Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/27

Today was STS disc 12 Muscle Endurance Legs. Weights were 15, 20, and 25#. blue firewalker band and I did the bonus stability ball work. 25's were used for the deadlifts and squats.56 minutes, 290 calories. I followed this with Barre Amped Stretch and Strength, Power Stretch, 24 minutes, 60 calories. Total time 80 minutes, 350 calories. I wasn't feeling cardio today. I have not had much sleep the last two nights.
I finally ordered the therapy balls for Yoga Tune Up. I should have done it a long time ago. I have been using Gerties rubber ball when she is not looking. If she sees me she is all over me and wanting to play. I used it this morning when doing some youtube Yoga Tune up short videos to help that pinching throbbing feeling in my shoulders and neck. I should order the upper body dvd. I keep having to log in everytime I get on here again. I wonder why it stops for awhile and then starts in again.

Deb, what kind of bird is Frits ? We used to have a parakeet. His name was dummy. We had him for several years until we found out my daughter was allergic to feathers. I love birds. My parents had one for many years named Pete. He would talk a bit. He said pretty bird pete. He would walk around the edge of my Dad's dinner plate and make the little clicking noises. He had a lot of character. Their personalities are funny.

Valerie, the dvd that I noticed in that series of Cathe's hair was the high step challenge. The introduction she has her normal hair and then when the workout starts she has the long hair in the back. I think that is the one that I really noticed it. That is nice that your niece likes to workout and will go out with you. You might like Cardio Supersets since it is a metabolic type of workout. Hard Strikes uses the boxing gloves for some of it. I think weighted gloves would be just as good. That is funny that your kitty decided to like chicken. It probably tastes better than the canned food.

Carolyn, I have double posted a lot of times and had to delete a post. I really used the live workouts when I had them. I wanted to get my money's worth. I might do it again someday but streaming and not knowing the exact things I am going to be doing in a new workout is sometimes a problem. Particularly if the workout ends up with moves that cause me problems or like now when I am trying to get rid of the shoulder and neck issues. It was kind of exciting waiting to see what the next one that comes out will be.

Good evening ladies,

This morning I did cardio sculpt and then kickboxing with weights from KCM's new dvd. Calories burnt was exactly 200. I then took GiGi for our power walk for 30 minutes and we both enjoyed it. Forgot to set my watch for HR. I have been crazy busy at work this week and took an average of my steps and it is 12,506 a day (Monday-Friday). I used to have a hard time getting to 10,000! Of course the power walks help. :) No wonder I am tired when I get home.

Deb...I never got to the barn door. I have done all the research and I am ready to start this project when the mood strikes. I did so many home improvements in the beginning of the year I needed a break. I do need to get this done though. I did my closet downstairs in the basement before I did the kitchen. In one section it runs along both sides. Our basement is completely finished and an extension of our home. We have a fireplace down there too which we used alot when it was our family room. It is now my closet and gym!

Diane Sue...Great workouts today. loved STS when I did it a few years back. Did not care for meso 1 but loved 2 & 3. I use the blue firewalker loops for a lot of moves. Sometimes green but mostly blue. Cute using Gertie's ball!

Valerie...yes I remember now how you said you met eachother. Congrats on 37 years!! Very nice. Very cute about your cat. Awesome your neice is very fit.

Carolyn...30 minutes is still a great workout. Bet you felt good getting it in. There are times I only have 20 minutes and I try to make the best of it and feel great I did.

I fly out on Sunday to Philadelphia and come home late Tuesday. We are having our Strategic Planning Session and my boss (CEO) wants me there. Love this man that he wants me so involved! So of course I need to plan my workouts. That is what I will be doing tomorrow along with packing.

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I met my friend for an early breakfast, then John got out of work early and we did some errands.

Valerie, you and your husband could not have met at a more fitting place! I hope you have a high number for jury duty call in...yep...food begging pets....same here.

Carolyn, the December rotation looks like a good one...I don't have those HIIT workouts, for some reason I did not order those...Yes, the 15% for the year of LIVE was extended...it's a good deal. No worries on the double post...we have all done it! :).

