Good Morning all,

We did get into the vet yesterday, they took blood for a thyroid panel to be done. Kelsey has been on thyroid meds for about 12 years. She is supposed to get it done every year, and I could swear we did it recently, but they said it was last done in June of 2009. They think her meds need to be reduced, it is probably why she is so hungry all the time, and cannot gain weight. She is actually "hypo", but because of med level, she has gone into "hyper". Can also cause the diarrhea issue. Or it can be a combination of thyroid and the new kidney food. We'll know hopefully tomorow when the bloodwork comes back. Anyway..

Just relaxing with
sFun_coffeeaddict.gif
, spelt is being made, my favorite time of day. At least no dog woke us up last night. Keegan got up around 5:00, John took him down and Kelsey around 5:30. That was ok with me.

Today I plan to do the first workout of week 6 C25K, followed by STS total body legs only pre-mix. Then lots of HOuseMax...

Joan, I think you are a great MIL and your DIL doesn't know how lucky she has it! Maybe now she will.

Valerie, I could work out at 3:00 if I was home all day, I would probably do better being up and moving around for a while, but if I delay until after work, I talk myself right out of it! I think you will like STS Total Body, and will have to let us know what you think of the others in this series. I am on the fence about downloading High Reps. It will be my first downloaded workout, then trying to get the right cords or whatever to play it on my ancient TV in the basement.

Garance, yes we send cards, mostly to out of town friends and relatives. I only send a couple to friends here.

Can I ask my fellow 50, 60 and beyonds what moisturizer do you use during the day under makeup that you absolutely would not give up? One that does not affect how your makeup goes on? Best if it has some SPF in it too! I love my Murad but the texture does not work well with foundations or even tinted moisturizers.

What is on everyone's schedule today?

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Rockin' Models (72 min.). Another day of jello legs.

I did my grocery shopping for the week and went shopping for DH. bought him a Toro snow shovel, which is like a mini-snowblower. Thought it might save him a bit of work when (and if?) we get a storm. Now I have to figure out a way to hide it from him! This is not going to be easy. I think I might smuggle it in and quickly wrap it, if I can find enough paper! Or, alternate plan, stash it under a blanket and tell him not to look. Also wanted to get him a Irwin universal handsaw, because our new furnace takes smaller wood and he has been at some pains cutting down the stash of wood he had cut for our former furnace. Could not find one either at True Value or Sears.

I still have 4 papers to grade. I have one here, one that will probably come in at 5 when I am ready to quit for the day, and 2 coming in tomorrow, so I guess I will try to finish my Christmas cards.

A really nice day here. Sounds like Britain and the rest of Europe are really getting hit--and they don't know how to handle it.

Hi to everyone. Or ho ho ho, as the case may be.

Good morning all,

Is it Monday already? Such a nice 5 days off, I am not looking forward to today at all. I guess the good news is that I only have 3 days, and then I am off for 4 days. One of which is a colonoscopy, so no fun that day, ( or should I say, no fun the night before, ugh~!).

Garance, we have a huge snow blower, is the Toro Snow shovel a small type of one, that you would use for a small job? Sometimes we only need to do the walk from the door to the sidewalk, or make a track for the dogs in the yard, and the big snow blower is too much to take out for just those small areas. I think I will Google it and see how big it is. If you can wrap it, it must be a smaller type.

Countdown to the big day this weekend! Take care and stay warm.

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did KCM's Bootcamp Circuit, double premix (55 min.). I hate the squat thrusts on this one.

Deb, you would probably love the size of this little snowblower. It's perfect for steps, sidewalk, patio, small areas, and it's electric. It's about 120 dollars. Sounds like you enjoyed your time off. I still have 2 papers coming in, and then I will be done! I stashed my Toro under a blanket, and told DH not to look. He won't--he's very good about such things. How is Kelsey--any news? Wish I could help you on the moisturizer. I received a little bottle of "When hope is not enough" from Philosophy, when I put in my order for their Amazing Grace lotion and bodywash, and I like it after my morning shower, but I won't order it because I don't like the smell. We have a big Sears store at our crummy little mall.

How was your party, Joan?

What are you hoping to get for Christmas, ladies?

The weather behaved itself this year for the party. Everyone showed up and we did have a good time. The food was too much as always and still had lots of leftovers after Sunday's family eat what's left party.

Unfortunately the scale is up. Let's hope some is water weight.

Joan

Deb, we all need some Synthroid! weight down after eating," can't gain weight"... yes, a bucket of that medication, please. good luck on the cspy. I need to schedule one soon... ugh. the day before was the worse, the clear liquids day. hated that.

