Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/25

I think that Xtrain will be coming soon and most of the buzz and enthusiasm will be about it. I plan to join in on the excitement that always comes with a new series.
I have not done P90x so I can't compare the two but have done STS several times. it's a 3-6 month program. if you like Cathe, you'll like STS. something you might want to research for future acquisition! but right now I think most of the excitement will be for Xtrain.

Good morning friends,

No workout today, late class last night. It's all down hill from here. Speaking of classes, I have an all day training at our head office today, ugh.

Lynda, maybe a couple of inches of snow on Christmas Eve day and Christmas? that't it though. LOL.

Valerie, I like to go by how my clothes fit too, but I somehow miss it when all of a sudden pants are too tight, and then it's way beyond where I want to be when I get on the scale. I weigh myself about 2-3 times a week, usually the morning after a cardio day. Not after a weight day, because I seems like after lifting I retain water for some reason.

Lori, I am 59 ( I think I was the "baby" here until you came along LOL), ( mayby not, how old is Josie?) I live in NY. Married 28 years, no kids, 2 dogs and a parrot. Besides exercising ( when I am motivated, and reading, dog stuff is what I do most of the time. Ask anyone here LOL. Oh, and am a Licensed Customs Broker, working fo 40 years, ready to retire! I have done P90X and it is a good series, however can not compare with STS. I agree with Valerie, I would get the new series, and then see how you feel about that type of working out. STS workouts are the best that Cathe has ever produced, IMO. I am so looking forward to the new series.

Time to get ready. Have a great day!

I find that momentum and enthusiasm come with a new series and everyone will be talking and comparing notes. after a few months it will settle down a bit. because STS took a long time to complete, the buzz went on longer. If I were considering STS I'd wait until there was a lull and consider it then. I love to do something new right-out-of-the-box, and getting both STS and Xtrain, well, one series would have to wait a while. and then whatever had to wait won't seem so new anymore.

Lori, I'm married 30+ years, DH is a physician. no kids, just cats. I was a medical technologist, then a technical rep for a large medical company, then a medical transcriptionist. retired for a few years now. I was raised in the mid west but moved west when I was mid twenties and never regretted it.

Hi Ladies,

I might go spinning at lunch if it is not raining. Tonight I will go to my sculpt class.

Lori, I’m 56 have been married for 23 years and live in LA. I have 2 kids 32 year old son and 22 year old daughter and 3 grandkids (8,5 and 1). I love to cycle and used to do marathons, but now I just cycle for my endurance workouts and tried to do P90X, but fell off the wagon. I now do yoga, spinning and sculpt classes and barr classes at a studio called Yogaworks.

Deb, congratulations on your weight loss!

Hi to Garance, Valerie and Joan!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did the double upper body premix on Push-Pull (46 min.).

Deb, it doesn't sound like we will be getting any snow for quite awhile. It's supposed to go up into the 50s the first part of next week. I forgot to ask: were you happy about how DWTS turned out? I couldn't even recognize the winner. Is she a celebrity of some kind?

Just think, Valerie, now you can go on Medicare. I really like it, although I also have a Medigap policy, mostly paid by the college.

Lori, I did STS twice and was going to start it a third time this fall, but I decided to wait for XTrain, like Valerie. I forgot to mention--we also have a dog named Max. His puppy picture is my avatar. I don't have any desire to move west. It's gorgeous here--I'm in the Berkshires in western MA.

Hi to Josie and Joan!

Congrats to you ladies for your long marriages! I can not say the same as I am on my 2nd one. Been married 5 years to a wonderful man. I am still good friends with my X and we all get along very well which is a blessing. My son loves his step dad so all worked out well. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Needless to say no one wears black when they come to our house! I have been at my company for 20 years and could not be happier. I am office manager and love coming to work every day.

STS sounds really great. I went on line after I was on these forums last night and read all about them. I am now sorry I never purchased them! I will wait for Xtrain and then decide after if I should take the plunge. Knowing me I am sure this will happen!

Garance - we are practically neighbors! I live in Wesminster, MA near Wachusett Mountain. Actually, I am a a couple of hours from you but hey it's the same state!

Good morning & Happy Friday!!

I just finished playing with my gal pal Grace,

Training yesterday was not as bad as I had thought, I had taken it before but always good to get a refresher.

Valerie, I agree that with xTrain coming out soon, not the time to purchase STS. I read that xTrain will have a 90 day rotation I think..

Josie, I guess I wasn't the "baby" here, forgot you were the youngest!

Garance, yes, I was happy with the results from DWTS. I thought it was about time
Tony won, and I really liked his partner. I think she started out on The Bachelor ( not a good show but it got her out there), and she has done some other minor things. She is very sweet, and a great dancer. I think she came in 3rd with Tony in her previous season. I liked Shawn Johnson (Derek) too, but glad that 2 that had never won before took first place.

Lori, what type of company do you work for, and what kind of dogs do you have? I have Wire Fox Terriers, they are in my avatar doing lounging in the yard, which is what they do most of the time.

