Good morning!

did STS total Body, ( minus the Bonus Burns, it was still 60 minutes). Biceps and triceps are almost ignored, she does a gazzilion different types of deadlifts. WTH? The I ate, and we took the dogs to the training hall to let them run around. Well, Keegan ran around, chasing a tennis ball, and Kelsey just walked around sniffing at stuff. We had her at the vet on Friday, they did blood work and it seems like she is starting to go into renal failure
icon_e_sad.gif
. they gave us some prescription food, to hopefully slow it down. apparently protein is very hard for the kidneys to process, so this food is made for that purpose. Anyway, any time we can have with her while she is still active and happy, without pain, is a plus. I am gearing myself for the inevitable.

I am getting ready to get the spelt bread started, and my try spelt/orange muffins. What is everyone else up to today?

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did High Step Training (63 min.). I guess I will pull out High Step Challenge next Sunday.

Ah, Deb, it's so hard to lose a dog. It took us several years after our last one. Did you get any lake effect snow? Way down here we did get some snow yesterday, so I just stayed in all afternoon watching my film for this week (it's a long one--193 min., but perfect for my course). It was blowing like crazy, too. Then last night I rented Eat, Pray, Love. Very slooow, but I didn't mind. I did some knitting and drooled a bit over the pizza she ate in Naples.

Today it's back to the grindstone. I am grading my second set of papers, but they will be easy to do, because they are "glosses" on Hughes's fishing poems. In order to really understand them, you need to find out about salmon, eels, Irish folklore, and some of his crazy ideas about myths and education.

Joan, I hope you can either resolve the problem with your DVDs or send them back and get your money.

Leftovers tonight and I am going to make some pumpkin bread, which DH loves.

Monday

Good morning,

Well it is "Cyber Monday" for all of you Black Friday protesters! I must have had 30 e-mails from different stores, web sites etc.

I started week 4 of the C25K workouts today, very tough. It has you jogging for 3 minutes, with 90 second walks, then for 5 minutes with 2 and a half minute walks, I thought I wouldn't make it but I finished it. I did slow down my job by .2 so that I could do it.

Garance, no lake effect snow here, thank goodness. We had a pretty decent weekend, very windy on Saturday. I wonder if I could use spelt flour for pumpkin bread...mmmm....now I have to research that.

Valerie, you need to go over to the Open forum to the thread called "Road Bike?" and jump in to give her some bike riding advice. She is a newbie looking for assistance.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Deb, I know what you mean by all the e-mails on cyber Monday. They have 50% off on a ton of things at myshape.com. I'm looking at a red party dress by Tracy Reese...just lookin'...

I broke down yesterday and bought KCM's Bootcamp circuit and Rockin' Models, both at totalfitnessdvds.com. 10off promo and KCM on sale. I can tell I will love the music on Rockin' Models and I liked the clip a lot.

Is anyone else in the buying mood?

Two more weeks of classes and then another semester bites the dust.

Hi Ladies,

Thanksgiving was wonderful! I got to visit with all of my brothers and their wives. I only worked out on Saturday and I'm a bit sore today. I will be spinning tonight.

Deb, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. My dog is 11 and he has arthritis on one of his hind legs. I don't know how it is going to be not having him around. My DD made a deal with him that he would stay until she graduates from college :)

Garance, no shopping mood here. I was a bit tired from Thanksgiving. I might go shopping next weekend.

HI to Valerie, Cathy and Joan!

Josie

Deb, so sorry to hear about your doggie. It's so difficult when you lose one, even after they've lived to a ripe old age. Doesn't seem to make it better to know ahead of time what to be expecting either. Hope the diet gives her a good long time yet.

No shopping here either. I'm afraid I don't get too enthused about the craziness that happens this time of year. I will be the resident curmudgeon.... every thread needs one.

We finished our laundry room update, installed the countertop, sink and faucet. it looks very nice, a huge improvement and really did not cost much at all. the countertop was a "preformed" one with laminate of our choice, but we won't do it that way again. If your wall and corner are not PERFECTLY square, and I mean perfectly, and probably none are, a preformed counter may not fit well. we had to trim an edge to get it to fit. but all turned out Ok and we have an entirely new (looking) room for under $1000. I just could not pop the extra $$ for a solid countertop.

I looked on my receipt and it looks like my disks will be here on 12/1. somehow they ended up UPS thought I thought I opted for postal service.

Deb, I'll go take a look at the open discussion for bike stuff and see if I can help.

Tuesday

Good morning all,

I just finished the Upper body pre-mix from STS Total Body, my arms are still shaking. I think I am going to like this DVD a lot. Today I get to go to Canada for the day....woot!

Garance, did you buy that party dress? oh, go ahead, you deserve it! ;). I was surprised that you bought a BootCamp dvd, I didn't think you liked that kind of stuff. Never heard of Rockin Models, is that KCM?

Josie, it sounds like you had a great holiday with family, those are the best. I hope your dog lives to see your daughter graduate and get married!

