She thought they came "already trained"? Please tell me she doesn't plan on having children......

That's a darling little dog. probably won't be hard to find a home for it. obedience training should be required for all dogs but if the owners aren't trained too, it won't help. My aunt got a well trained adult dog but she never was "trained" and in a yr it became obnoxious unruly, and I didn't feel bad when he got hit by a car. he unfortunately lived to be obnoxious and unruly for a couple more years. I'm a cat person myself. Love dogs but we go too many places dogs can't go, and kennel bills used to get outrageous. If he's not destined to get BIG ( doesn't look like it) she can probably sell him for at least part of what she paid.

Read an interesting explanation about why driving conditions get so bad so fast here that makes sense.
The ground is usually warm, we hadn't gotten near freezing at all. so when a cold air mass moves in, the first snow melts, so we always have an ice/slush layer that adheres and hangs around making plowing and ice not too helpful. it's still a mess out there on all the secondary roads. freeways pretty good now. things worked better this time, we got mail and papers but expected packages are not here. We ( the neighborhood) have road plowing service this year but due to the above reason, it does not usually scrape well and leaves the layer of ice.

My pie is in the oven and then I'm done! just some driving tomorrow but not an epic or anything, just 30 miles on big busy roads.

I haven't gotten my new workout disks yet so no comment. I hope they play on my DVD. it's not new but has worked with everything so far. we've had issues with music DVD's that played fine in a toyota truck, but when we got our new Ford, the player spit them right out. don't know why, it was a home compilation of songs so not a factory made disk.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope everyone has a not-too-stressful holiday.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Zumba Cardio Party (46 min.).

Josie, we have a six-burner Thermador. Absolutely love it.

Deb, that is a darling puppy. I can see why you might feel your heart strings tugged. We keep thinking about getting a second dog, but I want to wait until I retire.

Joan, I thought you were blessedly off the hook this Thanksgiving. Give your conscience a break. I would not be happy if I could not play the DVD on my player. I wonder if other people are having similar problems. Poor Cathe if they are!

I made my pumpkin roulade this morning and my Ina Garten dressing. DH will do the brining tonight and tomorrow it's cooking time. We are going out to the Thai restaurant tonight with DS.

Happy, Happy everyone!

Joan, I think you have a defective DVD. I got mine today and it works fine in my DVD player.

Garance, 2 dogs are so great, I would never have only one anymore. If you can care for one, you can care for 2, with the only thing that may prohibit it is if you can only afford the vet bills for one. Then of course, 2 is not an option.

Valerie, I agree on the obedience training, people like the girl that bought this dog should not be able to do this, I blame the breeder too, only looking for the money. She should never have sold this dog to this girl. This is a girl that got a tatoo, and 2 weeks later, wanted her mother to spend $3000 to have it removed because she changed her mind and didn;t want it anymore...kind of like the dog...

awww, cute deb. i tried to figure out how to put a pic of my new g/daughter on here and could not get it done. GRRRR!

Happy Turkey Day to all ....

I had a crappy night, woke up every hour for some reason. John got up at 4:30, took Keegan with him, then Kelsey got me up at 5. I handed her off to John and slept until 6:30. now it...is

until around 9:00 tonight. The big bird is ready to go in at 7:30, then we will set up the tables in the living room etc. I need to do a little more vacuuming, take the dog covers off the furniture. ( only dog people who allow their dogs to go on furniture have to do this)...and hope that when they are uncovered, the dogs don't really make a mess on the furniture.

Enough of my stuff...

Cathy, you have to have an account in something like Picture Trail to upload pics here. It's really easy. Go to Picturetrail.com, set up an account ( it's free), then put the pic you want somewhere you can find it easily on your PC ( I always save mine to my desk top), then on picture trail, go to "upload pictures", it will have a window that says "browse" where you will be able to go over to your desktop and click on the picture you want. Then click "open" and it puts it in a album over on picture trail. Then you can "manage" the album, and copy and past the image URL over here in your response. It is really not as confusing as this may sound!

Happy Thanksgiving.

I got my little turkey on by 8:30 so should be done by 12:30. We will probably eat at 1. Hope to get both Christmas trees decorated today so we will be ready for the live tree this weekend. I put in my order for a 12ft tree Sat. She said there would be 4 trees that are 10-12ft. The are probably closer to 10ft but I want to get it early so I have some choice.

I wasn't sore from the Lower Body Blast. That is surprising.

Joan

It's snowing again and it's supposed to change over to freezing rain sometime mid day. we are hoping we can get to cousin's for dinner but it's in question right now. we want to go but freezing rain... well, if you've driven in it you know!

I feel completely unstressed this year. I didn't realize how big a deal the dinner usually is until I'm not doing it.

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Ours was very nice. I am glad it is over though. Now I have to get the house back together. Almost as much work as getting it set up. At least all the dishes are done, not put away but clean.

Valerie, I hope you did not have a hard time driving to your cousin's.

Joan, I don't know how you can decorate trees in the middle of doing a turkey etc. I give you a lot of credit. We have not had a tree up for the last 2 years. Not sure if we will do one this year.

Anybody going out into the crazy Black Friday shopping today?

Our day went fine. we got about 4 more inches of snow in the morning, it was 26 degrees and we had doubts about going, but suddenly ( correct weather prediction) the temp jumped 10 degrees, the snow started melting and when we got down off the steep hill we live on ...dicey for a half mile then everything rapidly changed to slush and the drive was a snap. not that much traffic either considering.

had a very pleasant dinner with cousin & aunt who is doing as well as can be expected with hearing and vision losses. good food. no cleaning. no stress. I could get used to this! took aunt back to assisted living after but that was not a problem either.

and then marveled at all the people who were hitting the stores for the sales starting at 12:01 or 3 am or 5 am. wow. you gotta be more of a bargain hunter than I'll ever be. you will not catch me anywhere near a store or mall.

