Cathlete
Good Morning!

Today I did a 30 minute I-Tread, plus the Chest, shoulder, and tricep pre-mix from Cathe 4DS. I burned 453 calories which is a record for me.

Valerie, I also have a hard time with the chin ups/pull ups in STS. I bought the assistance bands and they do get easier, not that I can do one without the bands. The Tower from Cathe is almost impossible for me to use for those. I guess it takes a lot of practice.

Joan, you must have needed the rest! OMG all those trees! what ambition you have. I feel like a slug/Scrooge.

Cathy, thanks for the recipe. My kind of cooking, minimal ingredients and minimal work! I have a bag of butternut squash to use up. Do you water it down at all with anything? Is it a tree you are not going to get? We have an artificial one that is still in the attic and will stay there this year....no spirit right now.

HAve a great day!

Good morning Deb and all that follow,

No wo yet. I started housemax and that and grocery shopping may take most of the day.

Monday

Good morning all,

I again "attempted" the P-57 workout...not doing it well. It has a real dread factor building up. I will try it again Thursday, the plan is to do it twice a week, with other upper body and cardio workouts in between. Not sure how long I will be trying it though.

Joan, you have the workouts, how are you doing with them?

Garance, Josie, Cathy, Valerie, how was your weekend?

I am on vacation this week. Hope to get some last minute things done for
Christmas. I have to send out the multiple packages of sugared pecans I made and still need to make more for the local family.

Have a good day!

Hi Ladies,

I did my usual during the weekend. I did not put up a tree yet and the later it gets I will probably end up not putting one up. I have bought a few things, but I'm far from finishing my shopping. I just got a call from my dil and she said that her dm is angry that the kids are not going to be with my dil. My ds is ready to go on deployment again and might be able to spend Christmas with them and then not see them for 3 months. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. I also wanted my grandkids so that we can make our cookies.

I will probably not workout today. I'm a bit depressed now

Josie

good morning all;

I had a good workout weekend. saturday did stationary bike, 35 treadmill, and coremax. sunday we did a medium 2 hour hike in a nearby park. got caught in a sudden localized snow storm that made the roads into a sheet of very slippery ice. got home barely. We live on top of a hill and we were not sure we'd get there. we have 2 good snow vehicles and one high mileage one and we had the wrong one.
Later did a bike warm up and STS #3. I have some sore spots today. I did the whole thing, shortened reps on a few moves but went thru the extra blast at the end. I made notes when I did this in spring ... a rough time time with the paper plate moves but not this time thru. I lightened the weights from spring. I had done it several times so I went back to the original weights I started with. I wanted to get sore but not too sore. doms in big spots, namely my butt. usually the second day is worse for me so I'll do either disk 1 or 2 today and tomorrow will be my day off.
the roads are so icy here that DH took MY car so I have the wimpy corolla and it doesn't like snow and ice much. it's warming up by this evening with rain so it's best to take a house day and not risk a crash.

I don't do much decorating. I have a very large ficus houseplant I decorate if we have guests. No one has ever noticed it isn't a real christmas tree. we tried live trees a couple times but they always died after we planted them and I just can't kill a tree for this. Yeah, I know, they're grown specifically to be cut for trees but I don't like to participate. anyway, we usually host thanksgiving and someone else does christmas so I keep it extremely low key. we try to get in some hiking, skiing snowshoeing... something outdoors if the weather isn't too bad.

I'll second the squash soup idea. I love it! I usually add ginger to it. Love that flavor combo.

P-57 workout keeps surfacing. what's it like? I'm probably not buying any more workouts until I get thru what I've got, so just curious.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

Yesterday morning I did disk 13 for chest, shoulders, and triceps (65 min.), and this morning I did Bootcamp Boogie (62 min.). I loved my tower for the chest work because I can at last go heavier (50 lbs. bench press)!