Valerie, your new laundry area is making me envious! I have a crappy old basement to do laundry in...and I mean crappy. It would take more than $1000 to fix ours up. I try to forget it's there. It was funny about the shipping, if it was outside the NJ/NY area, it was better to use the post office.

Hi to Joan & Cathy,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Barre (55 min.). Still not all that fond of this one, but I want to get my money's worth. The movements are just too frantic.

Josie, I hope your daughter's deal works. Have you tried glucosamine-chondroitin for the arthritis? Works for my knees pretty well, and I know it's supposed to help arthritic dogs, too.

Deb, the KCM Bootcamp has the modifier (I think her name is Lauren), so I will be okay. I just like circuit workouts once a week. Rockin' Models is Grace Lazenby, and it looks like Pilates, Yoga, and Barre combined. The music is what sold me on the clip--as well as the rave reviews over at videofitness.com. I did go ahead and ordered that dress. The shipping is free because I have a Personal Shop at that site, and it's also free shipping return if I don't like it. The problem is I usually like the items they put in my Personal Shop. This is a crimson velvet, knee-length dress. Maybe for New Year's Eve.

Valerie, it sounds like you did well on your re-model. I don't think laundry rooms are worth spending lavishly on--except for the washer and dryer. We just moved our old kitchen stuff into the laundry room (sink, cabinet) when we remodeled the kitchen, which we spent a small fortune on doing.

Big teaching afternoon.

I wanted to make the room look better without blowing a bunch of money. It's the room we come into when we come home. we almost never use the front door so this was a nice thing to do for ourselves.
we replaced the floor with duraceramic, the tile like material, and painted. new light fixture. new countertop, sink, & faucet. the old stuff was 20 yrs old and looked it. it will still get hard use so I didn't want to go weird and do porcelain/granite over- the- top. I still want to get some shelving so we can get shoes, boots, backpacks off the floor. we're getting our kitchen floor refinished in a couple weeks. hardwood that hasn't been resurfaced ever. then on to the carpeted areas and the master bath. one step at a time.

for exercise we ran outside again . yesterday we mt biked, though not as long as usual. brake and shifting problems so we quit early and dropped the bikes off for service. My brakes just didn't feel like they would stop the bike and it made me very nervous.

yoga this morning and it was tough. this lady is a great instructor and I've found some moves that never be possible for me but it was enjoyable just the same. then to the dentist for a crown replacement. when I had braces a few years ago, a space opened up next to one molar that's become a food trap. just the right size for food to get caught. so he recommended replacing it. I was flossing the space 2-3 x a day to keep ti clean, and there was no decay. crown was ancient. it went well. no great discomfort, the tooth was in fine shape so hopefully this will be uneventful.

Wednesday

Good morning,

Not a good night's sleep at all, I did not get up to do my C25k,. It has been raining here for 24 hours straight now, and it can stop anytime it wants. If it gets as cold as it's supposed to, we will be encased in ice.

Garance, Grace Lazenby is the one that narrates all my I-Tread workouts. I think she is a partner in Itrain.com. I like her a lot. I looked at a clip for that workout, just to see her actually moving as a real person:D.

Valerie, scary about the brakes on your bike. Glad you got them in before something happened. Your house sounds like my SIL's in Seattle, and how my MIL's was in Saratoga, where you go into the laundry room from the garrage. Now I can visualize what you are referring to when you talk about your laundry room re-model. I don't think my MIL had a sink and counter in hers though, she had closets with shelves. It was probably an option she did not get when they built the house.

Off to get something to eat and get ready for another day....yawn....

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Just Dance (50 min.). The final stretch was somewhat hilarious because Max kept trying to get into the act--licking my face, nudging my crotch, doing his own version of downward dog.

Deb, it's raining and blowing here as well, and apparently after this front blows through, things are going to get COLD. Brrrr! Hey, it's December, so I cannot really complain.

Tomorrow I have to go the dentist, too, Valerie. A filling dropped out when I crunched a pistachio.

Just office hours this afternoon, and with the semester winding down, I expect a lot of students to show up with anxious faces about their final papers. Same old same old.

Thursday

Good morning,

No workout today, I tried to get some sleep, but it was pretty rough. I must be going through another phase. Hopefully I can catch up this weekend.

We were supposed to get an overnight lake effect storm, but true to "lake effect" it only hits in small bands around the area, and we lucked out in not being one of the bands. They had 8 inches about 15 miles south of here, and we have nothing. Love it!

Garance, LOL at Max doing his own version of downward dog!:D Puppies are such fun. How many semesters do you have left? The count down begins!!

Take care all,

Difficult day yesterday. I had a headache from the day before and it was still around in the morning. either from yoga or from positioning and the numbing procedure at the dentist. I hate those shots into the back corner of your mouth. I get pretty tense and get a bundle of tension and tight muscles up the back of my neck. a combination probably. regardless, we drove to the mountains expecting a lot of snow but we picked the wrong place. everything was driven over, rutted, 4-wheeled, a mess. it was warm and the snow was wet and mashed potato -like. our truck is still "new" and I sweat bullets driving up skunky icy roads. DH was in an ornery mood to begin with ( he has a big dental procedure today) and was angry because things didn't work for skiing, I had a headache, all in all, a negative day.
I felt better by mid afternoon and decided to do disk 14(legs) so DH got on my case about how I didn't have any energy in the morning, and how come I could do this now, and why was I wasting my time doing a leg workout? for some reason he won't do cathe's leg workouts and feels he has to hassle me when I do. so, I thought about drowning him in the bathtub but couldn't figure out how to get him in there... Argh. men.