Lynda can you stash the snow blower in a closet or unused room, shut the door and put a bow on the door?

I don't use moisturizer. wash with cetaphil liquid and use estee lauder foundation. foundation has the sunscreen, 8 spf, and a moisturizer as part of it. anything extra makes my skin too slippery. I find washing with the cetaphil does not dry my skin and I really don't need anything. at night I use one drop of Revaleskin coffee berry moisturizer. that's all. I have rosacea and am sensitive to a lot of things so simpler is better.

Joan probably some temporary water weight. get right back on program and walking. it weill probably be gone in a day or two.

I did disk 19 and pushed the weight. yesterday we tried to ski and went for 1.5 hours of very bad snow so bagged it. stuck to our skis right down to bare dirt, making each step about 50 lbs. today we did a 5 or so mile hike. lots of snow and somewhat slippery so no speed record but a decent workout. about 3.5 hours. tomorrow is yoga and then probably disk 21.

howdy ya'll! how is everyone? i know you're busy!! had 2 Christmas parties on friday, didn't eat too terribly much, but i haven not been very good lately. i'll be glad when all the Christmas goodies are GONE!!!

i did complete body sculpting, and jiggle free buns today, tomorrow is a short one and then g/kids on tues, and wed. then, a house full for Christmas Day!!!

Good morning all,

I just finished STS Total Body, upper body pre-mix. The more I do this workout, the more I like it.

Garance, I looked at the snow blower on line, and it has great reviews on Amazon. You can actually order it from them with free shipping! I went over to Make up Alley and ended up getting Clinique Even Better Correcting Moisturizer with SPF from Ebay. We'll see how it works. I really love the Murad, but I think it is messing with my foundation, it is great to use alone. Of course, it has no SPF, so that is not good to do very often.

Valerie, yep, if we could only have what Kelsey has, ( just kidding of course) eat like a trooper but don't gain an ounce. I hope they have the blood work results today. The poor thing has all the symptoms of hyper-thyroid, although she is hypo. They said this is what would happen if her dose is too high. What type of Estee Lauder foundation do you use?

Cathy, you are doing well with the workouts, even while you are so busy! And those GD's sure do keep you moving don't they?

Joan, I agree with all, it is probably water, weigh again after 2 days of good eating and you will most likely be back to where you were before.

I have 1 more day of eating, then tomorrow it is all liquids. ugh...then the horrible prep time tomorrow night...can't wait until it's over. A necessary evil I guess.

Stay warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie (63 min.).

Deb, I noticed in my new Vogue that Simply Ageless Foundation now has a primer moisturizer to go with it. The reviewers on that little snowblower are very good, aren't they? I think it will save DH some work digging out after a storm. Good luck on the colonoscopy! Don't envy you one little bit.

Valerie, I'm really not worried about DH peeking. I will just put it under the tree on Christmas morning with a big bow on it. No use wasting so much wrapping paper.

So how warm is it down in Texas, Cathy. It's cold and windy here, and we may get a bit of snow on Christmas.

4 more days! What does everyone want? (I always ask for jewelry.)

I want some new things to make winter cycling more pleasant. I know pretty much what I'm getting. had to try on the boots. probably a neck gaiter, beanie hat to go under my helmet. possibly a new watch. new zip neck fleece type top for hiking and maybe cycling. after that, I don't know. on some new outdoor pants.

Yesterday was our 32nd anniversary. holy cow. now I feel OLD! DH got me some lovely flowers, and we went hiking in the snow. weather was nice sunday and today but not so hot yesterday.
yes, speaking of hot, how warm is it in Texas cathy? I could use a little sunshine right now though today is shaping up nicer than yesterday. so no excuse not to hit the treadmill.

Deb, I use Estee Lauder Lucidity. I wash my face always with Cetaphil cleanser. It does NOT dry my skin but takes off makeup, even mascara, nicely. Having rosacea, I can't use any kind of scrub, or any product that cause exfoliation, or "faster cell turnover" etc. other things, like alcohol irritate it. my skin is pretty decent though, as long as I don't irritate it with products! less is "more" for me. I use spf 30 sunscreen, estee lauder, if it's necessary . for everyday, I just use the spf 8 foundation, and at night one drop of revaleskin moisturizer. I got it first thru my dermatologist but I found it online cheaper. it doesn't make my skin break out, as revisiting acne is not a favorite thing. My skin used to be drier when I used even gentle soap, and cetaphil balances things out for me. I don't know if there's anything 'magic' about estee lauder but it's easy to find and it seems to work well on my skin. I used clinique before this which was OK too. I'm diligent about using foundation with sunscreen every day. I always say, I won't haul the trash can to the road without my foundation on!

