Cathlete
Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, the agility fun match was "fun" even though Kylee did not have her best performance. Love that we turned the clocks back.

Lori, the new CEO sounds great. Good that he recognizes when things have to change to something that worked, rather than inventing a change, just for change sake. That's how I feel some changes are made...yep..."like having a 2 year old" is a good comparison to having a puppy around the house. They are a workout on their own. :)

Diane Sue, I use a pillow that would be a decorative pillow for a sofa....one of those ones that is placed on the sofa standing up? It is pretty flat. I don't like my neck tilted up in any way. I have the hardest time sleeping in hotels because of the pillows they have. Yes, post the pics of the grandchildren that you have. Is that JS Lower Body barr blast a Body Bar workout or a Barre workout?

Josie, maybe some volunteer work would help you feel like you are doing something with your life? I felt so good when I was doing the therapy work with the dogs, but got away from it...I need to force myself to commit to something so that I have to go and do it. No...yoga is not for me...first they are too long and I find them kind of boring...(sorry for anyone that likes yoga!)...

Valerie, that hike does sound very hard. I can understand why you would go somewhere like that to get away from the crowds, but why you would want something a little easier so you can enjoy the process. I would think the heater would be covered in the DW...its a major part of it. Maybe because they replaced it already, and it went again they will do it under warranty? How DO those people get to Hawaii?

Carolyn, what is in pumpkin butter? (besides pumpkin and spices?)...

A workout, I think the one Cathe did last week....some new type of weight work..."verticle training"? (I wonder how they come up with these new names for weight training? LOL) and HouseMax for me today...

Take care,

Deb, that is great that the match was fun yesterday. I will shrink the phone pictures and post them. I like yoga, but I do not love it. I find myself checking the time and I rarely waste my time doing their relaxation stuff at the end where I am just layingg on the floor doing nothing. It is not relaxing to me. I lay there and think of all of the other things that I can be doing. I use it for stretching and flexibility. I must have missed the e on barre. If I type on my computer upstairs I don't always catch the letters missed. Plus the spell corrector sometimes throws me off on my tablet and I do not catch it. That is where I am now. I usually do not get out my downstairs laptop first thing in the morning. I read my Bible and have my coffee. I had looked at some of those stand up pillows wondering how the would be. I also wondered about those travel neck pillows.

No workout this morning. There will be bunch at my daughter's today. We got the bicycles yesterday. I am not sure if we will get a chance to go out on them though. It may rain this afternoon and evening.

Hi Everyone,

Thursday I did a total body weight workout, the total body premix from 4 DS. Friday I did an 80 minute aerobic base ride and yesterday I did a threshold test on the bike so I could set up my heart rate zones (part of the Spinerval program). Last week I rode 101 miles.
Tonight I think I will do a KCM weight workout and tomorrow will be a longer aerobic base ride. Tuesday will be a rest day since Chris is off work.

Deb-I'm glad the agility match was fun. I'm happy with the time change too. I agree about yoga classes, I know they are beneficial and I think they can help with a lot of things, but the few times I went to a class I didn't really enjoy it.

Josie-I understand about being in a rut. I think I am in one too. It's been over 2 years since I worked and I feel like I need to do something else. I have thought about doing volunteer work, like Deb suggested.

Valerie-A 6 hour hike is very impressive! I'm sorry about your Bosch :(. We are going to have to get a new dishwasher soon. The one we have now is just over 5 years old and is starting to act up. We've been wanting to get a new one so I don't think we will bother trying to fix this one. We'll probably look for a replacement next week.

Lori-That's great about your new ceo! It must be so much better working for him. I bet GiGi is exhausting! Puppies and kittens have so much energy. I have 3 weight vests, a 7 lb (my first one), a 12 lb and a 15 lb. The 12 lb vest is the one I use the most now. It looks like the one that Cathe wears in STS.

Hi to Diane Sue, Lynda & Caitlin!

