Good morning!

Today I did MMM Legs only. Good thing this pre-mix is only 23 minutes, I don't think I could do any more.

Some house stuff to do around here, then we are going to the Galleria mall to look at I-Pods for me for Christmas!! And to the L'Occitane store...I love their oils for the house. Verbena, my favorite scent, and a stop at Borders too I think. Love being on vacation, I am not pressed to get everything done around here by bedtime.

Garance, yes Keegan is the class clown. He makes up his own course, doing the obtacles he likes, rather than what the course calls for.. Have John there probably didn't help, he looked at is as an excuse to run to the gate to go off the floor. Brat.

Joan, good job on the walking...Maybe I am watering my orchids too much? right now they are ugly sticks, no blooms or anything resembling a bud. Lucky you not having to have Thanksgiving. One of these days.....

What is up with everyone today?

I've had orchids for years but never got them to do anything except get a new leaf, then an existing leaf dies. I think it's too cold for them here.

Did disk 11 yesterday, just the leg one left and I'm done with meso 1. My wrist is finally back to normal, sure took some time and some babying. took longer than expected for meso 1 because of it. seems like a million years ago when I fell off the bike.

Congrats on keeping at it joan, especially the treadmill time. that's respectable mileage. That's how I got thru STS the first times.. kept repeating disks til I felt comfortable with the weight load.

Tee hee.. terriers are like that huh? I think my aunt & my cousin had them too. fox terriers, right? I've only had a doberman myself and they're very easy to train and listen well. don't seem to go off on their pwn agenda.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did High Step Training again (63 min.). I will probably do it one more week and then take out another high step Cathe circuit that I haven't done in awhile.

Went out to dinner last night. Yummy flank steak with bearnaise and pommes frites and a beet salad. We are becoming regulars there. It's just a neat place. The waiter last night said I was sitting where Bette Midler sat last summer. Ages ago I went to one of her shows in NYC and really loved her. DH made a ton of money at the Farmer's Market yesterday, so he will do another before Christmas. I think he's saving up for a new wood processor. Everything around here has been breaking, and that will probably go next.

Sounds like everyone is pretty relaxed. Joan doesn't have to cook, Deb is enjoying a mini-vacation, I only will be cooking for 3. Feels good. I have two classes on Tuesday, and then the college breaks until the following week, so I have a week off as well, but I will have papers to grade and a big film to prepare.

Off to see The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest this afternoon.

Enjoy the calm before Thanksgiving!

Good evening all,

My dh will take off every Tuesday and Friday for the rest of the year except for Dec 3 and between Christmas and New Years. We just didn't get all his vacation in before now. I have been so pressed for time lately and hope I can keep up to date on posting and my diet for the rest of the year.

Monday

Good morning!

Up early, but that's ok since I do not have to go to work, I can do whatever I want! Yay, for vacation time.

We ended up getting the iPod yesterday, DH said why wait for Christmas? Then he would have to make another trip out there, and it was better that I was there when we bought it because they set it up for you right at the store. It will take a little getting used to. Now I am trying to get all the workouts I had on my old MP3 player on to the iPod.

The plan is to do week 3 over for the C25K workouts this week, I only did 2 of them last week and I don't feel ready to move to week 4.

Valerie, yes, Fox Terriers, they are a handful.

Garance, how was the movie?

Joan, it sounds like you are really busy, and then tax season starts!

I will be able to check in later to see what is going on...

take care,

A good day yesterday. DH and I did a run thru the neighborhood. used to do it before the treadmill but it was cold and crisp outside so we ran a loop. lots different than a treadmill, and took 30 minutes. we need to go down a hill to start and then it's (of course) uphill, steep, on the return. got thru OK though. still feeling jazzed though so I did most of disk 12, legs. I ran short on time and didn't do the small moves at the end, the extras. we were planning on skiing today but it's snowing everywhere, roads are icy, a plus it's supposed to get windy by mid day and blown down trees are an issue so we decided to wait until wed. this is the first snow of the year and traffic will be screwed up big time, and it's a bit of a drive to get where we wanted to go.