Diane Sue, I can see Gertie wondering why you are "playing" with her ball and not including her...:). Fritz is a parrot. I have had him since 1980...figure he was born that year...so he is almost 37 years old. He used to talk a lot more, I guess he doesn't want to say much any more. LOL. The Thanksgiving before last, we had an overabundance of Brazil nuts left over and since John and I don;t like them, John gave him one every night around 6:30, saying "Brazil Nuts?" before going into the kitchen to get them. He started to mimic John every night, trying to say it, so as soon as he did, John would get up and get him some. It became a nightly routine. We ran out, and substituted popcorn, but we still call them Brazil Nuts and he still asks for it.

Lori, great workouts! And the step count is amazing each day! That basement area with a closet and gym sounds great! We have a fireplace in the "finished" part of our basement too, and that is my workout area, but when I say "finished" picture the 1950's....LOL. Another trip so soon....oh well, better that he wants you involved, and treats his employees well.

No real exciting plans this weekend; get the Saab to the storage place, agility class this morning, lots of laundry to fold...etc etc etc....

Have a good weekend!

Hi Everyone,

Wednesday I did KCM Meltdown, workout 1. I agree with Deb, it didn't feel like a metabolic workout to me. It was ok though and I liked some of the moves. I will do it again, but I don't think it will be a favorite of mine. Thursday I did a Spinerval, my first in 2 weeks. It felt great to ride again and my knee was fine. Yesterday I did KCM Body Design- Upper Body Strength, and a time-saver premix from Lean Legs & Abs.

Deb-For the meltdown workout I used the 20 lb body bar and 8 lb dumbbells. I might try going up to a 30 lb barbell the next time. I haven't try the boxing workout yet. That's awesome that your parrot is 37 years old! Really cute about the nuts and the popcorn :)

Valerie-I agree about ICE being much easier than LIS. That is funny about your cat :) Chino and Shadow are always following me into the kitchen, and Shadow is a counter surfer. She is always trying to get into our food.

Carolyn-The last time I did the full version of Gym Style Legs I messed up my low back. I think that one and "Leaner Legs" from CTX are Cathe's toughest leg workouts.

Lori-great workouts and step counts! Have a good trip!

Diane Sue- I think you will like the yoga therapy balls. I use mine all the time and they really do help. I'm sure I've avoided having to get physical therapy again by using them with the yoga tune up dvds.

Have a great weekend!

Judy

Deb, your day yesterday sounds pleasant. I love parrots. We had a friend that had a pet store and we wanted the parrot so bad but could not get him because that is around the sam time we had the allergy testing done for my daughter. They do live a lot of years. We spent a lot of time in that pet store. We had 7 aquariums in our apartment. Saltwater and frshwater. It was quite a bit of work maintaining them and moving them. Funny thing is, even some fish have personalities. We dwindled down to one huge show tank and finally sold it before our last move.

Judy, I think that I would try a heavier barbell as well just to see if I could get a bit more out of KCM metabolic we orkout. It probably would work great for someone that was starting out. We had a cat named Bobo that was a sames mix. He would fetch paper wads and bring them back. I think he thought he was part dog because he would get on top of the refrigerator and knock off a box of those little hot dog shaped treats and then get on the floor and try to eat them. He was not allowed in my husband's recliner because he had dark police pants and didn't want to leave with cat hair all over him. As soon as he was out the door Bobo would run and lay in his chair. I ordered the yoga tune up upper dvd last night . It will be here tomorrow. It doesn't cost much at Amazon and I think I will get a bit more out of it. The you tube and 1.99 quick fix I downloaded have helped though.