Judy

We were told the heater repair runs about $400. or we could have Bosch send someone out to diagnose the problem for $200, but that is diagnose, not necessarily fix. the Bosch heats water differently than some other brands and I'm sure it could have been an electronic board failure too. to me though, it was the same failure that occurred in the first couple months we had it. that was warranty repair and it took the guy 3 or 4 visits to fix it because bosch told him it could not be the heater because "they never fail". I wrote detailed notes at the time thinking it felt like I'd gotten a lemon and it might happen again. Whatever. a new one is $800 plus installation. this time, for the first time ever, I paid for an extended warranty. It will be installed this next week but will not know until I talk to service dept on Monday. I "kinda sorta "looked at kitchen aid but I decided to stick with bosch. I had a KA that failed miserably just before we bought the 1st bosch.

I like yoga but sometimes it was more the social connection with a group of nice women more than the yoga itself. the class was more physically challenging than others because the instructor pushed us a bit. I keep thinking I should go back but I've gotten too lazy to get up and drive for a 7 am class. yoga is very much about the teacher.

Deb I never can sleep on hotel pillows either. I toss the pillows on the floor, put a sweater or towel inside the pillow case and sleep on that. only a slight elevation. can't tolerate my neck getting tweaked on a weird angle like fat pillows do.

When we get into a rainy stretch of weather, a dry day brings out masses of people even on weekdays. I've gotten too cranky to put up with them when hiking, so will do less attractive hikes to avoid it.

judy that is some impressive mileage. I took yesterday off. I got a bit sore from the hike with some blisters on my toes. I was just tired! feel OK today.

Lori, are you able to leave Gigi at home all day while you're working? do you need to keep her and Nilla separate?

Hi everyone--

This morning I did live Vertical Loading (50 min.). I really like this one as an alternative to all the metabolic weight workouts with compound moves. I will definitely be returning to this one. Rating 5.

Deb, it sounds like you had a good day yesterday and fun with Kylee. I'm not a big yoga fan either. I would rather spend some time meditating.

Judy, that is so impressive--101 miles! I wish they would make Tuesday a national holiday so that everyone would have time to vote--especially in states that have no early voting, like Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Valerie, I'm not sure I would enjoy a hike like the one you described. I hope the views and wild life were worth the effort. It does sound like you were the unfortunate victim of a lemon. My first car was a lemon. It finally blew up after I traded it in. The dealer thought he was getting a great little car and one of his mechanics immediately bought it. A couple weeks later, it really did just blow up. I was so happy to just get it out of my life. I must have changed the damn spark plugs on that Datsun a hundred times.

Lori, GiGi must be a handful. Is she alone all day? It sounds like your job has really become exciting and enjoyable with your new boss.

Josie, I chaperone women in shelters to court hearings and I really have found it rewarding. I learn a little bit about the law and try to give some moral support to women in abusive relationships. I also am a member of the League of Women Voters, and we do a lot of educational stuff--meetings where we tell people about the various things on the ballot or introduce people to the candidates in a meet and greet situation. Volunteer work really is a way for me to get outside of myself--writing is very secluded. I also have a reading group--literary theory--and I am enjoying the younger faculty at Williams.

Hi to Carolyn and Caitlin!

Off to my dinner tonight. I'm wearing a dress I bought in Great Barrington by Aris A. Kind of out there, but my friend persuaded me to buy it.

Hi Ladies,

I feel better today, I found a place where I can volunteer. It is called Project Angel Food and I looked into volunteering in their kitchen.
It is not far from my house and once I go through their orientation the time commitment is up to me. I love to cook and bake and to be able to work doing what I love sounds good to me :). The next mandatory orientation is not until December 15th, so I have to wait until then to start.

Judy, wow! That is crazy how many miles you rode. You are me hero!

Deb, I love flat pillows and can never get comfortable when we stay at a hotel.

Valerie, I remember when you got our dishwasher. We have had ours for 14 years and we have had it repaired twice. We have the American Shield insurance for our appliances and it has saved us a lot of money.

Diane Sue, enjoy your brunch. My DD and I are going to hang out today and do a little shopping and lunch.

