that they are not on the same DVD, except that she is selling each of these short routines at Collagevideo for $24.95. Maybe Cathe has decided at her age to make as much money as she can because she is at the height of her athletic ability and popularity. THE BOOK: I have about 250 pages, but I need a good intro to pull everything together, and I think I will need the summer to revise. I want a couple of my colleagues to read the whole thing and give me advice before I send it off.

Cathy, that's great advice from Valerie on your feet. I buy new shoes every September, usually from Ryka. I don't have trouble with my feet, but with my knees.

I will probably not post until Sunday. I think I will take two days off this week....we'll see how I feel on Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas,

I just finished baking. We spent 2 1/2 hours this afternoon putting together a kitchen for Elliot. The average time per instructions was 4 hours.

I better get to bed. Turkey needs to get in oven by 6am. It's almost 25lbs.

Joan