Deb, bravo on missing the snow. a nice reprieve. the bike brakes were not "dangerous", but I'm squeamish about downhills and the first ones I go down slowly, until I get rhythm. I could slow down but LOTS of squeezing. they're disk brakes so might need new pads. DH and I switched bikes and he had difficulty shifting it but he goes faster downhill so not as much a problem for him. it's been a couple years so decided to get serviced. going uphill it wouldn't shift to lower gears and I ended up walking more than usual. still a good workout though. mt bikes get rough use compared to street bikes. plus it was cold and everything gets stiff.

Sleep cycles, who knows. sometimes I sleep well, and then for no reason I'll get a stretch where I can't go back to sleep at midnight. I've tried all the assorted sleep aids like melatonin and several others with no difference. My clock is bright LEDs, I put it face down to cut the light but sleep cycles get fragile as you get older.

Lynda best of luck at the dentist. we are social friends with our dentist & his wife.. so that helps a little with the nerves but I hate the numbing injection. I go back in a month for the crown placement. so will need to get numbed up again. ugh. I'm lucky, have very good teeth and have not needed much work.

Hi to Josie & Joan.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Slim Sculpt (45 min.).

Boy did you ever luck out, Deb, on the snow. They were showing tractor-trailers stalled for miles and hours somewhere in the Buffalo region, so I wondered about you. Yesterday was perhaps the ugliest day of the year. The rain just kept coming in sheets and blowing sideways so everyone was holding their umbrellas in shield position depending on which way the rain was coming. Ugh! But today it's cold, crisp, quiet, and sunny. DH was so proud of Max this morning. He herded several calves that he is separating from cows for weaning purposes. He simply would not let them run back toward their moms and kept running around them to move them into a separate area. He still has puppy ways, but he's over a year old now and shows some signs of being a big guy. I have three semesters left and one Winter Study coming up, but one of those semesters is a paid sabbatical, so really just two semesters. Yippee!

Valerie, I know what you mean by numbness. My dentist was very light with the novocaine this morning because it was a fairly minor procedure, so I really haven't had that blubbery feeling, and now I can stop putting my tongue back there to explore the jagged hole. Sounds like your DH is menopausal (just kidding!). I don't know why they accuse women of being moodier than men.

More students this afternoon.

Hi,

Finally did get a good nigh's sleep. I did not get up to work out either, wanted to keep my mind resting, not thinking about getting up at 4:30.

Garance, Max sounds like a darling. You got a treasure with him.

Valerie, I hear both sides of the dental fence all the time, same as you probably do with the DR fence!

Off to work, running a little late today. There is something to say about getting up to work out, I have more time to play here!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did 4 fast miles with Leslie (50 min.).

Good for you on the sleep, Deb! I did not want to get up this morning. My usual December doldrums as it just gets darker and darker and darker.

This weekend is the Christmas walk and I think we will put Maxie in the reindeer parade (dogs wearing antlers). He is so social he will probably be full of Christmas joy.

Big afternoon teaching, and then next week is the last week of classes.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Did bike and treadmill yesterday, unhappily. that blasted disk 14 got me pretty sore. I HATE that... didn't think it was long since I did the previous leg disk but whatever. sore things and butt for 2 days. went to yoga this morning and meeting some friends for lunch. will try to get in disk 15 later this afternoon. we're inviting a new person to go hiking with us tomorrow. she's a new doc at DH's clinic. her DH is in the military and gone for 6 months so we're going to try to show her things to do around here. don't know her fitness or equipment level though so will keep it pretty simple. would hate to drive up to snow and find she has glorified tennies for boots, that kind of thing. we'll know better after spending some time with her.

I LOVE pics of dogs with antlers... they are so darn cute! they almost look like they really could have antlers, if biology were a little different. the separating livestock, is that inborn, natural instinct, or do they need to be trained?
Strong work on getting decent sleep Deb. helps so much, even one night.

gotta get off to lunch.

Good morning,

Not much going on today, I am taking my car to the storage place for the winter, then Keegan's agility class, then HouseMax. We may put the tree up later, or tomorrow.. not sure.

Garance, I love dogs that will actually keep the antlers on! I can barely get a pic of our two sitting together, let alone with antlers on.

Valerie, good luck with the "newbie" hiker friend.

Take care,

I can't believe it's been so long since I posted. It seems like the two never take a nap at the same time so I can sneek a moment to read posts but not much more. After they leave for the day I have been getting in my minimum of 3 miles. Last Sat or Sunday I got in 8 miles but that was off and on during the day.

Since dh will be off on Tuesday and Friday I will plan to get lifting in those days. Probably best if I did full body.

I finished all the cleaning and decorating today.

Joan