Carolyn, I have not activated my yoga pass yet, but will do it tomorrow. I plan on taking their bodyworks class and a basic yoga class and their TRX class too. Their yoga classes are only an hour, more that that is hard for me to stay focused :)

Hi to Garance, Lori and Caitlin!

Josie

Today I did Cathe's Yoga Max which fits right in to the discussion topic. Yoga Max is 48 minutes, which is the limit of what I will do. I don't love yoga, although I have tried. I like to do yoga workouts that are more stretching. Deb, I also get bored if the poses are too long and the pace is slow. In addition to Cathe's yoga workouts, Chris Freytag has a 20 minute and a 40 minute yoga workout with the 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme that I will do. There is the Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga that is also short. I have others that are more of what I think of as true yoga that I avoid and I am not motivated enough to go to a class.

Deb, I think of pumpkin butter as pumpkin pie jam. I use a can of pumpkin, small amount of apple juice, 1/4 cup sugar and the spices. I cook it on low heat for about 25 minutes until it thickens.

Lynda, the volunteer work that you are doing sounds like the something that I would like to do. I have looked into a couple of volunteer opportunities but I am still enjoying my unstructured time.

Josie, it's great that you were able to find something that let's you use your cooking interest.

Hi to everyone and wishing you an enjoyable afternoon.

Good afternoon all!

Yesterday I did a youtube rebounding workout called Power Jump Mix...there are a ton of these and they are in Portuguese. I did not understand a word they were saying but I loved the workout! Very fast paced. The music is upbeat american which made it a lot of fun. Was really easy to follow along. I did another one today. I get the same high from jumping with these workouts as I once did from running. Both workouts were about 45 mins after and calories burnt were about 470 each.

Lynda...thanks for the review of the vertical workout. After jumping today I was seriously thinking about cancelling Cathe Live for a bit. But now you have made me want to try this one out. I have not been doing them as regularly as I used to. I probably will never cancel anyways. Hate to miss out on a good workout. Sounds like you are very busy with your volunteer work. Great that you do all that.

Judy...unbelievable riding! Good for you!!

Diane Sue...have you tried any of the Power Jump workouts. They are over an hoir but once you cut out all the instructional parts they move along. I did the most recent ones and loved them. For these I used 1lb ankle weights and 1lb hand weights. Perfect for these jumps. I have tried several times to stick with yoga and I never do. I enjoy while I am doing it but just can't do it regularly.

Valerie ...things are just not made to last anymore. If you remember we bought a bosch. Hoping it lasts a while especially since we had so much hassle getting it installed!

Josie..glad you are feeling better. Sounds like you found a great place to volunteer. Even better it is close to your home.

Caroyln...perhaps I should try Cathe's Yoga. Have have done them but many moons ago.

Deb...glad you enjoyed the agility match. We are exhausted running after GiGi. I took her for a nice long walk today...about 1 1/2 miles. This is the longest she has gone. She is only 12 weeks so we have been working up to her walks. She is sound asleep and has been for a while! :) Chester and I used to go for about 4 mile walks on weekends in nice weather - then go for a swim. Hoping she will like doing the same.

Have a great afternoon all!

I forgot to mention, Diane Sue, I don't think that dvd place would help me. This was a brand new dvd that froze--no scratches--and really stubborn about getting out of the dvd player. I was afraid to put it in again.

Here on the two grandparents day pictures that I took. My granddaughter with the camera for the yearbook and grandson. Also my youngest grandchild was over that evening. He was having fun working out. He tried to put some of my stuff back where I had it before I started organizing. The little blonde boy up on the play area is my grandson.

Lynda, that is odd that the dvd got stuck in the player. I would be afraid to put it back in too.

Lorie, I have not heard of the Power Jump workouts. I will have to check them out.

Carolyn, I don't mind Cathe's yoga workouts. Most of the time I use one of the premixes though. I have quite a collection with some shorter ones. I just don't choose a lot of them often.

Josie, that is good that you found a place that you can volunteer for. I have heard of Angel Food.