I'm a real dinosaur, I never could stand music (or anything else) in my ears. don't even like blue tooth hook ups. never had an ipod or an mp3. DH would like it if I could check his BP for him sometimes but the stethoscope ear pieces are so painful and I can't hear with them anyway. I have pretty small ear canals I guess. I envy people who can stick them in and ignore the rest of the world. Must be the last person on the planet without an ipod.

Yes, Lynda, movie reviews, please. that sounded like an excellent dinner. I can't imagine a real chef making something special just for me! I love Bette Midler. she is a great actress, both comedy and dramatic, and her stand up ussed to be hilarious. wonder what she's up to lately?
We watched Heartburn last night the oldie with Jack Nicholson & Meryl Streep. It was pretty good actually, light hearted -funny, not raunchy, and some realistic drama at the same time. I would have made an awful parent, though. glad I realized that and took care to prevent it.
I don't have to cook either, just make a pumpkin pie to take. my first no cook turkey day in 20 years.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest was excellent IMO, but I wonder how hard it would be to follow if you had not read all the books. There are so many parts to this piece, and it was very satisfying for me, because the director tried to include all of them (2 1/2 hr. film). I also love Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander. When she entered the courtroom, she was total Goth--fierce!

Valerie, I never saw that movie because of the reviews. Maybe I should try it. It's by Nora Ephron, right? About her failed marriage to Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame? When I saw Midler back in the late 70s, she was considered pretty raunchy, but so funny. She descended on to the stage in a big clamshell. Pretty tame by Madonna's standards, or Lady Gaga's.

Another indulgence. I read an excerpt in EW of a story by Stephen King and had to FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED! So I bought the book of novellas, and I CANNOT PUT THIS ONE DOWN! The reason why I'm shouting is that I really need to get the darn thing read and finished so I can do other stuff--like grade papers.

I don't have an IPod either, and I think it's because I watch students around here either oblivious to everything but the music in their ears, or on their phones, or texting. It's like if a bomb were to go off, they wouldn't notice.

Continue with the relaxation, ladies.

yes, Nora Ephron. didn't know that's who she was married to. but yeah, her romance and ultimately failed marriage. cute and funny in places, a bit sad in others. and streep and nicholson can do no wrong on film for me. so, he's basically a charming jerk, but all the baby stuff, DH and I found her a little overwhelming and annoying too. Cute or funny movies don't seem to be made anymore and we both enjoyed this one.
I don't think raunch, bathroom "humor", or another(!!) incarnation of the Fockers or Jackass are remotely funny. I don't seem to like anything current marketed as 'comedy". so I'm going backwards to look for it.

Yea got my new Cathe dvds today. Maybe I'll actually have time to look at them tomorrow. I did get 3.5 miles in today.

Joan

Tuesday

Good morning,

The plan is to do MMM Upper body only pre-mix this morning, then a lot of HOuseMax getting ready for Thursday. I had to go back to the Apple store yesterday to have one of the "genius'" ( that is what they are called, I am not being sarcastic), help me to set it up. I am still not sure how to use the thing. I may have taken on more than I need, and still there are 18 I-Treads that it won't load on for some reason.

Going to spend the afternoon with my friend whose mother is at her house in hospice.

Valerie, WTG! Running for 30 minutes is my goal with the C25K workouts. I don't listen to music with the iPod, I only have workouts on there. I agree, I hate seeing all these "kids" with these ear buds on, not paying attention to anything around them. I cannot use ear buds either, my ears are too small, no matter what kind they are, they fall out. I have a really small light head type. Did you get your DVD's? I went cheap and did USPS, but I see people as far as Oregon got theirs yesterday.

Garance, what is the name of that book that you can't put down? What's EW?

Joan, let us know what you think of the new workouts, did you get all 4?

Josie, are you off this week?

Cathy, how is that new GK doing?

Lots to do, almost makes it not like a vacation....

Later....

Weather is totally pi$$ed out here so I may spend a lot of time here today! It got very cold and it snowed and everything is covered in a sheet of ice. the local TV stations were on all day with traffic , crashes, and cancellatons. I have no idea how many people got home. "very cold" here is around 20 and things aren't built for that temp. I don't think it snowed at all last year and it might never have even frozen hard, so we are not geared up for this and it's a total mess. 2 years ago we had a bad winter and this one was predicted to be bad and it looks like predictions are right. DH was off yesterday and we'd planned on skiing but in a moment of good judgment we decided against going because of the forecast. GOOD THING. Even the airport got closed, somebody slid off a runway.

so I rode the exercise bike for 25, and then did KPC. that's always a fun workout. Didn't get any disks yet. Last time the weather was like this we got no mail, garbage collection, or papers for about 10 days. at least the power stayed on. It's not supposed to last long but when the temps warm and it starts raining, on wed sometime, it will be horrendous. nothing like a light layer of water on top of ice!

