Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/27

So glad it is Friday. Another wake up at 3:30, but this time I did not get up to work out. John took the dogs down and I tried to get some more sleep. That wasn't happening.

Valerie, I agree that most people at our age cannot eat whatever they want and not gain weight. My Dad was one of those though. He was thin as a rail, so thin that the DR's were always bugging him to gain weight. He ate everything and anything. I guess I didn't inherit that gene.

Garance, I don't feel very "worked out" from that upper body workout yesterday. I guess I went too light with the weights, not sure what the exercises were so I didn't go heavy at all. Next time I will try to go heavier. I hate people that talk on cell phones as if there is no one else around. Like we really want to hear all their personal stuff and what they have been doing or are planning to do. Sheesh...

What is everyone doing this weekend? I have $45 in Kohl's cash to spend before Monday so I guess I know one thing I will be doing...

Hi to Joan, Josie, & Cathy,

Take care,

Morning Deb. I woke up early too. I did S&G again yesterday afternoon. I still modify the dragging/crossover pushups. Can't seem to control my feet in that position. so I do them like burpees and then do 2 sets of 30 knee pushups.

I don't understand how so many people can act like they're in a private phone booth while they're yapping away. I am WAY too private a person to be broadcasting personal information.

so will do LBB or Afterburn today. tomorrow will a snowshoe/ski depending on where we want to drive. Sunday ( drum roll please) is my "clear liquid day" before my colonoscopy on monday. Ugh. I don't plan on exercise sunday. the other time I did this I felt like a dishrag, totally limp all day from no food. If I feel better this time I'll try to do a light workout to pass time.

My father was thin and ate whatever he wanted. he was, however, a smoker and had a duodenal ulcer. once or twice a year he'd get an ulcer attack and would be sick for a week or two. he'd lose 10-15 lbs.... 2 unhealthy ways to keep your weight down. everyone else in my family is fat. they all eat too much and don't exercise. I'm the only "normal" weight one. but I do need to work at it.

Joan, that's what happened with my in-laws. they went from fairly active outdoor jobs to sitting and didn't change their eating habits to match. they weren't thin before but have each put on quite a few lbs since retiring. I got an email from them saying they are sorry they were in such bad shape and next time we see them they will have improved. I hope so. they are way too young to let things slide like that.

Valerie, That may be good news if they recognize how bad a shape they are in now. I think even small weight loss (5-10%) can help stave off diabetes and help blood pressure. I still expect it will be hard for them. I know for me the exercise calories burned are very few. My lifestyle is just very sedentary. I hope they find something they love to do.

I've had kids longer each day because one of their cars won't start. It's the stupid electronic key. Sounds like it will take awhile to get a new one.
No car seats in borrowed car so I have to wait until 5:30 when son can pick them up. Not sure why I couldn't drop them off at their house but dil wasn't going to be around.

Still walking 2-3 miles per day but before Thanksgiving I got in 4-5 most days.

Joan

Hi Ladies,

Happy Friday! Tomorrow I will be riding my bike with my ALC group. We are doing 30 miles to commemorate World AIDS Day, We are touring the facilities that the funds collected through the ride support and to have we will make a stop to remember all of the people that have lost their lives to the decease in the last 31 years.

Garance, I have not used the DVD yet. I want to get the spinning bike that I saw at Sport Chalet. I told my husband that I wanted it for Christmas.

Joan, it sounds like you are being taken advantage of. My ex-dil tries to do that with me by not having time to meet me half way when I pick up my grandkids. I have to drive all the way to Fresno which takes 3.5 hours each way and about $60.00 dollars each way for gas. I told her last time that if she did not have time, then she would have to pay me the $60.00 for gas for the way home.

My 2 co-workers a complaining about things that are bothering them but will not bring it up to our boss, and I have a feeling that it will go on all day. I told them that if it bothers them so much, they should speak up, but I know them and they will just keep talking about it over and over again. I want to go home ;(

Valerie, I wish I could try XC skiing; it is something I have always wanted to try.

Deb, I hope that you can get your workouts this weekend.

Hi to Cathy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

Deb, I match Cathe on the weights except for the biceps, when she uses 20 lbs for concentration curls. Ain't doing that. What are you shopping for with your Kohl's money?

Not sure what we'll be doing this weekend. Maybe another comfort Sunday meal. I think there is also a craft fair, but it seems like it's the same stuff every year--no new vendors.

Josie, I would go crazy if I had to listen to broken record kvetching day-in-and-day-out. Sometimes our department meetings go on and on with the same people making the same arguments over and over again. Drives me up a wall.

Valerie, I was about to wish everyone a great weekend, but prepping for a colonoscopy rather ameliorates "greatness." On the other hand, consider this an opportunity to lose a lb.

Tomorrow is Housemax for me.

I'm going to have a nice saturday, doing something outdoors.

sunday I'll sit and feel sorry for myself while I eat broth and jello. I don't know how anyone would willingly eat Jello again after this process. It will be over by early monday. sunday is not destined to fit the definition of "greatness".

I've been working on my brother to watch his diet better. he lost 5-10 lbs and his blood glucose dropped in half. amazing what a little effort will do. don't need to lose 100 lbs to see results. Everyone else, have a great weekend.

Good morning,

Up at 2:11 am with Keegan who needed to go out. Of course I did not get back to sleep until 3:30, and then John got up at 4:30 with the dogs again.

Going in to work for a few minutes to drop off pop and some money for their pizza/wing lunch. We are having a bunch of the guys at the warehouse in all day for a project and I said I would supply lunch. Then taking my car (Saab) to the storage facility for the winter. Then Keegan's agility class and after that, Kohl's with my cousin. That will be it for today, with a little HouseMax in between things.

Will check back later,

Those dogs sure cause a lot of sleep loss.... good thing they're so cute or you'd want to strangle them!

I did Afterburn friday . still can't do pushups while sliding my feet. more of a coordination issue? I don't think it matters as long as the pushups get done.

Did a snowshoe yesterday, about 6 hours. pretty tiring. snowshoes are harder to walk in than you might think. my feet want to land closer together than snowshoes allow so walking wide is fatiguing. and I bought the narrowest shoes I could find. very pretty day blue sky, cloud banks moving around. loads of eagles. they winter here feeding on salmon in the rivers and are very conspicuous. must have seen a couple dozen yesterday without even trying.

Deb, why would you be storing your car in winter?