Valerie, that is too bad that you had to buy another dishwasher that soon. We had a washing machine that was a lemon. They replaced the tub and gasket shortly after we got it. I still had problems with it. I was glad I purchased the warranty. Once the warranty ran out I purchased a second time then we just replaced it when it messed up again.

I thought that I would go ahead and share a family picture with two of our dogs, Gertie and Muffin. This was at our cabin trip in July. That way you can sort of picture the group when I talk about them.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Vertical Loading. This is a good total body workout, very straight weight lifting. I agree with Lynda's rating; a 5 for sure. I am starting to really like total body workouts.

Diane Sue, I would like a 15 minute yoga whole body stretch that I could tack on to a cardio workout....maybe. LOL. One that moved quickly from one post to another. Did you get to ride the bikes? Very nice pictures, thanks for posting.

Judy, wow 101 miles that is really impressive! Also that 4DS total body is a long one and all those weight workouts together have to be exhausting. I can't believe you need a new dishwasher when your is only 5 years old?

Valerie, I guess it is "hit or miss" with different appliance brands...we have had a Kitchen Aid dishwasher for 18 years and never have had a problem.

Lynda, good you got rid of that car when you did. I bet the guy that bought it was not happy....oh well...LOL :). The volunteer work you do must be rewarding. How is that dress you are having made coming along?

Josie, that's great that you found some volunteer work doing something you like to do!

Carolyn, I didn't Yoga Max was that short...was it a pre-mix? I should check out Jessica Smiths's YouTube videos if she has some shorter yoga/stretch workouts. I agree with you on the unstructured time factor. That is why I like the airport volunteering....you don't have to commit to a certain day, or number of days...you can just open the calendar on line, and sign up for a slot that same day or day before.

Lori, wow those workouts sound like fun...in Portuguese no less! :)...and great calorie burn. I am sure GiGi will want the same walks as Chester did. As we always say, "a tired puppy is a happy puppy"....and happy owners too!

A workout, then getting the kitchen ready for the painter....YIKES!

Take care,

No workout yesterday. thought we were going to work on the wall. went to Lowes for a load of bricks. our regular store showed they had them but after a long time of waiting, and having some inexperienced guy operating a forklift...we thought he was going to kill himself!... it turned out they didn't have a full palette of bricks. this guy did not handle a forklift well, and the palette was 30 feet up. back inside, refund, and drove to another Lowes where we got what we needed. but that killed the afternoon. so will work on it today. hopeful we can get the DW install soon, today would be great.

I'm using the dead one to wash dishes anyway. I get the tap water hot, let the DW fill. I run it on a shorter cycle, and add a couple cups of almost boiling water. it's like hand washing but easier. with the door open, the dishes dry in a few hours. I am not set up for hand washing except for big pots. plus, I hate it.
I looked at the KA dishwashers, and noticed they had a "rinse-able" filter similar to the bosch design. don't know if that's all of them or just the one I looked at. my old KA had the "food disposer" mechanism that didn't work. I got tired of taking it apart and rinsing tubing and spray arms out, only to have it depositing crud on the dishes again in 2 weeks.

I can't imagine a DW lasting 18 years. I have a washing machine and dryer that old but no such luck with DW's. I use a DW every day, but I take good care of it.
I bought this one from a dedicated local appliance dealer. Lori, IMO it is much better to buy appliances from the company who will install and service them... if possible. with the failed DW , I bought it at Lowes, installed by another company, and serviced by a third. I won't do that again. much better if only one business is involved.

I thought yoga was a group experience. it's not intuitive for me. doing it alone would probably get me nowhere. good form is important and monitoring yourself is not easy. I reliably did things wrong even though it felt like I was doing it correctly. I've never tried to find a dvd to do at home. there was one style of yoga where you held a pose for several minutes at a time. I tried it several times but didn't like it.

Today I did Cathe's original Boot Camp. Talk about a blast from the past!

Diane Sue, you have a lovely family. I often use the timesaver premix for the yoga workouts too.

