when I looked up Melting Pot it sounded like you ordered pots of melted cheese indifferent flavors and dipped bread, vegies, meat into them. I just can't picture this as "weight watcher" friendly. I know it's only one meal but I love cheese but I can do serious damage. I limit quantities and frequency. I do better if I order something specific and get my own plate. Besides we will be sitting watching a movie all afternoon. I guess I'll be getting a salad and tying one hand behind my back! I can get my full days worth of WW points easily in one meal if it's cheese based.
Deb, Judy said it better than I did. yes, red yeast rice is a natural statin but because it's non 'drug' form you can't be sure how much you are getting, how standard the quantity is. for a while people were dividing total chol by HDL and getting a index number, yours is 3.2 but I'm not sure if that index is used to judge the overall lipid status anymore. I'll see if I can find what's being used currently.
there are multiple dietary approaches to lowering cholesterol ( diet trends come and go!) but the same thing doesn't work for everyone. "studies" are always a little hard to interpret. it's hard to be sure how honest people are when reporting what they ate, either because of ignorance, or poor records, or a bias to try to impress the researcher. Basically people lie, especially about what they eat, drink, and weigh. .
Low fat, high complex carb, tight limits on cheese, eggs., meat works for me. but it doesn't work as well for DH. We tried the Dean Ornish basically "no fat" vegetarian approach but I couldn't stand the food. no fat= no flavor. there are people who swear by the Paleo/south Beach approach but I can't eat all that meat and low/no carbs. DH gets what I cook and I'm not doing 2 completely different menus.
Deb,
http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/ about 4 questions down there's one about glucosamine/chrondroitin supplements raising cholesterol in some people. this ran in the paper a couple days ago. I take this stuff, I know a lot of people who do, but never had a problem as far as I know. do you? most of the things they print are not "proven" by big scale double blind studies but some are worth a try. I don't believe one approach works for everyone.
wow Judy, spinning for 90!. I was proud of 25!
