Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/13

Hi Ladies,

It will be Kevin wo today plus 30 minutes of cardio. The show last night was beautiful with Brian's interpretation of his favorite Christmas songs in a jazz mode. You can listen to his music on Pandora.com.

I still have not bought all of my cookie ingredients; I'm starting to feel rushed. I still have so much work before my vacation and I don't know where to start.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did STS disk 18 for back and bis (60 min.).

This is the coldest it has been in a long time--12 degrees. Brrrrr!

Deb, I made turtles this morning too. I wonder if it is the same recipe (a whole lot of butter). Those hamsters look cute, but I haven't the slightest idea what they do. I guess they wouldn't be very popular in Peru where hamsters are apparently a delicacy on the menus of fancy restaurants. You can actually pick a hamster to eat like we can pick a lobster at some restaurants. Makes you want to gag!

Josie, I will have to check out Brian Culbertson. DH and I used to go to a lot of jazz clubs when we lived in NYC. DH is more of a fan than I, though, I must admit. I get bored just sitting and listening to music.

Hi to Joan, Cathy, and Valerie!

DH used to listen to jazz during his lunch hour & he liked brian culbertson. ... not sure I have the name exactly right. I bought him quite a few jazz disks. unfortunately work is more intense and he can't listen anymore, has to work thru lunch and the music interferes.

I looked at the physique 57 ... not sure about that, will look again. I did watch the kelly ripa section. she has fairly amazing control over hip /mid section. I'm sort of the standing joke in my yoga class, I can power thru most things but tip my hips?? not a chance. It's liek they're welded in place. I can't say I've ever seen anyone move their hips quite like that. She looks really fit, just not sure if I'd enjoy that workout.

Yesterday did 25 bike, 35 treadmill and coremax #3.

I'm not a big fan of turtles... don't like caramel and so-so on pecans so pecan pie is not a favorite either.... but I have other "likes" that make up for it! If I don't "really really like" something I just don't eat it. One year I made toffee with almonds and chocolate on top. OMG it was good but I could NOT leave it alone so I didn't repeat the effort. I love pumpkin pie and thankfully it's easy to lighten.

Eat hamsters?? Yikes. Again, not anything I'd seek out.

I cooked a giant sweetmeat squash yesterday. probably weighed at least 25 lbs. You end up with a huge amount of cooked squash that I freeze and use for pie and other things. Takes a long time to cook it a pan full at a time because the squash is 4 inches thick in places.

Josie, one time we went to fresno in the summer ... it was 110 degrees. DH's family has always lived there and are used to it. it was so unbearably hot I couldn't believe it, even early in the morning. since then we only go in fall/winter/spring. January was great!

Garance,

I'm with you on sitting and listening to music, I rather be dancing. Last nights show was not very long, so it was ok. My DH misses all the jazz clubs in NY. He was born and raised there.

Josie

uuuhhhhhh! a hamster!!!!! may as well eat a rat, as far as i'm concerned. yuck! that is just gross.

i wish i didn't like pecans! i LOVE pecan pie, that is why i only make it 2x a year. cuz, i will eat the whole thinig. so, i get a piece for Christmas day and that is it.

ok, let's see, can't remember what i posted last. but, i did imax 3 on tues., push/pull on wed. today, did 4ds kickbox, and 15m of 4ds boot camp. tomorrow is, uh, the other one on the push/pull dvd. i think it is super sets or something like that.

my kiddos are having a ball at disneyworld.

ya know deb, as far as the WW. i also know what and how to eat. but i have been doing so horrible the last few years. just since i have been writing down everything i'm eating is making a big difference. i do watch more carefully. and logging your food is so easy the way you do it on WW. i don't do it online cuz i have dial-up, so i just log in the little books. but, it really has helped me. well, except tonite. LOL! i had a Bible study and there were cookies and stuff. bad girl. 2 cookies and some sour dough bread. yummy!, but w/WW you have like 35 flex points a week on top of your daily points and i haven't used any this week, so not too bad, i guess.

Hi ladies,

I can't even make it two weeks of exercise and posting.

Mil lives 1 1/2 hrs from us and has been in the hospital for the last week. She got a terrible bladder infection. For the first couple of days she had hallucinations. Either from stopping her regular medication or the antibiotics. The doctor thinks she may also have had a stroke this time. She is in a nursing home and seems to get them about once a year.(catheter)

Dm had to stop radiation for today and tomorrow. She has terrible burns under her arm.

I made baklava tonight for Saturday's Christmas party. Tomorrow morning or later today actually I will bake two cheesecakes. Saturday will be dips and main dishes. I think we will have about 24 people this year.

I did get 3 1/2 miles on treadmill Wednesday but don't have much hope of any other exercise until Sunday.

Joan

Friday

Good Morning,

I am going to meet a friend for breakfast, this is the one I stay hours with in the restaurant. We give the waitress a big tip right at the beginning and ask her to keep the coffee coming.