Deb, the full Yoga Max is 48 minutes and the timesaver around 35 minutes. I like the STS extended stretch because it's a good yoga style stretch and is only 13 minutes. It's an easy add-on.

Lori, a workout in Portugese--wow!

Lynda, I want to try the live vertical loading workout soon. It looks like one that I will like.

Greetings to everyone.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Amped Up Cardio Live, 58 minutes, 388 calories. I followed this with Kelly's Home Gym Intervals Waistline 9 minutes, 41 calories. This was a nice compliment to some of drills in Amped Up Cardio. Total time 67 minutes, calories burned 429. I have to go out to the bank and a couple of stores. We need the rain but I do not like to go out in it. Our sun room has decided to leak under the flashing again. Last winter my son sealed it. cannot find anyone that wants to come ad fix a sun room. The installers do not want to do it. I have buckets catching the water around the sliding glass doors and the inner wall. It is annoying.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did RS with 1 lb. gloves (48 min.). I like this one a lot.

Deb, I am scheduled for a fitting on the dress later this week. She says it is almost done, but she wants to make sure of the fit and decide on the hem. I had too many obligations last week or I could have gone for the fitting last week and it would be done by now.

Diane Sue, great family photos! Beautiful granddaughter. Sounds like Oklahoma is getting more earthquakes again. I hope you are far away from them. How annoying! I hate house repairs that have to be repeated ad nauseam.

Lori, I always want to see what the new workout will be on Thursday and then try it out. The Vertical Loading really is one of the best IMO. I didn't especially like the leg workout the previous week. A tired pup is a happy pup. I bet GiGi will be like Chester and carry her leash in to you.

Carolyn, yes that Bootcamp is definitely a blast from the past. The Intensity series. I had them on video and that's all I did for months and months.

That dinner last night was so loud I could barely hear even the people I was sitting next to. Ugh! The food was good. My dress was a hit.

Josie, it sounds like you have found some volunteer work you will enjoy.

Valerie, good luck on your wall and the new dishwasher!

On the subject of yoga, my son out in California and his significant other do something called hot yoga in sweltering temperatures. I think it sounds awful, but they both feel like it is a rigorous cardio workout. Reminds me too much of when he was wrestling and had to cut weight, so he would go out with tons of clothes on and run until he was a sweaty mess. Where's the fun in that??

Hi to Judy and Caitlin!

I am back from the errands. The rain let up and I hurried to get out there since the chances go back up this evening. Walmart has their Christmas stuff out. I always try to get as much as the stuff that I would have to go to Walmart for before the holidays so I do not have to frequent that store too much.
Sprouts had good sales on all things plant based which was nice. I got my order of Phi Naturals Collagen Complete today. I researched and chose it because it was a lot like the Wow brand but made in America. I read the story on it and it was a chiropractor that came up with the formula. It has type I,II,III collagen, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, chondroitin, vitamin C for absorption, and an enzyme blend in it. The Wow was working well so I wanted something with the same type of formula. Dr Axe has good products but to get everything you would have to buy multiple supplements and most of his stuff is a 30 day supply so it would cost a lot.

Deb, we did not get out on the bikes yesterday. By the time we got home from brunch it was drizzling. Then my grandson came over to help with things in the garage. Rain today and some tomorrow. It will probably be early though.

Valerie, I don't think that there is any kind of filter on my Maytag dishwasher. I have looked over my book on it. The people that lived here before we purchased the house spent 700 dollars on it. I tried using some dishwasher cleaner in it and had water running out on the floor for some reason. The book says to run your water at the sink so it is hot before you start. I had never had a manual say to do that before. It is plenty hot after it does the heated dry. I practically wash them before they go in there though. I don't like the idea of bits of food floating around in there. That would have been worrisome having someone who did not do well trying to get down the brick. If an accident happened it could have been very bad. I have done a type of yoga with Sara Beth Yoga where you hold poses for a long time and some of it has you using bolsters and pillows. It has been helpful for some of my neck issues. Particularly since moving the head around quickly and back and forth like some instructors have you do can aggravate the problem.