Agility workshop tonight, taking both dogs...I must be nuts.

Anyone else have any exciting plans for the weekend?

busy day yesterday. had a dental cleaning appt right after yoga. all OK there. I do it twice a year. then home for a while. DH is home thursday morning and was trying to move wood from the pile where we split it to the storage shed, but managed to get the truck stuck in the mud on a steep section. then he had to go to work, and it was raining anyway. so the truck is still down there and this morning if it's not raining too much I wil haul a couple buckets of gravel down there to see if we can get it unstuck. then we'll be able to get a couple truckloads of gravel to spread in the steep parts so it won't happen again.
later on I had a doctor appt to meet my new primary care doctor. She's nice and I feel fine with her so now need to get some of the medicare decisions rolling. need to find out which medicare advantage plan I need to sign up for. Lynda, I'm assuming that a advantage plan is a "medigap" policy? I know around here not many offices accept straight Medicare, you need an additional policy to be accepted as a patient.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Athletic Training (56 min.).

No, Valerie, it's not one of those Advantage plans. It's a Medigap policy, because Medicare does not pay for ALL of the fees, especially on drugs. I had my teeth cleaned last week, and the dental hygienist uses some kind of a needle-thing (or at least it feels like a needle) and it goes really quickly, but I also hate it. Water flying everywhere. Ugh! Twice a year is plenty for me.

Deb, I think the winner on DWTS was some bachelor's original choice for marriage and then he changed his mind on television and really outraged the audience for these shows. Then she was on DWTS, and I do remember her being really good. We are going to the Lincoln film this weekend, and probably to a comfort Sunday meal.

Lori, I am in western MA--Williamstown--which is right across the border from Bennington, VT, and not that far from Albany NY. I will have to check to see where Westminster is. It sounds familiar--some place DH knows about for his animals. Is there a slaughterhouse there with government inspectors?

Hi to Josie and Joan!

Deb - I work for an Italian restaurant chain. Need I say more as to why I need to work out! We have a 7 year old yellow lab named Chester. He is a big boy weighing in at 110lbs. Not overweight just big! He loves his walks and happily pulls me along. I have no complaints with this becuasue I get a really great work out. We also have Nilla a 12 year old Chihuahua. As tiny as she is Chester knows she is the Boss an not to mess with her.

Garance...no slaughthouse here perhaps he is thinking of vermont?

Today was a day off from working out. Hubby and I are going out for dinner. It was my intention to workout this morning, however, Chester felt the need to go out several times lastnight. When the alarm went off there was no way I was getting up.

Good morning,

Brrrr....it's really cold out there, but supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow..? In November? Love it!

Garance, yes, the DWTS winner was the one on The Bachelor that was turned down at the last minute or something like that. Never having watched the show I had no idea who she was when she was on Dancing the first time. Apparently she ended up marrying someone else, and has a cute little girl that was with her Daddy in the front row watching her for every show. Did you see that Downton Abbey will be back on January 6th I believe? Can't wait!

Lori, LOL about the Italian restaurant work...that would kill me! Do you walk the dogs together? that must look funny if you do.

Valerie, you are the patient that my DH loves!

I take the Saab in to storage this morning, then agility class. Then the usual weekend stuff, maybe go to the mall with my cousin, we need a Sephora run.

Ha! That would be funny walking them together! Nilla would prefer to be carried. She is a little princess!

Going to fit in To The Max today and then walk chester later in the day as it is snowing right now. Looks nice but wrecks my workout schedule!!!!! :)

That's what is so different here from the northeast..... it was raining but it was 58 degrees...warm. typical november weather. we will work on getting our truck uphill today. will either chain it up or drag a couple buckets of gravel down there to get some traction on the mud.

I picked a bunch of carrots yesterday. they are getting too big because they keep right on growing, but it's easy to pull them out now because the dirt is so soft. kale is still growing too but not big enough yet. I could grow other winter root crops but I've never liked eating them very much.
Did treadmill yesterday and part of GS back biceps. got too many phone calls and interrupted too often. wil finish today.

Lori, my BIL & SIL have a little chihuahua named Bella. she is so darn cute but nervous around unfamiliar people. first time we met her she hid but this year she'd let me pick her up and hold her if my SIL was in the room. she gets carried when they go anywhere.

Lynda, I was reading a thread on another board. eviews of Lincoln were excellent. Will you go see it? Time mag ran a profile of DDL a couple weeks ago describing his acting methods. very interesting. he really does get "into" the character. I was also happy to see another season of Downton Abbey coming.

My little Nilla is a total love bug. She is my first small dog and I would get another in a heartbeat. She has been a lot of fun.

Ended up doing Butts and Guts this morning instead of to the max. Hubby and I ate more than what we should have last night for dinner so I wanted to really work hard today and I always feel so spent after doing B&G. Then took Chester for a 3 mile walk in the snow. Was really enjoyable! Now I am having a cup of tea and relaxing for the rest of the day.