Josie, I hear you on listening to music..it's ok if it is not the dance type, then I want to dance instead. I thought you were on vacation this week, with me...I am back to work next week...:(

Garance, our Turtles don't have any butter, mmm...there are so many recipes out there, but my DH is a purist...only chocolate, pecans and caramel. I keep saying something is missing and he gets mad so I don't say anything, don;t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with them, just something missing....I said maybe salt and he gave me a strange look...
ugh at the hamster eating story.....

Valerei, the P-57 is so different from what we are used to, and not being able to do it like the women on the DVD sometimes get frustrating. I think it is a good leg workout though. The first time I did it I had DOMS for 4 days.

Cathy, good job on the eating. I should start using Fitday.com again.

Joan, sending ((PRAYERS)) and ((HUGS)) your way, you have had so much going on lately. it is amazing that you are still baking and getting ready for company. Hope your MIL is ok and your Mom feels better.

Gotta run, have a good day...

Hi Ladies,

I did not wo yesterday; I had to do some more shopping and will not have a chance to do it this weekend. I will try to start my P-57 while I'm on vacation since I will not be able to go to the gym. My peanut likes to wo with me in the garage, so I will have a willing partner next week.

Deb, my vacation starts next week for 2 weeks. We are planning to go to Laughlin for some gambling after Christmas and then be back in time to celebrate New Year's at the Conga Room. I will be starting the year dancing to Salsa music God willing.

Joan, I will also be praying for you and your family.

Cathy, my DM love pecan pie, but she is a diabetic and needs to stay away from sweets.
She still eats stuff that she is not supposed to and has gained a lot of weight, so I will not be making one for her this year.

Garance, I will take my books with me to Laughlin so that I can catch up on my reading.

Hi Valerie!

Ladies, Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I will not be posting during my vacation, but I will be thinking of all of you.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie again (62 min.). I was planning on Cardio Barre, but the dread factor cancelled my will power. I will have to do that one on Monday--earlier in the week when I am feeling strong.

Deb, my turtles are really bars. You make a flour, brown sugar and butter base, pat it into a 13 by 9 pan, sprinkle a cup of pecan halves over, then make a brown sugar and butter candy syrup on the stove, pour it over the base and bake at 350 for about 20 min. Take it out, pour a cup of chocolate morsels over, swirl a bit and cool. Made my Russian tea cakes this morning. Tomorrow it's Spritz after Housemax and we are getting our 52 inch TV to set up.

Have a great vacation, Josie! Love the idea of salsa dancing for New Year's.

Joan, sorry to hear about both your mom and mother-in-law. You have really had a full plate this past year. Are you still going on vacation after Christmas?

Sounds like WW is really working for you, Cathy. I have never tried it.

Valerie, I cannot even imagine not being able to move my hips. Love to dance and love to shake that booty when I do. There is not too much of that on P-57 so you shouldn't feel disqualified.

Have a great weekend ladies!

Good evening,

It's snowing here. It's only supposed to stick to the grass. It was in 40's earlier today so roads are warm.

Josie have a great vacation, Christmas and New Year.

Garance I will be leaving Dec 29 and back Jan 6. I love Russian tea cakes which is why I don't make them.

Today I made turtle cheesecake and a blueberry cheesecake. I also started a tart made with milky way candy bars. The base is the dark choc candy bar with whipped cream and choc chips. It seems to be like fudge. The top is regular milky ways melted and folded into whipped cream like a mousse.

I was surprised that I think with a little modification I can do the Hiit 40/20.

Joan

Saturday

Good Morning!

It is really cold here today, no snow thank goodness. I think I will do a new Cardio Coach that I downloaded the other day, using the treadmill. Breakfast was nice with my friend. We got a chance to catch up. We go to this little family restaurant that lets us sit there for hours, we tip very generously.

I just ordered Travel Fit. The clips are up for anyone interested. I am hoping that the bands we have ( green) will be ok and we don;t have to buy another thing, but of course if the band is different, I will end up buying it.

DH is sick, came down with some cold/flu yesterday, so all of our organizing/clean up plans are now out the window.

Josie, have a great vacation and good luck with the gambling!

Joan, you are braver than some of us...that HIIT cardio looks hard!

Garance, those turtle bars sound good too, I don't think I want to give DH the recipe, he might make them and I will be the one eating them. Cardio Barre must be harder that P-57? ouchie....

Have a great weekend!

Hi Deb, Joan, and any later posters--

Did Housemax this morning. I was going to do a bit of shopping, but we are getting snow, so I am only going the couple miles to my office.

I AM SO GLAD I CANCELLED MY ORDER FOR SHOCK CARDIO!! I could not believe those clips for HIIT. There is no way I would ever be able to use them. More power to you, Joan, if you can invent some modifications for all that jumping. I still ordered the step DVD and the Travel DVD. I think I will be able to modify on the step and the travel one looks just fine for my old knees.

Deb, Cardio Barre is relentless. I probably should have bought the first one which has three gradually faster workouts, but my hubris led me to buy the advanced one. I will eventually be able to keep up, but it will be awhile. It's just crazy fast on some of the moves.

Sorry about your DH, Deb. Always a tough time of the year to be sick. Are you still going forward with the bathroom renovation?