Good morning,

I just finished Day 2 of Week 6 of C25K...whew...those 10 minute runs are tough. Why does the first 5 minute warm up walk go so fast, and the 10 minute runs are like slow motion? Today is my day of clear fluids only, at least coffee is included in there.

Garance, did you go over to Make up Alley to see the reviews on the Simply Ageless primer? I think I will go over after this. I did get the Murad primer, the one with the slight color, it's ok, but no big deal. Definitely not worth the $30+. As for Christmas gifts, I already have my new iPod Touch. DH is like a little kid when he gets a present for me, can't wait for me to have it, so when we went to the Apple store to "just look at them" he just bought it and gave it to me that day. Not sure if he is getting me anything else. Maybe some Pandora charms for my bracelet. You can't have too many of those.

Valerie, Happy Anniversary!! LOL about not taking the trash out without foundation..I went for years without wearing it, but then when you start, you feel naked or something going in public without it. I mostly use Simply Ageless, or tinted moisturizers. I may look into that Cetaphil, I have been using Olay Face Wash, it's ok but not cheap for a drugstore wash, and it is still drying.

I am so looking forward to not going to work for 4 days, even if one of them is taken up by a colonoscopy!

Take care,

I feel TOTALLY naked without foundation. can get by with anything else but not that. I'm a little touchy about not finishing my eyebrows, lost part of one when I was a kid and hit the edge of a swimming pool and it never grew back.

Deb, what prep are they using on you ? It's a tough day. chicken broth saved my life. I added a little fresh ginger to it (strained it out). I hate jello to begin with and its the only time I eat it. I don't know how anyone would ever willingly eat jello again after this. good luck with today, and skip exercise. it makes you too hungry, IMO. Hope your procedure is early am so you can get it done and eat something. and of course, hope it's easy and negative. It's so funny, knowing you can't eat makes you so much hungrier than you would ordinarily be.

did a tough yoga class... I'm enjoying the new class & instructor... and then disk 21. getting to the end of meso 2. if I do legs today, there's just 1 left.

I forgot to stick this in my other post. It's getting to be new years resolution time. I usually make one related to the usual common topics, weight loss, exercise, cleaner eating. I'm going to try to be more specific this year but not sure exactly what it will be. Just wanted to see if anyone else is thinking about this yet....except for Deb, and we know what she's thinking about...

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.). This one is excellent by Tracy Mallett. Not sure I like the other one--Pilates Sculpt.

I still have one student who has not sent me her final paper. Grrrrrr! The college will be closing down later this afternoon, so I won't have a printer here for her paper. I'm really exasperated.

Ahh, yes, the perennial New Year's resolution. Mine will be to stop procrastinating when I have some much-hated task to perform. JUST DO IT! will be my new mantra. I have all kinds of tasks that I need to put on a list and then do something about. I periodically remind myself, and then forget about it.

I don't wear much makeup. Sometimes I just wear the essential-C and a sunscreen, a little bit of liner and eye shadow. No mascara or blush, and a pretty pale lipstick to keep my lips from cracking.

Deb, I really enjoyed lemon Italian ices when I was prepping for my colonoscopy. So much better than jello.

Looks like I may have to head off to England again next fall. A whole new cache of papers at the British Library--mss. of poems about Plath and Hughes's mistress, Assia Wevill. Sigh--not sure I want to go sleepless again for a week.

Hi all,

No workout today, I didn't think it would be good to do after not eating for 24 hours. I didn't do any jello or broth. Just coffee. Great huh? It will all be over around noon and DH and I will go out for a nice lunch. I can't wait.

Valerie, the prep is 64 oz of gatorade with a bottle of that powdered stuff mixed in. ugh. I had a tough time getting it down, actually left about a glass. No New Year's resolutions yet. Maybe lose the last 5 pounds to get to my goal weight.

Garance, when is the absolutely drop dead date/time that students can get their papers to you? I would think they would want to be on their way home by now. What is the reason for the England trip? to review those papers? I know before you were speaking at some function correct?

I will check in later...

Deb, sounds like the Miralax prep. I didn't have trouble getting it down, it just didn't work well enough. don't want TMI here. the older method used stuff called Golytely that was more difficult, and more volume. You may be onto something with just coffee. I think the broth/jello made me hungrier by somehow stimulating the urge to eat.... the urge to eat anything BUT broth & jello. Hope you have a good lunch. I was too ill after to do anything but sleep for several hours but I know that's not the usual outcome. It feels so good to get it over with though.