The funny thing about Puss.... he's on special food because he is prone to bladder stones. the vet said he should be eating at least some soft food because of more moisture, so I bought several cans of good soft food in different flavors. he wouldn't touch any of them. He's a good water drinker anyway, so I decided to let it go and not try to force him by withholding kibble. he is a tiny cat. didn't want him to lose weight. recently he started cruising the kitchen whenever I made chicken so I gave him a few shreds and he liked it. so I give him a little chicken or turkey when we have it. he doesn't bother if I put it by his bowl, but if I take it off my plate and give him some, that's apparently 'different".

deb that is amazing. I knew parrots can live long lives... 37 yrs! wow. . we used to have parakeets and canaries at home. our parakeet lived to be at least 15 years. he was talkative and very friendly. we let him fly around the house in the evening. he's sit on your head or shoulder. How do you maintain a parrot? is he in a cage or does he get to fly?
diane sue... we also had Siamese kitties way when I was young. they do behave more like dogs at least compared to other cats. Ours used to chase balls and bring them back. we tried to teach them to walk on leashes but it didn't work.
Judy, our kitty would like to get on counters but DH has a fit so we trained him to stay off. he also wasn't supposed to sit on fabric furniture but that rule went a way pretty quickly. I got a throw that he sleeps on so the sofa stays fur free and it's easy to wash. he always sits with us when we eat dinner so maybe that's why he's starting to look interested in people food. He is all about being warm and cuddling.

Lori that is serious mileage. I should get a pedometer so I can get an idea of my steps, especially on a day like yesterday. I had one once but it didn't work well and I got disenchanged with the idea. then so many people had issues with fitbits. I'll bet that is a good motivator. You are such a good traveler.

I took yesterday off. did serious shopping and finished up. just need to write a few notes with the gift cards, mail, and we're done.

I finished the November rotation today with Gym Style Chest and Triceps. I was unsure about this one because I don't want to stress my shoulder/triceps but it was fine. I did the tricep overhead extensions with light weights because that is one exercise that causes some discomfort. I used 7# and did half the reps and that worked well.

Diane Sue, I ordered the Yoga Tune-Up DVDs too. I looked at the clips after you posted the link for Knee Hab and decided to try it. They should arrive Monday.

Valerie, I used an Omron pedometer for several years before my daughter gave me my first Fitbit two years ago. That was the basic device that needed batteries. I decided to upgrade and I love my Fitbit Charge HR for tracking steps and fitness data. It syncs with WW to automatically enter my fit points which was an added bonus for me.

Wishing everyone a great afternoon.

Today was cardio and since I have been looking over the Body Blast series I pulled out Step Blast. Step blast was 56 minutes, 435 calories. I then did Step Jump and Punch all cardio skipping the warm up and added the abs, 28 minutes, 176 calories. Total time 84 minutes, 601 calories. Step Blast always seemed to get my heart rate up pretty well once I got going. I remember doubling the challenge at the end. Also the premixes that has cardio and the SJP weight work was really good. I have not done that in years. Cathe and crew look pretty lean in that series. I got y therapy balls this morning after I started but did not want to go out to the mailbox in the rain mid workout. I am going to go use them in a little while. Tomorrow upper Yoga Tune up will be here. Do they deliver mail on Sundays in other states? I will try it out tomorrow. I did use my foam roller this morning for a little bit before I started. I really did not expect to get it till Monday since it was later yesterday when I ordered.

Lorie, I prefer STS 2 and 3 as well. It seems most of the women seem to. I thought though since I was going a bit lighter and and muscle endurance is my weaker area. I figure doing all of this lighter stuff is probably a good change. I have had some muscle soreness from it. In fact my hamstrings are still sore today:) You do great at getting in your steps. I rarely quite make it to the 10000 mark unless I go somewhere that adds extra walking. I think I will make it today though. I am almost there. That is nice that your boss respects your opinion and wants you there.

Valerie, I had a Siamese cat for quite a few years growing up. She was kind of a one person pet. My pet. She tolerated everybody else. Her name was Simba. This was well before Lion King came along. She used to torment our English Springer Spaniel. She would go outside and sit on the fence and taunt the dog. Then when the dog she would leap off and go after her head with her claws. They grew up together and tolerated each other traveling and stuff though. She always slept in my room and hung out on my bed. Bobo was a much sweeter personality. My husband got me a Persian once and I sold her. She did not like anyone but one of my daughters and after several months of her hissing and clawing everyone else including my daycare group I decided I had enough. My Dad had a part Siamese that had all of the markings. My brother took my Dad's cats in along with his own when my Dad died. That is funny that your kitty only wants the meat from you and not the bowl. I was about to mention adding a bit of it and some broth to the food but I guess that would not work. Putting a throw on the furniture is a good idea. We just worked to teach Bobo to stay off the furniture. The only thing was he knew whenever someone was out of the house and room and would do it anyway. We went on vacation once and let friends that were waiting a few days to move into their new house stay in ours. From what they said he was all over the counters and furniture and kept going after the dog treats. He took advantage of us being gone.