Deb, finally someone else who can't wear ear pieces! Lynda, 100% right about kids who wander around and have no clue about their surroundings. between the cell phones and ipods, it's a miracle more don't walk off bridges or into the sides of buses. If I get the ear pieces in somehow the noise vibrates thru my bone structure and it's an awful sensation. got a go get breakfast. for sure I'll be back later.

Back already. DH got to work OK. He took my car so I can't go anywhere though I wouldn't unless it was really important. Anyone with half a brain is closed today. DH's patients are mostly old people and if there is even a HINT of snow or ice they cancel in droves. It's the right thing to do, skip driving if not an emergency. clinic management made a BIG deal 2 yrs ago. bad snowstorm and some people could not get in. In our case, there's only one road out, multiple power lines down on the road, sparking. Took the PUD 2 days to get here that time, because, of course, we weren't the only spot with problems. still management got hostile . "Everyone is EXPECTED to report to work on time." well, send a helicoper if it's so important. So DH got in, and will likely be home very early as most of his patients won't do the drive. then... and this really gets me... clinic management does nothing about the treacherously icy parking lot and entrance area. One would think they'd supply salt or sand but no.

I'm looking forward to the new disks, also picked USPS but everything is delayed coming here. we were supposed to get our new laundry sink too. Got the countertop and it looks good. was hoping the sink came so we could work on that project.

Watched a good older movie last night, "Man in the Moon" with reese witherspoon, tess harper, sam waterston. a "coming of age" movie with a tragic twist. everyone in it is very good, we both enjoyed it. reese is maybe 14 . and the story is honest and believable. there was a similar accident ( not telling) with someone in my family, so I think that's why it resonated with me so much.

To me, EW is Eating Well magazine! I don't know either. Glad the movie is good. Rapace was cast perfectly.

Deb, I used to go longer than 30 min. it takes a while to get back into it. the posture gets fatiguing. Joan, how long does it taking you on the treadmill? I try to do an hour of cardio in some combination. yesterday was >90 min if I count the bike. I did the Ab section too.

hi ladies, i'm alive, just either busy or exhausted.

did the legs/abs premix from B&G yesterday, and then tracies' staying power. my butt is sore. and, i am riding horses today. may be a bit uncomfortable. maybe things will slow down after the holidays, but i doubt it, now with 4 grandbabies.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND YOURS

Hi,

Well my friend called and asked me to come a little later since the nurse would be there when I was going to arrive. She would rather all of them, nurses, aides etc be gone by the time I get there. She is having all kinds of doubts and feelings of guilt on going the Hospice route now. Her Mom cannot get up, sleeps most of the time, but when she is awake, she begs my friend to get her out of bed etc. It is so sad. I am going to ask her if she has considered actually admitting her mom to the actual Hospice site that we have here, rather than keep her at home. Not sure how she would feel about that. She has no trust in hospitals, nursing homes etc.

Valerie, I need to e-mail my SIL who lives in Seattle and see how they are doing. DH says the same thing when we have bad weather, he would rather the elderly people call and cancel and stay home, then try to get to his office.

later....

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Slim Sculpt (45 min.).

Deb, the Stephen King is Full Dark, No Stars and they are novellas. EW is Entertainment Weekly. King usually writes a column for them, but this one had an excerpt from one of the novellas. I finished it last night. Very suspenseful, and as the title of the collection suggests, these stories are pretty dark. Back to my Follett after this. So sorry about your friend. Encourage her to get the help she needs and not feel guilty.

Valerie, your weather sounds horrendous! Cannot imagine no mail for 10 days. That's never happened here, even when we get hit with a Nor'easter. DH has a generator in case of power outages.

Happy Thanksgiving for you, too, Cathy!

Hi to Josie and Joan!