Carolyn, I use Cathe's extended stretch quite a lot. It is just the right length for an extra stretch. I did Cathe,s Stretch Max yesterday morning with the stability ball. I have not used those stretches for a long time. That one is pretty good. I stopped at the overhead move with the ball though because I was using my bosu ballast ball and have been trying to be easy on the shoulders and neck.

Lynda, I have heard of hot yoga, but never thought that it was something I would want to do. I would rather sweat doing some cardio than while doing yoga. My grandson is always going through times of trying to drop weight at the last minute for wrestling. I think my family is pretty special :) I imagine everyone thinks that theirs is special too. I look at them and I am the littlest person there. Happy that my husband and grandson 18 have both lost near 50# each. This challenge started just before we had the cabin stay. They have been showing the earthquake damage a lot on the news here. They are supposedly working on correcting the problem. I was hanging pictures and had just came downstairs to look over my husband's shoulder to see which pictures he was printing up for me. My youngest daughter had family pictures taken Saturday. It is weird when everything starts rattling and shaking. I went upstairs to make sure nothing was rattling off the shelf. The last bigger one I had some picture frame glass get broken when things rattled off on to the floor. This is not good for these older brick buildings. Even the newer ones. A lot of homes here are brick. I dislike it when I am eating a meal with someone and you cannot even talk because it is so loud. That is great that your dress was a hit.

diane sue, lovey family pics. everyone looks so happy. congrats to husband and son for significant weight loss. I a m not someone who washes dishes before loading them. I scrape off significant food chunks, but then it's up to the DW. Mine says specifically not to pre rinse because it will mess up the sensors. I don't have a disposal so I compost or it goes to garbage. I don't want food residue in the septic. this DW was a medium level and was $809, plus install and tax, and the 5 yr service deal......seemed smart considering my DW product history.
too bad about the earthquakes! this is quite a few, not hard to connect them to fracking I guess. brick buildings don't do well unless they were built with earthquakes in mind, and in your area, probably not. we have the same issue here because quakes are not that frequent but when they happen are serious. we( as a community) have retrofitted a lot of buildings here since the last sizable quake. bricks fall down off fronts of buildings and can be deadly.

Wall day today. hard work but not over the top. hope to ride tomorrow. I will NOT sit and watch election returns all day.... not until dinner!

Lynda, that is one of my major complaints about restaurants the last few years. I hate it when it's too loud to converse.... when you find yourself SCREAMING at each other. I don't like it so quiet you can hear every little thing, but really loud places don't get business from me more than once.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I could not resist and did another Power Jump workout. I may be addicted they are just so much fun! Tonight Bob is working late so I hurried up and did SB's workout from her challenge which was Lower Body with Dynamic Stretch Cardio. Was only 19 minutes so was easy to bump out.

Diane Sue...thanks for the pictures. Nice to see your beautiful family! I love (as you can tell) the power jump workouts. There is a lot of instructional in the beginning then the warm up starts. There are several training sessions throughout the workout all taught by a different instructor from the group. Some are easier than others. A couple of them I cut out a session that slowed my HR a bit which brings the workout to about 45 to 50 minutes.

Deb...I now really want to try out the vertical loading workout. Especially since both you and Lynda gove it a 5!!!! Can't wait. 15 minute yoga would be perfect for me!

Lynda...which dress did you were last night? I must have missed it. You need to post a picture of the one being made. I can't wait to see it. I hate when it is too loud to talk. Not enjoyable at all. Thinking I would not like hot yoga!!

Valerie...I hink it is great you are being resourceful so you do not have to hand wash your dishes! What a wasteful day you had. Hate when that happens.

Carolyn...I remember when that bootcamp workout came out. I thought it was so hard!!! Did it a little while ago amd thought well this isn't so bad. Tough but doable. Crazy I am doing a workout in a language I do not speak!!

Have a great night all! Hi to Judy and Caitlin!

I will be so happy once this election is over!!!!