I remember buying pedometers and the thing is, all you had to do was sit and shake them and they added steps. I used them for the grandchildren to see who could get the most steps over the day and would give them a reward of bubble gum if they were the winner. Then they figured out how to get more when they were not active. I tried one of those apps with my cell phone once but decided that there was no way I was carrying my cellphone everywhere I went. Particularly on me. My Fit Bit Blaze seems to do well with the steps. It just gives low calorie burns and sometimes higher heart rates than I think is accurate when I am full out on a workout. Today the average was okay on Step Blast but the high showed 181. With my Polars I am lucky if I get 158 for a high. Once in awhile in the 160's. Even with that and going by the average it is under pretty much anything else. I guess I would rather it be a bit low than giving me too many though. I am not sad I got the Fit Bit though. I would imagine these devices get better over time with updates and newer technology.

Carolyn, I have found that the overhead triceps extensions bothers my shoulder a bit. I think some of my issues is still from that rotator cuff injury I had a few months ago. I always liked that Gym Styles shoulders was only something like 11 or 13 minutes? And pretty light. It is easy o skip and the timesaver with the Superset for some of the upper body is nice. I have used them a lot that way. It is nice that the Fit Bit syncs with other devices and programs via Bluetooth. I like that mine syncs with My Fitness Pall and Map My Fitness. I get my calories to log directly from MFP to the Fit Bit as well as the specific workouts when I log them in MFP. My only thing is I need it to be waterproof. I get so used to it being on that twice I have jumped in the tub and started washing my hair then realized I still had it on. I quickly take it off and dry it off and leave it between a towel. They say it is water resistant. I guess they would have to be since we sweat on them though. I need to come up with a habit of taking it off in the workout room before I bathe or something.

I pulled out hard strikes and gave it a try. I clicked on a premix that I thought was the whole program plus core and stretch but after 30 min it went into some tricep moves and then a core. not sure but think I clicked on a different one than intended. the weighted gloves kept coming off. Velcro would not hold with the boxing motions. took them off half way thru because they kept coming off anyway. I did the floor work from Lower body blast after. I never printed the workout sheet for HS for some reason so didn't know what to expect.

I have to show up for jury duty Monday, my number group is on the list. bummer.

Valerie, I usually go to the workout manager and check out the moves on the premixes and workouts. It helps. I sometimes forget what is on them. I keep doing that to see if I think a workout is doable for my neck and shoulders. That is a bummer that you have to go in for jury duty. Hopefully you don't have to serve. I find most people do not seem to want to serve, but there are a few that honestly do. I guess there is really no other alternative if they want it to be a fair trial. I just checked out Push and Pull and Super Sets from the Body Blast series and they do have some just lower body premixes I may do this next week.

I used my new therapy balls this afternoon. I got the slightly larger newer size and they are a light blue shade. The same color as Gerties ball. This was a bit of a problem. She kept trying to stick her nose under my back when I was lying on them. Finally she went to find hers which for some reason was under the upstairs sofa bed. I had to get it for her and then she was happy to sit and chew on it. I did the Knee Hab doing the prehab which uses the balls to loosen tightness. This is a good one and then followed with knee hab segment 2. I also did several you tube neck ,shoulder, and upper back segments. If I have time I might do a short workout in the morning. I have a doctor appointment Monday morning early. It depends on how early I wake up.

Valerie, I went and looked. It seems you did the one that had burn sets triceps and core? I believe this is the one that sometimes I just did the kickboxing and skipped the weights. I confuse that one and Rock Out Knockout sometimes. I think that Hardstrikes is more intense though. I like the heavybag work on it.
