Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/2

Good evening ladies...

Sounds like you are doing well garance. Good to hear!

I have not seen Skyfall but hope to this weekend. My son loves the James Bond movies and this year for xmas he asked for the complete set on Blue Ray....cost is over $300! Out of the blue on the Saturday after thanksgiving I was on Amazon and I saw that their gold box special was the complete set (all 22 movies) on blue ray in a collectors case for $99.00!!!! Well needless to say I bought them. Love when I get deals like this!!

My workout this morning was HIIT Pyramid followed by the first two segments of Cross Fire.

Thanks ladies for keeping me motivated!

Very tired, did not get up to work out, I shut off the alarm and went back to sleep. Stomach monkeys are killing me.

Garance, glad all is going well. When can you do something besides the "cackle & shriek" workout? LOL Can't wait for Downton Abbey...I went to PBS and read the stuff there about how well it did in England...etc etc. I guess it has been renewed for a 4th season.

Josie, I hope the new director can come in and make a difference. I have to say, in my company, women do very well, used to be an old boys network but in the 80's that all changed.

Lori, nice purchase! I know how you feel when you get a deal like that.

Valerie, I have one set of weights with those screw off holders, that is one I set at 20 and leave it at that. If I want it heavier, I just slip the plates on the ends without taking off the screw things. The bar is long enough to hold then without an issue.

What's everyone doing this weekend?

Went to yoga yesterday and worked hard. she is such a great instructor. comes up with new ways to do things where she changes the focus, and suddenly you realize you are in the pose that you never could do before, just because it was approached from another way. Stealth yoga? anyway, left it at that for exercise yesterday. my legs were tired and needed a day off.

Lynda, I love Breaking Bad. I've really love TV series that go on for multiple seasons. so much opportunity to develop characters and complex stories... better than movies. watching The Good Wife right now. If you haven't seen it... you would like it but you'd have to start at the beginning. Excellent series, maybe my favorite. With netflix we are always behind a season. we can watch a whole season in a couple weeks, depending on how fast we go thru the episodes. and no commercials! it works for us. we can watch a couple episodes a week and the story line is easier to follow without gaps or missing epsodes like always happened when we tried to watch on the TV schedule. last one we watched like that was Desperate Housewives. we gave up because we'd miss episodes and never could keep up with whatever was going on.

Deb, tomorrow is another day. get up and do something tomorrow.
I used to work for a "good old boys" company. it started to change in the 80's but not enough and inconsistently. good places and bad places. in the early 90's the whole thing got restructured, mass layoffs, everyone lost their jobs. it was a dismal time. the marketplace changed abruptly. it was before the Internet as we know it now and everyone was blindsided by management decisions.

My bars would be unusable without the screw on clamps..I'd have plates flying off all over the place!
Lori, the Bond series sounds like a great deal. bet your son loves it, and quite a good buy.

No big plans for the weekend. maybe xc ski if the weather lightens up a bit. a lot of snow in the mountains the last couple days. needs to be less stormy before we'd venture out.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did the High Reps upper body premix (39 min.).

Deb, I will be back doing my regular workouts next week. I had my ultrasound yesterday, and everything looks good. No clots, which is what they check for. We have a party tonight and tomorrow we are off to find a tree to chop (saw) down at one of the local tree farms. We might go see Skyfall.

Valerie, I love the Good Wife. I record it and watch it later so I can fast forward through the commercials. I am really enjoying Breaking Bad--on season 2 now. I can't imagine where this series is going, but so far it's been a wild ride.

Lori, that's a great deal! Which Bond is your son's favorite?

Josie, when I first started at Williams, it had just gone co-ed, so almost all of my colleagues were male because they didn't start hiring women to teach until they had some women students (Does that make sense?! No). It was really about as 'old boy' a place as you can imagine. Your new director will have to navigate difficult waters if it's anything like what I went through those first years.

Hi all!

My son doesn't really have a favorite Bond..he likes them all!

My barbell is the same with the screw on brackets. I end up doing the same thing. I leave a set weight on it then just add the plates on the outside of the screw clamps. Seems to work fine. It was a really inexpensive barbell set that I bought from walmart years ago. Never did I expect to be still using it years later.

This morning I did p90x chest and back. I have not done this workout in a while and it was a nice change. This work out is pretty much all pushups and pull ups. I use bands for the pullups and do pushup on my knees. Still a great work out with my modifications. At my age I have no desire to be doing pullups!!!

Have a great night!

Morning all,

Tried to sleep in today, dogs got up at 4:15 with DH, I stayed until 7:30. Needed it badly.

Valerie, it's so nice when you have a teacher/instructor that always keeps things fresh, that is how our obedience trainer is...every class has some new twist to things to keep us and the dogs from getting bored.

Garance, glad all is going smoothly with the procedure. You will have gorgeous legs for those mini-skirts you wear in the summer...LOL...or at least the shorts...

Lori, thanks for reminding me about p90X chest & back...that was a good workout, probably the best part of p90X. I had to modify those too, and have those assisted pull up straps, but it was a good workout. . Maybe put it on the future list.

Agility class today, and lots of HouseMax. That is the plan anyway. Maybe a nap this afternoon! We may go see Lincoln, not sure yet though.

Also need to get the Holiday cards out this weekend...lists, lists, lists. I feel like my head is full of lists of things "to do"...

have a great day,

weird that both of you have bars that let you use plates without securing them. mine would wobble out of place immediately, unbalanced at best. Mine are easy curl bars with the angled sections. keeps the plates out close to the ends. at any rate, they work well enough that I don't want to dump them for a new system just to make weight changes a little faster.

Lynda so glad to hear this has gone so well. how much have you limited your workouts? I didn't realize you were doing anything differently. what are the chances a vein might re develop? do they have a followup program of some sort?

Did S&G again yesterday but just the first cardio section. too many errands to do and got home too late to finish.

Deb, I alway enjoy yoga but this lady is special. never the same. she explains, demonstrates, helps get body parts in the right place, always points out when someone gets the pose right. she lives and breathes yoga. she has a group of us regulars who will eagerly TRY new things. no whining, no one feels "stupid" , we jump in and give it a whirl. and we laugh a lot. this is not a seriously heavy mystical experience that I have heard about. we are focused but in a good lighthearted way. Never dull.

we got a load of snow the last few days in the mountains so will give it a try on sunday and monday. ski or snowshoe. still too stormy today.