Lynda, non procrastination could be a resolution for me too. I'm awful sometimes and elave things to the last minute. I kind of rotate between being excessively getting things done immediately, or letting them go until the last minute. a middle ground would be better and easier. hope your student got her paper in, finally.

Did the last leg disk in meso 2. I should have pushed the weight more, not sore at all. I was baking a batch of cookies simultaneously and trying to time the 1 min breaks to shuffle cookie sheets and didn't try increasing weight on most of the steps.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and any later posters--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Deb, hope your colonoscopy went well and you are having, or did have a good lunch. Here is the link for the new material available at the British Library that will be available next year: http://www.roydavids.com/birthday.htm

Roy Davids is not so much a scholar, but a rare book and manuscript dealer who established a relationship with Hughes when Hughes was trying to sell pieces of his work pretty early in his career. He says there is a large number of Sylvia poems, and those first lines look pretty provocative and confessional. Also a confessional autograph. So--I guess I will be off to England again in the fall, probably, after DS's wedding.

My prep last two times for colonoscopy was to take a few pills every few hours and drink a helluva lot of water. I didn't find it difficult at all. The first time was the Golytely, and I could not finish drinking it because it made me vomit, so I had to switch to an enema.

I had broth, lemon ices, ginger ale, apple juice, root beer popsicles. No jello. Don't think I could make it on just coffee, and it would get me too jittery with the caffeine.

Valerie, my student did finally attach her paper to an e-mail. Final exams ended on Monday, and students are all gone by now. The college shuts off the heat starting today, but I have a space heater. All grades must be in by next Monday at the very latest, but I plan to get this last one in today.

Tomorrow night we go out to dinner with another couple and my younger son--an annual event on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day we have standing rib roast, mashed potatoes, mushrooms in a sherry-cream sauce, salad, Ina's lemon honey pound cake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, prosecco with the meal.

What are all of your plans?

Hi again,

well it's done for another 5 years. No polyps this time, which is good.

Valerie, Yes I had the "golightly" stuff before and it was bad...what a joke that name is! Pretty soon you will be able to do the STS Total body and we can compare notes on that one.

Garance, we did go to eat right afterwards, I had an egg and toast, and of course coffee. it tasted wonderful. I am going to ask about that pill prep for the next time. I can drink a half gallon of water, no problem. Your dinner sounds delicious. We go to my brother's house tomorrow night, a big night of appetizers, shrimp, veggies, chili con queso with chorizo meatballs, dips, etc. Then we have Italian sausage, frittatas made with burdock picked in the spring and salads. On Christmas we go to my cousins for a big Italian dinner, baked macaroni, with all the stuff that goes with it, and a ham. I am glad Christmas is on Saturday, so we have Sunday to rest.

oh, the vet called this morning, Kelsey's thyroid panel is normal so he says it is not her meds....then what can it be??I am so mad about this.

Take care, will check in later...

so Golytely is well and widely known... I've tasted it but never as a prep. I used to work in a lab and we would test things sometimes to see what we were giving to patients. It had a slightly slippery fishy?? taste/smell to me and I knew I'd never get a gallon down no matter what. only had one cspy so far and that was gatorade/miralax plus a bottle of mag citrate.

Congrats Deb on getting thru the process. no polyps is great! so are you on a 5 yr rotation or is this good for 10? I'm on 5 yr because of previous inadequate prep so I want to be sure this next one is good. that's what DH wanted after his, eggs and toast. Decaf coffee keeps the jitters down. I got ridiculously hungry though, and wonder if the all day sugar intake makes the hunger worse. it's much more sugar than I would normally eat. Lemon ices sound good as do root beer popsicles. lynda, where do you find lemon ices?

both of you are faring much better food -wise than we will. both menus sound fabulous. we are visiting DH's sister/husband. they are not good cooks. not at all. DH's family is Italian but somehow the cooking gene did not get transmitted. they're making a turkey which is nice because we'll eat a little of that vs ham or beef, but a pan of vegie lasagne would be a lot better. she really doesn't "cook" and never will. they have totally different tastes than we do, often we have pizza, they get what they like, and we do the same. we can't even agree on salad, they only eat iceberg lettuce with french dressing. But they are family, we have a good time and laugh at what each other won't eat and it's fine for a day or two. I also bring food supplies with us so we don't get too hungry.

Deb when they did the thyroid panel did they do a general chemistry panel too? looking for things like glucose level, kidney function? just wondering, I don't have any ideas other than diabetes which could cause excessive drinking and peeing. but that's awfully basic, sure the vet considered that.