DH and I have been busy--bought a 52" Sony Bravia LCD which should be here by the end of the week. We still have not bought our Blu-Ray DVD player. Any recs? We had fun shopping--ended up buying two digital cameras, one for me, one for my younger son. Our old digital camera is almost impossible for me to use. This one is perfect for me--just aim and shoot. Love it! DH bought a headlamp for himself. Very funny conversation with sales person in Eastern Mountain Sports, who is exclaiming over wearing this headlamp in the Andes, on the Amazon River, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. I finally said "He needs it when his cows go into labor in the middle of the night." Then a second guy came in, also in search of a headlamp to wear when he has problems with his cement mixer. The sales person laughed because it's pretty unusual to have a run on headlamps. Saturday we bought our tree, but have not put it up yet. I love Christmas trees and decorating them. Makes me sentimental for when the boys were young and mesmerized by how special it was to have a tree in the house.

Went to a big open house party yesterday and tried not to eat too much. I was pretty good.

Josie, I thought your son was no longer in the military. I pray it is not Afghanistan. So will you have the grandkids or does dil's mom get them? I would be down too.

Deb, I vote for the squash soup as well. There are some great recipes at epicurious.com. My favorite is the one that uses cider. I also like butternut squash cubes and parsnips cut up, tossed with a bit of olive oil and baked at 400 degrees until tender. Very easy.

Hi Garance,

My DS re-enlisted for 2 more years because of the job situation. He and his wife are getting a divorce and she moved to a town named Hanford near Fresno where her DM lives. I don't think that he is going to Afghanistan, but every trip is dangerous regardless of where they go. My DIL said that I could have the kids from the 19th trough the 23rd if my DS is gone otherwise they can stay with us until the 26th.

Josie

Good evening,

Josie Glad you'll get grandkids for awhile at least. I wouldn't have decorated as much without Elliot.

I gave Elliot a oatmeal cookie today and she asked for sugar. She wanted to decorate it. She frosted it with choc frosting and put sprinkles on it. It sounds disgusting to me but she had fun.

Deb I don't mind p57 but I can't seem to get any rotation started. I did do 3 miles on treadmill.

Calories eaten today were 1585.

It's supposed to get down to 12 tonight.

Joan

Tuesday

Good Morning,

Today I plan on doing cardio and maybe some upper body work. I went shopping with my cousin yesterday and I am spent! We went to so many stores, I have lost track. It was fun and the weather cooperated.

Josie, sorry to hear about your DS and redeployment. Is there a chance he will stay stateside? I know you will enjoy the visit with your grandkids.

Valerie, here is a link to the P-57 site. Garance can give you more info on what she has done with it. I have only done the 30 minute workout twice so far. It is really hard. I feel like a dork when I am doing it, especially when I see the girls in the studio and then see myself in the mirror..
http://www.physique57.com/categories/7881-physique-57-trade-workout-videos

Go to "The Buzz" section after you see the video part and see Kelly Ripa who promotes this as how she got the body she has..

Garance, LOL about the sales person in EMS.. thanks for the tip on squash recipes..I will go over to that site and see what they have.

Joan, you were up so late! I know there is a time difference between you and where I am but is said you posted at 2:15 am!. I am trying to do what Garance did, use the P-57 in place of the leg workout. I am doing mine twice a week since it is only 30 minutes. I really do not feel "worked out" and I only burn about 150 calories doing it. I think I need to add cardio after or before it.

Have a good day.

I was stuck at home yesterday without a car so today I do 2 days worth of errands and shopping. I put the time to reasonable use... did 25 min on the stationary bike, 25 on the treadmill and STS disk 1. It's amazing how many more pushups I was able to do compared to a week ago. it's how the pushups are spaced thruout the workout. you would never do that many if they were all together but spread out I can do many more. Still can't do them all but lots of progress in a short time. I have trouble with the staggered ones. My arms won't bend if I keep my elbows in and falling on my face is not productive.

My butt got sore from disk 3 but strangely my arms and chest seldom get sore. different areas respond differently to exercise. I'm not complaining, it's nice not to get sore! I have the weights at what I can manage on disk 1 and 2. I'm going to repeat #2 and #3 yet this week and then decide if I'll do them a third time or go on to #4. I repeated the first disks when I started STS before but didn't repeat as much after the first 3.