I've done a workout every day , treadmill/ bike one day, and yesterday first disk of meso 2. I'm back to the weights I used the last time thru the program and will raise some of them if I have DH around to spot me. chest presses with the barbell could be troublesome if you over estimate!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

Yesterday morning I did Squeeze (57 min.), and today I did Bootcamp Boogie (63 min.).

Very peaceful Thanksgiving with just the three of us (four counting Max). DH and DS watched the Patriots/Lions game while I watched the National Dog Show. I always love this show, and this year a very beautiful Irish setter won. I was rooting for the Australian Shepherd because she had markings similar to Max, but also because I think Irish Setters are a bit goofy (would never ever want one). Our meal was very yummy, but now it's leftovers galore.

Our weather was nasty over night, but the sun is out today. Our new washer came today, DH installed it, and I think I am going to love it. It has lots of options on cycles and is bigger to handle large quilts. There's also an option for putting in additional items, although it's only at certain times in the cycle. Also a self-cleaning option using something called Affresh.

Deb, your Thanksgiving sounds a bit frazzling. How many people did you have? I think we can afford two dogs, but I am unsure about what breed. I am tempted to get another English shepherd from the same breeder because Max is truly the sweetest-tempered dog I have ever had, but I am also inclined toward a miniature Schnauzer because I inherited my sister's and really loved her big heart and feisty personality.

Glad things worked out for your Thanksgiving, Valerie!

Joan, I read over at Videofitness.com something about how you have to change the settings on your DVD player for wide screen for that DVD. You might want to check over there for more enlightenment, since I really did not know what she was talking about.

Hi to Cathy and Josie!!

Lynda, I read something about the TV screen shape... somebody had to change the aspect setting on their TV to get the disks to look right. TV screens used to almost square but now most are more rectangular. pictures that fit one screen don't fit the other without being either squashed, or cropped. It's why movies released for theaters never used to fit TV screens without losing a big chunk of the picture.

Irish setters.. we used to joke that thru breeding, their heads have become so narrow there's no room for anything but the optic nerve. no room for a brain at all ... probably not true, but I've never been fond of them.

First yoga class in a week, and it went well. it's a different style and I am enjoying it a lot.

Very interesting discussion on the radio this morning re male circumcision. apparently San Fran is considering a ballot initiative that would make it illegal to perform the procedure for ANY reason, including religious ones. apparently the procedure popularity has dropped significantly but making it illegal seems to go too far. Not something I spend a lot of time mulling over, but interesting how traditions can seemingly change in a generation.

I got email back from Cathe support and they said it must be my dvd player since it worked on my computer. I guess my dvd player is broken. It can only play the other 77 Cathe dvd's I have and not 3 of the 4 new ones. They suggested I clean the player????

I did 8 miles yesterday but only 1.5 miles today. I did do some shopping but not until the afternoon.

Joan

Good morning,

I hope everyone is well rested from all the holidy hoop-a-la...DH and I went out for breakfast yesterday, then just hung around here reading and putting the house back together in small increments. I also cleaned the oven on the stove. It is a self-clean but you still need to wipe some of the nasty stuff out. Boy, does it make a nasty smell while it is going. Now I am soaking the window in the door, with Windex. Does anyone leave the racks in the oven when you put in in Clean mode? I never have since the book said you shouldn't but someone I know said she leaves them in all the time and nothing happened to them.

No agility class today, because of the holiday weekend.

Valerie, good job on the weights, did you get your DVD's yet? I keep looking in the workout manager to see if they updated the workout sheets yet for STS Total Body. It's there but they said the exercises are not in the correct order. Either way, I will start with it tomorrow. I'd like to do one of the full body ones on Sunday, then an upper and lower split tpre-mix two other days. My Dad had an Irish setter and he was the craziest, nuttiest dog. He was pretty, but a handful. When he got another dog, he got a Golden Retriever, a lot more controllable.

Joan, did you tell customer service that your DVD plays all the other Cathe workouts you have? Unbelievable. Mine is really, really old and it had no problem playing the new DVD. I wonder if it's a setting or something. You may have to get a new one, you can get even them at drugstores now for pretty cheap.

Garance, we had 18, which included 2, three year olds. They don't eat much but they need a chair at the table. The 6 and 9 month olds did not, so I don't count them. I wonder if a Schnauzer would like the farm chores, animals etc as much as Max does? Totally different type of instints, it may not be good. A female like Max may be a good choice, or even another male if the breed is not the dominant type.

Hi to Josie and Cathy,

Take care,

Good morning,

The dvd player I have works and it is vhs and dvd. I still have some vhs that I use including lots of Christmas movies I don't want to change if it still works. It will be easier to stop buying Cathe dvd's until this one breaks.

Joan

Deb, no sign of the disks yet. probably weather related delay, or else they didn't ship everything the same day. that's OK, I have enough to do. I might save them for DH for a xmas present. I had planned on them for his B-day in november anyway.

Hope we don't have any trouble playing them. Our DVD player isn't that new anymore but it's worked for everything. we went thru a couple initially that didn't last long. Joan, do you have a neighbor or family member where you could stick the disks in and try them? Did you try more than one disk?

We have a plumbing project to finish. we got our laundry sink. when we disconnected the old one the connections leak a little so we are going to upgrade them. they're under a cabinet so small leaks might not be obvious until a lot of damage has occurred so this is the time to do it, that is if it's EVER the right time to do plumbing. Hate hate hate plumbing. took the day off yesterday and had lunch with a friend. not sure what today will be, depends on if the plumbing thing goes well or is an all day nightmare. Can you tell plumbing is not my favorite job?