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout over the weekend. I ended up with the stomach flu, I did get to do my shopping on Sunday and that was it. I'm taking tomorrow off and we have Thursday and Friday off. I will be doing my weight training and cardio tonight and I plan to go spinning tomorrow morning.

Garance, I love flank steak. I go to a place called Hall's in Venice, CA and they make the best flank steak and Cesar salad but it is only on the bar menu. So, I have to sit at the bar if I want it. I feel a bit naughty when I sit at the bar :) Lynda, can you remind me as to the brand of your stove. It is time for us to replace ours.

Valerie, the weather sounds terrible. It has been in the mid 40's in the morning and mid 60's during the day for us and it is supposed to get cooler the rest of the week. We are not used to the cold here in LA.

Deb, my DS got me the I-Pod touch and I can buy so many apps. for it and it has so many capabilities that I will never use, but it was a present. I usually carry it in my car for the music only.

Cathy, I know those GK's will keep very busy. I will not see mine for Thanksgiving, but I will have them before Christmas for our annual bake off.

Joan, I can't believe tax season is upon us again!

Have a happy Thanksgiving and I will try to check in while I'm off.

Josie

People in most parts of the country, where snow is a regular thing, would laugh hysterically at the big deal that gets made (here) of 5 inches of snow. but without the plows, salt, sand, and experienced drivers, it gets hairy quickly, especially since we are pretty hilly.

I have a hummingbird feeder out and was seeing 2 regularly. thought it might finally be too cold for them, but I keep rotating the feeders so as they freeze, i replace with a thawed one. I was going out to swap feeders and a hummer was trying to feed at the almost frozen one. I walked over slowly holding up the warm feeder and got very close and she switched over to the warm feeder and sat on the perch and fed while I held it in the air. not more than 10 inches away. Thank you Cathe for those shoulder exercises, I could have held that feeder up for an hour if I'd needed to. It was an incredible experience. they are so tiny and so amazing they can survive cold and snow. there is one kind supposed to over winter here but this is the first year I've had any.

Wednesday

Good morning,

Today I did the C25k treadmill workout....busy, busy today, need to set up tables, cook one turkey, do the squash.....

I will try to bb later ....

There aren't enough emoticons to describe how I am feeling right now...
And to top it off, my cousin came to drop off the stuffing, and when she went to leave, there was this Rottweiler outside, wandering drunk like, toppling over around my driveway, she got in her car and called me, said he didn't have a collar on, and he looked like there was something wrong with him. I told her to stay in her car and I called the City shelter, described it, and they said they would send someone right away.. I think he may have been hit by a car. Poor thing....just makes me sad, and worried. Also, a friend of my cousin that I sat next to at the benefit, has a niece that bought a "designer" dog for $900, about 2 weeks ago, and she thought that they came all trained etc, she has never had a dog, doesn't have the time to train it, so the poor thing is going to turn into a "behavior problem", I just know it. The aunt ( my cousin's friend) was ready to give it to my cousin. Her husband said, "no way"..they already have 2 dogs. I showed the pic to John, and he said if you want it, go for it. I am not paying $900 for a mixed breed dog. If it was free to a good home, I may consider it. Here is his picture:

Just what I need....

I thought I posted last night but I guess I didn't submit reply.

Good news. I did Lower Body Blast and I think it is a great wo. Bad news. It doesn't work on my dvd player or laptop. It does work on computer. Also the camerman switches from front view to side view often. It's amost like watching a slide show. Maybe not that bad but it is annoying. We've decided camerman had a thing for Amanda. On the side view sometimes you can't even see Cathe but it is focused on Amanda.

Cute dog but I'll keep my cat, much less upkeep.

Temperature is dropping from 65 degrees on Monday to 30's tomorrow. It is pouring down rain now. My mother just told me she is out of medicine. Oh well I wanted to go out anyway.

Mother is doing ok. I haven't got her talked into seeing doctor about lump yet but I believe it is just scar tissue. It's along that incision.

Mil is hanging in there. We are going once a week to see her. Last Saturday she told dh she didn't think she would live that much longer.

Off to make pies. I told sil I would make pies for them since I didn't invite them to dinner. Can we say guilt. When I took them the turkey I asked to borrow pie plates so I wouldn't have to get mine back later. They don't have any. I guess I have been doing this too long.