Deb, thanks for the link. I'll take a look.

garance, too funny with the headlamps. We must have 8 or 10 of them. we keep a headlamp in each car so I can read while we drive, and we use them for work projects. so much easier than a flashlight. the LED ones are bright and the batteries last forever compared bulb flashlites. Every year I check the bulb flashlights so I'm ready for winter power outs, and even barely used ones are dim, while the headlamps go on and on.

Hi again,

Got my workout done, 30 minutes of Grace babbling on, ( I still love her though), then the Back & Bicep pre-mix from 4DS..that is a killer workout...5 rounds for each part, with 2 exercises in each round. I was screaming at her to "STOP ALREADY".. I confess I skipped round 5 of the back ones.

Valerie, good job on all the cardi PLUS STS...not sure how you do that!

Hi Ladies,

I got my P-57 yesterday. I will preview them tonight if I get a chance. I will be working out with Kevin plus spinning tonight.

I need to make a trip to toys r us before my grandkids get here. I always wait to the last minute for everything and then I'm rushed. I did go to Home Depot and bought a small live tree and I and DD decorated it last night. It looks beautiful and it smells great.

Deb, I should review my 4DS and do the arm portion like you are doing. My DS is hopping that he will not have to go until after Christmas, that way he can spend it with his kids.

Hi to Valerie, Cathy and Joan.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did the P-57 30 min. workout for legs and abs, followed by 2 miles with Leslie wearing my 10 lb. vest (30 min.).

Valerie, I just never did see any results from STS on my legs. Never had doms, did not lose any inches, and I went pretty heavy, especially on deadlifts. P-57 has really been effective on my butt and legs and the abs work is very helpful. DH is using his headlamp to see across pastures, so it is pretty expensive. The guy buying it for his cement mixer bought a much cheaper model which does not extend so far with the light.

Deb, who is Grace? I haven't done the weight work from 4ds in quite awhile, but I remember it being very effective.

Josie, so happy that you will have your grandkids for awhile. What's the big toy for this year??

Joan, it sounds like Elliot is a "more is better" girl. As William Blake would say, "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." He was an 18th-century hippie IMO. Hah! at last it is colder in Missouri than it is here in Massachusetts.

Hi to Cathy!

I don't have a problem with doing long workouts as long as different parts are involved. I wouldn't do sts legs the same day as treadmill but upper body works fine for me. Plus, I got sore from the sts legs, and I was hoping some easy cardio might help process the doms more quickly! For decades, all I did was cardio so leg endurance is good.

I've never been consistent doing weighted leg workouts. I have several ... GSlegs, Butts & guts, but I don't do them often enough, get sore, am reluctant to do again. so the pattern continues. I've always done loads of cardio in hopes of slimming my legs but no luck. I tend toward big muscles so I need to be careful with weights. I've tried, but I can't ever figure out how deadlifts work my legs to any degree. they must be somewhat involved but it always feels like lower back primarily.

Josie, I meant to mention, my husband's family all live in the Fresno area. It's pretty nice during the fall, winter spring, but the summers are killers. we don't get down there too often cause I melt in the heat.

Reminds me, I didn't look at the P-57 workout like I planned. Another one I hear about is P90X. DH has had ongoing problems with the treadmill and may need to switch to other exercises until the mystery sore spot clears up.

howdy ya'll! sorry to be awol again, just so busy. i know everyone is.

yesterday i did the old cardio sculpt, and boy, was it hard. i forgot how hard it is. i went very heavy ,too.
today was imax 3, another CRAZY hard cathe. the woman is insane, that is all there is too it.

deb, you're welcome, and you can put as much of the boiling water in it to puree' it as suits you. i like mine thick, but, some people like it thin. then, if you want after it is puree'd, you can add milk. i don't , cuz it is very good w/out it, and that just adds calories.

made 4 pecan pies today for my bosses, well, kind of my bosses, i don't work very much. LOL! but, i'm still on the payroll. actually, there are 3 vets, but one is for us for Christmas day. i LOVE my pecan pie. i have to have a piece. it will kell my WW. but, i have been doing very well, so, i'm gonna save it up for Christmas day. :)

Hump day!

Good morning all,

No workout today, I have my yearly physical at 8:00 am followed by a bone density scan at 9:30. Joy. Don't I plan fun vacations? Monday was Gyno/Pap, now this. Oh well, I like to get it all done at once and not have to think about it all year.

Josie, I am interested in what you think of the P-57 workouts. Is that hamster thing the hot toy this year? I am using just the upper body weight work from 4DS, no legs though, subbing P-57. Does your DS know where he will be going?

Garance, Grace Lazenby is the woman who talks you through the treadmill workout from ITRAIN.com. They are either burned on CD's from their site or downloaded to an MP3 player, which is what I do. They are interval workouts, using the incline and various speeds on the treadmill. Keeps the boredom factor down. I really like the weight work in 4DS, but it was those low plane lunges in the leg workout that messed up my knee. I am still paying for it.

Valerie, P90X is very good, except for the leg workouts, I don't like their style. Also, there is kickbox , a plyo workout and tons of ab work. Your DH might like STS, especially Meso 2 & 3.

Cathy, cudos for waiting on that piece of pie! So you like WW? I am still on the fence about joining the online WW. I really should. It's not like I don;t know what to eat and what not to eat...sigh...it's the will power.

I will check back when I get back home to see what everyone is up to today.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Kari Anderson's Hot Steps (60 min.). An oldie but goody on VHS. Had to re-learn some of the steps.

Deb, I think I once had a Grace Lazenby step workout that I liked, donated to the library at some point. What's the hamster thing? With no young children--all tweens and above-- anymore in our family, I haven't kept up with toys. Mostly they want money. Which makes things pretty easy.

Valerie, you might like Physique 57 for your legs if you have a tendency to bulk up. You only use your own body weight and the moves are primarily for long, lithe lines. I like it, but found them pretty tough at the beginning.

There were some interesting recipes on the Today show yesterday. Three viewers from Brooklyn, Wisconsin, and some southern state (cannot remember), came on to demonstrate favorite family recipes for Christmas. If I can find black walnut flavoring somewhere, I may try the "Grandma Duff's sea foam" which Matt Lauer seemed to be having orgasms over. The orange juice balls looked easy, too, but the Chocolate Christmas Dream looks way, way, way too rich.

I have to start some baking tonight.

Hi Ladies,

I will be going out with my DH tonight to see Brian Culbertson. You can listen to him on Amazon. He is a twenty something year old musician and he is amazing. He plays jazz.

I'm trying to clean out my desk before I go on vacation next week for 2 weeks. I want to come back to a clean area. I can not work when it is cluttered.

Garance, I also need to start baking soon otherwise I will be rushing.

Deb, I did not get a change to preview P-57, but I will try to do it this weekend. My DS does not know when he will be leaving, he is on call, but it seems like he will be here for Christmas. I will see him this weekend.

Valerie, I know what you mean about the heat in Fresno, I'm so spoiled by living near the beach and can not stand it either.

Hi Cathy and Joan!

Josie

Thursday

Hi,

Did some stuff around here this morning, then I have to go to work for our "Seasonal" luncheon. Yes, I said Seasonal.

DH made turtles this morning. He is going to make sure I don;t lose
weight.

It's snowing here, that light fluffy stuff that you wish would only come down on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

Garance, I didn't know that Grace did any step videos. I know she did yoga and pilates. The hamster toy was this mechanical thing that some saftey board said was unsafe for kids for some reason, then they came out and said they were wrong. I guess it didn;t hurt the sales at all. Supposedly it's "the toy" of the year.

Josie, how was the music? I will go over and listen to him. DH loves jazz.

Have a good one!
